I've always loved the lore showing mankind's POV during the Collapse, and Last Days on Kraken Mare in particular is one of my favorite lore books. So nice to revisit it this way, with the added morsels we've gotten recently expertly woven into their proper context. It was so cool back then just understanding some vague concept of "The Darkness" and maybe the pyramid ships were arriving. I find it funny thinking that Rasputin used a warsat hitting a guardian as basically crumpling up some paper, throwing it at the head of someone to basically say "HAY! KNOCK IT OFF!"
Didn't realize that K1 and Titan stories connect with the Pells. Revelation and Last days on Kraken Mare are the best lore books in this game. They need to be stand alone animated features.
Stories like this is what I really hope they depict in any Destiny show they make. I’ve always said a show about the lore of destiny in the Arcane art style would pull so many people to the game
I bet that whatever Dr.Pell was working on will be the thing that lets us pass through the portal in the Traveler, and that Rasputin wanted the info deleted because it was the first proper discovery of paracausality from humanity, and knowing that we'd try n toy with it and fail miserably he decided that the best course of action was to simply annhilate it proper. Also the collapse reaching Titan at such a timing is either A) The Witness was also searching for that data and wanted to do the same thing as Rasputin or B) Simply a well timed coincidence. It also wouldn't surprise me if whatever it was while being paracausal it was neither of the light nor the darkness, but something in between, which would explain why it can interact with both at the portal without issues. Also the way it's discussed of kinda hints at it being a "movement system" of sorts, just not in the dimensions that we understand. We'll see!
A 16min video that had me really hooked right as it ended... and now a full length television show length episode today... mmm yes yes... good... gooooood!
One of my pet peeves with destiny content creators is the incorrect naming of celestial bodies, as of writing there's only 2 planets we can actually go to as locations with a third being used as a pseudo home for a made up construct of a throne world, everything else is either a moon or in the case of Nessus a fabricated location based on a real life object of the same name.
While we don't know the true nature of the anomaly found by the Pell probe, there is evidence to suggest it was a pyramid ship. When the Pyramids first arrived on Io, Asher took them to study, and his initial probe found a very similar result to the Pell probe: indecipherable readings, then suddenly nothing. Granted, Asher was smart and surmised his ideas on zero-point energy and temporal stasis, and we don't know if Shanice came to the same conclusion (or ever got the chance to, even). There isn't a ton of concrete evidence to support this, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility.
Also, Shanice Pell's data, that RASPUTIN sent Morgan-2 to obtain and suppress, seems pretty clearly to be telemetry on the "anomaly" (which I'm assuming to be a ship of the Black Fleet), obtained via the deep-space probe. And, when that telemetry slipped his grasp, he responded by assuming that it wasn't something that could fall into the wrong hands, and thereby condemned a planet to death.
What still sort of bakes my noodle is that _Last Days On Kraken Mare_ was released, not during a Titan season, nor a Rasputin season, nor even a Darkness season, whatever that looks like, but during Season of the Undying, of all places. Vex on Luna and in the Black Garden, that seems like the perfect place to release installments of a story taking place on Titan during the Collapse, with no Vex to be seen anywhere. At least the Ghosts of the Deep supplemental lore tabs were released in their proper context.
Could she have detected The Veil in Nez's ship coming towards the system with the rest of the Black Fleet? Red wiped part of his own mind to protect that secret.
@@radtacular2218Red also wiped his own memory banks to prevent knowledge of the exos lost on Neptune as they were effectively the last hope of humanity to live on. Blue Jay simply wiped all logs collected by Red's proves on Neomuna and disconnected the rest of the bunkers, which is why he was offline during the Last Array mission in D1. They effectively locked him on Earth, and we just so happened to break him out by mistake.
Could Dr. Pell have detected Nezarec's approaching pyramid? Or more precisely, the darkness artifact (ball) we found within during Shadowkeep? It's been awhile since i looked over this lore, but referencing the GOS intro, the darkness artifact transmitted to the Black Garden, which led to the raid.
