Maybe this is just supposed to be the way Sweet Tooth imagines the way he affects his victims. Obviously I don't think this is why his story was written this way since the Minion codes were shat out at the last second, but I think it does retroactively make sense in a way. Sweet Tooth has self aggrandizing tendencies and a one track mind, so maybe he imagines he's the most important piece of this puzzle, that revenge must be taken, cycle of violence continues yadda yadda yadda.

With regards to "There wasn't any family abuse stories" and it could have been applied to Axel, I think Dollface's original story was supposed to be her being a younger girl and Mr Kreel being her father. Maybe his story would have been too similar if they went that route. That coupled with him being an unlockable character so not as much effort put in.

16:30: It also helps that Lost's Axel has insane special dmg. 25 dmg to be specific, which is more than a power missile.
18:51: Yeah, he did. If you listen to Outlaw and Axel side by side, it's pretty obvious.
27:04: It was Outlaw's satellite. That weapon is still active even if the one who fires it dies.
29:42: If I had a nickel for every time that happened to me, I'd be able to buy something clever to say.
That satellite thing surprised me. I had no idea that it stays up even if the vehicle who launched it is destroyed.

Great series. I can see the change to Axel's story to maybe avoid any "connotations" or something (maybe i'm overanalyzing things lol).
So on Axel's story- I think wishing for revenge works. Dude's wife has been dead for a while. I think he's moved on from her as a person, but not the guilt he feels. All he feels is guilt, and I guess revenge is his atonement. And he's just confused too. Remember he wasn't even sure if he should take revenge until Sweet Tooth started taunting him. It's more like he wanted someone else to share the blame.

Adding onto that, given that Calypso is some kind of known quantity in the Black universe, being the #2 on FBI's Most Wanted list, it's possible that Axel was aware on some level of how he could twist and fuck up a wish, so in his own mind maybe he didn't want to risk wishing for his wife back because of how Calypso might ruin that (which could've been anything from resurrecting her as-is, in pieces, or by arranging her to be killed by someone else soon after, or even kill Axel himself so now he simply passes on the survivor's guilt to his wife)
Compared to those speculations, going for revenge against the killer is less likely to backfire in any meaningful way. Although I will say that it feels odd that he hesitated to enact revenge in his ending when he's already killed every other contestant before this point (which included Sweet Tooth already but we'll just gloss over that)

@whichDude mmm idk wasn't really the reason he finished off yellow it's cause he wanted to turn the kid into his er what's the word again... his predecessor? I don't think that the right word but I don't think he really has a issue with bringing the dead back just with yellow jacket he had other plans

Axel lost his "mascot status" when they switched devs between 2 and 3.
They thought that sweet tooth was basically the main mascot of the franchise. So they practically threw him out
They basically fumbled him because they didn't understand what made his story good
Axel actually has below average stats. His Speed and Special is 5 while Handling and Armor is 4. Not a single one breaking 6 or above.
He has the fastest regening special in the game, taking I believe 30 to 45 seconds. His secondary can't be used on Darkside, Manslaughter, or Minion because they are too big. In LOST, the secondary is completely gone.
It definitely would have made more sense for it to have been his son who was taken instead of his wife given who kills him, even the manual mentions that Sweet Tooth's Ice Cream Truck "Attracts the most innocent of victims". I guess it was changed much like Preacher, Mary, and Dollface's to not showcase harm towards children (Even though one is competing in the Tournament and another, which was originally Dollface, gets shot up).
Axel appears in the ending of all the secret characters, except Yellow Jacket, at the bottom right corner of the screen during Warhawk's explosion.
If you pause around the 38:48 mark, you can see Axel's face and another person's face. Is his wife's face, or is it also his?

You touched on it slightly here, but I actually really like the idea if Axel's story had been about seeking to kill Sweet Tooth as a kind of public service. As a sort of "The clown needs to die to prevent this from happening to anybody else." It would line up more with his previous portrayal of a man who had a lot of inner strength, and there could be that lingering question of just how much has he gotten over his wife's death? Maybe he says he's over it and is merely aiming to kill the clown out of obligation, but as he gets closer to the end, he begins to question his own motives, and can no longer deny that to some extent, this is in fact personal. Perhaps Axel was raised in the kind of environment where he was taught to believe being a stone-cold, detached badass was the way to get through life, but he has to slowly face the fact that he is genuinely hurting over his wife's death and his emotions aren't as impenetrable as he believed. Though, all of this may have started to become a little too complex for a character with no intro or middle sequence. Then again, I feel like between-mission text had much more opportunity to fill in the blanks, instead of basically being used to say the same thing seven times plus the generic Minion text.

TBH that's the thing with depression, as somebody who has pretty bad depression, it's a mental illness and something that comes with mental illness is delusion. The normal part of him wants to kill Needles for taking his soulmate away from him. The delusional ill and depressed side of him wishes to keep himself down and punish himself. I remember on my birthday my in-laws and partner celebrated me with a big surprise. In the moment I indulged myself and enjoyed it with lots of laughs and smiles. Later in the quiet night, I had to tear all the decorations down I couldn't bare to look at them. I felt I was not deserving of such greatness. I wanted them but I didn't. The two fires can burn within you at the same time. I don't think it's super far-fetched that he blames himself and Needles as well for the death of his wife. Were he not mentally ill and severely depressed, I would agree that makes no sense, but within the context of him being depressed, it makes sense imo.

I feel like Axel wish to get revenge on sweet tooth instead of wishing his wife back we kinda smart because when you think about it even if he did get his wife back colypso probably would've twisted it and sweet tooth would still somehow kill her basically making her resurrection useless

Next time your playing, try him again, and use the second special as a contact proc. Ram someone and then hit up up up. He does more damage when closing on someone. It's still not GREAT.
