Didn't know you still had that project. I vacillate between wanting to build a bare-bones hot rod and building another air-cooled VW. Probably why my Vanagon just sits collecting dead leaves, I prefer that VW's don't have radiators.
Also, my personal take on RWB, people are just hating to hate. He's just doing what his clients asked them to do. The way he can just rawdog his way through a fender cut and have it be anywhere as clean as he does it is wild. The tow hook thing, I get it. That was janky. But the owner asked him to lol. The cars are sick, and I hope he keeps at it for as long as he's happy to be doing so. Love seeing them, such an unmatched presence on the road or track.
The "out-take" at the end, scotto im all for it! It might be the nostalgia but god damn it was nice to see Vin and Scotto together again, now we just need to get Vin on the kobota at the farm hahaha
The rare Scotto triple-flex; 911 running, LAND ROVER running, and stuck the landing with a car-community meme burn with the tow hooks on RWBs. Take notes kids, this is how legends play ball.
The real flex was him openly speaking about coping and facing loss on the tst podcast. Some of the standards and values you guys judge quality and life by blow my mind. Hearing someone open up and express they’ve never been forced to face loss and confront their emotional struggles was actually inspiring and humbling to hear, Not so much “ wow bros cars run “ Admitting he lost so much not only through the bankruptcy of the business, but in life itself and in loss and then not only rising to meet the challenge, putting the effort forth through the struggle and depression, redefining his goals and lifestyle, and being proactive in his own well being were what really struck me - but we all measure things to our own degrees
@trdpro2grfks I am glad Scotto has the presence he does. I listened to the podcast yesterday. Over the last few years and the way he talks I realized his mind works similar to mine. Hearing him talk reminds me that I'm not alone in things. And that's the crazy part, a lot of us will struggle and never let on to anyone. Had a major hit years ago and I said the same thing. I'll deal with it when I have time. It messed me up for a long time because there was never time to deal with it.
@@trdpro2grfksit’s not always that deep, not all humans have the ability. Suffering loss can be the catalyst that sadly opens the eyes. I did also appreciate him opening up, social media’s 90% flexing. Stay blessed, stay hydrated.
I think this video has done the best job of reestablishing what RWD was and is to this day. The grassroots it truly had. It was so cool to see the old clips, magazines, and photos from the 2010s it's truly insane that these guys were a part of the movement before it even was a movement. It's so cool, just so cool.
Ending on Scotto saying, “I wish this was a joke” was absolutely perfect. I feel like he really just wants to rub it in that there wasn’t a “1” in front of $35k with how many times he mentioned it. Lol. That Magnus Walker tax hit pretty quick shortly after he got his, then 2020 really blew them out of most people’s achievable price range. Also, flying to Japan to hang out with Nakai San and photographing those cars being fresh out of college is wild. What an incredible opportunity. Thanks for another quality and unsuspecting upload, Vin!
The episodes that have any of the bros are always my fav. Doesnt matter what you’re doing. The banter and chemistry between you guys are unrivaled. Brings me back to the good old days. More of this please.
Im a 993 owner, and I feel the same way. The 993 rwb looks very bad. The 964 rwb looks better imo but they are all ugly in my book. I think so many getting cut up is the reason air cooled prices are so high.

These guys are why I fell in love with Hoonigan. I don't care if the Hoonigan name is attached or not i just wanna see the OG crew doing shit. Welcome back to youtube Scotto.
Huge fan of RWB and although I love the super high detailed builds of today, I really love the raw mechanical appearance and finish of the older RWB cars. The price of Porsches these days really make it difficult to cut one up. I also love the raw interiors of Magnus's Porsches which are also race cars on the weekend and daily drivers during the week type cars. Thanks for covering this, Vin!
So good to see you guys together on screen again. Scotto is a legend. RWB is everything I want in a sports car. It's a solid kick in the shin of all the precious boutique "car guys".
Probs my fav episode to date, reminded me about being creative and the magazine Era I used to love living in and the way they gave me inspiration to try new shit.. epic
Such a great video and SO good seeing Scotto back on camera. His RWB might be my favorite one! It's crazy how the internet has gone bonkers over those cars in the last couple of months. They're sick! They ARE punk rock! And they definitely have a place in automotive culture!
What an absolutely amazing way to depict the whole situation. Vinny, please keep up this amazing work. I know it’s not easy but for such a new channel. I cannot believe how much better. This is in anything on the Internet right now. I’m listening and somewhat watching this while out on a rainy walk in crummy New York. Bern, Scotto excellent.
