His restorations are good. He never forgets to clean the laptop with some eucalyptus oil.
100th like.

he has a smart strategy.
Yep, and can’t forget about that legendary eucalyptus oil
This looks like something a lot of enthusiasts would love to see - the 8 bit guy in particular! Great find!
The 8-bit guy would fry the laptop trying to replace the power supply's cable with paper clips...
@@zoomer8367 lol
The 8 bit guy is more interested in older hardware
here is the video I'm referencing if anyone's interested (it happens at the 4:37 minute mark) ua-cam.com/video/Wh2OCBZpzZ8/v-deo.html
@@zoomer8367 for how long do you guys will keep referencing this? Forget about it, it's over a year already.
Working in a university after I graduated, I was allowed to take one of these home at night and on weekends. In the early 90's, this was cutting edge stuff. The actual concept of portable computing was still fairly new and it felt amazing at the time.
Perfect way to end the week! The technological advancements we've made over the last 29 years is simply astonishing!
What channel member are you?
And a lot of people probably didn't even know these things were available, or at least what these catalog pictured things were all about. Too expensive to buy anyway. I know that's how it was for me. but i was bit young maybe still on a paper route.
My goodness that is a nice looking Duo
Thanks for watching 🙂 One day I may also replace the capacitors (when I learn how to solder properly). If anyone has any info on replacing / repairing the battery, feel free to let me know!
Hi
Omg second reply!!!! Also you have 6 LIKES ONLY!!???
@@therobloxianstar4689 here before this blows 🆙

It´s a NIMH battery so probably pretty easy todo.
You can get new cells with solder taps applied.
They can have a slightly different capacity as long as they´re the same physical size as the original ones (obviously).
Maybe you can share a few photos of the inside, then i could figure out the arrangment of the cells and maybe the size you need.
There are a few common types.
You make my stressful day of exam by another great restoration
I was honestly not expecting a laptop like that! It's amazing how technology has moved on from the early 1990s!
My colleague at work had one of those. It was a technological marvel at the time (although those trackballs were pretty awful).
Imagine 32mb of storage
I love the design choice of Apple in the early 90's. Makes me teleport to some old university in the US and using the BBS, stuff like that makes me happy and your videos work like some sort of escapism for me so I'm happy to see new videos of yours whenever you upload them.
Yes even though the price is bullshit at he time. I like how Apple laptops at the time have a good design
I remember stumbling across this thing when cleaning out our house long ago, and never thought much about it until watching this video and being reminded of it. I definitely would have loved tinkering inside it if I had the same amount of knowledge when I was a kid as I do now.
7 minutes 22 seconds without the eucalyptus oil, i was getting worried
Had a pair of these, along with the Duo Dock, back in the 1990s. Some of my favorites I've ever had.
Sadly I threw a lot of my Apple collection out before UA-cam existed, I really wish I had taken a lot more pictures of my kit! I still have this model though along with the powered dock & a 250 model. I might have to start my own channel!
i love watching your restoration videos! it’s so satisfying to see old tech products being brought back to life.
I would like to congratulate you; throughout this video you have acted with determination, enthusiasm and honesty and for these reasons, all of France adores you.
How amazing! It’s so cute to see this PowerBook Duo.
Made me smile seeing this restored and used, been a long time since i've seen these. Great work!
My jaw dropped as soon as I saw Chuck Yeager’s Air Combat. I’m old, so I spent many, many hours playing that game back in the mid nineties. So many fond memories. Great video!
The grey parts are yellowed too! They should be a cool blueish grey :) love the dock though. Imagine having a large hard drive and two NuBus cards in there! Desktop power at home and laptop portability on the go!
Bro you’re so close to 200k! Congrats! Can’t wait till you get there! (You’re a great guy)
Love these vintage Apple videos. You will always have my respect.
The computer has some nice “trackpad”
Trackball*
@@mariosanchezolmedo6898 hence the quote-on-quote, “trackpad”.
Love this video!!
Crazy that you upgraded the hard drive with MicroSD!!
wow this brought back some good memories!! I was 8 years old when my father brought one of these home that sat in the lost and found at his job for years, I LOVED that thing, took it apart many times!! I was probably 7 when I first got it. Now I remember what got me obsessed with apples products
Awesome! I'm so glad the SCSI2SD worked!
