We might look like a bunch of sweaty dorks, but gosh we are so much more and this video showcases that. We are a family. Sometimes tighter knit than a normal family. I highly reccomend marching band to anyone. I mean its alot of work, but that work pays off. That work makes you feel better in the long run. We break stereotypes. We are marching band. Its an honor to march.
My family always thought there was something wrong with me for liking music. Always tried to change me. In band I've found my true family. The people who truly love me and care for me regardless of my flaws and even if we're different they're like my brothers and sisters and I wouldn't trade them for the world.
There are so many people that I love in my marching band that I never would have met if I hadn’t made the decision to join. Band is even closer than family, and it introduces you to people who will be with you for the rest of your life.
“Band is pointless” “Band requires no talent” “Why are you even in band” “Band kids are stupid” “Band kids are only in band because they’re not athletic enough to be in anything else” No. Band builds trust. Band builds friendship. Band builds loyalty. Band builds faith. Band builds perseverance. Band builds determination. Band builds relationship. Band builds talent. Band builds family. I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for band. All of my friends are from band. All of the people I love and trust are from band. All of the people who have stuck with me, who have helped me, who have been there for me, and who have helped build me as a person are from band. Band requires everything. And band gives you everything.
Exactly. I was considering suicide before I joined band and even in concert band I still didn't enjoy my life. I joined marching band and all those thoughts were gone and even when I do start to have issues again my band family is there for me and helps me through everything. I love them and I probably wouldn't be alive without them.
All these middle school kids say they can’t wait. Marching band is great, but half the time you are just wanting to sleep or drink water. Especially when practicing. But hey, you get a new family.
This video hit almost too close. As a senior percussionist, (Synthesizer all 4 years) marching band has become such an important part of my life. I don't even have the words to describe how much it has shaped me as a person and given me so much responsibility. So many new family members, so many memories, so many "One More Time" moments to count. Thank you for creating this beautiful compilation video. It's not just for your high school. It's for all marching bands. And to the underclassmen, keeping going hard.
lol i'm currently a sophomore and i played synth freshman year lol. i just didnt like it bc i love 4 mallet stuff and you dont use mallets for keyboards lolol
This video is all the things I wish I had from band. I am a band kid, but I didn’t have any friends (still don’t) no one who supported me, stuck by me, encouraged me. No one to go to when it mattered most, not even my section leaders. I keep hearing people say how they had all of these great things from band and I wish I could’ve had those as well. The only thing I got from band (other than love being in a marching band) is getting to play music. For me the music was the best part not only because it was fun to play, but it was also challenging, and it was the only thing I had that didn’t involve getting bullied by fellow band members or being ignored by said members. I’m happy for the people who got friends out of band, but I can only imagine what that is like. That’s a sad reality. No matter how tightly knit the group may seem, there’s always someone who stands alone.
okok i’m in eighth grade and i’m deciding whether i should join. it’s about the people that i’m scared of and i really want to just get over that. i’m scared of judgement from other people plus i have no friends in marching band lol i’m a very sad person so should i join
ever since covid my band has dropped 100 people, now we have 60 people but we’re an even tighter family than before. There might be some tough moments and a LOT of drama but it’s so worth it because you make so many friends out of it. Lots of tears when the seniors graduate and lots of happy moments. I love band, all my friends are my band friends, it’s amazing
Yaassss I can't wait for next marching season lmao like school can just end already , honestly band is one of the most emotional journeys in my entire life, my band worked so hard and we won ACCs!!!
Another thing that makes marching band (and drum corps, too) amazing is that we really don't compete. We aren't like any other sport, because we don't see one another as rivals or enemies. We see each other for our suffering together. We suffer together, and that makes us a tight-knit family. We'd help each other out if someone in another band forgot their instrument, we'd comfort those who lost, and we'd help anyone we could. My sister plays sousaphone (marching tuba), and one show was a competition, and she forgot her instrument. One of the people from a completely different band gave her theirs. It may not have been the right color, but it was better than nothing, and it did the job perfectly. They got first place in every category this past year. They're on a winning streak, having won first in every competition!
