Proud owner of a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500, minor repairs like water pump and alignment components, biggest repair was a new transmission at about 200k miles. Currently 245k miles, same original engine, no smoke 💨 or mechanical issues other than normal maintenance when needed. 21 yrs and still looking like a just a couple of years out of the lot.

Got a 96 ram 1500 gen 2 reg cab 165k miles all stock no issues, it's not fast in a quick sense but it's one hell of a monster for pulling! Yeah, hell with the dash, what dash lol. Only parts that are not stock and mind you I just changed for new parts: rear drum breaks, front wheel bearing hubs, front rotors and break pads and yeah that's at 165k miles. America's longest lasting truck indeed! Oh, and I put an air horn in. Easy to work on parts are cheap cost wise, I'd recommend this truck.

I have had some of these problems but alot of the issues he's talking about are fairly trivial. I still have my 98 1500 with a automatic and 318 its rusty but trusty believe there's nothing fancy about these trucks but he is right they are work horses and they're also very practical especially to fix. It did that once last week when I was leaving a stop sign, and it did it like eight more times when out with my girlfriend. It's been a nice run for my first vehicle though. They aren't slow! Torque is 2nd to none in this class of truck. The 5.2 had a more issues than the 5.9. I have a 2000 4x4 5.9 with 240,000. I have had no mechanical problems whatsoever. I did experience the HVAC vaccum lines dry rotting and breaking due to age and heat. Simple fix with the vaccum line replacement kit. The ball joint issue is from not regularly greasing them. I don't see this as problems its age and not taking care of it. Only problem legit is the trans.

Hi. I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L. For some reason I have no power when I turn the key. No lights, nothing. The other day I drove the truck around fine. Then unloaded and went to start the car. It did not start so I put jump starter and car started. The battery reads 12.4 volts from the voltmeter so I thought maybe starter is going. I changed the starter today and thought I did a good job. Then when I tried to turn on truck, then realized no power at all when I turn the key. No lights on dashboard at all. Is there a fuse or relay that I should look at? Hopefully find some answers. Thanks for any advice.

I have a weird situation with my airbag light. Comes on when cold but goes off when warmed up. Or is not on when warm outside. Obviouly a faulty wire somewhere that's effected by heat or a connector but I can't track it down.
Also I and others have had issues with the cruise control. I can turn on cruise control but it slowly slips over30 seconds and doesn't maintain speed. some sort of vacuum pressure issue. I replaced the vacuum hose with no luck.
Another big problem with these trucks is the seal between the two blocks fails and it slowly leaks oil.

Ac vents issue I have. Doesn’t bother me it’s only a few seconds. I have a 1997 SST bought it brand new. 200K miles on it. Turn the truck on put it in neutral a few seconds before driving. I have original transmission. At 150000 replaced the cooling system all of it. No sense in replacing radiator and have the water pump go bad down the road. The truck could be a dog at highway speed but not at the starting line. I bought a new 2010 Chevy, a new 2019 Ford pick ups. Chevy I gave to my son, Ford to my daughter. Turn that Dodge on sounds like a rocket, head turner. I will keep my faithful truck. Clean yours a little bit.

When you moved the steering wheel back and forth that knocking noise was probably the cross joint in the colum shaft above the steering box.
Easy fix. About 80 bucks. It came with the sliding shaft, upper and lower U joints and , what some of us old guys call the rag joint..all assembled from RockAutoParts.
BUT!!! The bottom pinch bolt would not thread in no matter what. I just used a longer bolt and nut (hardend) out the other side. Cringe.
Also i dropped the trans pan and ripped out and replaced ALL the electric parts. (Rock Auto) about $600. Problems dissapered.

At 1:30 when he’s talking about the check valves, I need someone to tell me if my problem is those. So whenever I press the pedal down further/ faster my truck damn near goes into overdrive or something for a second, like the engine makes “vroom” sound and like shoots me forward. It’s either these check valves or the transmission, but the sound is coming from the engine so I don’t think it’s the transmission. I don’t know, let me know

My issue is so freaking weird. If it rains and I'm not driving my truck it will not start for like a day. If I try to start it the morning after it rains, it's a 75% chance that it will take at least 30 to 45 seconds of the engine cranking before it turns on. If I don't try to start it that morning or like 5 hours after it rains, it will not turn on until it's dry out

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 5.2 Sport that while driving sometimes (especially when it's hot outside) the engine shuts down and I'll have to pull to the side and sometimes it will start right back up and sometimes I'll have to wait 5 to 15 - 20 minutes till it will start up again. I so far replaced the idle control valve sensor and throttle sensor. Next I'm going to replace the crankshaft position sensor and the ignition coil and the camshaft sensor, just keep replacing these things till I fix it. If someone knows how to fix this I'm all ears.

One rams were made in 1994 to 2002.5 ontop of that rams arent that slow something is wrong with yours probably or rear gear ratio is very low i got a 1996 5.2 sport slt and she moves fast. The 5.2 seems to react alot better on acceleration than the 5.9 even though 5.9 has more torque and horsepower the 5.9 feels a bit sluggish if you dont step on it the right time. But when you do it makes you feel that power. I owned a 2002 5.9 so i know what im talking about you litteraly have more top end speed with it than the 5.2. But my spot is on the 5.2 318 gets better mpg and has good acceleration and has been very reliable with me. I now own a 04 hemisport has tons more power but feel like there isnt much torque compared to old L.A. blocks.