Did you know: The displays on the 68030 Duo line are swappable. If you want to make your 230 a color Duo, you can swap in the active-matrix color screen from a 270c. It'll be a frankenstein machine with no visible nameplate (since the 230 has its nameplate on the screen, and the 270c has its nameplate on the keyboard upper)
Or, of course, if you find a 270c these days, you could restore that instead. 😂
Ooohhhh things I did in the early 2000s that I now regret....
Anyway, thanks for the video and the painstaking restoration! These were super cool little machines. Now all you need is the PowerPC version: the Duo 2300c. It'll fit right in your existing dock!
This is one of the best channels around. Ancient tech is just really cool and its nice to learn about it!
Cool!!! And yeah, man. You can't have too many SCSI2SDs (or Floppy EMUs!) hanging around!
That drive spinning sounds like Mr. Crabs running lmao
I always find your videos so satisfying to watch.
You made my night I guess 😅😅😅
Hello Psivewri i just got your channel membership you are awesome! i hope to watch your videos for many years to come :DD
I repaired few of those, few notes: The original HDs can be repaired a lot of times as the rubber stop on the heads gets all sticky and the heads won't move out of the original position. Magnets on the heads need to be taken off and the rubber stop replaced. Also these laptops were from a era when manufacturers used capacitors prone to leaking. So if you want to preserve the machine, the recap is a good idea. There are some capacitors in the display itself that are also usually leaking and cause drifting contrast or other issues on these laptops.
I loved that "bruh" at 3:05
I love watching your video I love retro tech its so interning to see all different types of tech from 200s and 90s I love it
Laptops have come along way since the 1990s. Some 1990s USA TV shows show kids using laptops running DOS or Windows 3.11
Nice to know someone is also working hard on a PowerBook restoration. Im currently working on a way to restore a PowerBook 190.
Cool creative video, great job!
great video - yeah, Chuck Yeager's air combat - It's a great day for flying or there's no second place in air combat ;-)
3:04 Nathan: the computer is working
Computer: *sike*
There was the time (2009-2011) I admired all Apple devices... I got my first MacBook in 2009 - the black one :) Then in 2011 my first MacBook Pro, Ipod, Iphone, Ipads .... But sadly, being an engineering professional, I cant use it since then as all soft is windows or Linux based. But what i can really say - old Apple devices were much better then those we see now in Apple store (quality, feeling, assembly). Your restorations - I watched them all - you do the great job, giving them a new life again.... Thank you for good videos and good mood.
yet another great restoration!
Thank you for the links! I have a Powerbook Duo 2300c that I've been wanting to get working again for years. I already have the blank disks and external floppy drives. Fingers crossed!
5:38 - Glad to see some good ol' Woolies cling wrap being put to good use
Older tech is cool i just hope there will be videos about commodore's computers
That B&W screen looks better then i imagined.
Opening the box with a "Do you call this a knife?"- knife! 😄
Também gosto muito de restaurar máquinas antigas .
Parabéns ótima restauração 😁.
I never forget those little PowerBooks! I was in 8th grade at the time.
Eucalyptus oil wasn't mentioned until 7:21 in a little over 10 min. video. Somehow that's good on him, his work deserves better recognition than just a tagline.
Well done, as always - your work is inspirational - I have learned much - keep it up!
Nice, I reassembled one years ago, never got around to finding a power brick that would work. I guess I should.
For a moment the loud “bruh” when the error box sounded like it came from the Mac lmao.
Totally agree! 8-bit guy will contact you soon… I guess!! Thank you for the video!
My first laptop was a PowerBook Duo 210. I loved that thing, and just how miniscule it was. Other than my G3-400 Lombard, all of my portable Macs have been the smallest available at the time.
What a cool laptop and dock. Another cool video
Definitely looks like a must-have for Action Retro.
Cool computer! I have an old Toshiba Techra 520 CDT that I bought used many years ago. It did come a dock which is very interesting. Dock has some nice speakers for great audio, several expansion slots for additional cards. It’s eject did not work because I did not have the key for it. That was an easy fix. As for the computer the hard drive now just clicks and computer would not boot up. The floppy drive no longer works since the drive belt snapped. This computer has some valuable software on it and I was lucky enough to find a shop that will try to recover all of the data from the drive. Need to find some belts for the floppy drive and new batteries for memory. As for the hard drive I have an IDE to M2 memory card hard drive adapter. Hopefully I can recover this machine so it can be used with the programs I have for it.
