As someone who knows the original work pretty well, I still can't my head around how he gets so many diverse textures and dynamics out of the guitar... it's incredible!
I am crying!!! It really gives a lot of joy listening to this music and Gilbert seems to have a great time playing this piece! It is fantastic when a musician can play only for joy of playing.
i just think its amazing that he can remember that entire piece note for note, paul gilbert is a musical genius.. i can only dream about being as good as him!!
Gilbert is terrific. He seems like a genuinely nice guy too. And, he's one of the most gifted players i've ever had the pleasure to hear play. Having said that, his tone SUUUUCKS.
Possibly the most amazing part of this, after he laid the whole thing down, the one swift strum of the last chord and he rolls the volume off. What a pro!
It's awesome to see and hear how much fun he's having from 3:22 on... Haydn's symphonies have a lot of humor in them, a lot of false endings and such...
yet he played the piece flawlessly, and very classical sounding at that...don't give this guy a hard time for not recalling it off the top of his head, he's Paul Gilbert, he probably has the largest repertoire of any guitar player on the planet .
How can you really say who is better? Bucket has his crazy sound, Paul has his ability to make music that ROCKS. They can both shred circles around the majority of guitar players. Who is the best? I say they both are.
He wears them because of a perforated eardrum mainly caused by drummers. lol The guitar is meant to sound like that because he is simulating orchestral instruments. The tone is actually very well done.
I think classical songs covered by electric guitarists are very nice sounding. Like canon in D (canon rock) and so on. Paul Gilbert's technique allows him to play so clean. Envy!!! For those who wonders about those paper things hanging from his guitar. I guess he left them there to look cool. Those are inspection papers that follows with Prestige Ibanez guitars when you buy them. They shows that professional people have made the guitar by hand and has been inspected by professionals.
That was the most amazing "classical" rock guitar I've ever seen. I actually played this symphony (double bass) and what this guy has done is no small task.
wow, he is so damned amazing. truly the best I've seen. always so lively as always. my friends say that he has a goofy look always and seems to know nothing but he's actually a god! such an awesome guy
I think I agree with what you just said, so let me clarify. I think any music done with taste and musicality is both appropriate and necessary. If an electric guitarist does this then it has its place. I think most of my colleagues would agree with me here. Unfortunately, too many electric guitarist ignore this or do not care to learn about it, in my opinion, but people like Clapton, Hendrix etc. really found how to play electric guitar on par musically with any classically trained musician.
Well, if Paul said that Shawn was better in every aspect....I would tell Paul that he was wrong to his face. lol It's simply not true. Anyway, keep enjoying Shawn's works, man. He was a great influence and obviously an amazing player! Rock on!
Like I said. Keep in mind, he played all the parts. Also, the main line is not necessarily simple, nor is it easy to play on guitar. Especially the fast 16th note section that goes on forever with alternate picking and string skipping. Compound that with the fact that he plays it pretty flawlessly and clean....and there you have it. Pretty difficult. Just because it's reinforced by tonality doesn't make it any easier to remember. Everything has chord changes.
I think Paul had him on pure alternate picking and intensity. The ability to just sound great in a mix and pull a great tone out of just a cranked up tube amp (not easy to do). Paul's pick attack is amazing. I've never heard anything like it....out of anyone. Shawn had his strengths over Paul though, too. Six of one, half dozen of another. They both are/were great.
Not reduced. He makes a very good living, as you said, but chooses to do this. This is played very well. Also, no guitar synths, here. He get all those tones with his hands and just manipulating volume knob, pickup selector, and a few eq changes here and there. That actually makes it very cool. Shows his talent and the versatile nature of the guitar.
you're right men, he's the one i always dreamin of... wish he's my dad...i also practicing paul's lessons, specially the "Technical Difficulties"... soon i will post my videos here.^_^
You're right about the picking aspect of this song and its difficulty. I was more so referring to the playability of the neck and the action of an electric--his electric particularly--as if to say, "Why not play an electric?" That is, of course, if one can handle the picking aspect, as you so correctly pointed out.
you know i heard him say recently that he NEVER plays sweep arpeggios - shocking or what?! theres a clip out there of him playing stuff that sounds like sweeps but actually isn't. amazing stuff
@ThreeXIFan Yeah same here....I just get really tired of people who act like your worthless and insult you if you don't share their musical tastes. It's not just on UA-cam either, it's everywhere. It gets real old fast too.
The tone you are hearing is the result of great technique and the single coil sounds on the guitar. He has the volume pot rolled down and he is taking advantage of the capacitor that Ibanez puts on the volume pots of some of their models.
