The truth is that Tim is saying in a light-hearted manner the same things that a LOT of Christians are:
*many of the contemporary songs are endlessly repetitive (sometimes 1 verse sung 8 (!) times)
    * they are not written for corporate worship and are difficult to sing
*typically, they are poorly composed and the lyrics lack substance
I am not the only Christian who feels this way. A lot of us are spending the entire (lengthy) song service repenting for the resentment we feel.

It's also why they lose Christians. As well as most just mouth the words and after a few repeats shut up and wait till it's over.

I love that I go to a modern church that does what he is saying. Modern Worship/Praise music is great.. but hymns do give a more finite plateau to the message.

Gordon McElvany i went to a Dutch Reformed farming community church meeting one time in Rural Alberta. Blew away anything i’ve heard before. They were belting it out like nothing i’ve heard, the Cathedral was rumbling. Young & old. Amazing. Then afterward everybody’s outside having a smoke! Lol
      Good people though.
Generally I’m not a fan of churches that insist on no instruments because of the baggage that comes with insisting on tradition which blinds & pollutes scripture interpretation.
On the other end of the spectrum I can’t even hear myself sing in those performance oriented churches. Ridiculous.

I led worship for 11 years, and always tried to incorporate hymns and older choruses into the song set. I work on Sundays now, but the handful of times I've been able to make it to church, it seems like all the songs are all post 2014. No hymns; no older choruses. The modern stuff is fine, but keep the older stuff alive too.

As a former worship co leader, guitar and bass player, I get the humor. Worship is a personal thing that doesn’t work the same with everyone. We as Christians gather together and are not always happy with the style, songs and such so we contend over that and go to a different church and then that church gets a new worship leader or pastor and it all changes so we have to look for a different church that not only accepts our musical style, but doctrine too and other amenities. If the bathrooms have good fixtures, a certain amount of privacy but not too overly decorative, I feel these bathrooms reflect the true spirit of the church of God. We as Christians are flawed, blinded, proud and often totally full of ourselves which makes us perfect material for humor. The sad thing is most humor about Christians comes from ignorant world view comedians who get it wrong a lot but not always. So when someone knows the more inside workings of just how odd the people in the church can be, and voices it, it can be very funny if done right. Christian humor is hard and not often funny. I Don’t always like everything Tim does, but the trick to good humor is preferably in a nice way, point out someone’s else’s or our own shortcomings. So it’s great to know it’s Gods grace that saves us. Even if I have the voice of a angel and all knowledge, but have not love, I am nothing (slightly paraphrased but the general idea is there)

I went to a church once, and when the pastor got up to lead the prayer line, he handed over to someone else to lead the worship. Well, they sang only one song, but they sang it 8 times. When the pastor got back he said "Wasn't that a great song? Let's sing it one more time".
As I stood up and picked up my bible I said in a loud voice, "Oh, Let's not" and walked out.
And although I wasn't there, I guarantee, they didn't sing it just ONE more time. I think even God would be getting fed up with one song over and over for 15 minutes!

I really think that including the hymns and chorus from a long time ago is very important, not because of the verses😊but because it’s part of our history. I love the newer worship songs as well. I think a good mix is also beneficial to our children because if we don’t teach them, they won’t carry them to the next generation. Music is my favorite way to worship, old, new you name it. There are both hymns and worship songs that are repetitive and I think of them in different ways. Some of the newer worship songs that repeat a phrase over and over maybe God trying to get a message across to you! Or you might need that phrase sung over and over in your head to help you during a hard time or during a happy time to celebrate. Sometime a song like Healing Rain I think are so awesome when sung at a big gathering, I feel like im lifted up off the ground! Hymns are more strait to the point and we need that as well! Different music styles can help us all at different times in our lives and I’m so thankful for them, even in Sunday school there are old and new songs to learn! I don’t think he is being disrespectful, I just thank that he is talking about what we all think sometimes.

Alright brothers and sisters. Bunch of attacks on Tim here and frankly on those of us who find him to be right and funny. For all of you who are offended by Tim, here's what I ask of you: Should we worship the way God shows us or the way we invent for our personal nirvana experience? Feeling good in the Lord is good, but only with true worship. For all who disagree, here is your challenge: Find me one Psalm that repeats the same exact words over and over and over and over again, back to back, in a row, droning on into eternity. No, the angels who sing Holy, Holy, Holy night and day don't count, we're not those angels. Find one Psalm, which God gave to show us His wisdom and love and to set forth a pattern of worship, that even resembles this mindless modern worship. Go.

Similar request: can you not repeat things repeat things repeat things that you wouldn't in real life real life real life yeah yeah yeah? :) For example, can you imagine saying to your earthly father "You're a good, good father. It's who you are. It's who you are. It's who you are." By this time most people you're talking to would be annoyed.

I hate going to "modern" churches. Just let me have my bulletin, I'll go sit down in a pew somewhere not too obvious, pull out the hymnal, mark the pages of the 3 songs, and pretend I'm doing something constructive so that I don't have to say hi to people whose names I don't know, and I hate going around the sanctuary to shake hands with everyone else before finally going back to my pew. I haven't been to church in 8 years now and it's a very long story that cut me deeply.

    • @TarzanHedgepeth
      @TarzanHedgepeth 4 роки тому

We are told in Hebrews to not neglect meeting with the brethren. Fellowship is important, in Christ. Find a church, keep seeking. Find a church that greets the new people genuinely and calmly, that reads from the Word and teaches from it, and that worships the Lord with their voices and actions instead of self serving with their voices and actions. Yes, more rare now, but not gone. I thought I wouldn't find one, but the Lord settled me in a town I never thought I would live in specifically because this congregation is a good one in the Lord. We're out here, you just gotta find us. I know pain. I also know sometimes that it's not our fault and sometimes it is our fault. At any rate, I'll pray for you. I hope you'll give the search a try. Confess to the Lord your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive. Submit to Him and your attitude will change. I'm not a Pastor (yet, if I am ever to be), but allow me to inspire you to run back to the other 99 so that there will be celebration in Heaven and on earth for your return to Him. Love, a brother in Christ. 👊

I don’t know how many times i’ve tried address this problem in all seriousness. Women worship leaders, no, stop, enough, just STOP! Accompany a man singer, sure, okay. But by yourself, no. We cannot & do not follow women in life, & in singing cannot follow your vocal ranges nore guess at the song unless it were a hymn where we can figure out the notes. Worship leaders need to lead. Stop pretending to be spiritual going off on tangents nobody can follow. We don’t buy it. Do you do that by yourself at home with the door closed? Na i didn’t think so. Just lead, facilitate worship & stop trying to perform & be “spiritual”. Help others enter into worship by NOT getting in the way.
