he's growing out his hair again! every time I turn around he's got a new look but the sound is still the same old Paul that we've come to love. Rock the world paul, the world is in short supply of awesome. Sustain us.
I noticed alot of people commenting on his change of amps, pickups and guitar styles. Well, I noticed too and I think its a good thing. He's been playing the same stuff for years and its nice to hear him be adventurous. Its still him, no matter the sound! :)
Great tune! Those runs are just awesome, makes you put the needle back and go WTF??? How'd he do that? I can tell the Rhino album is going to be just incredible. He ended his tour in early November 2007 and by the end of that month had it finished. He's a magician as well as a musician. What a great guitarist!
One of the (many) things I love about this video is how Paul puts his hands on his head at the end just after he finishes playing. It's almost like he was suddenly overcome by how much of a fucken genius he is.
he isn't a clown he is Paul Gilbert grow up if you don't like him don't listen to him but don't try to act like a damn hater and alw3ays insult good musicians and guitar players!I'd like to see you playing material like Paul grow up dude!!!Seriously there are so many messed up haters in you tube we don't need more..
For all the people that want to know, im quite sure when paul hits the strings above his left hand and the pitch drops, he is using his modified flanger. It can decrease or increase pitch, and he sometimes uses it as a replacement for a wammy bar seeing as he exclusively uses fixed bridge models now.
Both songs are from his new album, Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar. The first one, is just a little part of Bultaco Sarturno and the other is Norwegian Cowbell. The album is amazing!!!
I agree with you 100%, im so sick of these people that get their kicks by insulting musicisians... i want to see them play that stuff. i for one have been playing guitar for 10 years and i can only wish to be half as good of Paul
Man, this is really good. His rythm track is cool enough to stand on its own and just like Larry Carlton on Kid Charlemenge he plays right through the changes. He has really come around from the "shred" era quite nicely. I love his cadences on the ends of his runs and his attention to the "hook" is very tasteful. I hope he breaks through and gets on the "radio" like Satriani did.
Paul's attitude about music, teaching, and guitar is second to nobody. He always amazes me with his playing any time I hear him, and is hands down my all time favorite shredder. But man I hate the tones he plays with. This vid is no exception.
This is the best fucking song ever, and Paul Gilbert is the best guitar player ever. God, he's like a fine wine, and just gets so so so so much better with age. I really don't understand people saying he peaked in the Racer X days. Idiots.
Thanks. Couldn't believe he uses a pedal for a single note. But that's part of his genius. And he fooled me by striking the note at the nut. :-) I play fixed bridge so no divebomb for me.
exactly but dude it's all on you man be yourself Paul is one hell of an inspiration just work hard no one can tell you what to compose:) it has to be within you see technique is one thing and compositional mind and ideas are inner god gifted...And Yes I agree all these haters need to get a life:) Paul is awesome!
@emmallica I think it's some kind of flanger because his new ibanez signature flanger does that same thing (power drill sound) and he has been searching and using that sound for a long time
effin brilliant! Paul never disappoints, it looks crazy like the zapruder film or something. i wish (they) could mix this with a better sound feed, it would be dvd worthy speaking of wich, check out "get out of my yard" dvd of his
I wish I knew how he made that sound its awesome! If i had to describe it id say it sounds like a reverse Pinch Harmonic meaning it doesnt make the note a higher pitch it makes it a lower pinch.
Sweet! always loved Mr.Paul Gilbert. Such a wide skill set and he executs them all with such a killer attack! If someone could please as i'm not familliar with all of gilbert's stuff, what song was he playing? It looks like it would be a real workout and challenge to even attempt to practice playing. It looks like a great song to really learn bending technique, aswell as those deadly sweep runs! Cheers dudes, IC.
Thats iceman my friend has same guitar but it's build in 1984. he bought it from music store with all guitars and money that he owns. And one guitar was stratocaster
Its one of his old 80's Flanger pedals with the "Modulation" effect turned up to full. Cant remember the specific details, but he turns that on for half a second to make that noise.
Paul gilbert has been know to pre record something very small (but cool sounding) and bring it to the show. so he probably recorded a sweet sound and hit the "play button" as he pretended like he actually played it. you can't get that sound from striking the strings from where he did.
It is an Ibanez reverse iceman. Paul designed it in photoshop. It's made of Kornia wood and has three single-coil pickups. They are higher on the bass side like Jimi Hendrix's. He calls it the "fireman."
i would agree with u, if he still dressed like he did in the 80s and used those purple and pink guitars, but i love the guitars he uses now, and i think he dresses just fine
How can you not get him - it's PABLO!!!! Seriously though, if you are into guitar and don't get into this tune, you would be in the minority I would think..... that said, everyone's entitled to their opinion - personally I think the man ROCKS!
Ibanez, thats his new FIREMAN (reversed Iceman) it was barely announced this NAMM show for production, 10K USD, and only 30 of this are going to be manufactured
another great guitar player that turn to marshall amps...strange, I have always associated gilbert with ibanez-laney..anyway, is he plays vintage-modern combo?
with his left hand, he stays doing a short legato phrase, and with this right hand, he pulls up the string in which hes doing the phrase, with his fingers.. It's an effect for like when you have a floyd rose tremolo system, you can pull the bar backwards, so the string sounds at a higher pitch.. but in Paul's case he does that.. Got me? I also dont know how to call it..
"a vintage A/DA Flanger ("For crazy sounds, I crank up the flanger's Enhance knob in the middle of licks using a Tone In Progress 3rd Hand mechanical expression pedal" at 2:50
The VM amp is great and alot of heavy weight players like Slash have changed to it. I have seen Paul live and I think the VM sounds better then the Laney. Awesome player.
Where's Paul and who put Neal Young in his place???? hahaha Seriously, this is a cool vid. I love the guitar, great tone. Very cool. Anyway, my 2 cents on the amp front, the new Traynor YCH 100 head and cab sound killer... they have the biggest tonal spectrum I have heard, gain into the mesa triple range, are super intuitive to use and cost less than a Peavy JSX 1/2 stack.
I thought the Laney amps had an awful tone. I was amazed he stuck with them for as long as he had. Now his tone is much more metal and perfect for this genre of music!
he's growing out his hair again! every time I turn around he's got a new look but the sound is still the same old Paul that we've come to love. Rock the world paul, the world is in short supply of awesome. Sustain us.
Nothing like a little new Paul Gilbert to make my whole day!
There are no words.
He just keeps getting better.
I noticed alot of people commenting on his change of amps, pickups and guitar styles. Well, I noticed too and I think its a good thing. He's been playing the same stuff for years and its nice to hear him be adventurous. Its still him, no matter the sound! :)
Paul simply put ................is one of the BEST players out there! Definetly one Hell of a Musician.
Great tune! Those runs are just awesome, makes you put the needle back and go WTF??? How'd he do that? I can tell the Rhino album is going to be just incredible. He ended his tour in early November 2007 and by the end of that month had it finished. He's a magician as well as a musician. What a great guitarist!
Thank you for letting me know this. Later and jam on!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the (many) things I love about this video is how Paul puts his hands on his head at the end just after he finishes playing.