I thought so too until i saw a video of him playing "the gargoyle" live on you tube where it's evident that he sweeps. I guess he dosen't do it often though, i too am looking for alternatives for sweep picking now
Well, for starters he can flatpick better than any of those guys, which is why he plays the classical pieces like he does. So, considering that, everything about his performance, tone, presentation, technique, feel...etc. is better in that instance. Especially when playing on a loud distorted amp at 90-100db and still making it sound musical...which is a skill that classical musician simply don't have. There's more, but you may get start to get my point about the apples and oranges thing now.
Paul is so freaking accurate with his playing it's insane!
As someone who knows the original work pretty well, I still can't my head around how he gets so many diverse textures and dynamics out of the guitar... it's incredible!
His guitar work outshines whatever pants he wears.
I am crying!!! It really gives a lot of joy listening to this music and Gilbert seems to have a great time playing this piece! It is fantastic when a musician can play only for joy of playing.
i have no words to describe it. he's beyond god of guitar
Gilbert is super-professional. He knows a lot about music and especially about guitar playing. I'm glad he shares his knowledge in his videos!
Haydn used to get completely exhausted after going to concerts because he listened and concentrated very hard to the music.
Haydn is my absolute favorite composer. This made me very VERY happy!
i just think its amazing that he can remember that entire piece note for note, paul gilbert is a musical genius.. i can only dream about being as good as him!!
Gilbert is terrific. He seems like a genuinely nice guy too. And, he's one of the most gifted players i've ever had the pleasure to hear play. Having said that, his tone SUUUUCKS.
and he pull out the whole song by ear, damn this dude is amazing
He has headphones on. I suspect he has the tune there. All he has to do is keep up, and keeping up is where he is really the god of guitar.
@@woggie001 If you don't know or remember the song, its not help anymore ... his headphone is only an ear protection
@@woggie001 his headphone acts like a hearing aid. Not as a playback tool. He's got a problem with his ear.
It's really beautiful and cheery...Paul Gilbert's diversity is incredible, a true master of the instrument.
I think it's cool that Paul doesn't seem to take himself too seriously he just rocks! True art dudes.
Are you kidding me? It's one of the most useful things a guitarist can put in his arsenal. It opens up a whole new realm of possibilities
Possibly the most amazing part of this, after he laid the whole thing down, the one swift strum of the last chord and he rolls the volume off. What a pro!
Amaizing..... a great guitar player doesn't need a speed demonstration to show that is a virtuosso.... his sound is very clear and play very well...
Yngwie sucks compared to Paul. I'll admit, Yngwie is pretty good, but Paul is worlds better than Yngwie.
+TheGuitarGod18 Paul will make every other guitar player sound dull. Consume with caution :/
Douman Seiman True haha.
The only person who I consider to be able to compete with Paul is Jason Becker.
Buckethead, his student. :)
Glad that you love Jason :) ...... Jason and Paul is my Inspiration
Yngwie is one of Paul's inspirations. And he still has that unique tone and vibrato others simply do not have.
Its amazing how this guy has combined actual classic pieces with the guitar...wow...
Lastly, I have news for you...even classical and jazz musicians agree that Paul's technique is top notch.
His timing here is fantastic.
Guys!!! please stop the arguing! and just enjoy the video of Mr. Paul Gilbert, that's what we're here for in first place!
it's guitarists like Paul Gilbert who keep the classics alive
v.v
It's awesome to see and hear how much fun he's having from 3:22 on... Haydn's symphonies have a lot of humor in them, a lot of false endings and such...
NICE WORK!!!! Great fun, great technique and great musicianship!
yet he played the piece flawlessly, and very classical sounding at that...don't give this guy a hard time for not recalling it off the top of his head, he's Paul Gilbert, he probably has the largest repertoire of any guitar player on the planet .
wonderful! thanks for that video! from 3.27 it's amazing because of the precise playing
The thing I really like about watching Paul Gilbert play is that he always seems to just having a great time.
How many of you guys have had this tune stuck in your head after watching this?! I've been tapping/whistling it all day!
Paul Gilbert accuracy never disappointed me how impressive 🤘
How can you really say who is better? Bucket has his crazy sound, Paul has his ability to make music that ROCKS. They can both shred circles around the majority of guitar players. Who is the best? I say they both are.
This is great! I love Haydn...very underrated composer
i find it amazing that somebody can remember that many notes in order!!
He wears them because of a perforated eardrum mainly caused by drummers. lol The guitar is meant to sound like that because he is simulating orchestral instruments. The tone is actually very well done.
please.. let's not compare..
these guys are unbelievables!
marvelous!! paul gilbert is the man!
How could anyone not like this?
There.....there just aren''t words. The man is just out of this world.
I think classical songs covered by electric guitarists are very nice sounding. Like canon in D (canon rock) and so on.

