[Stat] BabaYaga Awww. Well don’t worry once a band kid always a band kid. You will always be welcome to come play with your school or help them with games.
Our director custom makes everything we do >O< and we won our first competition recently because of it :D Im so proud of him and our band, even if its small and extremely depressed at times
@@mkscorp9152 Our schedule is Practice on Mondays and Thursdays, then games on Fridays. We just learned a new show too. It's kinda complicated. Especially when your section leader won't leave you alone.....
Frank Wells Yes but after companions and everything we are all still band kids and with all be here for each other no matter what. You could be from a rival school but at the end of the day when it comes to protecting other band kids non of that matters
👌 I’m a senior this year and I finally have a chance at a primary spot( rotation rn). (Edit) I made the spot and we had the prelims of our first competition today in Conroe, TX!!
i’m in colorguard but play trumpet in concert band. My first marching band year was last year, 8th grade. Technically I wasn’t allowed to be in the show, but I was capable enough to do just that. RING was the title of our show last year, i’ll never forget what it was like, seeing that if I work hard I’ll do great things, making friends I trusted, and enjoying life, because for years I struggled with being happy. But I found my happy place. the field. Last competition was windy and rainy, so of course I dropped, but at the end, that final toss, the final note, the last time i’ll wear that uniform, that was it. 3 months ago, I lost my Mom. She was my best friend and my biggest supporter. When she was in the hospital, one of the last things she told me was “try out for rifle line, try anything you want to, sweetie” so I did. I’ve never been rifle, but I worked hours to make her happy. Usually freshman don’t make rifle line, but I did. I work hard for not only me and others, but her. My biggest supporter, my best friend, a beautiful angel. I hope she knows how much I miss her and sees the work i’m putting toward something I love. I will never forget, she would watch me practice, record me and post it on facebook. At games, winterguard shows, and colorguard competitions, I would hear a shout of “that’s my baby!” and i’d look in the stands, a wide grin on her face. A big hug afterwards, “you did amazing” she’d tell me. Thank you, Mom. I did it.
im in the same place. i lost my mom three years ago. and marching band has been the only thing that has been constant in my life. the only place ive ever felt happy. the only place i have real friends and the one place i will never ever forget. there are times at rehearsal where i wish i didn’t have to be there, but at the end of the rehearsal, i don’t want to go home. playing the last competition the last day youll be on the field, the last note you play, the last count, the last breath, it is so unforgettable.
God, this made me tear up. I lost my mom five years ago and it’s grueling losing your biggest supporter, but having that confidence with how hard you’ve worked and knowing she’d be proud of you makes waking up on the days without her so worth it. It’s my first year in band as a sophomore and it’s hard to do any of this without someone I know would support me endlessly, but the people and the pride that comes with band make it all worthwhile. I wish you every bit of luck, patience and happiness in the world and I hope you find comfort and joy in everything you always do. Losing someone you love more than the world is infinitely painful, but you can always make it through.
I auditioned for battery at the end of 8th grade, and was accepted into the bass drum section, but I was going through health issues it the time, and I couldn't be a part of battery. So I decided to switch to pit rather that quit. At the end of the first semester in my freshman year, my school started our very first wgi drumline, and my health problems had subsided, and I re auditioned for bass drum, and had been on bass drum until the day I left. My first semester sophomore year, my first time in battery for marching season, our show music was more complicated than the previous year, and we dropped from 5 bass drummers to 3. I was covering 3 different bass parts on one bass drum. The night before the first football game of the season, my grandma was killed by a drunk driver, and it spawned a period of hell for my family. My little brother had started middle school, and took the loss very hard, and he hasn't been the same since. The loss of my grandma mentally destroyed my grandpa, and he declined in all aspects of his health until the day he died. And at the same time, the King Fire was burning through Northern California (where my high school is), and it triggered a massive asthma attack for my mom, and landed her in the hospital, while my dad was 3 hours away planning a funeral. I went to that football game, with the weight of the world on my shoulders, knowing that my mom was in the hospital, that my grandma was killed, that my brother was grieving very hard, and I put on my bass drum, and performed with the band throughout the game. During the first half of the game, little things were irritating the crap out of me, like my section leader/drum captain being more interested in talking to his girlfriend than keep track of what the drumline was doing or not doing, and people walking through the band section that weren't members of band. At one point, I yelled at some of my fellow drumline members for not being attentive, and playing when they weren't supposed to, and that was when my drum captain interrupted talking to his girlfriend to yell at me, saying I had no authority to tell anyone what to do, as he was drum captain and I wasn't. Then came halftime, and right when our drum major counted us in, one of the hooks on my harness came loose, which caused my drum to jolt, throwing me off guard, and managed to push me from irritated to actually angry. However, I channeled that anger into my performance, and I experienced this overwhelming feeling of "f**k everyone, I'm going to play this show, and if people don't like it, they can screw themselves" and it was one of the best performances I ever did with drumline. I've never experienced feelings of stage fright ever again after that, and I survived the rest of that night with relative ease. Our family tragedy, however, still pertained, and after the game, I went right back to stress, sadness, and anger. And that pretty much continued for the rest of the season. It was one of my lowest points mentally, but I managed to channel all of my frustration into my playing and marching, and it turned out to be the marching season I'm most proud of. I know I'm two years late, but I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm glad color guard served as an outlet for you during that time. Because for me, if I didn't have drumline during that part of my life, my head would have probably exploded.
Only band kids understand. Nobody know the pain marching band is. It’s painful. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It’s there that I made my greatest friends. And enemies. It’s there I found teachers I loved and teachers I hated. It’s where I learned to feel feeling for others. Especially a tenor saxophone that gave me hope. I’m surprised he was so kind to a Euphonium like me. Never give up band. It’s like giving up a family. Nothing can replace it. And no sport will ever be like it. Band stays with you. It will not abandon you. Band is forever.❤️❤️❤️
I started band in 6th grade, did 4 years of marching band in high school and am about to enter my final year of college band. I would not be anywhere near the person I am without those experiences and wouldn't trade them for the world. To those of you in high school, enjoy every minute.
