I finally replaced my blend door last night. I started at 9:45p and by 11:30p the new part was in and secured. I think I could have knocked this out even quicker but a few things held me up. 1. The plastic piece that you cut off to access the blend door, TRIM it like this video suggests. I tried to put it back in without trimming it and I couldn't align it right. I fought it for a while before giving up and then trimmed it. It went in right away after. 2. The AC vent tube that is removed at the beginning needs to be put in first when you are reassembling it and the BCM pieces/wires. I tried installing the BCM first and then the vent tube and failed miserably. Once I took out the BCM (and the bracket it is in) the vent tube reattached easily. 3. Get a GOOD light. I can't stress this one enough as there is very little room down there to work in and you can't see anything without a good light you can reposition over and over to get good views of everything. Gorilla tape is the best way to seal the door and you can take it off easy when you do the job a second and third time. Which you will. I've done mine twice.
@@cindym.4186 yes after replacing the blend door try not to put your ac all the way down. Go one notch above . This prevents excessive torque on the blend door hinge.
I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said but thank you so much for taking the time to make such a great video and sharing your experience. Like others I was quoted $2000 and because of this video it only cost $21 for the door, $7 for RTV, $19 for an electric hot knife. Total $47!!! You make it look too easy, it took me about 4hrs. but I knew ahead of time it probably would. Thanks again.
I just replaced mine, I appreciate you taking the time to post this video brother it definitely helped. The only thing I did differently was trim the inner lip on the pop out piece so it goes in place without a lot of hassle. I also found out that a company actually makes an aluminum version of the blend door, should it happen again I'll be buying that one. Again thank you very much. 👍

Amazing video dude! I have a 2013 Camaro with 67k miles on it, it seems like most people are having this issues around 10 years give or take of use before that door breaks.
I came back to say thanks, Chris (737mechanic)! I followed your instructions and 3 years of no A/C in this Texas heat has been resolved. Saved me $5k from my local shop. I used an electric hot knife from Amazon. Took me about 4 hours because I ended up pulling out both seats to deep vacuum and shampoo the carpets lol.
For anyone that doesn’t have a scan tool. It’s not 100% necessary. All I did was disconnect battery and after finishing and connecting everything back. The only problems I encountered was tpms was all dashes and the compass was saying “CAL”. But literally after driving it for 5 seconds everything went back to normal. With the patience and tools you’ll get it done.

We just finished our 2014 Camaro. Could not have done it w/o this video. Thank you very much! FWIW - a couple tips that may help others as well... Before you seal it up, don't forget to pull out the broken piece of the blend air door. We thought we might not have pulled it out. In fact when we tested it, we heard some rattling inside the dash when the fan was on max circulation, confirming it was still in there. In the end we wound up getting a vacuum cleaner with flexible nozzle and put it into the cut-out hole. While holding the vacuum in the hole, we covered over the opening with our hands and turned on the fan to max circulation. By doing this, we were able to seal it off enough so the suction from the vacuum, plus the fan, sucked the broken part into the vacuum! We also found that putting the vent on first before connecting the wiring was the way to go. Just be sure to keep the wires tucked back on top of the vent. Good luck!
Got the door cut and out today, wasn't too bad, took a few hours, but I didn't get in any hurry. Only thing I would add is the horizontal screw for the air duct was a Hex 20 on my car and not a 7mm. Mine is a 2012 2SS. When you get these two screws out pull down towards you and rotate clockwise, the duct comes right out. The only issue I have now is trying to fish out the broke end, and the white connector piece, but I'll tackle that tomorrow. I used the borescope and unfortunately, they both are about 1/2 way down to the passenger side, approx. 6"-7" away from the hole I cut. I tried a vacuum with an end on it that would hold them at the end without pulling them into it, but it didn't reach far enough. I guess I'll try a long screwdriver tomorrow. Thanks for the video, made it much easier to do.
Thank you so much for this detailed video. I watched it a few times, and I just successfully did this fix on my car. I had a shop quote me 1300 to fix it, and it only cost me ~$30 and some time!
Amazing video. Stopped at harbor freight yesterday after watching your video to get the tools I needed and then replaced my blend door. Also I used a box cutter type tool and no heat to cut and it worked fine. That heater core is strong enough it just had some scratches on it

