Great video Vin, I hope you keep doing these review series, they have all been fun to watch. I'm on my 3rd ownership of a daily driven C5Z, current one is 434rwhp and is about all I need for daily driven fun. I also had a 707rwhp C6ZR1, and the issue I had with the ZR1 was the same as yours. It hooked up and put down all the power and drove great, but for a daily/street car it was like 1 gear blast and done. It just was not as fun unless you drove felony speeds. I have a special place for C5Z because my dad, and they are really great drivers but you have to deal with the late 2000s chevy tahoe interior for sure.
So I'm Scotto's age... I have kept most of the 1/64 Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. I've pruned them down over the years, but one thing I noticed is that I kept almost 20 C4 Corvettes... I keep coming back to C4 Corvettes as a future car for me. It was the "cool car" of childhood. A ZR-1 would be awesome, but any of the final 6 speed ones would be a dream car.

A friend of mine had a base C5, a C6 Z06, and a C6 ZR1. I absolutely loved the ZR1 and the power/weight, gearing, and overall powertrain feel reminded me of the 05 Ford GT and the 13-14 GT500. Long gearing, incredible midrange torque from the blower, and just a joy to drive.
Gransport is nice to boost, decent bottom end. Zr1 is also nice stock, makes decent power for what it is. The grandsport has a steel frame unlike the z06 which is aluminum. I enjoyed my c6z. Had rpm do ported and milled heads, cam and intake the car put down 603 on pump gas. I drove it across the country a few times and had a blast. The z06 needs to have heads fixed from the factory apart from that they are phenomenal. However if you're building one for power I would do a grandsport. Just my thoughts
Vin, i don't know if I've mentioned it before but your ability to shift gears is top notch. No matter what car you're in and what equipment is bolted on, you hit those shifts perfect. I imagine you could float gears if you wanted to. I've tried helping Damon on DDE a few years ago writing in the comments but he still struggles a bit. Thanks for continuing to make the great content👍 glad to see your merch is selling, it's a great way to support your channel.
I gotta tell you I have a c6 base with 400 hp and it’s a convertible. I just bought it. The convertible factor is just amazing. It gets sooooo much attention. It’s a working man’s car so everyone likes it. It looks amazing and really much better in person than in pics and looks more classic than the beefier zo6. I like the wide rear body of the z06 but there’s something more classic about the base that I think will age better. Mine came with a coursa exhaust and I can put a super charger on it for $6000 that gives me 550-600 hp. Mine was a 1 owner and is 6 speed manual with a heads up display. Being a year 1 (2005) it has power seats on both sides and is very very comfortable inside. Also the 2005 has the best steering wheel. I paid $19,500 with 74,000 miles, one owner and it does zero to 60 in 4.1 seconds. The corsa exhaust is amazing. It sounds like perfection Add to that if I choose to add the wide body quarters of the “upgraded models” I can simply buy those and bolt them on easy. After owning this I would not buy a non convertible. You can literally drive around with the top down in 40 degree weather as the heater is made for that and it keeps you warm. Also, I have a manual top, but if it storms and you are on the road the aerodynamics are such that it won’t rain inside! It’s wild. Unless you hit traffic 😅I also have dual heated seats. It’s fuckin awesome and it gets you in a man’s car. Sure Tesla performances are faster but almost everyone out there respects the corvette much more and thinks the teslas are gay. So sometimes you get a kid driving his moms Tesla trying to race you in the highway and you can just yawnnnnnn at them it’s funny 😂. I just saw your ratings…. Totally off on the base corvette. This thing handles like a dream. And mine came stock with mag magnetic shocks. Toss that $6000 super charger on the base corvette and you have the zr1. So with 550 hp plus the robust ls2 with the amazing handing you can just toss the rear wide body kit on and all corvettes lower the same with the built in lowering adjustment pads.

What I love with the Chevys Corvettes is the fact that you can't hear the blower I had a C6 Z06 and now I have a C7 Z06 I absolutely love both cars I'm actually going to buy a C6 ZR1 so I have one of each I love both Generations so much

While the C6 Grandsport is awesome, its not quite the same as the C6 Z06. The C6Z is special, the LS7 (although a problematic race engine) is incredible. You should definitely drive and review one if you can.