If it's uncomfortable you're doing it correctly. Welcome to marching band. Honestly I want to thank band for taking away my social life because I'm more social now and I'm more comfortable with being myself. I want to thank band for introducing me to my secondary family. I want to thank band for my life, honestly.
I can’t even describe how much I love marching band. Literally the reason why I survive is bc of band. It’s so much fun, I finally met who I love spending times with. Marching band people are my family and I love everything about them. I cannot imagine my life without marching band. Even though I’m a freshman, it’s so sad to think about my last performance ever as a senior (hopefully in college)
Only a band kid knows the feeling. it truly is the best thing in the world. I'm in the army and college for music degree. Band truly was the best part of my life and shaped who i am. This is the meaning of life. the journey, the memories. sweaty competitions and long rehearsals. constant resets. but that feeling. the one only a band kid can know. there is just nothing like it.
I used to be so shy and timid and so afraid of people before I went into band . But after being in band 6 th- 12th grade it has turned me into a better person and I am much more out going and I would never trade any of those precious moments in band for anything
I'm a freshman and marching band has been so amazing so far. I've wanted to quit but after walking out and marching my first halftime show, I realized that I can't live without band. This is my fourth year in band and I'm just so happy to be apart of such a dorky family.
A band is only as good as its Director. I learned to play many instruments in band. I am very thankful for my experience of band. My last performance was Graduation day 1984. I miss it very much. Shalom
I was in marching band all 4 years in high school. Having just graduated college, I have been out for a while, but I will always look back on my time in marching band very fondly. I made many friends and had great experiences that I wouldn't trade for the world. My older brother was also in marching band and it was through band that I was introduced to drum corps (DCI) and I still follow some of the DCI competitions today. All the long days in the hot, sweltering heat in the summer and into the fall were worth every minute going from just learning how to march as a freshman and getting over the nerves of having to memorize all the music and drill and choreography, to almost winning (coming in 2nd place) as a junior my state's 5A competition and then my final year and having to bid farewell to some pretty fantastic 4 years of my life (although college was also pretty good and fun too). I still get chills rewatching some of my old marching shows and DCI shows. Being a part of the show from the beginning, just learning the first set and playing the music with it, all the way to the state finals was a great experience and one that I will never forget.
Band has personally help me get into better shape and has helped a lot with motivation which are both two things that I struggle with. I am so proud of myself for making it to where I am now and I’m only a couple years in.
I’m in middle school and I’m not in marching band I’m just in jazz band but I can say band helps shape lives it helps build friendships and the band is just a big family ❤️
I love band because mostly of Marching Band. It’s fun you get to make friends and those friends become your family. Me coming into marching band camp I had 2 friends in there but now I’m friends with most of the band besides a few
I complain about practices alot. About the bruises on my arm (im in cg) all the sweat, and blood. People tell me all the time, "just quit." They don't understand that you can't just quit. It takes commitment, but that's not the reason I can't just quit. If I do, my life will be missing something. I will miss the weird people I love all around me and my flag. Yeah, practices suck sometimes, but it's soo worth it. The band room is like my second home.
There are always so many people in marching bands, and people always think and say that theres "so many people how do they all know and care about each other" but like in a decent sized band of 120 kids like everyone knows each other and theres drama obviously like theres drama everywhere but at the end of the day we all care about each other we all are a big family and I love that. I just dont get the reputation band kids get. We are a big family and we all care about each other people who dont like it obviously havent had anything like that before
50,000 THOUSAND VIEWS! I called it! - 5 months ago I totally called it! :) Congratulations, Leah. What an objective indication of your talent with film.
I had a youth night with the marching band and I played with them and it was wonderful... Unfortunately, I won't be able to join as my parents aren't able to keep up with the rigorous schedule but I'm glad that I at least had one experience with them.
I am a three year vet mellophone. Trust me, the practice will be rough, the days will be long, but there is no family like the band family, and no experience like the marching band experience.