It’s not silicone or caulk- it’s urethane body panel adhesive, so it’s a permanent application and shouldn’t be a surprise it’s held up. Your windshields are held in by the same stuff.
I was definitely riding the RWB hate train for the glued on tow hook but it's nice to take a trip back in time and get the whole perspective on the brand as a whole
Ken's WRC fiesta, Hert's Twerkstallion, and Scotto's RWB will always be synonymous with OG hoonigan IMO. Just like RWB, that rough around the edges, motorsport feel is what made people fall in love with the company
I was contributing to Jalopnik around 2010(ish), and I remember seeing these cars once or twice on that site (and Japanese Bōsōzoku coverage in general). Scotto saying that nobody knew about RWB in 2010 is a gross misstatement., I had a slammed mazda 323 at the time and seriously considered the cut-up fender flare route to get that tucked look with sportier tires after seeing one of these all tarted up.
I started reading Jalopnik around that time. Miata driving under the truck and the follow-up penance, the internet finding Torches bug, OG COTD, etc. Those were the days
I’ll admit I gave into the criticism of building a car with construction supplies but Scotto has a very good point. Nakai built them to be street-able race cars and hasn’t stopped doing that, regardless of the car owner’s intentions. Great episode! Keep it coming!
This content is sooooo dope! No gimmicks. This is car guy stuff! What’s odd, but great, is the fact that RWB discussion is nothing like Porsche discussion, but it’s still a Porsche. Well, mostly. That’s not a slight in any way. Just a reference to the culture. Which is well represented in this piece. Again, great stuff!!
Scotto's 964 is the first RWB I ever saw in person in 2012 at FD Long Beach, I was obsessed with it. The original cars he did for clients in Japan, especially the metal flare cars, are some of the coolest 911s out there. Phil from Driftworks has a 964 Turbo example, it is absolutely mint and performance oriented. And in general the OG RWB projects from over a decade ago in Japan were always exceedingly cool because they were actual race cars! My interest sort of waned when it came stateside. Beautiful cars but sort of diluted from the original racing purity/rawness they had. Shout out to Mark Arcenal for being the first exclusive RWB dealer in the states, I think Nakai got great exposure from that. But the spirit of the product did change from race car to show car at that point. Not Nakai's fault. But as 911s became more precious in recent years, RWB just became show cars instead.
You are killing the ability to have a massive variety of content that is all entertaining. I love the "rawness" of it, production value is high, but it's so approachable. It genuinely feels like just hanging with the guys and one of them has a shit ton of phenomenal stories.
All the boys need to come back together like they did on top gear and just do another thing like Grand tour Miss you guys all together and if you were all together you would be dominating and destroying just like you were Love all you guys separately though and will keep watching Miss the crew
So good to see Scotto! So the end cracks me up! The Diesel runs! 27 cars I have to finish! lol I have 6 or 8 cars and people give me crap! Good to see you are still around Scotto!!
I'm finally glad you got to make a video with Scotto, hope you get to bring him on in another video, maybe y'all can cruise in your 360s together! As for the RWB topic I have no hate for Nakai-san and what he does, at the end of the day he's getting to do what he loves and his clients just kind-of steer him into a direction they want. But as Scotto said as you do more and more of the same thing over and over, seemingly trying to one up the other one it starts to lose it's charm. That's why I love Scotto's RWB so much because it was made during a time before social media was a factor and it was just made out of cool vibes. Also it's functional and can go on the track! Can't say the same for a lot of the more-recent RWBs
This was a heavy informative video, yet, it didn't come off that way at all. It was intriguing and kept your attention, from Alex giving you the background and context when he visited Japan, to Scotto driving home what RWB is. I know Scotto knows shit, but this really drove home that he knows so much more than what I thought he know. Scott is in person who he is on the screen, super cool cat.

Loved this first car, I remember having this car as my desktop background for a long time, and it actually inspired my current long term project. I think when it comes to clowning RWB, which I have done plenty, it is because of the builds you mention late in the video, the very slick builds with air tanks blocking glued on tow hooks (as Brian indicated). What I learned from the video was to remember the R in RWB. Yes, it's Rough. It's race track aesthetic, and it's punk rock on a brand that was completely stuffy before RWB and Magnus made it cool to a new generation. Thanks for very well done video! PS I'm 6'6" and good to know there's another person out there taller than me driving vintage 911s! Yes, I also cut my sunroof out. :-D
Never really understood how big the Hoonigan boys were. Vin towers over most people in his vids and here has to look UP at Scotto's big ass. Kinda dope seeing them back on screen! Loving this channel and will check out Brian's stuff too. Thanks Vin.
