  • The Prime Minister has spelled out her plans for Brexit - with a warning that she is ready to walk away from negotiations unless Brussels offers a good deal.
Theresa May promised that MPs would get a vote on that deal. But she also made clear that Brexit would mean leaving the single market for good.

There is a definite difference between the comments that are pro and anti leave. Pro leavers post comments which are mature and measured. Anti leavers post comments that look as if they have been written by a 13 year old with learning difficulties.

Theresa May should ban the Severn bridge toll fee. This will unite England and Wales.
At the moment it cost £6.70 to come over into Wales.
If that isn't a divide I don't know what is?
They make £50m a year from that bridge. I see being united meaning travelling within the UK should be free. FREEDOM and not tax.

    • @BigMac-et7ym

Aston Bright Without that bridge it used to cost about 80 quid to drive all the way around...I happily pay 6 quid for that engineering masterpiece.

They should have made it £200; it was the English voters in Wales who who gave them their leave vote. The natives there share the same sentiments as the Scots and Irish.

Why "nationalists" want to be a part of a United States of Europe is beyond me.
Scotland joined the UK with the act of a Scottish King, King James VI of The Scots.
There is a solution for the UK which is not extreme, but is radically different to what we have now, which will work well. What other country in Europe is made up of 4 different countries & has a very fair and libertarian society?

Or maybe it's time to stop fooling ourselves... It has been blatantly obvious to anyone with more than two brain cells that all this "EU REFERENDUM" fiasco has nothing to do with the interests or "protection of the British people" (just look at the tories - and "new labour's" - track record) and everything to do with the "ring fencing" and protection of what ALREADY IS the most deregulated, money laundering, TAX HAVEN cesspit in the world and the parasitic scumbags in the city of London.
Or does anyone really think it's "the biggest financial centre in the world" because they have your and the country's 'interest' at heart?!?!

I find at bizarre that anyone would perceive it to be a negative thing to be an independant self governing nation. 195 Countries around the world have exactly that status.

+Charlie Carter the EU is a direct result of Great Britain winning World War II against Germany. If that hadn't have happened there wouldn't be an EU today. At the end of the day the British people have decided that they can go as far as they can within this institution and that after we have consolidated and embraced a now friendly group of nations our job is done and it is time to move on. I voted to leave and are very proud to have done.

The future for the planet is closer relationships with each other. A strong belief in our countries yet also a connectedness that goes beyond nationalism.
We threw that away. We have taken a step back in history.
It would be akin to us leaving the UN or Nato. Let's just be our own isolationist rock with friends of other nations.

When I see the huge political mess Brexit has caused in the UK and the lack of commitment of the Britons, (even the remainers who cannot find a consensus on how or when to rejoin), Brussels should erect a statue for David Cameron.

If only someone in the Leave campaign could have put this case then (A) the support for Brexit would have been far higher than 52% and (B) the referendum debate would have been on a far higher level of responsibility and honesty in fitting the magnitude of the decision.

    • @gebeard
      @gebeard 7 років тому

The referendum was advisory, that much is clear. If the referendum was conducted now the result would an overwhelming majority in favor of staying within in the EU.
Try to put your thoughts into perspective and come back down to earth.