I love marching band I’m just a freshman but I’ve already made some great memories and some great friends, I play trumpet it’s a easy instrument but it takes a lot of effort but it’s also really fun
My very last championship performance was last night (we got 4th out of 10 ayeeeee) and let me tell you, I cried like a baby. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to quit and I can tell you that I would’ve regretted it if I ever actually quit. My band is my 2nd family. Yes, we all have drama and can’t stand each other some times, but guess what? Families go thru that stuff! If there’s any band kids thinking about quitting and y’all are reading this, do NOT! you will regret it! You’ll build so many memories that you’ll look back on in 10 years and smile about. Don’t let one little thing your band director, guard instructor, or section leader says make you quit! For real for real. Periodt.
I just finished my eighth grade season of marching with the high school. It’s magical, it’s painful, and it’s beautiful; and in the end, I’d do it forever if I could. Being one of six eighth graders in a program of over a hundred high school winds made me realize the strength of character you can build over a few short months; it gave me a family and a special bond with my sister, who was a senior for this season; it made my mind and my body strong in ways nothing else can. It’s made me a better horn player, a better person, and a better friend. I can be unapologetically weird at band; I can be terrified of life; I can fall in the knowledge that others will be there to help me up. Join marching band. You won’t regret it.
My 4 years in high school marching band back in the late 80's were the best years of my life lots of hard work but always worth it in the end miss those times.
marching band helped me find my second family. it created new ties and more smiles than I ever could have hoped for. future high schoolers, if you’re into music this is the place for you. we all wanna be your friend! ;)
My marching band is the greatest thing I’ve ever done, and I appreciate everyone so much. I never have time to do anything, but I’m always surrounded by people who love and appreciate me.
Marching band is one of my favorite things ever! In marching band, members get really close. I feel alive when I’m marching. It’s exhausting, but extremely worth it and I absolutely recommend it.
I love band, every aspect of it. I seem to kind of enjoy putting the effort through to see how far me and the band has come at the end of each season and the moments made along the way are unforgettable. Also was this an Oklahoman band? I see my own high school, Southmoore at 3:10!
You never knew this Leah, but I did band. I was percussion: base drum! That thing was UNCOMFORTABLE! This video is almost at 10k! Next, 50k! CONGRATS ahead of time, Leah!
I am a three year vet mellophone. Trust me, the practice will be rough, the days will be long, but there is no family like the band family, and no experience like the marching band experience.
Band was my home away from home. My home life was pretty rough, and I struggled with a drug problem through school, but no one was more supportive than my band. Band taught me that with hard work comes success. I remember knowing when my last football game was coming, I was sobbing and told myself that this will be the last time I ever march. But this last time, I will march with my chin held high and with every roll step I took, I would take with pride. I began sobbing with the last few steps, and on the last step, I finished out the note, and broke down in tears. The show was called Imagine and it was Willy Wonka themed. My band director let us finish the last set which was our competition bow because we still had time left. In this last set, the entire band jumps and dances around until we all meet in the middle, and the field commander and feature twirler were held up and smiled at each other while holding their hands up. The band all turns around facing the entire stadium, and we all did our signature bow. I then always led the band off the field. I could not stop crying for such a long time lol.
Having gone to a technical high school that didn't have band, this makes me regret not signing up for band at the high school of the city I live in. Instead, I jumped straight into DCI and I'm having to figure everything out as I go. DCI is definitely making me a better person, and is helping me watch my mouth a little more, and I'm wicked excited for this season! If anyone reads this and is able to go to any of my shows, I'm with the Spartans this summer as a contra.
Yeah in DCI everyone comes from all over the world to come together and make great music. I’m sure your Corp is completely down to help you become the best performer you can be. I’m marching, too! Have a fun this season!!
I really wanna march so good luck to both of you guys this season. I’m actually only 14 and starting music at 10. I want to try next season for jersey surf however my goal is cavaliers ( as the runs through the family .) Any tips?