My grandson just started high school marching band. This is his 5th year in band but I had no idea what it takes to be in marching band. It’s definitely a passion and a calling. It’s not for whimps! It takes determination, perseverance, strength, and I could go on and on. I am so very proud of him. And I have a new found and well deserved respect for those in marching band and for the directors. To those of you who have taken on this calling, you should all be proud because it’s certainly an accomplishment!
I cried. This made me realize how much people outside of band misjudge us. The sports kids make band kids feel like trash in my school, but the best part is that other band kids step in to help. Most kids in my band are having really hard times and the band gives them the love and family they need.
It's true I'm in band and we all care for each other , a friend of mine who is in Trumpet section fell at the stares and me and also another trumpet player helped him up while a random kid was laughing we told the kid to knock it off
No that wasn't the case for us the kid (a random 7th grader) was just laughing at us just because he feel my other friend who helped him out too was the one who told the kid to knock it off
let me just say that i am so sorry to all the people that practice their show music in a parking lot. my band has been blessed to have 2 fields to practice on. im also sorry to any band member that has been disrespected by someone that doesn't know the pain that goes along with band. you're all amazing. i wish you all the best season ever! xoxo
Parking lots can be better, especially when you can mark where your dots are, unlike on a real field. They can also suck, like a 102° texas band camp day. August is torture.
I agree, no one understands how hard this is, I've had people ask me how much my drum weighs, when I tell them, their response always is"how can you carry that thing", I'd like to respond with, "it's harder than it looks, easier than you think" You just get used to the constant teasing and people saying it's easy, carrying a 50 pound instrument marching a memorized show with memorized music is WAY harder than it looks, everyone who has stuck through marching band will agree, it's worth every second of pain, sweat, blood or tears, because of the people in it, some of my best friends I've ever had, I met in marching band, for some people this may be hard to understand but, that's what it means to me
This hurts my heart like nothing ever will 😔 I won’t ever understand how people can disregard marching band, my heart will always belong on the field.❤️
@Galactic sometimes I'm almost throwing up after an hour of practice. And "most of their weight is still fat" most of my friends have a six pack because of marching band and if they don't they're still really in shape. I don't know what kind of school you go to but if you're really giving it everything and working hard you shouldn't be completely fine after an 8 hour practice.
@Galactic did you not read the definition the guy provided... Marching band is a sport just not a difficult one... Just like you wouldnt say tennis isnt a sport just because it isnt physically exuhausting.
Joining marching band was the best decision I’ve ever made and watching this made me realize how hard it really was but was so worth it. I haven’t played my show in almost 3 months but I still sing it all the time and could probably march the whole 8 minutes right now from memory.
I don't regret it either, it was the greatest decision I ever made in high school and was my escape, helped me through my depression. Each and every band kid that walked through them door from the very first year and forever on always remains one big family. I miss it so much
XD this isn't a cancer donation video I went there this summer and I met a whole lot of people there and I also saw some of my friends and I'm happy I did that cuz I'm in intermediate band I still do concert band but I played off band camp and I'm in marching band
Oh hell yeah, no wonder why a lot of Texas schools like Reagan, Johnson, Round Rock, and more do really well, because they’re used to rehearsing in that heat. The worst part is that the heat goes on even after marching season ends 🙃 but we all suffer together as a band family and I love it
Mira yes I know how that is. It’s my last year as a member of the marching band at my high school. I will continue another two years at the local community college. Those summers of rehearsal can be gruesome but rewarding.
Currently a sophomore in H.S., and doing my second year of marching band. Last year I wanted nothing to do with marching band, I despised it. Marching band was mandatory for freshmen, though. Up until that point all I knew was parades. And then I reached our final competition at the University of Illinois. The giant stadium, huge crowd... it all made me so happy. So I decided to stay in marching band. We’ve currently learned movement 1 of our show this year, Hymns to the Earth, and it’s so fun. We have themed days at band camp, and us trumpets have many traditions and games. I plan to try out for section leader next year and my best friend is going to try for drum major. Not only was I shoved into an amazing band, I was shoved into an amazing family. I was given the opportunity to leave, and I didn’t.
@Lyla Laycre I'm the flute section leader in my school. I care that we all know how to do our part. If one of us doesn't know how to, we all stop and try to help. Other sections are not like us tho. They are solo and the other section leaders dont really do much for their section. So I can relate
Pug With a pen for the love of god and everything good TAKE PAIN KILLER BEFORE YOU GET IT IN. They don’t hurt when you get them at first but a few hours later and you can’t eat nothing but applesauce
when it's thundering and you keep marching, and then you're doing a run through and a big bolt of lightning strikes about 3 miles away and everyone runs inside!! 👍👍👍
OMG I played synth last year (i moved to marimba this year it was lit) and there was a bass guitar and we shared the amp, right? So we were at a comp and it was raining so much and then the amp started making weird noises like 20 measures into our show so I had to turn it off of course but it was absolutely terrifying lmao
I was in band all throughout middle school and high school. My college is just now starting to piece together a band but we are just a little pep band. Everyone I went to high school with wonders why I am still so involved with the high school band even though it is a whole new generation. I had a pretty crappy home life, and band was literally my entire life. I dealt with a pretty bad drug problem as well, and band was kind of a way that helped me ween off my drug use. When I felt like I was good for nothing, band showed me that I am a hard worker, and proved that with hard work comes success. Performing and hearing a crowed cheer, cow bells ring, and air horns blow as I was walking onto a field made me feel so proud of myself. Performing gave me a high that I always craved but could only experience once or twice a week. My last competition, I bawled like a baby, and we knew that our last football game was going to be the semifinals. I was crying as I was performing because I knew that every step I took, was my last, and I broke down on my very last step because I knew it was over.
this one time at band camp I was walking through the band hall door with the band to put up for the day and this tuba just leaned in real close next to my ear and whispered, "Fist me daddy!"
what can I say, it's real, it happened, and it's not the worst thing to have happened at band camp. Like that one time with the birthday pickle balloon.
I am a senior and about to have my last band camp. Its bittersweet. Band has had such an amazing impact on my life. I wouldn't be who I am without it. Also, I'm grateful that our band has never had to practice in a parking lot😊
Be happy you haven't lmao. My first year we used the parking lot, but we use the newly constructed football field/soccer fields now. It's fun on every surface tho :p
