If you’re a devoted follower of the Rig Rundown series, you’ve probably noticed our recent rash of thrash. We’ve featured nearly every corner of the genre-heavyweights Megadeth, torchbearers Anthrax, revivalists Municipal Waste, and, now, pioneers Exodus get their (re)visit. Their four-decade reign and 11 gnashing albums are brimming with sinister, trouncing, wood-splitting riffs and vividly vicious narratives. And the blade of this chainsaw collective is its longest-tenured member, fretboard flyer Gary Holt, whose last Rig Rundown appearance was in 2015.
During the afternoon of Exodus’ middle slot for the ongoing The Bay Strikes Back tour-featuring neighbors Testament and Death Angel-at Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl, Holt’s tech Steve Brogden invited PG’s Perry Bean onstage to catalog the thrasher’s setup. In this RR, Brogdon details the murderous axes, custom cabs, and more that Holt is packing into the trailer and onto the stage.

Great stuff! Steve is super cool... he also plays guitar in a really dope thrash band called Nukem. The other guitar player in that band is Gene Hoglan's wife, Laura Christine.

@@Klo296no.. Zakk chose not to use it.. one of the only things he is really using that dime did is a noise gate. He is using all of his gear and his amps Wylde Audio. That is why his tone sounds nothing like Dimes. Zakk sounds very muddy and doesn’t cut through the mix very well.

I saw Exodus live last night and Gary 's Marshall tone was huge and just crushing! Do we know what Lee Altus is using with Exodus right now? I saw he had Mesa 4x12's setup and had his ESP Snakebytes but I am not sure about his amp setup.

I always wanted an EC1000 and when i finally started looking for one i found the black and red gh600? And its one of my fav guitars. It feels good easy to play thin neck, couldnt be happier. Play it way more than my les paul, its just a super nice guitar straight out of the box very little set up and it looks killer black and red
really would have liked to have heard that rig in a demo style. Gary has such tight sound and a little surprised on the amp choice, but since they said a lot of it is coming from the pedal would've really liked to heard it. I know Gary has played Marshalls, Peaveys, ENGLs. Love his variety
Some recent exodus live footage would give you a good idea how it sounds in action if you can find one with good audio

@@RichardGarcia93 Yeah but he's authentic when he does it, he comes by it honestly so I don't let it bother me, but I know what you're saying. I mean it's because he's really into it, I have a hard time faulting him for it. John's still #1 but Perry is covering some really good ground, thought he should get some props. I love these run downs! :)

Notice lately a lot of guitarist are going back to basics !
Those that have the budget to cart around a shit load of heavy amps and cabinets that is. A lot of smaller acts still rely on Kempers or whatever just for the convenience, not to mention modellers have way better reliability.

Kempers sucked since day one, everyone trying to brainwash us to do the switch to digital. Nope! 😉. Analogue has always sounded best. In a very short while Kemper will = Line6.

those blocks dont make much of a difference to be honest
I put a brass block on a Floyd rose special on my Dean ml and does sound louder acoustically and has a lot more sustain and sounds brighter

Gary did it himself a few years ago, but he seemed a bit awkward and didnt know exactly what he was using, his tech had to help him explain a lot of the stuff, so I guess its for the better that his tech gives the rundown
