  • Last game of 1993 regular season for both teams. Both clinched a playoff spot. Winner gets a bye week so this is a vital game. Emmitt Smith puts a gutsy performance in after getting as serious shoulder injury late in the 2nd quarter.

Geez... I watched this live 26 years ago, and even though I knew the final score, it felt like live again. I heard Madden was so impressed with #22 playing hurt, he went in the locker room after the game and told Emmett it was the most courageous play he’d ever seen.

There will never be times like this again. I feel very fortunate to have experienced these days. The NFC was a battle zone back then. Not Football or anything as far as that goes will be like that again.

The History of this game. Dan Reeves, a Tom Landry pupil, Jimmy Johnson, The Coach who replaced Tom Landry, Jerry Jones, who did not want to pay Emmitt learned why he needed to pay him, the turf became the Giants best friend but Emmitt was the man! Emmitt's grit to get him the glory! Why it is hard to believe any Cowboys team will ever have this much swag and playmakers

I like to call this the Emmitt Smith “Legacy Game”. You talk about lending the Cowboys a shoulder. I knew he was going into the HOF on the first ballot. Thank you, Emmitt Smith - Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, thank you, Cowboys, thsnk you Jerry Jones, thank you Jimmy Johnson, How ‘bout them Cowboys?!
A beautiful example of what a “Prima Donna” isn’t.

This was definitly a HOF performance ranks with the great ones pure toughness for Emmitt because this Giants defense was solid they were making some solid physical hits on him but see that's what made him so great he took it in stride unlike other great backs do but it's all respect we know what it is

This was the most consequential season finale ever - winner gets the #1 seed and homefield advantage, loser drops to the #4 seed and has to play 3 games, 2 on the road, just to get to the Super Bowl. Scenario has never happened since - this past season's 49ers-Seahawks season finale came the closest.

Irvin was basically doubled all day.
The Giants in that big soft zone of theirs took absolutely everything downfield away.
In their first meeting Troy hit a couple of deep ones, and the Giants WERE NOT going to let that happen again.
They were determined that Aikman was going to have to grind it out bit by little bit, on this day.
Basically forced to take what the D was giving him.
      He did.
His ego didnt get in the way of the larger goal.
      Excellent quarterbacking by #8.

      LOL
Aikman had great talent, snough for Dallas to be Air Jimmy if thats what Coach wanted to.
But Johnson was a defensive minded guy, who was run first on offense.
And obtw; we have a hall of fame QB as a backup or Plan B option to our offense.
      Ridiculous.