This was the best video for doing this that I found. He doesn’t talk too much, just enough to help you if you need it and the video was good for the space you have to record. Very helpful and I completed in about 2 hours, and AC works great again!
I have a 2010 Camaro with the same issue. The A/C mechanic I took it to installed a valve on the heater hose, you close it for A/C and open it for heat. He said he did not know how to fix the blend door and this way was the most practical fix he knew of. Today I found this video and ordered a new blend door off Amazon. Also, when on the order page an electric hot knife popped up. So Amazon must know about this fix. It will be nice to switch from heat to A/C without having to stop and turn the valve and burn the shit out of your fingers. 😮
Man what a super good video. Had issues knowing how far to cut in the ends. The shaving down of parts is very important everyone However we got her all buttoned up in the dark and it did t work. I assume the blend door feel out of the far end chase at some time however I checked the movement of the door before proceeding. Quite disappointing but nothing to do with your video. Just my abilities. Thanks again
Thank you, I was a mechanic, but now going to school for a new trade. I toke my car to the dealership, and they want to pull the dashboard out and break my windshield in the process just to get to it. I just replaced the windshield and now they want 4500 in repairs... Almost half of what i paid for the car just to get to a hvac valve. If you are aware of anything else ridiculous please 🙏 make more videos.
Such a helpful video. Thank you so much. I did this today and only problem I had was installing the cut back. I couldn’t seal it. I ended up just going with it unsealed and the ac and heater work. I didn’t remove the seat or disconnect the battery and everything seems fine. Thanks again.
This video helped me change my blend door myself. I'm 58 yr old healthcare provider. I'd like to add that there is a simpler way to check if the blend door is working. Remove the cabin air filter. Have someone turn the AC to on and over to heat. You can clearly see the blend door moving. Of.course that was after I fixed it. So if it's broken. The blend door shouldn't move back and forth.
I thought you were on to something but the only thing I could see when the cabin air filter is removed is the squirrel cage on the blower motor. What year Camaro do you have?
@@elliehorning922 So the cabin air filter on the 2013 is on the cowl under the hood. When I open the hood and remove the cabin air filter the blower motor squirrel cage is all I can see. When I look under the passage side of the dash I see nothing that would allow me to remove to see the blend air door.
I'll take a closer look at this tomorrow morning. I'm in Florida and morning is best for me to work on my car. I've changed the blend door and it moves back and forth easily. I also changed the blend door Actuator since I was right there to do so. Unfortunately, I'm getting cold air when I start out driving, but then it goes to warm air. I'm thinking, I may have mixed my new Actuator with the old and put the old 1 back in. I am going to change that out in the morning. I'm at a loss as to why I'm getting cool air and warm air . It comes and goes. Any idea what else might be my problem. Help help help🙏🏻
@@elliehorning922 You need to find out if the compressor is shutting off or if it is still engaged. That will tell you if it is something causing the compressor to disengage or if it is a door issue.
This was a very helpful video and I appreciate you doing it. However I just finished doing this on my 2014 Camaro. I must say this is the hardest repair I've ever done to a vehicle in my life. I struggled almost all the way through it. Lying on my back wasn't good either it made me nauseous and sick. If someone offered me $3,000 to fix their car this way I would refuse. Thank you. I have no money but have a camaro hahaha 😅 so I used the torch lighter to melt the blend door pieces Back together even stronger than before and ill tell you what it looks ugly but it works great 👍 atleast there's access now

Now when I put it together my heat works yes, but now my coolant is leaking with it the vent and it's blowing smoke....now I have to figure a way to patch it up

I kept saying I will never do another one but I have done 14 now and I have one to do in the next couple of weeks. It has gotten easier but it still sucks.
What is a safe length to use on the exacto knife to not pierce the heater core? I’ll be attempting to do this in two weeks and damaging the heater core is what worries me the most.
I use the regular exacto knife blade and I grind down the sharp point to a rounded point to be safe. But unless you are really pushing hard on it I don't think you need to worry to much.

737, Scan calibration question: Will a proper calibration help fix any errors that might have occurred from mounting the actuator out of sync with the temp dial? I have plenty of heat and cool down. I just cant say the AC is really as cold as I think it should be. Maybe calibrate the door to close off the heat farther? Also, ditto on the thank you's. I would not have taken this on without your video! See you over on Camaro5...
You need to do a calibration to make sure the doors are fully opening and closing. A scan tool is easiest and the best way to do this but if you disconnect the battery for a few min and reconnect it when you turn the key on the car should do a self calibrate.
@@737mechanic Yes, I disconnected the battery before I started the car for the first time after replacing the door. It works pretty well and it's possible I just need an air conditioning service but it was cold before the old door broke. So I guess bottom line is, should I pay somebody $150 to calibrate this thing?
@@HHHAAA111222 One thing you can do is on a hot day open the hood and see if the aluminum A/C line between the master cylinder and engine is nice and cold. That will help tell you if the system is indeed getting ice cold but simply not coming out cold from the vents.
One last Q, 737. After a new (aluminum) door install and battery disconnect, I'm still getting a little warmer air on the pass side vs driver's side, did I screw something up? Seems to work thru the warm cycle. Plenty hot. Move to Alaska? 😂 Thx.
What breaks the door is the actuator overdives the door past the stop and it stresses the door. The best thing to do is use a scan tool to calibrate it.