If only someone in the Leave campaign could have put the case that Mrs. May put today then (A) the support for Brexit would have been far higher than 52% and (B) the referendum debate would have been on a far higher level of responsibility and honesty in fitting with the magnitude of the decision.
Mrs. May covered everything. No question about the UK position was left unanswered. The ball is now in the EU court. How quickly will the EU come back and outline its negotiating position? Not tomorrow or even this year. That's the problem, it cannot make the right decision in time. Not today or within a year. They will be entirely flummoxed by Mrs. May's speech even though it outlined their only possible response.
The Treaty of Rome, the Common Market, the EEC and ultimately the EU has been successful in preventing war in Europe with the exception of the former Yugoslavia with ethnic cleansing on their doorstep that was only stopped by UK and US intervention. The EU has some other massive fails; they have failed to keep births above deaths, over-subsidised their farmers when they could have bought cheaper from abroad (the CAP is their biggest spend) with the consequence that their citizens have to pay over the odds for farm produce and pay extra tax to subsidise their farmers and pay further extra tax to support all the migrants from every corner of Africa because they shunned their trade, they failed to do the right thing with the PIIGS and pressed poorer members to subsidise the PIIGS overspending and debt, they have tens of thousands of bureaucrats paid more than the UK PM and refuse to have their spend audited. I could go on and on.Far from being an economic success the EUs share of world trade has been in decline for decades with the consequence that there is 45% youth unemployment in Spain and Greece. Their 100% acceptance of PC has resulted in a significant rise in murders in Norway and Sweden becoming the rape capital of the world. Norway and Sweden are not EU members but their torment is due to being related to the EU.
Now we have one of the EUs biggest fails, loosing the UK which contributed £250m per week to their excesses. And all for want of them admitting that free movement of workers was fine but failed when all the best educated young people with the most to offer their own country fled EU management and came to the UK.
      Comments welcome.

Don't she see whilst she announces these 12 principles of leaving the EU, she is drafting the very reasons why politicians from other UK nations will claim in regards to leaving the United kingdom? Most Socialism leads a stagnant closed market when the wealthy peoples money is gone, then society falls to Communism, then Marxism, and then total poverty. The only' true method is to promote an open government, foster fair civil rights, and let the people prosper in the production of goods and services, in a truly open free trade relationship with the entire world.

This is the moment that an agreement with the EU acceptable to parliament became impossible. The red lines ruled out any kind of relationship within the European sphere of influence with even Turkey was rejected as a model. The wish to keep the Irish border open, bar free movement and leave the customs Union were incompatible.

We should of just got out, end off,. Billions are just disappearing out of UK per year, i don't believe we should have a 2 year transition, EU have bleed us dry, and we have had to sacrifice many resources due to lack of money, brexit has had so much criticism from corbyn, he is quite happy for tax payers 💰 multiple billions just leaving UK and we not getting the benefits,. Teressa is playing safe, i don't like it, but I'd rather her then him.

Enough of this pathetic, treasonous hypocrisy. Well maybe it's time to stop fooling ourselves...
Time to wake the fracking hell up

Great speech but basically a gigantic wish list. Obviously if the UK gets everything they are asking for; a great trade deal but with closed borders. Immigration only to a select few that "add value" but not to refugees that need help - it would be a huge win. But it won't happen. Why would Germany or France vote to remain - just to fund the whole thing and be stuck with the huge refugee problem (the result of a failed US policy in the Middle East) and the costs and other enormous problems associated with it. Maybe the idea of turning the UK into a tax haven is not such a bad idea. Create a low tax environment that will appeal to wealthy individuals and corporations from all over the world. Brexit could well mark the beginning of the end of the EU.

    • @DEMONIKMINION
      @DEMONIKMINION 7 років тому +1

Precisely why France WILL vote for LePen and subsequently out of the EU. leaving Germany to fund everything , that's providing their economy holds up that long.
Maybe then the remoaners will finally STFU.

France is identical to the UK in terms of both population and GDP per capita and sits in joint second place after Germany. Italy's population is 4 million below the UK and it's GDP per capita is approximately 5kUSD behind the UK. Spain's population is 7 million below the UK and it's GDP per capita is 8kUSD behind the UK. Nothing was incorrect in what I said. After discussing the UK and Germany I qualified "most of the rest"..NOT "all of the rest" as non-countries with 5-10 million population and very poor GDP. Do try to pay attention when a commentator of my calibre is speaking. I did not explicitly mention Italy or Spain (or indeed ROI, Greece or Portugal for that matter). These are the PIIGS, too big to fail and next in line for an EU bailout. In many ways, these are more of a problem then the low contributing eastern European member states. OUT.

Samuel L we have no choice but to link with the US... The EU will prove very hard to give UK any deal out of spite and not to set a precedence for others to leave and demand the same deal. Theresa is taking on the mess that we all voted. Trump could save us from drowning! we need the US now more than ever