This, in my opinion, is your most epic telling of Destiny lore! My guy! Your voice, your perspective, your story telling, it's what keeps me coming back for more! To put in my own 2 cents; Rasputin... I'm horrified to experience this act of his alongside the Witness and it's devastation upon Sol during the Collapse. Ultimately, this twister of chaos that was wraught upon Titan during the Collapse was a result of what precautions Rasputin had been programed to defend against. I don't blame Rasputin, but this is not the kind of hope for humanity's survival that one looks fondly back upon when hindsight is 20/20. Personally, I don't think Rasputin ever had to shoot down those shuttles. As easily as those Exo Seraph's made their way to Titan, those same forces could've easily chased after. If, for some God forsaken reason, this was not acceptable to Rasputin's defense parameters at the time, It's seems oddly unlikely that any information the Archology had discovered could compromise Humanity's/Rasputins' defenses in the event of "basically' total annihilation from the Witness and it's forces. Maybe we're missing a vital piece of info that would "justify" Rasputin's and his Seraph's actions on Titan just before it's demise, but again hindsight suggests Raputin had several more "humane' options given it's current circumstances. At least that's how I see it. Thanks again Byf for all you and your Channel do!
Rasputin dropping a Warsat right on top of a Titan to make them stop _punching_ the anomaly is absolutely hilarious. You know that Titan had a steady diet of crayons.
The line about us challenging the Traveller at its own game certainly feels like we were on the path the Witness's people were on ahead of the Traveller abandoning the Witness.
You know destiny is a philosophy game that has a new dlc coming out soon and i think i figured it out and it may be the same for this. The game has a wish dragon in it kind of like a god like loki or a leprechaun, the guardians, which is our players, us, made a wish to keep the last city safe. This wish dragon grants wishes and twists them. These beings are more powerful like on the scale of multiverses and connections and what i think happend is the wish was twisted in one of the craziest ways and made their reality into a game in our reality so that the last city is always safe but the wishes are more than just the last city, they are for reality itself because the darkness is being used by the witness, a being within their reality to cull their existence and bring the final shape. So in order to stop the end of their reality and from being ended maybe the gardener made the wish dragon and the pieces of reality (aka the wish dragon, savathun, guardians, etc.) turned it into a game so that it exists but in a different form allowing the wish to be granted and the winnower and its power of culling couldnt be used to truly end reality but allows it to persist no matter what, through all the variables like a multiverse. Maybe the reason we exist is because all the other things exist too but in a different form like a multiverse but beyond reality itself, persisting through variables like some mathematical formula that allows all but separated with connections.
Well midnight ex. Was in effect, so the data would be something to effect Rasputin's survivability directly imo. Maybe bunker locations, weaknesses, capabilities are all possible. OR the data had an ability to maliciously attack the warframe's code.
If Shanice Pell drone went missing during the deep space anomaly, could that anomaly have been similar to when Calus heard "the voice in the darkness" when he was drifting in space. Or could it ahve been similar to the number of times ships have disappeared and had an encounter with the Witness and also grew egragore on them. Idk i could be so wrong but I thought I should ask
So, with potential non-game destiny content on the horizon, am I the only one who hopes we'll get stuff directly related to the collapse? It's one thing to read about it, I want to see it. Also "I will realign you with my mission parameters" is a great line, and I'm using it at some point.
I don't get it. Why the hate on their writing? When you read the dialogue between Morgan and Mia, it gave me shivers. The evacuation ships being shot down and the way you narrate gave me shivers. The text is good enough to paint a picture in your head and have events take place in your own head like a movie.
I really have to marvel at the writing of the dialogue for these bits of lore. Bungie takes a really unique and far minded view on what humanity will be like in the future they envision for Destint and the way people talk in the golden age does a great job of illustrating how far removed from our current day they are.
This is the lore that makes me love Destiny. As for what the data included, I have no good idea. It could be on Neomuna but I doubt it. Maybe data on Ahsa, maybe some Clovis data.
My guess the data referenced the black fleet and the witness's arrival, its destination approximation based on telemetry and trajectory, and perhaps a sat scan of its potential capabilities based upon energy readings gleaned by recon warsats. In simple terms, information that would tell everyone that they were totally and utterly fucked.
It’s definitely a black hole in the anomaly map. Piercing interstellar space->warping space time. Massive and small->that size of black hole would be as massive as earth or smt. Maybe I’m just stoned
"Titan's citizens have grown up with game theory and applied community ethics…" ah ha, I see someone at Bungie has been reading their classic A.E. van Vogt.
