  • Hi there, Doug Stuman with IT Creations. This is one of the new 15th generation PowerEdge servers, the Dell EMC PowerEdge R750. It offers hybrid storage and several other new features. This system takes over from Dell’s previous generation R740 server. It supports 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 40 physical cores in a standard 2U chassis. It may look a lot like the previous version, but a lot has changed on the inside to make this system stronger, faster, and better than it was before. Sorry…the Six Million Dollar man keeps popping up on my Netflix feed.
    There are three things I am loving about this platform. First, all NVMe U.2 drives as an option up front. Second, A dual hot-swap M.2 drive caddy accessible from the rear of the chassis. And third, the Dell network daughter card or NDC, has now been firmly replaced with an OCP card for flexible I/O. I mean the I/O with the NDC was flexible but there are just more options now using OCP. I forgot to include that 3rd generation Intel … Watch the video!!

    Great overview. Learned a couple things. Your presentation was high bit rate too! (that's a good thing)

      Glad you liked it! Subscribe, there's more where that came from. I placed a few links to our landing page, which does have more information and a documentation section at the bottom if you want to see the specs and user guide. Thanks for watching!

    nice video!, if let say we buy 8 bay 2,5" and after 1 year we need additional 8 more disk, are those empty slot able to add more disks?

      In theory, yes, you would need a backplane, the drive cage and cables to power it, perhaps a new controller and expander. In reality, Dell has kind of blocked that from happening for several generations. You are better off just getting the 16-- or 24-bay version if you plan on expanding storage. Thanks for watching!

    If you have to install a SAS card extension, can that be done from the back without having to lift the lid?
    Thanks

      No, you will have to remove the cover and pop it into one of those PCIe slots or the front slots depending on the configuration - of which there are many. Check out the User guide installation manual. Search PERC (poweredge RAID controller) and search PCIe. www.itcreations.com/user-manuals/poweredge-r750/dell-emc-poweredge-r750-installation-and-service-manual.pdf

    I'm planning on buying two of these for my simulation work. If i choose the 24 2.5inch chassis option and fully populate them with 24 u.2 drives, can i set all 24 of them into a single RAID0 config? The configurator on Dell's website doesnt seem to have any RAID option listed for front U.2 drives.

      Hi 權埈映,
      I don't think the configuration you are suggesting is one supported on this platform. Also with RAID0 you do have the best storage performance but no redundancy or room for failure. Here is a link to some information regarding Dell HW RAID for NVMe devices. cdn-prod.scdn6.secure.raxcdn.com/static/media/DAM_5527f94f-1041-4f04-9234-b4659c04ea72.pdf

    Which one is the SAS port?

    • @Itcreations-LA
      @Itcreations-LA  Рік тому

      There is no SAS port. SAS drive formats are handled by a PowerEdge RAID Controller, or PERC. that is pretty much standard on all servers-aside from it being a Dell-specific PERC… As an example, here is a link to the Installation and Service Manual with a wiring diagram for a SAS drive implementation on page 78, figure 77, there are a bunch of other storage configurations so flip through that section to see more options. www.itcreations.com/user-manuals/poweredge-r750/dell-emc-poweredge-r750-installation-and-service-manual.pdf
      Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

      I am going to assume you want a specific configuration? Unfortunately, our configurator is not set up just yet for this system. However, if you contact our sales department directly you can add in your specific configuration and we will probably get back to you in about 2 hours with a quote. sales@itcreations.com. Or you can go to our page for more information on the R750 server and hit the "Request a Quote" button at the top of the page for a link to add in your configuration… bit.ly/3hseG9U