god damn not only is he crazy good skill wise but crazy good at writing solos too, a true master.
For all the people that want to know, im quite sure when paul hits the strings above his left hand and the pitch drops, he is using his modified flanger. It can decrease or increase pitch, and he sometimes uses it as a replacement for a wammy bar seeing as he exclusively uses fixed bridge models now.
amazing guitar and playing!
Both songs are from his new album, Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar. The first one, is just a little part of Bultaco Sarturno and the other is Norwegian Cowbell. The album is amazing!!!
Paul is a crazy guitarist...love his work
I love the old school cable. you don't see to many of those around anymore.
4:13-4:25 i've practiced that for about 6 months now and cant' get anywhere near it,my fave lick/ in years! YAY!
Sweet! Thanks a lot!!!
I was at NAMM
HE WAS AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paul gilbert is one of the best.
very very paul gilberto.you very guitarrist!!!!!!!
I agree with you 100%, im so sick of these people that get their kicks by insulting musicisians... i want to see them play that stuff. i for one have been playing guitar for 10 years and i can only wish to be half as good of Paul
love the guitar
i always think to myself that i'd like to hang out paul gilbert someday. seems like a cool guy
The guitar he's got there is his best sounding guitar by far.
Because he's Paul Gilbert... and Paul Gilbert is all about progression... not only in technique but sound. We all like to change it up once in awhile.
Paul's attitude about music, teaching, and guitar is second to nobody. He always amazes me with his playing any time I hear him, and is hands down my all time favorite shredder. But man I hate the tones he plays with. This vid is no exception.
Ha, when he starts playing the song he's like wtf this is a bit clean sounding then kicks in the distortion:D
Love paul gilbert and love this song!!
This is the best fucking song ever, and Paul Gilbert is the best guitar player ever. God, he's like a fine wine, and just gets so so so so much better with age.
I really don't understand people saying he peaked in the Racer X days. Idiots.
4:13 my ears pricked up, that's a lick off intense rock II. Love it!
Thanks. Couldn't believe he uses a pedal for a single note. But that's part of his genius. And he fooled me by striking the note at the nut. :-) I play fixed bridge so no divebomb for me.