At my school we always practice on a parking lot with a bunch of dots everywhere in addition to the hard lines and hash marks, so we can coordinate better. Then we start moving that to the stadium so we can practice without all the dots and be in a real stadium. Last year I played Marimba of Front Ensemble, so I never had to worry about marching and just had to play my music. This year, I became a Snare Drum so I have to constantly have a 30-pound Drum on my person, actually be able to march, and have to always be in time, be in sync with the lead snare drum (who is usually to my right, sometimes left), and help the rest of my drumline keep the band in time. Being in drumline is much harder than Front Ensemble, but it’s much more rewarding. I hate marching band sometimes, but I will miss it when it’s gone.
I don’t even know why band kids are being bullied and teased everywhere, at my school people don’t bully them, most if not all band kids in my school are such nice social butterflies
I’m glad that is how your band is like. Mine isn’t. I was the only one who was left out of conversations, or not invited to their houses. Ignored, verbally bullied, overall hated. I wish I had an experience where I actually felt like part of the team.
This video was funny at the beginning, but then it got really emotional. About halfway through I got really emotional. I'm balling right now. All of my memories of my last two years of marching band are now flooding back to me. It's hard to explain how I'm feeling. I just know that marching band has changed my life forever, and I am so thankful I am able to be apart of it. This video really shows you how amazing marching band really is. I will never forget my first performance at my first football game. I won't ever forget the feeling I got the first time I watched both of the shows put together, forming something amazing. I will never ever, forget the feeling I got when they announced that my band would be going to state for the first time in school history. Marching band is an emotional roller coaster. You will hate it, but at the same time you love every second of it. Even though you complain about it during the season, you miss it when it's over. My marching season just ended, and I'm sad. But I still have two years left, and I can't wait to see what crazy adventures those years hold.
Best marching band video I’ve ever seen. And did you mention the musical talent it takes to read the music play on pitch march backward and hit your mark in every show and stay on the correct score, the correct measure and hit the final pitch in the final cord and not one announcer in the press box ever says one fricking word about even how nice your uniforms look. You still go on. Marching band is the backbone of the school. It’s the total truth.
Marching band is made up of talent, work, and a whole lot of school spirit and determination, and without it, our high school just wouldn’t be the same. Fans may not realize it, but without us, football games would lack the energy and pride granted by the band.
“Let’s run that segment one more time and we’ll get water” *literally an hour later* “Gotta run it again for the tubas who don’t know what they’re doing”
Home Video Studio Florence it’s the William Mason High School I have friends who go there, they are an outstanding band and they are by far the best high school marching band in the state of Ohio
“Rehearsing the same thing again and again.” Conductor: Okay, Sarah, you were a bit off on that last note at measure 97 on the flute! Okay everyone, ONE MORE TIME! Everybody outside sweating like a dog already: *immense sounds of pain*
@@faith9196 ooh god reminds me of one time I was just minding my business in volleyball and all we hear from outside is someone screaming- Yeah ummmm they dropped a flyer and she broke her back
No one except band members and the directors really understands how hard it is. But even though its hard, even though we sometimes feel like quitting, we keep going on, because we become a family. And after all hardships, finally when we perform in front of the world, we enjoy it from our heart. No matter what band, what institution, what country, we all work hard. No band is perfect from the very beginning, we practice every single day until our body automatically moves along the music we play. As a member of a highschool band, (kyoto tachibana) I appreciate all your hard work. Band forever
Linda if you have never been in band or plan to be in a band you have NO RIGHT to say how negative the program is. It is a fun experience and keeps us in shape and when you can’t rely on your real family they are there to back you up in almost any situation
Wow. I’m in tears. I was color guard through high school and had the honor of being Captain my senior year. I loved it. From that first summer band camp day to the last performance, I loved it. No lie, it was hellish some days, but I miss it. It’s been 30+ years since I picked up a flag, but I would twirl today if I could. I showed this to my son who will start band camp for the first time soon. I hope he will get the same enjoyment I did. Thank you for the video.
I’m a current college freshman. I marched through all of high school. I thought I loved band as much as I possibly could until I hit college. I’m now a proud member of a B1G marching band and have 320 best friends. I don’t think I have ever loved anything more than I love the band I’m currently in. My band is supported by the entire state (we are called the Pride of Minnesota for a reason) and it is amazing to feel appreciated for once. My high school band wasn’t appreciated nearly as much as it should have been and being in college band has really shown me that. There is really nothing like it. As soon as someone finds out I’m in UMMB they immediately go “oh my gosh that is SO COOL! I have so much respect for you! I could never do something like that! ” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “the band is the best part of this school.” Or “I only go to the football games for the band.” Or even “you guys work more than the football players and it shows.” There are SO many people who support bands out there, and although your band may not have the support it deserves, know that there are people who support you who have never even met you or heard of your band. I’ve never felt this kind of love and support for something I’m involved in before and it blows my mind. High school band was one thing but college is a whole other thing. It’s AMAZING!
I’m a freshman in Marching band and I swear it’s a love hate relationship, like some days I’m hyped for practice and others I want to just stay home and sleep, my feet hurt, my back HURTS and under those thick uniforms it is hot. But at the same time there is a rush to it I love my section and my director. We have an amazing football team and we are very lucky with everything we have. Marching band is amazing but people don’t see the hours upon hours upon hours of work we put into band and how big of a part of our lives it is. You form amazing bonds and meet a ton of new people. It is such a huge part of my life, I’m not sure what I’d do without it.
Same, I’m a freshman and I play clarinet. The motivation, the long hours of band camp, practice, marching and many more is tiring, but some how we managers come back to it. I have a really supportive boyfriend and he plays trombone. Band is just like home to me. It’s so special. And I’m really nervous because I have my first show Saturday, it’s a competition. I am so nervous. But the band at my school, is so underrated and non band kids are like “shut up band kid!” Or “band isn’t a sport, your weird because your in band” But people don’t know is that it’s much MUCH more than that. I am proud to say, that I’m officially a band kid.