A lil reversal of the line from Dead Space 2, "We're all gonna burn for what we did to you.", to regarding what happened to poor ol'Rasputin, "You're gonna burn for what you've done to us." 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿
A couple things: 1. Now that Rasputin is gone, can we crack open the anomaly and find out what's inside. 2. There has to be copies of Pell's data in the Warmind's data archives, so we should get Ana to look that up for us. and as for what Pell found out there? I think that Pell's data showed the Black Fleet, the Fallen Raiders, and the Cabal all headed towards us at once. and Rasputin 's plan was to turn Sol into a fortress to keep the invaders out. How would humanity have reacted if we knew for certain we were not completely alone in the universe, and the neighbors were coming to steal a cup of sugar and burn the house down with us inside?
The weird object of huge mass, could it be tied to The Veil which for some reason has no mass, or is that just a paracausal phenomenon because neato? Like someone displaced the physicality of it.
This is one of the Best Peices of Lore that I've Read/Listened to!! And it's a Shame that Lore of This Level is not Apparent to the General Playerbase & is stuck inside the peices of gear just like how it was in Grimoire Cards back in D1. Thanks Byf for this peice of Lore, for I would've never even bothered to even read it after all the Massive Dissapointment that Lightfall's Story was.
I just had a random thought that makes some sense about what could be inside the anomaly. What if the Anomaly itself is Nezarec's missing eye? It would explain the nightmare side of things. It just randomly hit me. Sorry if already proven wrong
if it's massive enough that it would destroy the moon if it wasn't floating, doesn't that mean it should be massive enough to have it's own gravitational pull
Listening through that, my primary thought was “Clovis made this, and thought it was fine” With all the straight up psychopathic shit that Clovis Bray has done, it’s a wonder that The Witness hasn’t hit him up with a Disciple invitation
He probably will. If you recall from the end of Season of the Seraph, Clovis sent a message after Red evicted him from the exo frame. Short, two words, sent to an unknown party: "They know."
@@GrayvesX he wouldn't need to say that if that was the case. If I recall correctly, the dialogue from the season states that the message was intercepted being sent by Clovis. So that to me means he was informing someone that the Guardians had figured out his plan.
I could be wrong about this, not 100% on exact timeline of events, but what if Rasputin was preventing the probe data from escaping Titan was due to protecting the location of Nefele Stronghold?
The irony to the initial Anomaly discussion is that in-game lore (D1's The Anomaly grimoire card) specifically indicates it is used as a Crucible combat arena BECAUSE the Vanguard is concerned about what's inside the dodecahedron, and because they're concerned that the Hive will find it and try to open it, so it's really convenient to have two-full Guardian fireteams on hand in the event that happens.

I find it funny thinking that Rasputin used a warsat hitting a guardian as basically crumpling up some paper, throwing it at the head of someone to basically say "HAY! KNOCK IT OFF!"
That piece from the New Pacific Epitaph, is beautiful... and bone chilling all at once.
It is 12.30am Australian Eastern Standard Time and Byf's voice is sending me to sleep - meant in a very loving way. Better than the sound of rain.
11:02 This sounds like ol' Nezzy was out and aboot on his daily stroll since wasn't the Lunar Pyramid his?
We'll see!
A 16min video that had me really hooked right as it ended... and now a full length television show length episode today... mmm yes yes... good... gooooood!
I'll admit my heart kinda got a bit heavy after reading some of the Dungeon weapon lore tabs...
The Greasy Luck tab makes me tear up every single time
One of my pet peeves with destiny content creators is the incorrect naming of celestial bodies, as of writing there's only 2 planets we can actually go to as locations with a third being used as a pseudo home for a made up construct of a throne world, everything else is either a moon or in the case of Nessus a fabricated location based on a real life object of the same name.
Pulling armor from years ago for lore now is peak awesome
Your narration is amazing, the sense of immersion is strong in this video
Metatrons Cube. Byf, please look at this and see the shape the ships took around the traveler and the veil.
Wow. So well done Byf. This pretty much sounds like a short TV series bungie could do.
Thank you for this series of videos, seriously.
Lore vore: binging Byf content because you missed a video or five...
Could she have detected The Veil in Nez's ship coming towards the system with the rest of the Black Fleet? Red wiped part of his own mind to protect that secret.
Wasn't it the Cloudstrider Chioma Esi sent back to Earth that wiped that part of Rasputin's memory?
@@radtacular2218Red also wiped his own memory banks to prevent knowledge of the exos lost on Neptune as they were effectively the last hope of humanity to live on. Blue Jay simply wiped all logs collected by Red's proves on Neomuna and disconnected the rest of the bunkers, which is why he was offline during the Last Array mission in D1. They effectively locked him on Earth, and we just so happened to break him out by mistake.