Not sure I’d ever buy a C6 but damn I smiled all through this video really miss watching the old gang at Hoonigan together! Please do more videos together

Love my C6 Grand Sport. Came with performance exhaust and feels special every time I drive it. Something about the look of this generation that made it my dream car.
I'm really enjoying both your channel content and this new Worth It series...and am excited for the next episodes to see what you have in store for us. As a nearly life-long import fanatic who took a short break to own a C5 Z06 along the way, I do feel qualified to add some additional words here. Before I owned a C5 Z06 I was mostly down on domestic performance although begrudgingly gave them credit for some things. However, after owning a C5 Z06 I really had to give GM some serious credit for what they built as it actually combined most of what I loved about import cars with an engine that was just to die for. There is a reason that LS series V8s find their way into practically everything...I think they are pound for pound the greatest engine family of all time. I say this with respect to my roots as a multiple time former Toyota Supra Turbo owner and as a current 997.1 Porsche 911 GT2 and 997.2 GT3 RS owner. The LS engine offers something for everyone, and is so flexible as to be ridiculous in what you can build it up for. The Corvette C6 generation raised the game pretty well from the C5 but as Vin rightly pointed out...the interiors look better than the C5 generation about don't feel any different. I passed on a C6 Z06 and bought my first Porsche 911 (996.2) Turbo as a result of that crap-tastic hard plastic interior, choosing a 2001 911 Turbo 6MT that I happily owned for over 4 years. What I will say is that the premium interior options on C6 Corvettes with the full leather dash changes the equation mightily, and now that I sell cars for a living and have access to them I can see there is plenty of good in Corvettes that I originally missed (even as a former owner). One thing I really want to tell all of you is that if you love import cars but are willing to give the Corvette a try, the one I personally recommend is the C7 Z51 7MT. This particular spec offers nearly no downside other than my eternal disdain for the tail light design since all Corvettes should always have round tail lights. However, the interior in the C7 is a fantastic place to be, and the materials used are WAY ABOVE anything in previous generations. At one point I even owned a C7 ZR1 (as dealer inventory) and can tell you all with a straight face that it's one of the most badass machines I've ever driven at any price point. There are really no good deals on those, but the C7 Z51 7MT is an incredibly good car that almost makes you give up nothing coming from the world of imports. Many of my fellow import owning friends have flocked to those after giving up on multi-year import builds that never ends and I haven't heard too many gripes. I'll leave the C8 Corvette generation as a topic for another time and another one of Vin's videos, but thus far I'm just not a fan. Thanks again for some excellent content on your channel man.
Now this is the review I've been waiting for! Also hit the nail on the head with being REALLY hard to build a drivable 650hp car in your garage, I built a 650hp NA truck, I have to manually column shift the automatic to avoid unintentional upshift burnouts in traffic, bad combination of trans controller, torque converter etc, fun? Yes. white knuckle driving every second? also yes
Down the road when you do a WRX STi episode, I hope you do give some love to the NA Imprezas too. As a broke ballast boy with an 05 RS that isn't fast but having it manual makes up for it to have some "fast" fun in a slow car.
This is a good series as the 997 video. it gives a good primer for different trim levels outside of “this comes with chrome delete” like that was a thing.
Quick note on the C4 ZR-1. Its not exactly the fastest car nowadays but it has a special quality to it. The LT-5 engine revs high and pulls way harder than its rated HP. Aswell its the kind of car you buy for the story that surround the car and i guess the 90's performance. I say that because i own a 95 ZR-1 and it rocks for what it is. Now if your goal is best of the best Corvette hands down any C6 or C5 is a better choice performance wise. You cant beat the value just buy one!
I'm also a 95 ZR-1 owner and couldn't agree more. For it's day the c4 ZR-1 was one of the fastest cars money could buy. It was a legend and it punched way above it's weight. Even to this day it's no slouch. Mine is stock and from a highway roll It's dead even with my buddies c5 Z06. Unfortunately the c4 ZR-1 is a great and special car that doesn't get the respect it deserves. For overall outright performance you can't beat a c5 or c6 for the $. I also have a c6 Z06 in the garage, but I grab the c4 keys more...