I love band!! All my good friends are from band. I showed up at school at 5:00 A.M. just for band. I will do anything it takes to stay with my band family. ♥️💫
This is so true, like all people in highschool think band people are crazy and wild and disrespectful and all that but this video is just so amazing I already miss marching season so much band is my life and the people are my family 100%
I’m a freshman and I love band, I hated the first week of band camp, but that’s cuz I didn’t really know anyone and because it was my first week of band camp, but now marching season is almost over and I’m sad ):
I was sitting in school and then I was talking about band with a friend. Then, someone in ASB came up to us and said ASB is sooo much better because you get to plan stuff and have your phone out. Im like, ?????? Why does that matter in band you get to actually achieve something and be confident in yourself when being in ASB is not a talent its just planing things for the school.
My first day of marching band camp, i was not exited. I didn't know what i was getting myself into. But now, i'm hyped for next year. I honestly cant wait :D
Its 9 to 9 practices band is rough on the body especially if you decide to do drum corps. Its even worse. Marching band was great and it led for me to pursue dci. BAND FOR THE WIN. 😊
In my (of like 21,000) we start marching in 7th grade in A parade and 3 marching practices. 8th grade we do 2 parades, one in winter and one near the end of the school year. In high school, you do so much marching, it’s unbelievable
I'm gonna be going to highschool this year, so its gonna be my first year marching. I'm scared, but also really excited for it. Im just worried that I wont be good enough.
Amelia Burch You’ll get it. When I first started I sucked a**. I couldn’t memorize my music & was almost always off my dot when we marched to it. I seriously wanted to quit, but I didn’t & now it’s easy. I don’t how how to say it, but it just comes. You practice so much that you get it. I play the baritone this year but will be switching to snare drum next year, so I’ll have to kinda start all over again lol.
Natearl13 thanks! We've had about a month of band camps total, and we already have half of the show on the field, with music. And you're right, it does just sort of come to you. I match trombone with also isnt the easiest thing, but I love it.
One time before a competition our band director told us to put on our uniforms then get on the bus Literally no one put on their uniform before getting there and we just brought them, so we all got our jacket and hat and everything on, on the bus so needless to say it was so crowded and chaotic I wouldn't trade it in for a second Also close to the end of the season at a football game I grabbed the wrong hat and had to go the rest of the season with my hat too big At a football game once we were literally barely in the bleachers and somehow the football team already had a touchdown so we had to scramble to play the fight song One time it was so cold and all pretty much everyone had was a sweatshirt and maby gloves so I think just about everyone went inside multiple times on a "bathroom break" to warm up a bit I wouldn't trade these for anything in the world
“I can’t, I have band” is a sentence every band kid will say
Cece Jar my total times saying that is currently 34,567
Edit 2022: 46,788 times
LMD Productions mine is 2,467. I just started marching band
Cece Jar cool what do you play

Cece Jar mellophone
Currently crying bc there’s more people in that band than there is in my school
Gracie Arrera, oh wow, that must be hard🙁
Me too💀💀💀
wow sis. how many people are in your school?
haha we have 8 people in our marching band
Theres only like 98 people in marching band at my school
We might look like a bunch of sweaty dorks, but gosh we are so much more and this video showcases that. We are a family. Sometimes tighter knit than a normal family. Damn straight! I couldn't have said it better myself!

it's more akin to a cult than a family
Straight facts I litterly just got home from a show and we have another one tomorrow
Band is just amazing
“Band is pointless”
“Band requires no talent”
“Why are you even in band”
“Band kids are stupid”

No.

Samantha E lmao all of my friends in a nutshell until I showed them us practicing our show and they were blown away

Deeeeeeeeeeep I'm in band
Kronk I actually started crying from that. Thank you!! I honestly love band and all that was true ♥️♥️♥️
Kronk I agree so much
You always say you want to quit, but you come back. There is a connection with the people and the music. There is something special about band
All these middle school kids say they can’t wait. Marching band is great, but half the time you are just wanting to sleep or drink water. Especially when practicing. But hey, you get a new family.