There is a rounded tip that comes with it that was perfect for the job. It took me about 5 minutes to cut out the plastic piece., seriously 5 minutes if that!!

This video was a huge help and I just spent the weekend working on my 2015 Camaro RS. Followed all these tips and instructions and would have gave up for sure if I hadn’t heard and seen it done on video. Thanks for saving me a large bill at the dealer!
dis you disconnected the battery for the BCM??
Did mine in 2 hours. Great video. Used gorilla tape as a seam sealer when done. Worked great.
Gorilla tape is the best way to seal the door and you can take it off easy when you do the job a second and third time. Which you will. I've done mine twice.
Any tips in addition to the video you may have?
Just wanted to say thank you. Got my kids 2013 heating again. Silly me thought it was the thermostat. Thank you for your video and giving the average Joe confidence to tackle what the average person wouldn’t try!!!
Glad it helped you.
Great video. Dealer and another shop wanted $3000 to remove windshield and dash for a $15 blender door.
I followed your instructions step by step. Used a heat X acto electric knife. Took 5 hours cuz I took my time reviewing each step. AC is Freezing now! Heater is hotter than Hell.
Thank you so Much!!!
Joe...So California😎
Thats engineers for you. Im not fond of the idea of cutting that plastic to get to the door but im also not aboit to pay 3k or do all that for a 15$ part. Guess ill need a knife.
Amazing video dude! I have a 2013 Camaro with 67k miles on it, it seems like most people are having this issues around 10 years give or take of use before that door breaks.
I’m at the ten year mark and I’m having this issue as well. Hopefully I can fix it myself. This is a great video!
Glad it was a success. And thank you for the nice comment.
Great video! Thank you sooo much! My son and I just did this to his 2015 Camaro and it worked like a charm!! We were quoted 1800 to 2200 from various mechanics. It cost us $50 in parts and tools and took 3.5 hours. Awesome video, thanks so much!
Life saver, just finished this on my 2012 2ss couldn't have done it without this.
Great Video 👍
Hey bro, what was your ac doing before this fix?? I gotta 2013 2ss a month ago Andy ac started going in and out until it finally went out completely.. I changed the whole ac motor for $800 and replaced the ac liquid but it’s still coming out hot air no ac.. I’m starting to think it’s this. 🤷♂️
@@bgproductions93706 get a bore scope($60-100) and go to the passenger side footwell, theres a temp prob under there that u twist and remove, then stick the bore scope in
We just finished our 2014 Camaro.
Best detailed mechanic video I’ve ever seen on UA-cam
Thank you so much for this detailed video. I watched it a few times, and I just successfully did this fix on my car. I had a shop quote me 1300 to fix it, and it only cost me ~$30 and some time!
Amazing video. Stopped at harbor freight yesterday after watching your video to get the tools I needed and then replaced my blend door. Also I used a box cutter type tool and no heat to cut and it worked fine. That heater core is strong enough it just had some scratches on it
GM lets put the heater core 1 inch from the plastic blend door so it can melt warp and snap. Great engineering!
Holy smokes that was great! I believe I did watch the first video I remember you pulling that sensor out for the borescope, can’t believe how well that piece fit back on there after you cut it out, great job and thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills with us!
thank you so much man, my 2012 camaro was having this issue and my dad and I followed your video and now my car finally has AC!!!
Glad to hear it.
I just saved myself 3500$ thank you brother, you're a lifesaver!
I have to agree this is a very well and death video this man took his time show how to do it right and helping a lot of people out in this time of Overkill in expenses I'd like to say thank you
Thank you for making this video. It worked perfectly. Just used it to fix my daughter’s 2015 Camaro SS. Awesome job.
Thank you for your video save me $3000 at the dealer. Now heat and cooling work great again. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This was the best video I’ve seen on UA-cam saved me 1.5k quoted to me by my local Chevy dealership. Took me 4 hour but saved me all that money. Followed this video step by step and got it. Thank you !!!
Do mines😩😩😩
Where you from 😂 I’m also a residential heating and air technician which is why I didn’t find this to be so complicated 😂
I don't understand why a lot of people go to dealership. They overpriced everything and they do the same
Thank you for this video you saved me over 1000.00 dollars
I did it myself with the help of your video but I have a question hopefully you can help when I put the car back together and hooked up the battery I now have a service airbag light on is it possible I hit a wire under the dashboard???
They quoted me over 3000 at dealership
Great video. I kept the module plugged in and didn’t remove the seat which made it a little challenging but several hours later I had AC. Thanks!
Hello sir! I wanted to wait till the job was done. And im currently sitting in my 13 Camaro SS enjoying full AC for the first time since I bought the car over a year ago. Thankyou. Thankyou. So much patience in telling every little detail. Perfect guide. Took me twice as long, but the job is done. You're a f*ckin saint. Stay golden.
This was the best video for doing this that I found. He doesn’t talk too much, just enough to help you if you need it and the video was good for the space you have to record. Very helpful and I completed in about 2 hours, and AC works great again!
This is a really great detailed video.
Thanks so much, saved a lot of money.
I used a soldering iron for the hot knife.
You’re video helped fix my heat myself. You are awesome.
Man what a super good video. Had issues knowing how far to cut in the ends. The shaving down of parts is very important everyone
However we got her all buttoned up in the dark and it did t work. I assume the blend door feel out of the far end chase at some time however I checked the movement of the door before proceeding. Quite disappointing but nothing to do with your video. Just my abilities.
Thanks again
Excelent video!! Thanks!! You did a very good job filming with just one hand!! Thanks!!