@@trial_with_an_error9687Stargazer is the one who did that.
Jesus, Byf. Your voice acting has gotten so damn good.
Could Nezarec have any power over the K1 Artifact? The team had nightmares and he has power over them
This, in my opinion, is your most epic telling of Destiny lore! My guy! Your voice, your perspective, your story telling, it's what keeps me coming back for more! To put in my own 2 cents;
Rasputin...
Today is my birthday and im listening to byf spout destiny lore
It is a good day
Happy birthday!
I hope to obtain the level of inner peace Nadia Jahandar had in her final moments someday.
Rasputin dropping a Warsat right on top of a Titan to make them stop _punching_ the anomaly is absolutely hilarious. You know that Titan had a steady diet of crayons.
Its gotta be that Rasputin knew about the veil from pell finding it and classified it as threat level 69420
The thought of Rasputing dropping a warmind on a titan for punching the artifact is hilarious and should be a cutscene 😂
The line about us challenging the Traveller at its own game certainly feels like we were on the path the Witness's people were on ahead of the Traveller abandoning the Witness.
Something that could lead to Neptune?
Thanks for the story
Love the Lost Pacific set, best OG D2 set hands down
You know destiny is a philosophy game that has a new dlc coming out soon and i think i figured it out and it may be the same for this.
My favorite story that you have told. Thanks
This is shadowkeep lore.
Byf, that was so good!
I'm glad you came back to K1 and the anomaly. I wonder what papa bray used to get clarity... Maybe someone also tricked him, who knows.
What a wonderful lore book and story to tell, amazing
I really have to marvel at the writing of the dialogue for these bits of lore. Bungie takes a really unique and far minded view on what humanity will be like in the future they envision for Destint and the way people talk in the golden age does a great job of illustrating how far removed from our current day they are.
I wonder if there is any connection between the tidal wave and the supermassive anomaly
Dr. Pell found Rasputin’s search history 🤣💀
It’s definitely a black hole in the anomaly map. Piercing interstellar space->warping space time. Massive and small->that size of black hole would be as massive as earth or smt. Maybe I’m just stoned
When the lore is better than the playable story is sad. Even if this was just a video it shoulda been in the game.
"Titan's citizens have grown up with game theory and applied community ethics…" ah ha, I see someone at Bungie has been reading their classic A.E. van Vogt.
A lil reversal of the line from Dead Space 2, "We're all gonna burn for what we did to you.", to regarding what happened to poor ol'Rasputin, "You're gonna burn for what you've done to us." 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿
I love these long videos.
What knowledge was so dangerous that Rasputin would indiscriminently destroy every evac shuttle?
Maybe it was just finding a way to use the Anomaly at all. Fair if it isn't the reason but tragic if it was.
The writing in this also reminds me that I've never understood why they have never published any novels for Destiny.
But what about the Skrank Gang's adventures on Titan and the destruction they brought that no one survived?
But isn't that anomaly artifact connected in someway to the veil?
I just had a random thought that makes some sense about what could be inside the anomaly. What if the Anomaly itself is Nezarec's missing eye? It would explain the nightmare side of things. It just randomly hit me. Sorry if already proven wrong
if it's massive enough that it would destroy the moon if it wasn't floating, doesn't that mean it should be massive enough to have it's own gravitational pull
This one goes hard.
Listening through that, my primary thought was “Clovis made this, and thought it was fine”
With all the straight up psychopathic shit that Clovis Bray has done, it’s a wonder that The Witness hasn’t hit him up with a Disciple invitation
He probably will. If you recall from the end of Season of the Seraph, Clovis sent a message after Red evicted him from the exo frame. Short, two words, sent to an unknown party:
"They know."
@crazytalk8120 that was to his core self no? And I think the message was that we know that he wants to take over the warsats and become a God himself
@@GrayvesX he wouldn't need to say that if that was the case. If I recall correctly, the dialogue from the season states that the message was intercepted being sent by Clovis. So that to me means he was informing someone that the Guardians had figured out his plan.
@@crazytalk8120 Yep, sent by Clovis (copy) to main Clovis (big head on europa)
@@ien832yep, that's how it was.
I could be wrong about this, not 100% on exact timeline of events, but what if Rasputin was preventing the probe data from escaping Titan was due to protecting the location of Nefele Stronghold?
The data was on the anomaly, it was likely the Veil, as we know that the Witness was looking for it.
