Excellent video and explanation! I just noticed this happened in my '13 in the past couple weeks. I have dew in the morning and tried to defog and NO HEAT. Coolant is great and I can hear the actuator motor. I'm going to cut out the side in the driver's foot-well. I think the car might put the blend door to max cold when shutting off the car. I know I've heard it move by itself either when I shut off the car, or when the radio times out like 10 minutes after removing the key. I have to check this when I do the fix. If so, I might just put 1 screw only in the actuator so it will pivot and not put that torque on the door's arm. OR I may just put the temp setting just above the blue dot and then unplug the actuator for the summer. I need defogger heat in the fall because I usually drive the car until mid December or until the first snowfall. This is an engineering error- someone did the math wrong. It could probably have been resolved with a software/firmware patch.
Perfect, I'm having this problem. I did all the time put it to max cool, and now my door is broken. This is a Chevrolet design flaw, from engineering stand point. Would of liked to see how you cut and glued it back but Thanks for the video!
So is this a fix or just delays the inevitable repair? Found a low mileage '14 LT1 for a good price but If this is just a problem that will happen again and again I'll get a different car.
My 2017 Camaro has unpredictable AC. It has 35k on it and I live in Florida. Sometimes it is cold and sometimes just cool. Very strange. Compressor is not cycling much, so I don't think it is low on refrigerant.
I replaced mine about a year and a half ago it broke again recently is yours still intact after this video? This seems like good way to save the door long term
Yes still good but I find the a/c no cold like it should be if the nob is left were I said in the video stead I use it on the first blue dot is cold enough for those hot days and still good till now 😉 👍
I replaced my blend door yesterday. I noticed, when I turn the ignition off, the car moves the blend door to full cold. When I re-start the car, the car moves the door to the setting knob is in. This might make this effort a moot point, but I'm going to try it anyways because this makes a lot of sense to me and perhaps it will extend the life because of less time in full cold position. Thank you.
I don't feel like the "MAX" option is the culprit. At least not in my situation. I have always used the heat in the morning and A/C during the afternoon. And when switching between both temperatures, I ALWAYS put the A/C in "MAX". It has never given me a problem. I feel like the problem is the big air blowers at the car wash. If you don't have the recirculate button engaged, the air from the air blowers gets forced into the car through the vents between the hood and the windshield. Same as when you drive on the freeway and don't have recirculate engaged, you feel the wind from the outside, even when your fan is off. Being that the air is forced in, it stresses the blend door excessively. I feel like THIS is the reason why MINE broke, personally.
You might be right! Mine was broken pretty badly, but I did often move it to Max A/c. I will try keeping mine turned to recirculate since I certainly dont want to go through the pain of replacing that door again!
This happen to most if no all 5gen camaros how the factory don't know of this failure and recall on it ? About the calibration you talking it will require a xpensive scanner if is possible get it done ,do you get it done? How is the procedure? Or you just think it could be done?
its kind of stupid of chevy,,,this should be a recall,,,,,why the fk would you want to play with the ac controls like that when they should work like they are indicated,,what if its hot and you want the full ac to work?????????????????
I agree it is Chevy manufacturing flow the things is every dealer will be happy to fix it for you for 3k ...play with the control save it is being over 3 years no issue I note that it need to be in the blue dot wen is realy hot to have nice cold ac no need on max just to prevent ruined it up I'm no a dealer or Chevy tech just someone that have that issue and try to said what I did to save $ and headaches to some one else ..thanks
Awesome! Thank you for figuring this out! I have heard that even after you put a new door in, it will only last so long and it will break again.

Still having problems?
I just did my car and put it on my face book page. It came out just right.
Step by step
@@anthonywashington7786 good shit. I reapproached mine and realized i did it right and just needed frion.
I replaced the blend door on both of my camaros.. never thought about that ! Thanks !
Is it stil the same part of the passenger side or is there two
Thank you buddy, you save me $2900.

Good job, thanks

Did you ever get it fixed?
Thanks for showing me the safe zone 😄
you should be able to calibrate the doors with a scan tool to get rid of this problem.
How do you do that I purchased scan tool.

After I started maximizing my ac it did start acting up on me
I did this but I didn’t glue it back cause I’m sure the blend door will break again so it’ll be easy if I just didn’t glue it and leave it as is
I use aluminum tape to seal the gap and is being good so far almost 2 year since I did it

That's make good sense skid
To save it I wrapped with carbon fiber cloth 😊

Honestly it could be a combination of the two!
Yup car wash!!
Your problem is to do an actuator relearn by either doing it yourself or a qualified mechanic!
Calibration needed.
