Anyone else started smiling when Boro found out about shape design? I knew he had issues with it, but now I'm just glad that he is crazy about them. I bet it's a major breaking point in your drawing quality, Boro.
Very much how I've felt watching the last few videos, so happy seeing an artist make a breakthrough that really improves their work. He seems so filled with Joy
Looking at the thumbnail I couldn't believe you actually painted that. I'm used to see your portraits a bit uncanny, no offense. But this one is just at a whole another level! It's like you fast forwarded 5 years of progress in 3 weeks.
I had this problem with my portraits too, but then I just shut up and listened to what skilled people said about portrait painting and bam! It's easy now. Focusing on shapes makes painting like billion times easier in a sense.
Damn it’s uncanny how every video you put out is aligned with what I’m exploring at the moment lol I’ve been rewatching Sinix’s videos on shape design and automatic drawing/tempo, and trying to apply that to painting. You have some pretty nice observations here!
Thanks boro, you're really an artist to keep an eye on in my opinion. Cant wait to see what you can do in 10 years. I would like to see you try abstract expressionism in a video.
I am taking a schoolism course by Craig Mullins and this is exactly all he teaches for like the first 2 lessons lol. I always knew how important is was before but just didnt really get it for painting, and between you and craig I think I understand it a lot better now, especially since you recently started understanding so you have a fresh perspective.
I’m so glad to have found this video. Shape design is something I’d never really considered but hearing and seeing your explanations has really helped me understand it’s importance- thank you!
When I started digital painting - with your advice - you were recommending some kind of triangular brush... long time ago. Amazing to see how your process changes and improves over time.
When I first saw the thumbnail I loved the portrait, then I loved it more seeing that it was you who made it ^^ I can never get enough of watching your videos!
I always found that Boro was having a bit of a hard time with shape design, but always liked the way he painted. Now that he learned shape design, he will surely ascend!
thanks for putting the effort in sharing this toughts with the community man,I was going trough a really similiar problem and was really refreshing to see your view on this topic.Loved that.
Perfect timing! Just started a new portrait 10 minutes before this video came out and I will be starting over and using the concept of "underlying gradient" and then adding the solid shapes that "deserve their own brush strokes" I was also messing around with making a new squished brush after mostly using a square one for a while. Very cool to get to learn as artists I respect learn.
I've been struggling a lot with shapes!!especially separating hard edges from the smoth ones. So this video came right on time! Thank you, Boro! It's always fantastic to watch your new videos and your progress as an artist 🖤
Great video!! I guess this is a topic that comes more natural to me. I tend to do portraits with limited brushwork. I get comments all the time about my limited but very well placed brush strokes and shapes to get the detail and emotion necessary. I think more in shapes and less in detail. Shape design is everything!! Great painting btw :)
I apreciate so much when someoane give me nice music to listen! Thank you so much! i m listening her albums right now and going to practice what you just told about shapes. I feel lil shamed eating so much good content for free, hope one day i ll pay the price.
I don't have that much of a problem with shape design (but I could do better ofc), but the underlying gradient idea is basically something I've been dancing around understanding for a while, this is eye-opening. Thanks!
Very helpful!! Thank you! n.n I love how you always learn from your mistakes and constantly improve and you teach us to do the same and be observant :D I learn a ton from your videos :3
I need that brush... and damn Boro. This is my ultra weakness. Confidence in shapes. I've been trying to do what other artists do-- fumbling with fuzzy shapes that later turn into defined shapes, kinda like Wlop. But I always fail, so I always resort to just creating a clean outline first and filling it in, which I don't want to continue doing as it feels like a crutch.
what if tablet doesn't work with tilt? Maybe there is some other solution in brush settings for that to maintain relatively same painting experience and control over brush shape?
Ok so I hear you, and I understand you, but why oh why can't i just follow your advice on my work. Lol, so often I'm like " yeah i should probably do it that way but let me try it this way. " just to end up wasting hours on trying to make something work that never will. Then in the end i submit and do it how it's supposed to be done. XD Man i'm infuriating myself. Thanks boro, once again you educate me!
This is really interesting!! Sinix Design has some videos about digital painting that also cover stuff similar to this sort of shape design you're talking about (just mentioning in case you/anyone who sees this comment would want to check those out)
Boro pleeeease a youtube vid tutorial on how to shade and paint the temporal bone/cheeckbone area from the fron and side, in different beautiful ppl pleaseee i struggle w this and it turns out similar in every person i draw from my head. Its like “same area sindrome” lol. Like same face syndrome if you know what I mean 😢
do you think with that gradient under approach it is possible to get a clean finished look? Because that seems to work best for a sketch. Like that case of the branches may be unique because the shape is not very distinct. What about a rough ground surface with sticks and dirt on top. Is it possible to apply the same approach?
Sinix Design explained something similar in his latest video for intermediate artists, so you might want to watch that to solidify your shape design breakthrough, which you've had recently. Especially check the part where he explains the underlying gradients in his little demo towards the end. Hope this helps you out, Boro! ✌👍 Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/9QEGEBK6nIY/v-deo.html
Thank you! Interesting video indeed, Sinix is amazing. I especially like seeing the underlying gradients in action, since I only recently talked about it for the first time in the "Composition = Shape Design= Brushwork" video, praising a piece made by a traditional artist. Literally haven't tried it yet lol
Wow! I have been watching videos about shape design but actually implementing it is quite challenging! You did so well applying your learnings into your study! It looks so alive and cool! I can't wait to see how your art will evolve from there 🤩 Something I would love to see you look into is adding more colours into your shadows. I would like to recommand this video from Sinix Design (ua-cam.com/video/ZJkIaMECW6c/v-deo.html) and this one from Marco Bucci (ua-cam.com/video/gwLQ0cDb4cE/v-deo.html). Also thank you for the flat brush tip, I think that will help a lot!