GOD! Everyone must kneel before the man!
@tomproctor3 That's his Fireman, a reversed Iceman with a high-register cut and 3 singlecoils,
he developed it with Ibanez that year.
My hero!
Yay i was at NAMM 08'
It was my first time, it was so intense.
I got like majorly lost ha.
@emmallica
I think it's some kind of flanger because his new ibanez signature flanger does that same thing (power drill sound) and he has been searching and using that sound for a long time
Oh yeah I remember that, with the ADA MP-1 preamps in his rack? That combo made for the perfect 80's metal tone!
LOL..He was jamming over the backing song being played while waiting.
He just crazy!!!
saw him with G3. simply amazing
sick bro thanks
What day???? I missed him!!!!
Hey Paul, what does it feel like knowing your the MAN ?
Great job!!!!!
PG is God!! it's not just about speed, and about articulation..paul has it all..plain and simple.
yeah me too, that thing is great!!
EXCELENTE GUITARRISTA
I read their website, and all it says is "What does NAMM stand for? NAMM stands for the global music products industry. NAMM stands for you."
paul gilbert rocks! hardcore style
4:13-4:25 gets me every time... such a fluid melodic arpeggio formation. PG ftw.
lovin' the iceman he's rockin
@Zhaggysfaction Yeah,at that time,he had his ADA flanger with a TIP 3rd Hand pedal to tweak the enhance knob on it.
effin brilliant! Paul never disappoints,
it looks crazy like the zapruder film or something. i wish (they) could mix this with a

Norwegian Cowbell from his new cd SILENCE FOLLOWED BY A DEAFENING ROAR
now available in Japan, European release in March
WTF
that guitar is a beauty!
Sweet! always loved Mr.Paul Gilbert. Such a wide skill set and he executs them all with such a killer attack!

It is a phaser pedal. He shows it in the Young Guitar Feb/08 edition.
2:50 - That sound is so wicked!
the riff @ 1:06 is from a song on "Get out of my yard" album
I love love love that Paul plays Marshalls these days
I want the new album NOW.
Paul gilbert has been know to pre record something very small (but cool sounding) and bring it to the show. so he probably recorded a sweet sound and hit the "play button" as he pretended like he actually played it. you can't get that sound from striking the strings from where he did.

Paul Gilbert looks like a nice and down to earth kinda guy.
Bultaco Saturno, off his new album Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar.

i would agree with u, if he still dressed like he did in the 80s and used those purple and pink guitars, but i love the guitars he uses now, and i think he dresses just fine
Its Bultaco Saturno from Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar.

Cool thanks for sharing!!
Isn't Paul a long time Laney endorsee? Is he now with Marshall?

No JCM pre-dates the Vintage modern range by about 30 years. The vintage moderns came out less than 2 years ago.
Paul seems about as sane and healthy as it's possible for a human being to be: holy crap, rock has a good example?!?!!? ALERT THE MEDIA!