Great video! Couple of things for what they're worth: - I hope you keep on making this series as I'm finding it very interesting and fun! - I like the length of your videos and the amount of content and information really works, for what I like. - Great to see you include others from Hoonigan and Zac and Ron are always fun to watch. - Small thing, but I like that you got rid of that janky white board, and I think it's fun you including your dog. Lastly, I'm biased since I have an STI, but that'd be a pretty "easy" comparison to do, Impreza: 2.5 RS, WRX, and STI. And if you have the option - GD (05-07)... Thanks for making these vids Vin!
Thanks man. Most of the folks from hoonigan will be my life long friends. The ones that left… Yeah I need to invest more into things for scoring and such. I’m just a cheapass that makes due with what I have
No Vin chill on showing people how sick the Vette market is right now compared to other used sports cars!!!! I still have a year before I graduate college and can afford one! I don’t want to pay 50k for a z06 I want to pay 40k or less for one with less than 40,000 miles on it! All jokes aside the c6 is such a sick car right now for the money. It’s really hard for me to think of any other used car with comparable performance out of the gate for the same amount of money? First gen mustang GT350 I guess but even those don’t handle like the Vette does. I can’t wait to pick up a C6 z06 I can take to auto cross days and rip it down canyon roads!!!
This was great video bud. Informative, well put together, decent music and good videography. Anyone who thinks this isn’t journalism can suck it. Keep rocking dude 🤘
I own a 2013 60th Anniversary Grand Sport Coupe and love everything about the C6. The lines and the curves are just right. I am planning to keep it the way it was born.
I just got my base c6. 2008 Auto... BUT its a FULLY BUILT LS3! I absolutely love it!. The chop is so nice and it handles sooo well (Ive never driven anything over 300hp lol)
Love your channel man! I do happen to have a somewhat stock 2005 c6. I think the vetts are all super cool.. Sexy body too! My neighbor however seems to think his 2012 mustang 5.0 is the the shit... Everyone around me is like oh wow the mustang is do awesome... Do they not realize they are a few notches down on the totem pole...😅 I had many Cameron in my day but the corvette is on a different level I feel....
Great job..I think you did a good job having C6 versions and information that ppl can learn from..Sure you didn't have z06 on but you have enough information where ppl could learn from..Good Job from a guy that owns a Vette..👍🏾🏁
I think I did the right thing. Got a base corvette for 8k in terrible condition. Replaced the entire interior, corbeau seats , all new carpets , z06 shocks , new wheels , borla exhaust. I'm all in maybe 15k.
The only thing I would say is the practically of the ZR1 I would rate it lower the the base and GS just for the fact of rarity and maybe not wanting to drive it as much as the others (taking it to the track and bagging on it). Absolutely love this series!!!
Base/GS is best. Can boost and get some great gains. Z06 LS7 not so well for boost. ZR1 is king but some don’t modify because some believe it’ll lose value
Depends on what you’re using it for. If your drifting get a base and bash it then throw on wide body fenders. If you’re tracking it the GS or z06 for the dry sump and upgraded brakes
C6GS is the sweet-spot for a "normal" person who would mod the base model. $90-100k is way too spicy for 99% of folks with a mortgage. Keep it up, great video!
C6 GS Centennial edition is the sweet spot similar interior to the ZR1 but way cheaper at around 50k. There was a period about 5 years ago where you could get into a GS between 25-35k and a Z06 between 30-45k but people have realized their value and there’s a slight influencer tax on them. Great video Vin would love to see you and Zach do more together.
1 minute in, I already have to drop a comment. The C4 is a good sports car, and was a fantastic sports car for the time. Whatever you might consider a Countach, Testarossa, etc, the C4 ZR1 tops it. Even the base model is an amazing car. I've gapped modern WRX's, Mustangs, and LS cars with a pre-LT engine C4 on the straights, and, in the corners. Anyone who underestimates the C4 hasn't driven a good C4. You have a great channel, but minus points for that opinion. I certainly agree that the C1-C3 aren't great sports cars, but the C4 can definitely keep up today.
