Amazing work! I am pleasently surprised that finally someone adresses the fact that the Traveller helped humans have their life spawn tripled... making sure that a Golden Age would occur. It's a small thing to be mentioned, but it gives allot of understanding why species thrived under the Traveller. Longer life spawns = More technology progress
It really made me angry I cant play red war or forsaken anymore tbh. Would help add context to past events for new lights. (Also, fuck them for removing dlc I paid for)
The fact that you've condensed 10 years of story in easily digestible video in under 45 minutes is a massive feat. This is probably the best recap video for guardians like me who've been on a break from the game.
I've been looking for something like this for so long. So many other "story of Destiny" videos cover things either chronologically in-universe, or some other format like covering one faction at a time, etc. But IMO this approach looking at the actual content releases makes way more sense for players just trying to understand where we are and how we got here. Thank you!!!
Couple of quick notes: 1. Clovis Bray is Elsie's and Ana's grandfather, not father. 2. Ahsa is a proto worm God; aka what the worm Gods used to be before the Witness found them. 3. The civilization that preceded the Witness was not in agreement about what the Final Shape actually was; they only combined after the violence that followed the Traveller's departure. 4. We don't know if the Traveller and the Witness have anything to do with the Gardener and the Winnower. Specifically the Winnower is confirmed to NOT be the Witness. Otherwise, great video! Its hard summarizing such a vast and complicated story so having something condensed down to only 40 min is great.
I first started playing D2 during Season of the Drifter. Now I get it. This story is incredibly deep and complex. My man just illuminated us all in under 45 mins where there are some videos that are 11hrs deep. Well done.

This video needs more exposure. It needs to be posted and pinned on every Destiny social media platforms. When you take a step back and look how far we've come, it's so beautiful. And the winding path is still ahead of us and as Guardians we must walk that path till the very end.

This video has helped me so much. I've always just jumped into Destiny here and there, get frustrated by the game just throwing you into random stories/expansions and just giving no context to anything. Being able to finally put a face to some names the game throws at you is so helpful lol

one error i would like to point out is the traveler didnt actually choose to stay and protect humanity, Rasputin forced it to stay/ delayed its departure, long enough to were it was forced to fight. although the lore on that is pretty old and is mostly left over from destiny's originally planned story of the traveler not being a completely benevolent being, so take it as you will

I stopped playing Destiny for quite a while after Forsaken. Began playing again due to the expansions being on PS Plus but i felt totally lost with regards to storyline. This video is exactly what i needed. Excellent work..Thank you!

I need to say thank you for all the time and effort put into this excellently made video. I haven't played since the witch queen dlc but I enjoyed every minute of playing it. I was completely lost because I had no idea how to follow such a vast storyline. I wasn't even around to play the first game, I am truly a noob, but thanks to this video I now want to play again. I want to be part of the story and finish the fight against light and darkness.
Gotta be honest, I played a bit of Destiny 1 and also tried to get into Destiny 2 here and there. (Before it got f2p and trying to return multiple times afterwards) Destiny 2 always interested me, but I never really got the hang of it and quite frankly was absolutely overwhelmed by it. When I last gave it a shot - and thanks to one of your videos I learned the systems - I was demotivated after finding out that stories where vaulted and I wasn't able to play everything. Now with Final Shape I decided to take another look, because the Witness really caught my interest. Watching this video now made me sad for all the amazing story parts that I missed, but also really motivated me to keep going now and finally get into the game for real. Thank you very much!
I love this game, but my god the plots are all like: Gertrude, Daughter of the Infinite Cosmos and half-sister to Zoloft the Wretched has hatched a plot to steal the traveler’s aura with the use of BDE, a lost science of the Vex. Using the wumbo ray, we must save humanity from darkness because LIGHT! … also Gertrude will still be alive in a different timeline throne world multiverse so we can do another expansion in two years.
Great summary. Obviously there are so many details woven into this intricate story. But in 40 minutes, you definitely captured the absolute essence and key event that lead to this final shape. As a veteran gamer, I appreciate the scope and breadth of Destiny. There have been ups and downs. There’s been good and bad. But as a whole, it has been 10 epic years. This is a great tribute video.
Great work covering this for us new lights that are missing 75% of the story. Only campaigns left were the ones were you acquire the darkness subclasses. And some cut scenes.
Thank you so much for this summary! I played D2 from the beginning, and then left after the Curse of Osiris due to burnout. I came back again in Beyond Light, and while I had played through Shadowkeep and everything else I could at the time, I was definitely lost story/lore-wise. This video helped me consolidate all the things I knew and didn't, and now I've got a better idea of what it is we'd been up to this whole time. I mean, I did lots and lots of pew pew and grinding, but things were disjointed. Kudos, job well done!

This is a great recap for Destiny players, but there are definitely parts where I felt like if I was a complete newbie and had no idea what the story was, I'd still be lost. I'd be mostly asking WHY these things happened, and who all these people were beyond brief introductions. I hope the longer version goes on tangents to explain them in greater detail, and also the gameplay and locations a bit.
This video is a great summary of the story. But man seeing the old D2 clips makes me realize how big of an improvement the lighting engine upgrade was. Yes the changes are subtle but when added together it looks like a much more beautiful game.

A 10 hour video came out and it’s the only video you need too see ppl been making short versions ever since the long one dropped and the 10 hour video all though long is better then any video you will see about the history and told way better watch it in parts or like me I watched the whole thing while I was playing destiny on a day off worth it
Usually do not comment but really really appreciate the effort that must have gone into this, I followed destiny till about year 6 so very nice to get a good summary. The only question I still really have and have never worked out, what are the vex and where do they fit in? They just seem to be, and I get they have time travel shenanigans but I am still confused, who made them etc. etc. etc. Have I missed this?
This feels like a stitched together bundle of words taken from in game cutscenes and descriptions. A lot of context is missing for things. Not even a sentence about what a Guardian is or what the Last City is before you talk about meeting the Vanguard in D1. I guess I sort of understand if you’re sticking strict to gameplay events but this doesn’t actually help tell the story of Destiny very well if it’s just a synopsis of missions.

God... 19 year old me who grew up playing Halo had such high hopes for this game. I think they made something beautiful here. Not quite Halo levels but dang close and im proud of Bungie its been a wild 10 years. Thanks for making this game so fun fellow Guardians 💜
I think Destiny lore is much better and deeper than Halo. It just is a greater universe in terms of complexity. Halo is more basic though has a human component that is quite unique

This video is amazing and covers everything a i wanted to know as a player who joined in beyond light and never understood some things in game. However i still have a question. What are the vex exactly? are they connected to the traveler or simply a race of sentient robots?
