John Madden never visited locker rooms after games but on this day he went down and found Smith and told him this was the gutsiest performance he’d ever seen.

I was blessed to watch two of the more indelible games in my NFL childhood on this day. The first was this all time regular season classic. The second was the last signature regular season win of the Los Angeles Raiders, who came back from 30-13 down to the Broncos to win 33-30 and make the playoffs. But Emmitt absolutely earned the MVP with this performance. The last vestiges of what the NFL was for me as a kid, with Madden and Summerall calling a physical NFC game on CBS.
Madden pointed out that both Backs gained over a hundred yards, which is rare. Both Backs, both teams came to Ball. Offenses & Defenses on both teams came to play.. . Big D prevailing. Great rivalry in the 90s.
Keep your Chiefs-Rams video game scores all day. Cowboys-Giants dueling it out for every point with Madden and Summerall calling... that's the best regular season game of all time.

They always credit that o-line...the one that didn't make Derrick Lassic or Lincoln Coleman or Tommie Agee or Curvin Richards 4 ypc rushers. None of his backups from 1992-1994 averaged 4 yards a carry, but Emmitt was 'carried' by his o-line. If that was the case, his holdout would've blown up in his face and Dallas would've rolled to the title in 1993 without him. Dude was the heart and soul of that entire team.
This is the definitive Emmitt Smith game. Sure, there were other games where he gained more yards and had longer runs, but if someone asked me "Who was Emmitt Smith?", I'd show them this game.
This is why Smith is the best back to ever play. With a grade 3 spearated shoulder (cant get any worse) he ran for 160+ yards and a couple TD's. Theres no RB ive seen do that. I dont think ive ever seen a RB play with a separated shoulder much less rush for 160+. Barry was faster and more shifty but he couldnt and wouldnt do that for his team.
I can recall listening to the game on the radio and it was exciting ! This was before NFL Sunday Ticket and at that time that wasn't a National game on CBS so it was not televised in our area.

One of the great games in history.
Emmitt Smith the GREATEST running back ever any doubt just watch this Warrior do his thing "HURT" in this game
Remember the Cowboy Giant game when the first time Emmit touched the ball he went for a 65 yard TD? I think it was a Monday night game as well. I was in my early to mid 20's back then. I loved the NFL. I didn't even watch the Super Bowl yesterday, only watch college now. I love Auburn Tigers and don't care about anything else....
Emmitt played that entire game almost with a dislocated shoulder
Madden came out of the booth and went down to the locker room and told Emmitt this was the greatest game he had ever seen! Totally the highest praise comin from a coach and probably one the best to do it in the booth
This game was the one where I went from hating Emitt Smith, being a Giants fan, to really respecting him. He carried his team with one arm.
Dude was the heart and soul of that entire team.
hey you finally uploaded this one thanks, so glad my cowboys season wont have to come down to this lol
I was 26 and had a 71' SS Monte Carlo back then.I will say this; I was very grateful
This is the definitive Emmitt Smith game. Sure, there were other games where he gained more yards and had longer runs, but if someone asked me "Who was Emmitt Smith?", I'd show them this game.
Please bring those yrs back😭😭😭😭😭I miss them😢😢😢😢
One of my all-time favorite games
Jondavid Bristow: Same here!!
I love these Giants Jerseys
Pedro Henrique same
And the helmets 🏈🏈🏈😊👍
This is why Smith is the best back to ever play. With a grade 3 spearated shoulder (cant get any worse) he ran for 160+ yards and a couple TD's. Theres no RB ive seen do that. I dont think ive ever seen a RB play with a separated shoulder much less rush for 160+. Barry was faster and more shifty but he couldnt and wouldnt do that for his team.
The game that showed how physical and mental tough those cowboys team was
A true warrior thank God I was bless to be born in 1975
Nice to stumble upon this 25 years to the date!
They hit people, HARD in these days.
Rest In Paradise to the two best...Pat Summerall and John Madden
Emmit showed unreal toughness. This was like a playoff game. They don't win it that year without this game.
I watch these all day seriously I'm glad the NFL is doing this makes the days without any football go by quicker. #FootballJunkie
I didn't think you guys would actually do it thanks a lot throwback
Ill never forget this game
Back when everyone playing seemed to be a star...all day Sunday's watching football and snoozing on the couch.!!
Still enjoying this decades later
I can recall listening to the game on the radio and it was exciting ! This was before NFL Sunday Ticket and at that time that wasn't a National game on CBS so it was not televised in our area.
I love this channel!
Football at its greatest. From the 70s through the 90s.
Emmitts the GOAT of RBs and this game is a good demonstration of why ...
He's goat of running backs and played for Florida gators
Man, I wish I was around during the Simms and LT era.
Very nice format to see all the important plays!!! Madden and Summerall are a dynamic duo!!! Madden is the Hoss though!!!
classics I miss those days
That was one hell of a game from Emmitt Smith, the GOAT!! 🐐
What a tremendous game!!!! The Giants defense played about as hard as a unit can play. This was the great Lawrence Taylor's last game as a professional before he retired, and he made an impact, too!! I'd be remiss without mentioning Emmit Smith and the great impact he had on this game - particularly in the first half, building Dallas' lead up to 13 - 0 at halftime - he really ran with some reckless abandon, getting crucial yards time after time!! Pat Summerall and John Madden apply the cherry on top as the outstanding broadcaster and analyst duo for the football fan at home. It doesn't get much better than this as an NFL classic!!!
A good clean game well played by both teams.
4 Carmybel:👍.
Legends of football.. classic times.
I worked with a kid who went to high school with him in Pensacola, Florida. He said they never lost a game.