I bought my '05 base model 6MT L55 with the acrylic roof about a month ago and I can't stop driving it. I paid $18,500 with 86,000 miles.. It came with an Airaid cold air intake, Billy Boat cat-back stainless exhaust, ans some aftermarket swaybars. It's lowered an inch in front, 1.5 inches in the rear, and just...it's perfect. I *MIGHT* upgrade to an '08 at some point. The base model is so perfect, though. What a great daily.
Vin, I love you brother , love the content and love this video. Gotta rip a couple points, First to complete this lineup you kind of need to drive the Z06 despite how close it is the GS. Lastly, 4700 totally production for the ZR1 is an extremely rare production number , a fair amount less than 997 RS (love gt3 , just saying) that said, of all the cars I’ve ever driven or owned, nothing is like c6 zr1, its an experience like no other!
I’ve never really been a Corvette guy but I’ve always respected the brand. I’ve driven dozens but it wasn’t until I got to drive a C7 ZR1 that I started really liking the Corvette. The C8 was a big force into me becoming a fan and the ZO6 really got me and now there’s the new ZR1 to look forward to. The sad thing is I’m now a middle aged man that can afford to get into the new ZR1 but I so don’t want to be the stereo stereotype I’ve made fun of for most of my life lol
I'm not a GM guy, but the C4/5/6 are the best budget sports cars out there, especially for getting in cheap and hotrodding to make your own. a stick hard top C4/5/6 would be go to choice if I were going to get way more serious in track days and grass roots competition. the parts availability is PhD level... Piled High and Deep.
The C6 ZR1 is one of my dream cars! That car is just downright sexy in every way! I'd want one painted either Jetstream Blue or silver with the stock chrome wheels. Unfortunately, with me standing 6'5", I really don't fit inside any Corvette comfortably, which really pisses me off because they're not exactly tiny cars externally. Zach's Grand Sport sounds great! The hood on his car looks like it was inspired by the hood on the Corvette C5.R. Sonja is my kind of girl. First and the most important mod? BOOM... exhaust! Gotta have a decent sounding exhaust rumble if you have a V-8 powered performance car. On a side note, you mentioned the horsepower for the C4 ZR1 was only 375, which is partly true, but for the 1993 - 1995 models, the horsepower was bumped up to 405.
I love all C6's. I do think it would be cool to build a regular Z51 LS3 car. You do not get the body , dry sump or brakes, but I kind of like the more simple lines on it. Lower it on a good set of coilovers, a nice square 18" set up and I think that would be the ticket for me.
C3 Corvette is honestly one of the most gorgeous cars ever made, and the early gen cars with the 427, 454 or the LT1 were incredibly fast for their time. 460hp straight out of the factory with the 427 ZL1 aluminum head, after 74 that’s when corvettes hit the shitter right up until the C5 I’d agree. But don’t be knocking the early mako’s!
The stock Grand Sport has many the doodads and flash (and the dry sump), but doesn’t have the horsepower you get with a Z06. I looked at a few C6 ZR1s but their prices were too much. I settled on a C7 Z06 and am happy I did.
@@yDoUevenTry4 Yet the C4 ZR-1 still holds a 24 hour endurance speed record no Corvette or any other production car has broken to this day. The c4 was a great generation. Googles free, use it next time before making a dumb comment.
@@yDoUevenTry4 This is the most invalid opinion that I have seen all week. The C1 is monumental, C2 is gorgeous and powerful, C3 had some good years, but, had ultimately been killed by the oil crisis, and the C4 was revolutionary. 6 speed after 1990, 350 ft-lb torque in 1985, first Corvette body to be designed using a wind tunnel, the ZR1 beat almost every other car on the road, AND it's the cheapest generation at the moment. I bought mine for 7k and I firmly believe there was no better sports car, for that money, on the market.

Never a boring second with your videos Vin. One of the very few channels that can keep my attention for the whole length.
Vin, idk wtf some ppl are saying this is such a perfect series and I see these getting the views and bringing more ppl to the channel with is the goal. Keep killing it!