During the process you hate it. There are times where you would want to give up and quit. There are the older people that tell you it's worth it so you stick through it. That first full run and your first show is the best part of it. It becomes something more but you don't really know what that is until you come back. That's my experience with Marching Band and our relationship is complicated. As a junior it's very rewarding during the last show. Oof
Lmao our band did this thing where they brought the freshmen into the auditorium stage as everyone who weren’t freshmen dressed in cult apparel and we played scary music and banged drums. After we took off our hoods (we looked like the kkk) and we told the freshmen that they were a part of the band now and we all got assigned a sister and brother
This video was beautifully done. It reminds me of my time in Band and the how real the struggle was and at times still is. I am 47 and my band director from HS passed a few years ago. However, he is the one that taught me to never give up, whatever you have to go through. I have read through the comments and see how many got emotional and cried with this video. I am glad to say that you all aren't the only ones.
i'm going into band this year on quads and i can't wait to experience marching band for the first time. super excited but i know i'll never want it to end
Never said it wasn't rewarding and fulfilling. In band, as in life, things are hard. But that's the same regardless of what you are working for or toward. I enjoyed my time in band.
@Pixle Painter I feel you on that one person yelled at me because I'm in colorgaurd and concert band and he thought it was stupid were counted as the band. Like we do just as hard work.
This needs to go everywhere. People thinks its easy and its not. I'm only a freshman and i know that in four years, I will miss all of this.... ...WHY DID YOU Have TO PUT EMOTIONAL MUSIC ON THIS
i sent this to my senior band friend because we have finals this weekend and we just collectively started bawling our eyes out thinking about how it's his last season. those really extremely hot camp days and recent freezing cold end-of-season practices were all worth it in the long shot and I'd never trade these memories and experiences for anything else
I just got back from a long and tiring practice and this is what makes me continue on and work harder. This made me tear up because next year is my last year and one day I’m gonna hear my last “one more time”.
I have seriously been so sore and worn out while practicing our marching drill that my legs gave out, and I fell. I had NEVER fallen before until that time. It's also pretty hard to fall in a military-style marching band, but I learned the hard way that it's possible!
I remember my director would give us a speech before every marching band performance. For competitions, he would tell us “the judges are here to see YOU. The audience is here to see YOU.” This always pumped me up and boosted my confidence
Oh my god why am i so fucking emotional the first 2 mins made me teary. I'm only in middle school and i feel the pain of leaving marching band senior year...
I'm totally not crying, what? but yeah no, basically sums up everything about my school's band and even though Freshman year I wanted nothing to do with marching band, here I am junior year, 3 years strong. It really is a family and staying in band was the best decision I ever made
Bruh freaking football teams should come and watch band at competitions, like we practice in sun for 8hrs so we could sound good and make the football team look good. It’s the least that the football teams could do for band.
this hits so close to home on band. facts all of it. there's a family in band that you don't really find in people usually. everyone bonds so well and it's so different then what you may be used to but it's amazing. having 50, 100, 150, 200, 300 however many people around and everyone cares about everybody. it's so warming to know that that is how it works in band. it's a bonding thing but you become family and it's humbling.
Guilty. honestly idk why I watched this video but I have more respect for y’all now. What you do is actually kinda cool AND it takes hard work. Good job.
PurpleOreo 2007 i did some research and marching band is technically a sport if you search deep enough. It’s a sport due to the exercise, the competitions, and I found out that it is a sport because of the synchronization in it.
What I love about competitive marching band is that even though the bands or your band didn't win, we all still clap for each other and don't get mad because we lost, we get super happy just for being able to get to experience it and get out of school, meet new people, impress people, and prove that marching band or any kind if band in particular is a lot harder than your average sport
i just watched this on my way home from 8 hours of band camp and broke down crying because i realized that despite how much it physically hurts hurts, the adrenaline that we feel marching onto the felid for a competition, is irreplaceable and one of the most incredible feelings on the planet knowing that all he hard work you put in, is about to payoff.
I have never seen a more accurate video about marching band. It’s amazing how at the beginning of the season it’s horrible and you ask why you don’t back and you don’t want to take it back one more time. But by the end it’s over and you want it all back, running it all back one very last time giving it more than you have ever gave it.
Marching band was hard for me at first I wanted to quit. I didn't feel like I could do it. Then I made friends I practiced more and now I'm applying to Texas A&M to be in the fighting Texas Aggie band Couldn't be there without my band love you Bulldog Band!!
my band went from around 100 people to 20 people when our favorite band director had to leave :/ that was like 4 years ago and we’re still in the process of rebuilding the program. this year is the first year we’re going to contest since he left :) our band director this year actually went to our school so i think he’ll stick around. we’ve got around 40 people in band this year and i hope it only gets bigger in the future.
Made me tear up a bit. I will always remember my first year in Marching Band and I will never forget it. All the special moments I had with the people, during the shows, and competitions. It truly is a great experience. I will also miss the seniors from my first year so much!!
I loved marching band! I'm 20 years out of high school, but I always remember my 4 years of band with great memories. You had 100 plus family members that you worked countless hours with, to put together a 12 minute show. I'll never forget those memories. Thank you for this video!
Thank you for your kind comments. No, I did not mention those things, but I am glad you recognize how difficult all those things in synchronization is to accomplish for any band.
I'm a senior this year, and I'm never going to have a last time on the feild because if carona, and I honestly started crying because of how hard this last year is going to be. I'm not going to march, no walking across the feild with my family, no prom, no graduation, no competitions, nothing that I truly was looking foward to.
This really yanked some memories! It's good to see people having these same experiences so many years after I was in the band. Looking back, the vast majority of my HS memories involved the band and so many friends in it, the stupid dorky fun we had, but overall a group of pretty smart, witty, and disciplined people. That was 40 years ago.
Mayorb Totally can connect with all aspects of marching depicted here. Was in band most of middle and high school. Marching in all weather, with southern heat during camp. But some of my best times was in band.
My band, Butler Traditional Marching Band (Louisville, Kentucky) had the honor of competing against Dixie Heights several times. It is eye-opening to see that no matter where you come from, us "nerdy band kids" are all a family.
Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, we (Dixie Heights) have been to Butler Traditional, and have competed with you several times over the years. You may compete against each other, but you ALL have the same experiences and love for what you do. Keep doing good for your art!
Thank you :,) you dont know how much we appreciate your comment. Marching band is tough as all other things. We sometimes dont get the same respect as other sports and yes I think marching band is a sport. We may play halftime shows and we may not get the crowd cheering but when looking at the footage we look at the bad and good things and when we make it perfect it makes us feel good. Thank you
@@alianajimenez9561 Sometimes we work hard but when we are all really really tired the band kinda falls apart but in the end we work really hard and that's a fact.
🥹🥹🥹 Thank you so much, you have no idea how much that means to me, for band to finally get some respect, they don’t know that our days are a living nightmare, but I never quit, because it’s my duty, I have seen many people succumb to overheating (it’s even worse for me because I live in the South), so that warms my heart
To all my fellow freshies, and all new freshies; the first 3 days will hurt. It will be hard, and it will be hot. Months of practice go into a 10 minute show. It is worth it. We haven't even started practicing our show, and I already know I love matching band. We are a family, we're there for each other. We poke fun at the other sections, we say things like "being brass is harder because instrument heat go brr" But we know it's hard for everyone. But it's so damn rewarding getting it right, after so much work, so much blood, swear, and tears. It's worth it. Freshman, and new kids, stick with marching band.
After watching marching band videos, it makes me so sad cause it reminds me of when I was in marching band. Plus this year is my last year in marching band
Cameron Applegate Yeah, this is my senior year and 4th and final year in marching band. I'm going to look back on all of the great friends I made and all of the great memories. I'm definitely doing college marching band.
I'm starting marching band this summer and I couldn't be more excited. My classmates and I got our music today and many of us have already started practicing. I've always wanted to do marching band and now I finally have the chance. I know that even though I might want to give up, there'd be nothing else I would rather do. This video just helped me feel even better about going into high school and I can't wait! Edit: one year later, I'm now a sophomore in marching band. I cannot imagine how I could have gotten through my first year of high school without it. Within a week, I had already found a family that was here for me no matter what. It kept my mind off of all of the bad things in my life, and kept me excited for the future. I wouldn't go back and change the past by not joining marching band for the world.
Bookworm Karley I've been in marching band for a few years and yes there may have been some times that were hard but you push through and it is the best feeling in the world when you finish that show and everyone is cheering for you. So keep at it, stay with your new family and remember to have fun even after all of the long, tiring practices.
you really summed it up perfectly. band gave me a home where I didn't have to be anyone else, I finally just got to be me and that was enough. I truly am so grateful for marching band and making me into the best version of myself that I could be. Thank you for getting it. All the love from the LPHS Marching band!
I was in band and I didn’t have 100 brothers and sisters that would stick with me. They all hated me. I was alone. No friends. No one to talk to. No one to turn to when it mattered most. Not even my section leaders. They all treated me like dirt, like I wasn’t there, like I was nothing. In their eyes I am nothing. But there was nothing I could do to change that. I have autism, I don’t understand people’s emotions. The rest of the band didn’t give a crap, they just bullied me or ignored me. They’d argue about stupid crap with me. I’m also visually impaired and can’t see their body language very well, they’d argue with me about using a music stand even though I can’t see the music anyway because were in bright light. I would like to say that I felt like a part of the team, like I had a place, that I belonged, that I had a home, but I can’t. I can’t because I had none of those things, the directors talked to the band about it, but it changed nothing. If you’re in band and there’s a member that’s different than you and the rest of the band please include them, talk to them, make them feel like they can rely on the others. Show them that you care, that you support them, that you believe in them. Show them they have a place, a family, friends, and don’t feel alone. Don’t let them feel like I do, include them. No one deserves to be ignored, or not have friends. Everyone deserves those simple things, give them to the person in your band who doesn’t have that. Who knows, you might make a new lifetime friend.
@Madison Kupsky i'm so sorry for that. I'm an upcoming senior and i have special needs myself. And some people in the band treated me like i was family and some treated me differently because of that or at the time i was in my darkest days. But i just want to tell you that you are loved and jesus loves you! God bless you!
Madison, I was exactly the same way in my high school band. I have autism as well, and my four years of h.s. band were hell. The band director couldn’t stand me, the rest of the flute section-with no thanks to the section leaders at the time-hated me…the reason I managed to get all four years under my belt was because I wasn’t about to let those imbeciles get the best of me.
This video sums it up so nicely! I am 50 years old now (unbelievable!) and have done lots of great things in my life, but this time of year (mid-August) still makes me think of band camp and the upcoming fall competition season. The esprit-d'corps that I experienced in band was unlike anything else I've done. I've always missed all the hard work, practicing, re-setting,refining,long hours etc., etc.,etc., of striving together for a common goal. Besides all that, it was a ton of fun! I'm glad to see all you young folks enjoying what you are doing, and I hope your experience gives you lots of great memories too!
To be honest, marching band is the best thing that ever happened to me. (And that’s coming from someone who has marched with an instrument for two years and is currently in color guard)
I am a sophomore this year and I’ve put so much blood, and sweat and faith into my marching that it’s become second nature. I practice marching until all the sweat was drained from my body, I practice my instrument so much that my lip started to bust open and my teeth started to grind and in the end it’s all worth it because I know that someday, someday I will become a swell musician. I love marching band and the marching band feels like family to me.
We don't carry sticks or rackets, we carry instruments. We don't wear pads and gear, we carry our colors on a uniform that we wear proud and strong. We don't memorize plays, we memorize footsteps and directions. We don't know red one, we know hand signals and music. We don't know offense or defense, we know we are one as we March. We don't have teams, we have families. We do know that once we join marching band, those people will be there for you. They will stick by you no matter what happens. Band isn't sound and instruments and musicians, it's the people that are band. The people are what make each band unique and beautiful.
Fugal If someone said that to me I may have punched them the reason And this is 100% true Last week a bass stand fell on a tenor players foot, he could not march the show. One of our flute players had to go to the hospital (I still don’t know details) and then someone else could not breath.

