Yeah we had parents who were happy to cook. So the band bought ingredients at Costco. And the parents make like pasta and stuff. It’s easier to buy in bulk
I don't even know these kids but after watching this now I do. Through the universal connection of marching band. We were united across years, a timeless connection. Something really special is in this video and it doesn't take a whole lot to figure it out.
Wow its cool to see how diff bands are, im in north texas and have 2400 kids at my school with a 300+ person band and striking how differently the bands work even though we still have our little chants and cheers
Awesome vid brings back so many great memories my 4 years in high school marching band they were the best 4 years of my life miss them terribly....the early morning practices, Friday night football games, competitions and parades.
Carlos Puchol Ohhhh haha sorry I just realized that you were just their videographer and not one of the band members, my bad. Great vid though btw!! It’s so awesome that you did this
Carlos Puchol Ah, that makes sense. Dang though that’s cool, it must be a lot of fun being able to relive high school marching again & to see the new generations for a day
I currently go to this school and am in marching band. It’s crazy watching the band from years past. I see friends who are older now but still go to the school. Awesome vid and I’m glad I found it!
It's so fun watching how other bands work! I absolutely love summer marching band with the parades. but marching season only consists of two comps for us and it's a lil sad. it's always cold during our football games too, ugh!
Man I wish we had tables to sit at during competitions...Also you should see if you can follow our band, we're the Liberty High School Marching Band based in CO Springs 150 ish people and weird staff and kids all around
You should see if you can follow our band for a day. We’re in Cupertino (Homestead High). We have a 200+ person band. Also, is that the Independence High competition? We might have been there.
On the bus I have to sit beside an annoying conversation controlling kid and I asked my director"can I ride on the roof" he said If you were Spiderman I'm looking for a spider and working on some gloves as we speak 😂😂😂
@@Natearl13 traditional gave me a hard time at first too, but you have to practice it and get calluses, just like 4 mallet Burton's grip or 4 mallet Stevens grip
@@ian-go1ih Modern snare drums are snare drums used for concert band. If we're talking marching snare drums, then many (if not all) marching snare drums are manufactured to have a tilt so that you can play traditional, like back in the days where soldiers carried around the field drum.
Marching band is amazing!😭💓 Yesterday was our last football game and it's hard saying bye to the people that have to leave u just get in touch with them so much that at the end it's hard saying bye😭❤️
do they not have shirts they're supposed to wear under their uniforms? My band (and I'm sure many other bands) get dry fit shirts the we specifically wear under uniform.
Lyla Laycre really? I’m pretty small (5’ and a bit underweight) but I’ve always just worn the uniform and rolled up the pants. We got new uniforms this year that are a lot more adjustable so it’s for now.
Yeah!! I believe it was at Logan! They change the grass all the time. But sometimes it’s like a carpet. And it leaves colorful fibers on your shoes after!
My band is a cult I swear. We are just a ton of crackheads at times. (AheM PRACTICE) but then we have our really fun and serious times when for example our detector broke a drumstick and it hit him in the face. Many memes were made. But like serious times when we need to practice. It's so much fun and I'm excited to do this for all four years of highschool plus 8th grade. (The county does this thing if basically you want to be in highschool marching band as an 8th grader your allowed to but you must take one fine arts class for at least a full semester
Wow that’s awesome! That’s the way to keep a strong band. Get the 8th graders curious and interested so they start high school with friends in the marching band! I have a recurring thought where everyone that has ever been in a marching band was in the same marching band. I feel everyone has the same experience and the same vibe. Everyone in these comments say similar things and I thinks it’s so great!!!!
Unfortunately most bands have no say in what they perform. My band director won't let us choose because he doesn't think were advanced enough for some of the better ones.
Carlos Puchol Still. At our school, you have to have at least a short sleeve shirt on because otherwise your underarms rub, get sweaty, and ruin our jackets.
That was the first time it happened during a show. It was good to integrate into the show since it added a new aspect that wasn’t usually seen on field shows
We had people playing baritone instead! We were a pretty small band. Like 50-60 piece band. But it’s also easier to transition a trumpet player like my self over to baritone instead of trombone since the valves tend to be quicker to learn than positions
Adrianna Williams you usually don’t march trombones in better marching bands. Look at the bands that made it to finals. It’s a higher class type thing.
At least in our area in California we have a bunch of bands that march trombone. So I understand +AdriannaWilliams . Our band was just too small to have a section for trombones with two people
I currently go to this school and am in marching band. It’s crazy watching the band from years past. I see friends who are older now but still go to the school. Awesome vid and I’m glad I found it!
Yall have like a four course meal. At comps we usually get like chips and a water. If its further away we might go somewhere. 😂
Yeah we had parents who were happy to cook. So the band bought ingredients at Costco. And the parents make like pasta and stuff. It’s easier to buy in bulk

