@@limalima6740 Refurbished Thinkpads should do the trick. I got a X250 refurbished and that laptop is great (though mine has a crappy TN 1366x768 screen which I'll be replacing it soon).

got this same exact laptop with the Pentium 4 2.8, and it’s crazy how heavy it is! Runs Lubuntu flawlessly but windows 7 is very slow. Quite an interesting laptop to have!
@Mayara & Omar & Friends Are you using a hard drive instead of an SSD by any chance? That may be why your device is so slow. If you switch to an SSD it should be much faster. From what I can tell you have a 4th gen i3, so if you have at least 4gb of ram it should work fine if you've got an SSD. The integrated GPU is indeed crap and you can't do anything about it though.
The second stick of ram is under the keyboard on the other side of the motherboard if I recall correctly. This was my first new laptop (but the amd variant), had it for years before selling it on. I remember when I bought it they advertised it as 'only weighting as much as a gallon and a half of milk' or about 8lbs. This thing was a beast and ran great the whole time I owned it.
I have a similar one from 2004. I loved mine but I think it was a Celeron. Massive, thick, heavy, but a great laptop! I used to love the Compaq logo on the back of the screen too, and how blaring and loud the speakers were!

I've got a ThinkPad t440p, a bit thick for today's climate, but I put an i7 in it and an SSD, with Windows 10, it runs like a dream for my computing college course.
I just upgraded a Dell Dimension 8400 desktop that came with 1 Gb of RAM, NVidia Geforce GT 240 GPU, and a 80 Gb SATA HDD. I stepped up the RAM to 3 Gb and the HDD to 120 Gb. I left the PCI-e GPU as it works well and the monitor only uses VGA. I am planning on a video soon. Your videos are my sweet spot. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Still got my thick ass 2007 dell xps m1710. Core 2 duo, I forgot the dedicated gpu card but I was able to run cs and played too many hours of WoW on it. Still works till this day
Great laptop! I've been looking for a p4 laptop with a dedicated graphics card, you're absolutely right when you said they are hard to find. Thanks for another video.
My University Laptop used from 2006-2010. Yes its heavy but keyboard and Audio quality was great. With window xp it worked great. I disassembled it so many times that i know each and every screw.
Nice! I’ve actually got an older one of their laptops, the presario 1600 it’s also got JBL speakers, all in all works surprisingly well the original battery still works even! Still holds up to an hour charge!
Great review! It's always good to see these older Windows XP and earlier based laptops get a second life with more retro based tasks, as some pieces of software simply will not run on anything newer. Also, which SSD bracket do you recommend for older IDE hard drives? I have a few IDE hard drives that I might want to convert to SSD so it might come in useful to buy some laptop IDE to SSD converters (better than picking up used IDE hard drives, and IDE to SATA will not fit).
The YT rabbit hole brought me here. I have the R4000 Athlon 64 model 2005 still in working order, I was surprised that when I recently opened it up it had very little dust inside.
This has always been one of my favorite laptops or atleast one very similar, idk something about them when I saw them when I was younger has just stuck with me.
This brought back some memories! I bought one with a settlement from a car accident. Had for about 5 years and ended up install Mac OS on it before it finally died.
Oh, the memories! Except for the thickness, it looks almost the same as my first laptop, a Compaq Presario v2000, packed with an AMD Athlon 64 (also in a full socket) and 512mb of RAM. I think it was a bit newer model than this. Great video as always!
I’ve got 2 Athlon 64 R4000s, absolutely love them. Not much to do with them online considering the last browser on XP was a version of Firefox from 2018, but I’d take them over any modern laptop any day when I need to type for long periods of time
I used to have a Presario model that was this thick and had a 4:3 screen ratio. I had Windows 7 starter 32 bit running on it with 1GB DDR. I must say it was running surprisingly well.
I bought one of these R3000s almost 15 years ago on ebay for about $10 when I decided I wanted to work on laptops. As it turns out, batteries weren't available then either, and I still have the laptop. It's a beast but pretty fun to play with. I did eventually get a battery too from HP's twin brother model from the same time frame, but it's pretty weak.
That's an impressive price. I just bought 3 of these for nostalgia sake and hope to make 1 working laptop out of them; total cost was over $85! Plan to weld my own battery together using their BMS for like new performance (which wasn't great if I recall correctly).

@Mayara & Omar & Friends Have you used a Pentium 4 in the modern day? A low power i3 is several times stronger than a P4 with just one of their cores.