Me in football and band: easy mode
I did it.
If this is fake fuck you cuz that's beautiful 😫❤️
im in the same place. i lost my mom three years ago. and marching band has been the only thing that has been constant in my life. the only place ive ever felt happy. the only place i have real friends and the one place i will never ever forget. there are times at rehearsal where i wish i didn’t have to be there, but at the end of the rehearsal, i don’t want to go home. playing the last competition the last day youll be on the field, the last note you play, the last count, the last breath, it is so unforgettable.
Losing someone you love more than the world is infinitely painful, but you can always make it through.
hizy DUDE IM BALLING MY EYES OUT
I auditioned for battery at the end of 8th grade, and was accepted into the bass drum section, but I was going through health issues it the time, and I couldn't be a part of battery.
I feel your pain being a only mellophone but my section is any section we are a small nationwide family of brass instruments
Yeah. I play tenor sax. There are three of us in the whole band, two base clarinets and one barry sax witch make up the low reed family
Bence Brown I’m the only Euphonium, but the only Tenor was always there with me
What about color guard?
But nothing is as painful as that last day when you take your uniform off for the last time.
I started band in 6th grade, did 4 years of marching band in high school and am about to enter my final year of college band. I would not be anywhere near the person I am without those experiences and wouldn't trade them for the world. To those of you in high school, enjoy every minute.
Shade Miller but marching band sucks!!! I hate that they require it to be in any other band