That is precisely what I tried to get out of the video
Tbh if ur not in marching band, ur missin out on so much fun
Soooo trueee
and pain lol
Omg. Yeah. It’s a workouttttt!
No Way! you switched on and off the field. that's pretty cool. must have been a lot of coordination to practice with both sections.
So true
Wow its cool to see how diff bands are, im in north texas and have 2400 kids at my school with a 300+ person band and striking how differently the bands work even though we still have our little chants and cheers
Im a wakeland hs, we at the san antonio state competition if you want to see it
Wow. It’s funny how even so far away a lot of the quirks and chants and stuff are so similar!
And yeah. I’ll have to find you guys!
Reagan Thompson dang we have 3400 kids and only 120-ish people in our marching band
Reagan Thompson I'm at Aledo hs!
I love this community! Everyone is friendly
OKAY BUT I CANT HELP BUT NOTICE THAT YOUR PLUMES LOOK LIKE THOSE MOPS IN A CAR WASH 😂 I LOVE IT
Bahaha. Yes. Yes they do!
They need to wash their car some how XD
being in a small band seems like such a cool experience, because everyone is friends with everyone!
Yes! Definitely had some “grass is greener on the other side” moments, but small band was awesome because everyone was very close
Awesome vid brings back so many great memories my 4 years in high school marching band they were the best 4 years of my life miss them terribly....the early morning practices, Friday night football games, competitions and parades.
I completely agree! It was like having a social life with friends that loved the same stuff you did
Came here for the title, but stayed once I saw this was at my school's comp haha. Hope to see you guys back again this year!
Me too! I probably won’t be filming tho!
Carlos Puchol Ohhhh haha sorry I just realized that you were just their videographer and not one of the band members, my bad. Great vid though btw!! It’s so awesome that you did this
I was a band member but when I shot this I was an alumni!

It was great! All the fun with non of the work haha!
I've only marched in one parade. We didn't do anything cool just walked as best as we could, but I was also a freshman. This all looks so cool!
We had training for it
our marching band is like the same way we warm up sing our parts just got fun play our songs and all have fun at the same time !!
That’s the best way to do it!!!
I currently go to this school and am in marching band. It’s crazy watching the band from years past. I see friends who are older now but still go to the school. Awesome vid and I’m glad I found it!
Share with your friends! Maybe Johnny will have me back to make another video
Lol I'm in the James Logan marching band so I sort of flipped when I saw this. Hope everyone had a good time and comes again!
Definitely!!!!! Great to see a Bay Area band on here!
5:26 this chord reminds me of the Bluecoats ballad in 2014 Hymn Of Axciom
It may be. I don’t remember tbh
Its the same key I think... i hear what ya mean🖒
Beautiful chord. And that’s a beautiful hymn
I didn't know they did choir. 😂
Yeah. We tried to sing our part as much as possible. It helps with internalizing the pitches and what other part are around you.
It's so fun watching how other bands work! I absolutely love summer marching band with the parades. but marching season only consists of two comps for us and it's a lil sad. it's always cold during our football games too, ugh!
Oh man. Where are you at? You should come down and join a season in CA with us
I LOVE the Newsies!! So cool that you all know!

If you get me an invite then I can try and be there
Ha! I love it 😂 Marching band is the best!!
I love it too! Marching band is a way of life
Today I found myself doing breathing exercises at work
Gotta love the announcer “the score is 70.05. I say again 70.05 is the score” 😂😂
Nice to see a band that likes the Newsies.
YEAH! Love it!!
wow. that's pretty accurate, at least for a smaller band like I'm in. the food though, wow
I think we were pretty pampered
You should see if you can follow our band for a day. We’re in Cupertino (Homestead High). We have a 200+ person band. Also, is that the Independence High competition? We might have been there.
You invite me and I’m there!