When you have a great episode & the Shopify ad is still the best part, then you know that you have an adorable dog!
“Can I pet that Daaaawg?”
Happy to see you and the old Hoonigan guys make content they love and reaping ALL the results from it.
Much respect guys! 👍
As an African we are exposed to European cars and that’s what we are more akin to like but my word a Corvette is something fantastic and that sounds is Godly, que the ChopLord
I’m liking how you review and rate in this new series because I like your opinion on how and why you buy car for investments. It’s good for average car guys like us to know what value we are getting and what the future holds for these values, thanks! 🙏🏽
The editor in you did epic Vin! Really loving the series and seeing how you are making your own look/feel.
Great episode!!
C6 is definitely the best generation of Corvettes. Sexy body lines and the LS platform. Love my C6 Grand Sport.
Man this video dropped at the perfect time for me! I’m looking to get a c6 I can beat the snot out of. Lots of great info here. Thanks man!!
We need a BMW e82 comparison video: base 135i vs tuned 135i vs 1M 🙏
It’s all about the base 128i with the automatic. *ducks*
Love my 135i msport. What I don't love is the plastic cooling system lol
bro forgot the best one, the 128i 😤😤😤😤😤😤 (Yes, I have one. Yes, I cant wait to sell it)
Gransport is nice to boost, decent bottom end.
Yes the c6 zo6 is such a cool car with that 427 engine .
The introduction to this video was amazing. So much information but wasn’t boring. Love the series, keep it up!
It sounds like perfection
Add to that if I choose to add the wide body quarters of the “upgraded models” I can simply buy those and bolt them on easy.
Great seeing Zach on the channel this week. I never miss an episode on Zach's channel, Hert's channel or yours. Love all the videos you guys put out and it makes me happy to see you all thrive. long may it continue. It would be nice to see Ron make a few more appearances too, I miss seeing him with you guys. He seems like such a cool Geezer. Big Ups Vin and thanks for another top video. Much Love
What I love with the Chevys Corvettes is the fact that you can't hear the blower I had a C6 Z06 and now I have a C7 Z06 I absolutely love both cars I'm actually going to buy a C6 ZR1 so I have one of each I love both Generations so much
Watching your boy with the red one and carbon fiber hood is hilarious. You can tell he's like "shift now" and the anxiety on his body. It was a sweet moment to watch because ya'll are obviously close and you can tell he is restraining himself. Amazing video.
While the C6 Grandsport is awesome, its not quite the same as the C6 Z06. The C6Z is special, the LS7 (although a problematic race engine) is incredible. You should definitely drive and review one if you can.
How reliable has it been?
@Kauffman578 I don't own a C6 but I own a C5Z. It's super reliable even for 20 years old. But mine has low miles and has been well taken care of.
Not sure I’d ever buy a C6 but damn I smiled all through this video really miss watching the old gang at Hoonigan together! Please do more videos together
to watch zac go from the bike guy at the donut garage to spiting knowledge about Corvettes and LS stuff. I love you guys!
Awesome video! I think the C6 is a great bang for your buck. Been considering a Z06 and now considering a GS!
should do a show on salvage, rebuilt, and insurance salvage cars. A lot of people get put off on insurance salvage cars when the only issue they had was because insurance didn't want to pay for the overpriced OEM parts. -
either way, keep up the content. always look forward to thursdays!
As someone who obsessively watches car reviews, you are top notch man. First vid I've ever seen of you and I will continue to do so.
Dude, these series are amazing. So much love and effort. We appreciate it
Now this is the review I've been waiting for!
Videos between build projects can be tough but you just consistently nail it! Merch fits great too!
You got the last year ZR1👍 that was my dream car as a kid. Loved reading about it beating everything. KING OF THE HILL 💪👍😘🙏
Calling an LS2 and 6.2 and catching bass from the ocean had me rolling. Great content.
Great video! Couple of things for what they're worth:
- I hope you keep on making this series as I'm finding it very interesting and fun!
The ones that left…
Yeah I need to invest more into things for scoring and such.
Corvettes have been my realistic dream car forever. Thank you for making this.
This was good Vin. I really enjoyed your analysis and i believe you should do more of this. It was very informative for me.