Natalie Finley I’m in the 8th grade and I’m already in high school marching band🙄
Spoken like a true genius. The 10am to 9pm band camp days are horrible on hot and humid days.
PREACH
@@mr.foxtrot1381 I have a 7 to 5 band camp...

my friens whos in 9th grade has to go through that
After watching this it made me realize how lucky I was to be in the high school marching band while i'm in eighth grade
Same so many new family
Me tooo

Mango you really should join marching band. If you’re worried about not having friends don’t worry! You make friends really quickly!
Nolen Willey my school dose that to

Same. I am so glad i didnt switch out of it. Im the only one of my friends who admits it, but i love band.
Ahhhhh this was so beautiful. I can't wait until eighth grade is over . This makes me want to march
Marching was the greatest high school experience i could've asked for! it's a lot of hard work but it's so worth it!
Yep
I marched as a 7 grader and I had a field spot
Yaassss I can't wait for next marching season lmao like school can just end already , honestly band is one of the most emotional journeys in my entire life, my band worked so hard and we won ACCs!!!
I've got 9 more weeks to go until I can actually play with a good band.

This needs more views.
Thank you!! 😭😭😭
It's views will double soon :)
Watching this made me realize why I stayed in band, it makes you work really hard and see what you get at the end of your last show for the season
I’m in middle school and I’m not in marching band I’m just in jazz band but I can say band helps shape lives it helps build friendships and the band is just a big family ❤️
This is a beautiful video. The production is amazing and so aesthetically pleasing (from a band kid's side of view).
thank you! it was really fun to interview all of my friends and put this all together.
When you have friends from other school because of band
Ready for 100k views?? :D

There is 120 in the 2nd hour practice alone
Our band is so big I don’t know everyone 😂
Band has saved my life
Band is love band is life
Marching band, is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. If your considering joining it, do it.
This is a truly inspiring video! Band has been such an experience and I'm honored to call myself a band kid!
Trust me, the practice will be rough, the days will be long, but there is no family like the band family, and no experience like the marching band experience.
band is truly the only thing getting me through high school
Periodt.
The delirium you get at a certain point at competitions and the crackhead energy at football games
My 4 years in high school marching band back in the late 80's were the best years of my life lots of hard work but always worth it in the end miss those times.
marching band helped me find my second family. it created new ties and more smiles than I ever could have hoped for. future high schoolers, if you’re into music this is the place for you. we all wanna be your friend! ;)
this comment is so wholesome :')
I love marching band
when the football kids are playing on the marching band field *wOt*
My marching band is the greatest thing I’ve ever done, and I appreciate everyone so much. I never have time to do anything, but I’m always surrounded by people who love and appreciate me.
I’m commenting this before I watch the video and I already feel emotional
Standing out in some random college parking lot and eating dinner with my friends always gave me red dead redemption 2 vibes
This is the Bentonville Pride from Bentonville, Arkansas.
You never knew this Leah, but I did band. I was percussion: base drum! That thing was UNCOMFORTABLE! This video is almost at 10k! Next, 50k! CONGRATS ahead of time, Leah!
I’m joining marching band :D can’t wait for band camp this summer.
ii_chihuahua no dairy in the morning. I learned that one the hard way but eat in the morning
I am a three year vet mellophone. Trust me, the practice will be rough, the days will be long, but there is no family like the band family, and no experience like the marching band experience.
You won’t be saying that after band camp, but it will all be worth it for that feeling you get after a great performance
Jacob Labovitz you are so right. Band camp is just around the corner now.
Ryan Benson yep
Where is the gosh dang percussion squad at???
I really miss marching I can’t wait until the season starts back
Love this video 😊
This is awesome! I’m in 7th grade, and I play the clarinet in honors band and I can’t wait (my dad is a band director :)
Julia Wong who are you marching with? We might cross paths this summer!
I’m marching my second year with SCV! We probably won’t see each other but that’s alright!