@@737mechanic My Camaro is a 2015. Does the squirrel guard move back and forth when the temp is moved from cold to heat?

Yesssir love to see it sir! Thank you for being here for all of us Camaro bois🫡💯
Thank you very much after three years without heat I will be able to fix it
This was a very helpful video and I appreciate you doing it. I did however spend the money for the billet blend door so hopefully it will never break again and if it does I know I'm not fixing it. Thanks again for your video I probably couldn't have got this done without it.
I am about to do my 16th Camaro tomorrow and I only charge $350. Maybe I am lowballing myself........
@@737mechanic After doing mine yesterday I wouldn't do another one for $350 and hopefully I'll never have to do one again. You probably are low balling yourself but that's a great price you give you customers. I'd pay it.
Best demo on UA-cam. Thank You ❤️
I did it! yay! I thought about leaving the seat in but yeah that had to come out.. so much easier.
Well described repair. Got my fixed!
I used a pocket knife and a propane torch and it worked great. I think the problem is not the door but the actuator not stopping in the correct position braking the blend door.
What an awesome video ... I gotta do this and NOW i think I can .... thank you !!!!
Thanks a bunch for the video, I just picked up the new blend door yesterday and went to harbor freight and got a cheap hot knife, now I'm waiting for the rain to move on through soon as I get it installed I let you know how I did .

It will only go in one way.
Good job I have the same problem and that will save me a lot of money
Thank u so much for this video. I just fixed it on my 2015 Camaro as well. Thank you for your detailed instructions.
Really good video, you went through each step. I would use whatever you are using to reseal the plastic, in the little holes on the door where it breaks to reinforce it from breaking again.
Gave a like and subscribe bc you probably just saved me $400 bucks
Thank you. I have no money but have a camaro hahaha 😅 so I used the torch lighter to melt the blend door pieces Back together even stronger than before and ill tell you what it looks ugly but it works great 👍 atleast there's access now
Update...be very careful like he said on heat core when cutting.
I didn't peirce the heat core but a peice of plastic that was covering that side broke off. Now when I put it together my heat works yes, but now my coolant is leaking with it the vent and it's blowing smoke....now I have to figure a way to patch it up
You could use hi temp silicone gasket sealer and wait for some to dry and then go around the hole again until it’s sealed

@@737mechanic Thanks for the great video and details! AC is blowing super cold again! I have an Xtool D7 and did the relearn. If I do this often should it be okay to move my switch to max AC or max heat or should I avoid doing this at all even if I can run the relearn monthly?

Good idea. Thnaks for all your help. @@737mechanic
One last Q, 737. After a new (aluminum) door install and battery disconnect, I'm still getting a little warmer air on the pass side vs driver's side, did I screw something up? Seems to work thru the warm cycle. Plenty hot. Move to Alaska? 😂 Thx.
Would blend door break again if i get only cold a/c but no heat? When it first broke it was half and half
What breaks the door is the actuator overdives the door past the stop and it stresses the door. The best thing to do is use a scan tool to calibrate it.
It broke again and I just replaced it. What is best way to program it? It was a mf every time :(
@@Digitalizedx The car is suppose to calibrate the actuator itself when you disconnect the battery and start the car but the xtool D7 has a calibration function that will do it properly.

Just got this done, thank you for the video! I had an issue come up after reconnecting everything and starting the car, the HVAC controls don't work properly, when pressing legs and face it comes out of the windshield vent and legs, not the face. There's also some weird popping noises coming from somewhere in the dash when set to face only and max fan speed. Any idea what I can do? Disconnecting the battery should cause the door actuators to recalibrate. You may have a bad mode control actuator.
