Ahhhh the ADA-MP1. Had one and sold it had another and sold it. If I kept all the gear I have had over the years and never sold anything…. Man that would have been smart!
My best guess would be EMG 81 and 9 gauge strings. Granted, this would be what he was likely using in the early 90’s. Today I believe he has his own signature pickups and plays .10 I believe.
Gain at about 7.5, overdrive 7, mids -4, bass 4, treble 6. Presence 6. I messed with the settings a bit in the video but I believe these were the base settings.
Your channel is highly underrated! You are really great at capturing tones. I try my best and sometimes I come close. However, I use amp sims so it always has that "fake" sound. You've inspired me to experiment with my tube amp ;).
Thank you for the comment, means a lot. I totally get what you mean by "fake" sounding. Some amp sims are great because of how tweak-able they are but they can often sound a bit digital. It's good to try your best with what you've got and that's awesome that you try to create your own tones. I'm happy to share my content & gear with other cool guitar players such as your self. 👍
It’s really close! I’d love to have a go on that rig. Just gotta take some of that high fuzzyness out and more mid scoops, maybe a bit more gain. It’s my favourite guitar tone ever.
There is more tweaking you could do but I made no adjustments to the sound. The black album tone is tricky because it’s at least quad tracked and super thick and wide sounding. I believe they even used a baritone guitar to thicken the sound.

Still not too late to buy another one. I have seen them sell for $400-600, on the used market.
Definitely in the ballpark with Kirk’s tones. Do we know if Kirk uses 81/60 EMGs or 85s? Also, maybe .10-.46 strings or ?

@@ShredHeads it’s insane how they made that sound. Yours is super close though
Please could you tell us the settings of MP1? 🙏

If it’s not in the video. I definitely don’t remember. 🤷♂️