Shade Miller Thank you.
Shade Miller alright sensei
I feel like about to cry this video was amazing and I’ve been bullied for being in band
Anymal there’s no difference. band is a sport, it’s a team sport. we are all here for each other and we all work together. together forever
It's true I'm in band and we all care for each other , a friend of mine who is in Trumpet section fell at the stares and me and also another trumpet player helped him up while a random kid was laughing we told the kid to knock it off
That’s how it is at my school too, everyone hates the band kids
No that wasn't the case for us the kid (a random 7th grader) was just laughing at us just because he feel my other friend who helped him out too was the one who told the kid to knock it off
let me just say that i am so sorry to all the people that practice their show music in a parking lot. my band has been blessed to have 2 fields to practice on. im also sorry to any band member that has been disrespected by someone that doesn't know the pain that goes along with band. you're all amazing. i wish you all the best season ever! xoxo
@@Natearl13 I can agree but it’s also nice to march on a field
Is your parking lot asphalt or is it just us 🥺🤧
Parking lots can be better, especially when you can mark where your dots are, unlike on a real field. They can also suck, like a 102° texas band camp day. August is torture.
Texas band, dark parking lot. Coastal Texas (humidity) literally kill me
My school has a black top that's painted like a field for the band bc my director complained so much abt it having enough room on the parking lot

