    I know this is an older video, but I was wondering if your could provide new links to the bearings. The links in the description to the eBay listings aren’t valid anymore. Thanks!

    Maybe I missed something, but are the original Avet bearings sealed in different fashion? Avet has never bern my favorite, I sell them and end up buying them again out of sheer boredom in rainy Oregon.

    Boss i have a MXJ6/4. When i first open to clean it, i noticed that the drag washer is attached to the housing. Can it be replaced if ever its worn out already. Thanks.

    lubes. I continue to watch, I am becoming amazed. The reels come with plastic parts? Don't come with top quality stainless bearings? I was thinking about an Avet purchase, but no way now. Excellent video though
    Thanks.

      I'm afraid you're being wildly misled. "Plastic bearings"? This guy doesn't know the difference between a sealed bearing and a shielded bearing (look them up), and is most definitely not putting "thrust bearings" in this reel (look them up). And, ABEC-7 bearings are by no means necessarily more corrosion resistant, and are only advantageous in high RPM applications where tightest tolerances matter. And, moreover, shielded bearings (like he is putting in) are MORE prone to water ingress, NOT less, than sealed bearings are. And, it is not the side covers of a pinion bearing that get crushed by mis-using a lever drag reel (look it up). Temporarily remove the shields to fully grease-pack any bearings in problem areas, and ANY reel's ball bearings will hold up* (anti-reverse "bearings" are a different story... but, the Avets don't have them). *Unless you crush the pinion bearing itself (NOT its side covers!) (but, you can look up how to avoid mis-using any lever drag reel, to prevent that).

      @@bobh1208 I get what you're saying about the bearings, but the constant "look it up" kinda puzzles me. Look it up where? A bearing textbook?

      @@robertmceuen3630 That was just in case you didn't wanna take my word for any of that (and so I didn't have to long-windedly go into seals vs shields, and into the entirely impractical [to use in reels] price of aftermarket actual-thrust-bearings, and into fully grease packing bearings to prevent saltwater seizures, and, into how out-of-bounds side load on a normal radial pinion bearing will crush the balls against the side edges of the races' grooves... and, so on... but anyway... seems like the interwebs will tell you more lies when you didn't ask, than when you do... especially if one hones each question).

    What is the exact sizes of the bearings being replaced?

  • @robertmceuen3630
    @robertmceuen3630 Рік тому

    For what Avet reels cost- and bing made in USA it really pains me that they should have to be "upgraded". Should last 20 years if kept clean and lubed.

    None of those bearings are hard to remove. You can literally pop them right out. I cringed watching all the extra steps to remove bearings when you can just catch the inner edge from the opposite side of any bearing and push it right out. Most of them will fall out if you gently tap on a table