SCUMBAG #43 HERE FOR IT... AND ITS ABOUT TIME BRIAN....DAMN WE MISSED YOU AND AFTER FARRAS POD I FEEL A NEW HOON TYPE VENTURE WITH ALL DA BOYS!!!!!! 🇺🇲💯👍
Yooooo this video great! First of all I do like the Garage setup that Alex did, just like heaven to me visually can't imagine to have it as mine. and the second is while the duration playing I imagine that you (Vin and Tsunami) came to Alex first and then went to Brian's house but you cut the Appearance of Brian first so us(Viewers) can hook with the rest. and so I am dying to watch you drive Brian's RWB. Great support by the way for RWB!
I remember, in the early 2000's, stumbling upon RWB on an obscure japanese web site before the porsche became the center of attention. His style has always been kind of a "I'm gonna do what I want". In the age of flashy, colorful styling of the early 2000's, he was rocking Flat black and rough around the edges, whether it was his Ae86, S15, or eventually the Stella Artois Porsche. They were never meant to be "Concourse" level builds like Singer and the like. The way I look at it is he's taking a car that is, more often than not, associated with business suits, fine wine, and classical music and making it ripped jeans, rock and roll, beer and cigarettes. If fashion brands can sell pre-ripped and torn jeans to idiots for a premium, no reason Nakai can't do the same. If I had the money and a beat up Porsche 964 I'd do it.
So… anyone wanna talk about Rail Car?
Hahahaha I do!
De we ever
This gives me all the feels, big fan since episode one “I was there man” LOL thank you Vin, thank you Brian❤

Never really understood how big the Hoonigan boys were. Vin towers over most people in his vids and here has to look UP at Scotto's big ass. Kinda dope seeing them back on screen! Loving this channel and will check out Brian's stuff too. Thanks Vin.
I was fortunate enough to see Scotto's car driving on the 405 back in 2017!!
Scotto!!!! Good to see you back brother! Good content as always Vinsanity and seeing you and Scotty together again
SCUMBAG #43 HERE FOR IT... AND ITS ABOUT TIME BRIAN....DAMN WE MISSED YOU AND AFTER FARRAS POD I FEEL A NEW HOON TYPE VENTURE WITH ALL DA BOYS!!!!!! 🇺🇲💯👍
ADDS WITH CHAMP!!! LET"S GOOOO!! Haha love it! And Love seeing Scotto too!!
Yoooo so glad this video is out! Scotto mentioned this vid on his 3hr podcast episode on The Smoking Tire. Awesome to see Scotto back.
Seeing scotto back on camera makes me realize how much he is hoonigan. Like the official narrator we got used to hearing
❤
Just imaging a full length ASMR Car build. no talking or titles, just building.
Do you know scotto? Or me? No talking? Hahaha
@vin_tra good point lol but he did mention a silent film
Vin and Scotto just talking cars. I'm all for it.
If you open your garage and an RS2 and a RWB stare at you life is good.
What up Scotto!
Back to the vid
Didn't kno I needed this so bad good see u Brian back we all miss u
This car and the illest one are 🔥
Perfect synopsis on RWB
Yooooo this video great! First of all I do like the Garage setup that Alex did, just like heaven to me visually can't imagine to have it as mine. and the second is while the duration playing I imagine that you (Vin and Tsunami) came to Alex first and then went to Brian's house but you cut the Appearance of Brian first so us(Viewers) can hook with the rest. and so I am dying to watch you drive Brian's RWB.
Great support by the way for RWB!
Such a cool Video, nice to see Scotto again. and get to hear that 965 Roar
How did I never know Scotto has an rwb? What a sick ride! Thanks for the vid vin!
First! Also great to see Scotto again!
Welcome back, Scotto! This is the best part of the day so far.
RWB is the GOAT and will be insane collectibles 20+ years from now when gen Z has money
Excellent video. Good to see Scotto. The youngins need this knowledge.
I’m just saying that I’m liking these videos before I even watch them. the consistency the content…. Fire!!! keep it up
5:46 bravo Scotto 👏🏾
6:01 that "brb" cut 😂