Finally somebody realizes how hard it is..like dang we never get credit for doing hard work like this other than from our band director
Tara Smith people think is sooooo easy. It's not at all, grueling days of hard work to make something great isn't easy.

Galactic looks don't define if it's a sport or not.
Mine will too... 😔💔
Galactic That still doesn't let you define it as a sport
Thank you for sharing your marching band experience. Yes, it’s difficult and so very worth it because of the difficulty.

Alli Carpenter ღ Did you make section leader?
@Lyla Laycre I'm the flute section leader in my school. I care that we all know how to do our part. If one of us doesn't know how to, we all stop and try to help. Other sections are not like us tho. They are solo and the other section leaders dont really do much for their section. So I can relate

Two years seems like a while, and then it becomes one day
Best marching band video I’ve ever seen.
Great video dude.
Wrong
Not talent, just practice and skill. And stamina, for band camp practice :D
Marching band is made up of talent, work, and a whole lot of school spirit and determination, and without it, our high school just wouldn’t be the same. Fans may not realize it, but without us, football games would lack the energy and pride granted by the band.

This really deserves so much more publicity. Incredibly made and beautifully executed.
Thank you for your kind comment. I truly appreciate it.
Why would kids be inspired to participate in such a negative program. The video is not inspiring. Think about it.
Linda think about it? We gone through this. We know how fun it can be and how good the experience is.

” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “the band is the best part of this school.” Or “I only go to the football games for the band.” Or even “you guys work more than the football players and it shows.”
There are SO many people who support bands out there, and although your band may not have the support it deserves, know that there are people who support you who have never even met you or heard of your band. I’ve never felt this kind of love and support for something I’m involved in before and it blows my mind. High school band was one thing but college is a whole other thing. It’s AMAZING!
That's what they say about us to and I love the support we get
“a stressful antidepressant” my colorguard captain explaining to me and the freshman what band is like.
Enjoy it while you can. Do it for us who would pay so much to relive those high school band days just one last time.
I join band next year for my first year of high school I’m so excited
Same I'm a freshman too I feel you
Same, I’m a freshman and I play clarinet.

Does Show Style band counts?
During the process you hate it. There are times where you would want to give up and quit. There are the older people that tell you it's worth it so you stick through it. That first full run and your first show is the best part of it. It becomes something more but you don't really know what that is until you come back. That's my experience with Marching Band and our relationship is complicated. As a junior it's very rewarding during the last show. Oof
I like how I almost quit this summer at band camp but I came back the next day 🖤
"The truth about marching band"
*_it's a cult_*
Now THAT is true

Participating in marching band should not be a struggle. It should be a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
Never said it wasn't rewarding and fulfilling. In band, as in life, things are hard. But that's the same regardless of what you are working for or toward. I enjoyed my time in band.

i sent this to my senior band friend because we have finals this weekend and we just collectively started bawling our eyes out thinking about how it's his last season. those really extremely hot camp days and recent freezing cold end-of-season practices were all worth it in the long shot and I'd never trade these memories and experiences for anything else
The physical discomfort you experienced should not have happened. Band practices should not hurt. It can make you tired, but not injured.

Bruh freaking football teams should come and watch band at competitions, like we practice in sun for 8hrs so we could sound good and make the football team look good. It’s the least that the football teams could do for band.
I saw a thing that said that football games are just band competitions featuring the sportsball teams and I live by that now
Dude there are football players *in* my schools show this year, it’s great!
this hits so close to home on band. facts all of it. there's a family in band that you don't really find in people usually. everyone bonds so well and it's so different then what you may be used to but it's amazing. having 50, 100, 150, 200, 300 however many people around and everyone cares about everybody. it's so warming to know that that is how it works in band. it's a bonding thing but you become family and it's humbling.
When someone tells a band kid “band is not a sport”
Guilty. honestly idk why I watched this video but I have more respect for y’all now. What you do is actually kinda cool AND it takes hard work. Good job.
It’s not...... but that doesn’t mean that what we do isn’t a physical activity.
The definition of a sport is anything that’s active and competitive though?
PurpleOreo 2007 i did some research and marching band is technically a sport if you search deep enough. It’s a sport due to the exercise, the competitions, and I found out that it is a sport because of the synchronization in it.
Life before I can Drive, I know it’s a sport that why it’s in parenthesis

Totally can connect with all aspects of marching depicted here.

To all my fellow freshies, and all new freshies; the first 3 days will hurt. It will be hard, and it will be hot. Months of practice go into a 10 minute show.
It is worth it. We haven't even started practicing our show, and I already know I love matching band. We are a family, we're there for each other.
We poke fun at the other sections, we say things like "being brass is harder because instrument heat go brr"
But we know it's hard for everyone. But it's so damn rewarding getting it right, after so much work, so much blood, swear, and tears.
It's worth it. Freshman, and new kids, stick with marching band.

-My band director
That's incredibly unfortunate

This video sums it up so nicely! I am 50 years old now (unbelievable!) and have done lots of great things in my life, but this time of year (mid-August) still makes me think of band camp and the upcoming fall competition season. The esprit-d'corps that I experienced in band was unlike anything else I've done. We don't have teams, we have families. We do know that once we join marching band, those people will be there for you. They will stick by you no matter what happens.