I really wanna march so good luck to both of you guys this season. I’m actually only 14 and starting music at 10. I want to try next season for jersey surf however my goal is cavaliers ( as the runs through the family .) Any tips?
Me too dude! My school didn't have a marching band, so my first time marching ever was Legends this summer. I freakin loved it.
AWESOME!
Band is life!❤ so why are we called underrated, nerds/weirdos, boring and being underestimated, and never thought of??
it might give me back pain, but its a lot of fun
I love band!! All my good friends are from band. I showed up at school at 5:00 A.M. just for band. I will do anything it takes to stay with my band family. ♥️💫
This just hits all the right points and really made me appreciate band more than I have.
band was really hard for me, i got in band at 7th grade, so i really suffered in those years, yet, i still keep going not stopping
This is so true, like all people in highschool think band people are crazy and wild and disrespectful and all that but this video is just so amazing I already miss marching season so much band is my life and the people are my family 100%
I miss it and it's not even over yet
but they low key are actually wild
I’m a freshman and I love band, I hated the first week of band camp, but that’s cuz I didn’t really know anyone and because it was my first week of band camp, but now marching season is almost over and I’m sad ):
I'm joining marching band next year wish me luck
In middle school 8th grade band right now I hope I get into high school band
Band is giving me life long friends❤
I was sitting in school and then I was talking about band with a friend. Then, someone in ASB came up to us and said ASB is sooo much better because you get to plan stuff and have your phone out. Im like, ?????? Why does that matter in band you get to actually achieve something and be confident in yourself when being in ASB is not a talent its just planing things for the school.
High school varsity band will be the best 3-4 years of your life, hands down
This video made me cry our season just ended and all my friends and the guy I love is a senior I’m a whole mess
Band camp is the best I gave sooo many piggy back rides
spookyjimclique ok but your profile pic
My first day of marching band camp, i was not exited. I didn't know what i was getting myself into. But now, i'm hyped for next year. I honestly cant wait :D
Band is the definition of organized chaos
Now I’m crying because I wanna do marching band but my school doesn’t have it so I’m stuck in concert band.
Its 9 to 9 practices band is rough on the body especially if you decide to do drum corps. Its even worse. Marching band was great and it led for me to pursue dci. BAND FOR THE WIN. 😊
im so excited for marching band :D I'm super lucky I get to even help out with the auxiliary in seventh grade uwu
Going to band camp! Going to seventh grade... Not in marching band. YET!
In my (of like 21,000) we start marching in 7th grade in A parade and 3 marching practices. 8th grade we do 2 parades, one in winter and one near the end of the school year. In high school, you do so much marching, it’s unbelievable
I know I have seen that show cause I recognize the props (passed down from broken arrow)
Amelia Burch There you go! I hope your show turns out great! I’m sure it will. Here’s our show from last year: ua-cam.com/video/l3eyM3tnUK8/v-deo.html
BD: does a cartwheel
Band kids: lose their shit
Test of the school: what the hell is wrong with them
so i auditioned not too long ago, but i made it. 🥺 im so excited, band camp will be this next summer. ahh-
This is so beautifully made and edited. I love it.
Thank you so much!!
One time before a competition our band director told us to put on our uniforms then get on the bus
Literally no one put on their uniform before getting there and we just brought them, so we all got our jacket and hat and everything on, on the bus so needless to say it was so crowded and chaotic
I wouldn't trade it in for a second
Also close to the end of the season at a football game I grabbed the wrong hat and had to go the rest of the season with my hat too big
At a football game once we were literally barely in the bleachers and somehow the football team already had a touchdown so we had to scramble to play the fight song
One time it was so cold and all pretty much everyone had was a sweatshirt and maby gloves so I think just about everyone went inside multiple times on a "bathroom break" to warm up a bit
I wouldn't trade these for anything in the world
Everyone during marching band: *let me sleep I wanna go home*
After marching band: that was so fun, when’s the next season start?
Tuesday needs to hurry 😂 first day of highschool band camp and I'm going to low-key cry while hugging my clarinet