My issue is that I no longer live in the states and here in Europe it’s difficult to find the supplies that I need.
Its never a psivewri video without some eucalyptus oil!
Excellent video and a fun restoration. Thanks for sharing.
Didn't know Apple laptops in the early 90s could be this wild
You are the tech guy. You can fix things well.
The feeling of this new "paradise of hardware" was just better and never seen before back then.
OMG. This is IT video! I will happily watch. 😊
the "bruh" sound is played at the most prefect bruh momento
Wow looks good
Any chance we get an Amiga 500/1200restoration? Man, your vids are truly nice! Nostalgia 100%!!!
To help with the yellowing. A cheap set up can be made that works 10 times better then the sun light. Take a tuffy clear one wrap it in tinfoil then place a uv light above it in a really dark room. Some people use uv leds to line the side and bottom which is better but cost more. Just doing it the cheap way is way better then just sun light though. Just make sure its filled above the plastic with 2 parts proxcide and 1 part water. This mixture can be reused. Itll turn the most yellowed thing white again.
you are very good
at this keep it up
3:03 LOLLL
I believe in pro longing some of these old computers if they're still capable of working, especially for some old games but they're also very useful for another aspect. Any new films/tv dramas set in the 90's, 2000's and 2010's would benefit from these as props but restored to factory looking condition, cleaned and retrobryting so they look like they did when they came out.
Biggest dock i've ever seen, its amazing how far we have come in terms of docks for laptops, they are like the size of a pack of gum now.
i know this is an unusual request but could you share the harddrive icon you have there? it's one of the more attractive ones i've seen..
just copypaste it onto a folder and droostuff it : )
This was great, thank you!
Great video
Thanks
im happy to see you giving credit and links without being sponsored, sweet
even though i'm late, i think that conner drive has a melting rubber piece. tape over the rubber with some tape and it should work
I had one of these used to like the quake warning sound and the text to speech had like heaps of different voices to choose from these things were build like tanks
You needed to put the system enabler on the instal floppy disk for os 7.1
C'mon psivewri ! the crown jewel of this video would have been to upgrade the dock with a hard drive!
Really cool machine, found working one in our server room :D
Psivwri and eucalyptus oil go together like peanut butter and jelly
I remember the duo & duodock- I had one ! Superb bit of kit, back in the day :-)
One of your best videos!!! This was so cool 🤩 thanks for what you do!!
amazing video, cheers from Brazil
love it. keep up the good work
Best video yet! Such a cool laptop and dock
Just discovered your channel and love it, suuuuuubbed.
This reminds me of a Nintendo switch from…… 29 years ago! But in a computer. Nice job! And nice job Apple!
I dunno why but the brightly colored bowie knife made me laugh. XD Like something a mall ninja would crave.
Great video! I love my 280c, probably my favourite Mac in my whole collection. Would love to get my hands on the dock. I have a SCSI2SD ready to install.
Please make a knife channel lol. Love seeing all the crazy knives you whip out
thc goes really well w ur vids
Bought the 2300c and the DuoDock brand new when they came out in 1997.
I like this channel , thanks for your efforts 👍🏻
Not sure if this is in the video or not, but these require an enabler to run 7.1, PowerBook Duo Enabler 1.0 or the older System Enabler 201 specifically. If you're going to install System 7.1 on a Mac that requires an enabler, it is far better to track down the original custom install disks for that particular model.
I had a PowerBook Duo 230 back in the early 2000's, btw...along with a 280c. The 280c is an amazing laptop; I regret selling it. 280c needs 7.1.1 with PowerBook Duo Enabler v2.0, or later.
You forgot to recap the logic board on the PB Duo itself, they like to piss everywhere and cause problems. Also, the PSU on the dock needs attention in the same area for the same reasons.
what an amazing piece from apple, cheers for the video. greetigs from nova scotia!
The DuoDock is awesome!
I have the power pc version of this mac with the boxes and it works has original os installed to.
