Having a green-ish tint to the shadows in this context is physically accurate. Fluorescent bulbs give off a greenish-white light. Sometimes the tint can be so strong that color correcting for them in video editing is a PITA.
In Krita there's the brush "Shapes_fill" (the one with a green flask), which acts like a lasso that's immediately filled. I find it works well for searching as it both has precise borders and allows to quickly create a messy sketch. Unlike with a regular brush you can immediately get sharp angles (if you draw an "8"). It's also very fast processing-wise.
My friend who uses photoshop is so jealous of the shape fill brush. (It's based on the software called alchemy which has the flask logo) Krita also has alpha inheritance for groups so you don't have to make clipping masks... and better color pickers :)
Love the shape-fill tool as well! Often I use it (sometimes in combination with the mirror symmetry) to explore shapes and find interesting new designs. Also use it for alpha inheritance.
I keep getting impressed by how thorough you are with your process, your experimentations and the explanation of it all, as well as the production and quality of your videos. Lots of respect for you, and thank you for inspiring and teaching me and a LOT of other people, Boro!
oohhh how about having some of the lights dimmer or burned out totally? i feel like that could lend to the creepy atmosphere and well most stores have at least a few lights that aren't working properly anyway.
i really love how this one is turning out. im a big fan of the SCP universe and i always love it when you tackle one of them to draw. Im also learning quite a lot from the past Videos and i think it helps me quite a bit with my learning progress of painting digitaly. Thanks a lot for all the great content, keep it up ;D
in case of anyone needs, Ctrl Shift Alt N for New layer, Ctrl Alt G for Clipping Mask, / for Lock transparency iirc also you could use Magic wand tool to quickly select the 'silhoutte' (tips: Expand by 1 pixel then Smooth selection by 1 or 2 then feather 0.5), then fill with Alt delete
Very cool! This is really similar to how comic book colorists work. They start with a flats layer (you called it shape block-in) and then duplicate it and work on the duplicate. That way you always have a layer where you can quickly wand select any blocked in shape you need and then quickly Duplicate+pixel-lock that shape from the work layer.
I used to paint in a similar way to this, and I always found that the different elements looked like stamps because of how you have to work with the edges in layers. The edges don't blend together or get lost naturally as you would expect in traditional art, and whilst that allows for more control, it always feels contrived when you have to go over everything trying to make things feel cohesive and real right at the end. The way you did it, Boro, feels very bold and graphic. I'm interested to see how you combat these issues that I used to have with this method in the future!
Boro, my man, it`s good to see you doing your thing. As you`re aproaching this new "shape design based techique" I would suggest you take a look at Atey Ghalian`s works and pipeline. Maestro places shapes via lasso and clipping layers all the time while keeping dynamics high. You could probably find an interesting trick or two.
I'd been using this technique in Krita, and it worked, but I wasn't sure about it... Whether it was "legit", lol. Seeing a professional artist recommend it is so validating! 💜
Or you could just use the lasso(?) I was deathly afraid of the lasso, because I didn't know how to use it. But then I started using it to draw shapes... Or outline of shapes. And I'm starting to understand why those crazy Chinese art Gods use it so much. Now I start all my painting with drawing shapes with the selection and colouring them with messy brushes. Also, just trying to sit tight and doing all the searching and stuff in the thumbnail phase is going to just save you time, the most valuable resource we have. Why spend 10 minutes searching on the canvas, having to render things a bit more to see if things even work when you could do a small little thing where few brushstrokes let you search about 10 different ways.
I'm thinking about getting a new higher res monitor and I don't really know what to look for in terms of specs for digital art? Anyone knowledgeable in the comment section willing to help me out?
I really like how the Ikea employees look, it's simple but unique. And it's quite fun to mess around with there proportions and features

Now i know how to use transparency masks. LET'S GOOOOOO!!!
Hi dez
They're totally rad

I'm gonna go try that right now
this tool is amazing, thank you for recommending it!! :D

Yes, I use an approach that is pretty close to that. I feel it is super powerful. You inspired me to paint something today, thanks :)
The vibes of this video are amazing 🙏 the music that you chose fits the artwork so well ✨
I always get impressed by how intuitive and accurate are boro's color choices

I love that reflection on the floor on the far left in this version, it really pushes the diagonal orientation of the piece
Your explanations are great as always, and the art is super on point!

Just discovered the SCP series and am glad I came early here
Just in time for epik painting witnessing
Hey, I called it with my comment in the last video! :D
Ah yes, clipping masks.
One of my favourite tools in the history of ever.
Or you could just use the lasso(?)

What's with prices on WingFox being 69, I mean apparently it's funny so I don't mind
I always second-guess if I'm living in reality when I see things that cost 69
Cuz $70 is too much.
The less complicates the scarier
Yay that's how I work
video about controller didnt popped....
Thank you! Took me a while to realize I was planning to add it in the actual pop-up. It's been in the description the whole time lol
I like how the music is vibing with the video but also feels lazy
How do you resize follow!ng the vanishing point ?
The small one in the back kinda reminds me of Eddy from Ed Edd n Eddy