I’d be happy to make a rendition of Homestead High. Talk to the Director and lmk!

I'm looking for a spider and working on some gloves as we speak 😂😂😂
HAHAHA. well lmk when you get it up and running
this video helps a lot cause i’ll be marching next year!
Yay. I’m excited for you. You are going to have a blast!!!
The snares are playing match grip smh
Jackson Why does it matter lol
@@Natearl13 Match grip is lazy teaching/lazy learning
Alex Rosalez I guess, but traditional grip is just really uncomfortable. The sticks always cut my fingers when I use it.
@@Natearl13 traditional gave me a hard time at first too, but you have to practice it and get calluses, just like 4 mallet Burton's grip or 4 mallet Stevens grip

How many trumpets are in this band? It's hard to tell from the pictures. Let's go high brass!!
Hmm. I want to say at least 6. So probably between 6-10 trumpet players
That's cool. Our band has about 16
Wow!!! That’s awesome. Basically double. That’s insane!
OMG! A Newsies show! Why can’t my band do that that is amazing!
It was so much fun! It was great!
I wish my band would do Contras, and I’m jealous of the kid with the black alto, except heck the altos long live the tenor sax
Isaac yea someone in my band has a black tenor, I would kill for a black tenor.
Marching band is amazing!😭💓 Yesterday was our last football game and it's hard saying bye to the people that have to leave u just get in touch with them so much that at the end it's hard saying bye😭❤️
Yeah. It was definitely hard to say goodbye. I miss it very much
Yeah😪😭
I understand!
I love how almost everyone here is already in marching band, and don't know why they're even watching this.
Hahahahahaha
Where are the baritone saxophones?
I don’t think we had any Bari’s that year! I know, so sad :(
But I gotta say, congrats on first place with 70+ points
Thank you! I appreciate it!
They are playing newsies, my heart has melted
Yeah!!!
I miss marching season so much
I miss it too. I want to find a way to get back into it
Haha i love like how they use school buses when my school uses charder buses everywhere, even when the school is 5 minutes away
The school buses tend to be more available for us.
true but also i guess a big part of it is that i go to a rich high school idk maybe thats something
That could also be why lol
Same. Our score yesterday was 72.81. We also got fourth 🤗
No wayyyy. Niceeee!!! Congrats!!!
Nice! Is that Santa Clara CA??
+Jess Gainz yes it is!
do they not have shirts they're supposed to wear under their uniforms? My band (and I'm sure many other bands) get dry fit shirts the we specifically wear under uniform.
We have t shirts they we wear. And then we wear gym shorts as well!
I see...do your regular clothes resemble what the uniform looks like?

Where my trumpet squad at??
That’s me!! Wasssup!!!!
9:53 what was that noise.
Your guess is as good as mine
Im in a marching band but its a community marching band called dream nation
Wow! And how do you like it?
@@CarlosPuchol i love it its fun
Good! I love it too. It’s such a blast. Is it still going on with Covid?
hi! i was wondering what group you’re in at comps. my band looks around the same size, and we’re 3 open (we write our own shows). are you also 3?
I think the comps we were at went my A rating. So our band was 1A. Now (like today) this band is about 70 people and I think they qualify for 2A
So much newsies ahahahahah
Yeah! It was their field show that year! It was super cool to watch!
OH MY GOD! Is that Logan High School? I've competed there twice before! They have turf and not real grass -_-
Yeah!! I believe it was at Logan! They change the grass all the time. But sometimes it’s like a carpet. And it leaves colorful fibers on your shoes after!
My schools marching band has 30-40 people in it plus maybe 15 people for colorguard.. usually smaller than that. This is weird for me😂
I totally understand!! Also, I miss marching band too!! Send this video to your band members and keep the love for marching band alive!