i love how upbeat this piece is. Seeing it played like this makes me want to learn it.
That was the most amazing "classical" rock guitar I've ever seen. I actually played this symphony (double bass) and what this guy has done is no small task.
thanks Mrs. hansson for record. Paul, well he just fun
oh ok thanks i tried finding it the other day and couldnt find it thanks man :D
I'm saying I like the fact that he jokes around a lot, wasn't criticising his performance in any way.
well done on recording, very good sound recording
otra versión de la genial sinfonía. Curiosa, bravo!
this video shows how paul gilbert comes from another planet.
Better than I expected. Respect!
Epic Lulz were had. I love the piece, and I love Paul Gilbert, and to see him playing this piece is funny as hell.
wow, he is so damned amazing. truly the best I've seen. always so lively as always. my friends say that he has a goofy look always and seems to know nothing but he's actually a god! such an awesome guy
Paul Gilber you Rock bro!! He is so cool. One of my favorite guitar players and one of the bestI think. ROCK ON!!!
ufffffff one of the bests gilbert guitar´s flows !!!!
AMAZING

This brought a smile to my face
i love how paul just picked up a brand new guitar that still has a tag on it
C'est la technique miraculeuse qui surprendrait J.Haydn vraiment.
The timing is perfect
Like I said. Keep in mind, he played all the parts. Also, the main line is not necessarily simple, nor is it easy to play on guitar. Especially the fast 16th note section that goes on forever with alternate picking and string skipping. Compound that with the fact that he plays it pretty flawlessly and clean....and there you have it. Pretty difficult. Just because it's reinforced by tonality doesn't make it any easier to remember. For all of you asking why the tags are still on the guitar, it was because that was a brand new PGM301 that was then sold to a lucky fan.
from rock to classic... paul is just amazing
4:3 LOVE IT!
Paul Gilbert, you're incredible too. As always.
I think Paul had him on pure alternate picking and intensity. The ability to just sound great in a mix and pull a great tone out of just a cranked up tube amp (not easy to do). Paul's pick attack is amazing. I've never heard anything like it....out of anyone.

Amazing, and all that on an off-the-shelf Ibanez with the tags still on it. Gilberto Virtuoso!!
Very well put.
yngvaigilbsteen.....that is probably THE most amazing youtube name ever created hahaha thats incredible dude. nice job =)

Wow! i love the price tags still on the guitar!! PG is friggin awesome!!!
he totally does what (and how) he likes it.. and I'm liking it very much
I thought his tone was pretty crappy too when I started to listen to him. But after a while, you kinda start to "get it". Now I think it's awesome!
Here, yes. The backing track that he's playing to, here is overdubbed parts of him playing all the other parts, as well.
you're right men, he's the one i always dreamin of... wish he's my dad...i also practicing paul's lessons, specially the "Technical Difficulties"... soon i will post my videos here.^_^
Thumbs up for keeping your price note on!

It's a PGM 301 (Paul Gilbert signature model), which is just an RG with a few of his personal touches. : )
I love the sound of that guitar!
I was there! front row. Yes he was using a laney and he was one of the best acts i've ever seen.
well that fact just shows you how amazing paul really is.
wow that was amazing
holy crap, man paul is a god when it comes to guitar.
WOW !! 76 HATERS ?i cant believe it..gilberts pretty much untouchable
This man has taste! Real unique guitar player.
i really love that classical stuff on electric guitar!
Thats sooooo cool. I wanna hear it really loud.
he plays it better than most first violins will ever play it.
Crazy....and amazing! Love you, Paul!
Such a happy piece.
Thank you. : )
pauls dicipline is second to none..
Heard it all! Great stuff! : )
yea thats what i love about paul he keeps everything simple (gear wise)
haha... its great...i am learning it now from this video:) its easier than it looks too..:) thank you!!
you know i heard him say recently that he NEVER plays sweep arpeggios - shocking or what?! theres a clip out there of him playing stuff that sounds like sweeps but actually isn't. amazing stuff
@ThreeXIFan Yeah same here....I just get really tired of people who act like your worthless and insult you if you don't share their musical tastes. It's not just on UA-cam either, it's everywhere. It gets real old fast too.
haha sick! this was filmed on mah bd, to=] made it even better!
Love Gilbert!! Soooo funny the look on his face, the happy happy melody!! But masterly command!!
Think of all the notes he needs to remember... He's truly my Guitar Hero!
The tone you are hearing is the result of great technique and the single coil sounds on the guitar. He has the volume pot rolled down and he is taking advantage of the capacitor that Ibanez puts on the volume pots of some of their models.

El maestro Haydn estaría fascinado, estoy seguro. Me encanta la versión :)
@BSCLOUDY 301, the 300 has the lo-pro tremolo.

pretty incredible stuff