Zachs my spirit animal, but you vinny... are my mentor. This is the perfect episode
I own a 2013 60th Anniversary Grand Sport Coupe and love everything about the C6. The lines and the curves are just right. I am planning to keep it the way it was born.
For some reason, I love the angle that was used when Vin was ranking the calls. Felt like a hang.
Do they not realize they are a few notches down on the totem pole...😅
I had many Cameron in my day but the corvette is on a different level I feel....
Been saving for a C6 GrandSport... Can't wait to get one.
Vin this video was great dude ! Gave me old school hoonigan vibes and I loved it
ZR1 has been a dream car for a long time and it didn't disappoint at all when I got mine. great video. Subscribed
Good breakdown Vin. Awesome comparison of practicality and drivability of this selection.
Grand Sport is the one! Wider body, makes a huge difference. Zac's looks perfect....
Z06 is almost its own thing, my favorite.
The only thing I would say is the practically of the ZR1 I would rate it lower the the base and GS just for the fact of rarity and maybe not wanting to drive it as much as the others (taking it to the track and bagging on it).
Absolutely love this series!!!
I’m sorry. I had to stop. More than halfway through smiling at you and Zach with his C6. It’s good to see some of the boys to feature each other.
Base/GS is best. Can boost and get some great gains. Z06 LS7 not so well for boost. ZR1 is king but some don’t modify because some believe it’ll lose value
Content quality getting better and better with each video Vin
Depends on what you’re using it for. If your drifting get a base and bash it then throw on wide body fenders. If you’re tracking it the GS or z06 for the dry sump and upgraded brakes
the base c6 is the 2nd best car for around 20k, the s550 is easily the best if you want looks and performance, so many options for a tss or procharger
C6 Z06 is reasonably(GOATed)
Love new Corvette content on C5 and C6 Gen.
Pre-covid the C6 GS was going for 22-28k for clean examples. C6z06 was under $30k all day long. Sad times.
Hopefully hype doesn’t ruin these, see it slowly happening rn
@@jrezz9336 Well the market on these shrunk up a few years ago already so at least we're getting some content out of it :)
Finally! I’ve been hoping for this (and made a couple comments asking for it) since you made the first one. 😍
C6GS is the sweet-spot for a "normal" person who would mod the base model. $90-100k is way too spicy for 99% of folks with a mortgage.
Keep it up, great video!
This is why I chose a C6 as my drift chassis! Perfect base chassis
Fantastic video, really happy to see you and the other guys do their own thing
Good objective analysis. Your including flexibility / adaptability / availability, of mods, to tailor to individual goals, adds much to this video.
For sure. A lot of 80s tech cars are pretty sub par from a driving experience. Late 90s is when things started to make sense
Riding that red GS down Gothard closer and closer to the HB Police building. LOL! Love the series - keep the great work up!
I really like what Zach is doing. Might even have to get a Zach bump stick for my Hemi project.
Great vid! How about the C6 Z06/ZO7 package cars? I went that route for the ZR1 chassis with the LS7. Perfect blend imo
Really Happy to see u and zac together!
PHD part is another reason so many people go with it
The C6 ZR1 is one of my dream cars!
I have a c6zo6 and looking to buy a zr1 soon, it's the ultimate pair of corvettes imo, the only vetted I would take over them is the split window
I would definitely lean grand sport, would feel a bit bad modifying the ZR1 and hurting its value.
I settled on a C7 Z06 and am happy I did.
this is my favorite video of your channel so far
C4 was an epic gen, don't sleep on it!
worst gen ever complete garbage lol
@ tell me you know nothing about corvettes without telling me you know nothing about corvettes!
@@georgemerusi299 You're retarded. Plain and simple. Nobody buys C4's because theyre dogshit. Any enthusiast or corvette owner knows that generation is a joke. wasnt untill the C6 where the car made a real comeback as an actual statement performance vehicle. Ive owned 4 corvettes: 2 C6 and 2 C8's and still own my 24 Z07. I think i know a bit more than you do champ much less can actually afford to speak on shit generations of the car
This is a great concept for a series. Liking it so far