Our band director keeps our field show secret then announces it once he has decided
@@CarlosPuchol same with ours. We have an auction dinner in March and towards the end of that he'll announce the theme of the next year's show.
Ahh. That’s cool. Our director just held a meeting with the band in the theater to reveal the show
Dem memories tho
YEAH! I MISS IT!
Reset/top of the show
UGH. that was the worst when we were like 10 mins before the end of the practice.
The color guard is for real bigger than the band.
It really is. That seemed to be the case every year
Dang
snares with matched grip SMH, what happened to traditional.
To each their own, i guess
The one girl wore a tank top under her uniform! That is a big no-no.
+AnimalLovers at what minute
Carlos Puchol 2:29
+AnimalLovers that's a sports bra. Then the overalls on top
Carlos Puchol Still. At our school, you have to have at least a short sleeve shirt on because otherwise your underarms rub, get sweaty, and ruin our jackets.
+AnimalLovers I see. When I went here we would get the overalls dry cleaned after every show. And the tops would get cleared after like 5 shows.
Are men allowed to join color guard?
Yes. Anybody can join color guard!!!
Okay
You guys march contra????
Yes. We do now. When I was there I marched the Sousaphone. But shortly after they started marching the Contras
WHERE THE HELL ARE THE TROMBONE'S WTF
All the baritone players are trombone players originally. But I can tell you they were very cool baritone players
Some schools switch trombones to baritones. Honestly, for me, the change was much easier
To each their own.
this is cool and all but we have 8 people in our marching band
Nice. I’ve been close with 13 in the marching band.
No gauntlets??
Lol no. Not in that band. I was at a different high school before Santa Clara and they had gauntlets, and I remember they were a pain to put on!!!
My band sings but not when performing
That was the first time it happened during a show. It was good to integrate into the show since it added a new aspect that wasn’t usually seen on field shows
We sing take me home country road and baby shark
Marching band is really fun
That sounds like so much fun. It’s definitely a culture
I don't see any trombone's I'm pissed
+terrance Scott sorry. But I can tell you for a fact that all the baritone players also play trombone. In the marching band we just used baritones.
Tiara Scott a lot of better bands don’t allow trombones in their marching band.
Aww that’s no fun! We had very few low brass players so we thought it would be silly to have a trombone section on 1-2 people
man your marching band is small. ours has 365 people.
We learned to make peace with it. Everyone was friends with everyone!
Ours is 400 lol
Wow. Impressive! Whereabouts are you roughly?
My band is like 20-30 people
Also VERY impressive. Both big bands and small bands have their pros and cons!
Yall have to memorize your music???
Yes we do. It sounds daunting but it’s not that bad!
@@CarlosPuchol I've got lot first 2 movements done but the 3rd one is so hard and there is no way imma be able to memorize it
If you were able to memorize the first two movements then you can get the third one! I promise
It's such a small band.
Yeah! It just means you get to know everyone really well
This band is wayyy to hype, I mean, you should be hype, but it's not a good idea to be that hype in uniform.
They go all out all the timeeee
AM I BLIND BECAUSE I CANT FIND ANY TROMBONES
We had people playing baritone instead! We were a pretty small band. Like 50-60 piece band. But it’s also easier to transition a trumpet player like my self over to baritone instead of trombone since the valves tend to be quicker to learn than positions
Haha. Yeah!!! It’s true. We filled the Denny’s private room after every competition!!!! My freshman yeah we had trombones doing suicides
Adrianna Williams you usually don’t march trombones in better marching bands. Look at the bands that made it to finals. It’s a higher class type thing.
I’ve made a mistake uhhhhh okay😂. i’m only in high school so this is all i know. im in suicides and its really fun so thats why i noticed lol
At least in our area in California we have a bunch of bands that march trombone. So I understand +AdriannaWilliams . Our band was just too small to have a section for trombones with two people
The tenor sax that was keys down triggered me so much. DONT DO THAT
I feel you. It’s ridiculous how those school instruments are misused. People don’t learn until it’s their own property
They look like minions
Maybe they should do that as a field show then!!!
Thats a small band
Yeah. It really is!
u would think if ur in santa clara that vanguard would give u some nice spankin dynastys but i guess not
Man. I wish. That were true!!! I remember that we did get some instruments. But still had to buy it from them
man that stinks, carolina crown started giving us old brass after we had a truck fire in 09
Oh man. That sounds rough. I’m glad they helped you guys out though!
Carlos Puchol yeah we just got a load of 2016 contras
Wow. That’s awesome. I marched a Sousa since we didn’t have any contras at the time. But it would have been awesome to have 2016 contras!
Damn, that's one cocky ass band. Hope your ego doesn't hit you on the way out. 😉
Lmaoo
