Mixing Drums with the Tools You Have

- You don’t need all of the fanciest gear and outboard processing to get good drum sounds! Phil Bledsoe walks through his approach to mixing drums with the tools you have, and introduces some new ideas you can implement into your mixes.
Key Points:
-Remember, no drum mix is complete until it’s in context of the rest of the band. The drums have a relationship with the rest of the band too!
-Try Phil’s 6/3 rule: 63Hz and 6.3KHz!
-Don’t be afraid to take a setting to it’s extremes, it’s helpful to know what something is doing!
-Save time by copying settings from similar sized drums and mics, and pasting them to the next. It might not work perfectly, but it’s saved you a few steps!

A good tip on gating snare tops: Use the sidechain filter on the fundamental frequency so no matter how quiet they play, it will still come through; but will reject the cymbal bleed.
That channel input delay tip was amazing to me. i always use polarity and never thought of the physics of instrument and mic placement like that.
I love this type of video!
Very helpful! Thanks!
also, Phil. sounds great. I don't think you copied the eq over to the OH SL from SR.. just the compressor. I get the point though.
I don’t think you used enough senhiser mics…
Only thing missing is a Sennheiser polo shirt
If you’re decreasing the attack on a gate you are slowing down how fast it responds so you are cutting off the beginning of the signal not opening it up
Is there any way to get access to those awsome multitracks used here? Im kinda impressed of those
X2 please bro 🙏
This guy looks like older Matt Bomer from White Collar… also super helpful video 👌
not sure if it's on purpose, but the quality only goes till 360p. maybe the HD version hasn't uploaded
HD is still uploading. Thanks for understanding.
@@mxurocks no worries! sorry to be a bother!

@caleconrad2332 Not a bother at all!
Mixing Drums with the Tools You Have, i was expecting a behringer 8 channel mixer.
One thing I didn't see you try to use is swapping the compressor before the PEQ
What are the pros/cons of this?
Do you have a curse for the Allen&Heath SQ?
we sure do! follow this link to see our course on the SQ app.getmxu.com/previews/playlists/6e509f3b
dang, that must be a looong bass drum for 3.5ms of delay on the inside mic! that's over 3.5feet of delay 😬
holy shit
To be honest . . if you can't mix the show with only what you have on this console . . .consider a new career please.