Bless that one student that helped you realize all this
My mentorship idea has helped me improve a ton so far :D

The portrait looks amazing. Feels like you upgraded a lot and cannot wait to see how you will develop this technique.
Thanks a ton!
Here again comes Borodante to show me the error of my ways, this is super useful, thank you.
Here again comes dez leading the comment gang

I just watched those videos yesterday! Its something I am *really* struggling with
Your will to self improvement in art is amazing

I've been struggling with shape design a lot lately and your point of view really pushed my understanding of it. Thanks for the vid

I couldn't be more thankful for this series of teaching vids you are making, really
This looks lovely!
You didn't only make a nice image but a really nice painting too
Very useful information!
I’ve been struggling the same way with my portraits. I’m so glad you talked about this. Excited to change my approach now!
I've been struggling a lot with shapes!!especially separating hard edges from the smoth ones.

beautiful model guy. And your illustration is just perfection.

I totally agree!
Just like John Singer Sargent, his work was "ugly" up close but just the right shapes of values for us to be able to read the picture
Congratz, really big improvement and I love this painting!

I followed you so long... You are a good guy, thanks for sharing it's so helpful..👍👍👍
Man!!!!this was soo helpful 👌👌
I know right. Even use same approach and its looks good🤩.
High quality content as always
the timing is so prefect i just left class
Me when the class is left 😎
Me too
This here is the only REAL class :D
Looking great. Looks like Raskolnikov for some reason.
You might want to look at the paintings Richard Schmid, his works thrive on this sort of mentality.
Plz, more content about shapes!

Ayy more informative boro rambles about new concepts
It kinda funny to see how you clearly had this enlightenment all of the sudden
I love how art makes some things feel like a whole new discovery, how eye-opening !
Awesome video! Just wondering what determines what a "cool shape" is? Is there reason behind it, or is it just an intuitive feeling?
Looks really good, Boro.
what if tablet doesn't work with tilt? Maybe there is some other solution in brush settings for that to maintain relatively same painting experience and control over brush shape?
the portrait looks like Dorian Gray. looks so good
Sinix will be proud
I love your vídeos. El de la foto se parece al vocalista de Zoe.

Боро, подскажите пожалуйста, как Вы так прокачали свой английский?) Очень нравится смотреть Ваши видео.

I'm very confident it'll work everywhere. Also, keep in mind that you can keep detailing as much as you want. This base will make it very easy
BoroCG please can you share that brush, i love it :D
how does he control the orientation of the brush?
Boro you should try HEAVYPAINT !!
Looks really cool, how much time did you spend on this portrait ? If it's not a secret of course
1 hour before recording my talk. And final detailing... I think it was within half an hour
Gasp
I have this shirt
We are besties now
damn where can I get this shirt
I... I just made a sketch of this dude too! 🤯 Yesterday! What an odd coincidence. I found him in Google graphics...
this song in the end gave me Portishead vibes
@BoroCG ad more Colors in! Human Face is never one Tone Color there are also blueish greens tones such as vibrant orange reds in it ;)
Not even mad when Boro makes me watch two ads before the video begins, you go ad revenue!
I thought this is what you were telling us to do when you were teaching us how to paint on a single layer a year or two back. Did I skip a step?
I wish my tablet allowed for pen rotation like that. So frustrating.
Sinix Design explained something similar in his latest video for intermediate artists, so you might want to watch that to solidify your shape design breakthrough, which you've had recently. the way boro's shirt says "without a dad" in portuguese...
It sucks that with basic tablets you can't rotate the brush easily when you maje shapes :/
Looks like sinix. Just me?
I thought that too
Have you seen the new cartoon trend in Instagram? I wonder what can you do to improve it.
Damn did I travel through time becos some one's art skills seam to have jumped in there quality
