Do not throw away your DevaCurl products. Save them. I believe there will be a testing phase for the class action lawsuit. You may be compensated for your hair loss and scalp issues.
Omg I hope soo! Girlll same my hair was falling out my hair is so thin I thought it was just meee!! But thank god it was not just me. Keep me updated please
Thanks for posting this I was watching your old videos trying to learn how to style my daughter's hair. They have ringlets all over. Thanks I'm just gonna stick to the coconut oil over night twice a week for them. Thank God I saw this before purchasing the product on Amazon.
I just pulled out my stockpile of Deva Curl. I am so glad you informed us. I will definitely research any other products I put on my hair from now on. I just thought all my hair loss and I mean CLUMPS of hair was due to hormonal issues which it still could be but I was losing ALOT of hair.
I bought the wavy bundle for myself Christmas time of 2018 I didn't care for it because of how much it cost and how much you actually get. I'm so glad I didn't save up again to get more.
I'm very broke for devacurl. But my hair was so damaged from coloring that I was getting on a budget to buy their products because I was really desperate to recover my hair. And now I have unopened products that cost me money I don't have and don't know what to do with them, because it's been too long to return. 😢
For y’all straight haired people if you think she’s being dramatic, she’s not. Because losing your curly hair pattern is the worst feeling ever and it is so hard to find a curly hair product
Daniela Carrera it might be for you. But for her that’s her job, that’s how she pays her bills, That’s literally all she has, also for her and many curly hair girls/boys/etc that’s their form of confidence, having a good hair day is what gives them confidence, so pls think before you speak.
@@danielacarrera2492 Oh fuck off. For a lot of people it ain't "just hair". Ya know, go up to a cancer patient and tell them "it's just hair", see how THAT goes, and get back to me.
For the people saying that she’s overreacting- not only does she have the right to be upset that a product ruined her hair, but also she’s probably upset that because she was an ambassador she got other women to ruin their hair.
well she still shouldn't feel guilty.. she didn't know she couldn't have known that the product was bad.. it's not her fault it's the fault of the people putting the product on the market they are the ones to blame.. they are the ones that made hundreds of innocent women ruin their hair and for what ? a profit.. the ones behind the product are human scum for thinking this is acceptable
Omg!! Recently I had small hair(like bang's type of, but I never had bang's in the first place) but my hair is small and just like she said like the middle part felt like it was a road(not too much but still, like.. noticable, can say a lil bit more than noticable) and also dandruff and itching on my head, so I again thought as same as she said can be depression, can be this or that(gave a few excuses to myself) but I never knew it could be my hair shampoo (I don't use too much products on my hair, shampoo or sometimes oil. But I just realised what if it's the shampoo??? Omg!!! Cuz I've been using different×2 types of shampoo's the reason is I was not home and was roaming here and there so I couldn't stay on a single one... Oh myy GOSHHHH!! I'll have to do something real fast, CUZ I don't have strong genetics, my hair strength is medium (got several hair cuts but never was my hair in this condition!!!) GOSHHHH!!! Why didn't I think of this??
When a women works so hard to maintain her natural hair in a society where we are told natural hair is bad, it’s heartbreaking when all that work goes to waste because of a product line. I’m so so sorry.
huh? who ever said curly hair is bad? did i miss a memo or what? also, natural hair comes straight too, and tbh last time straight hair was in was a literal decade ago.
frankinsama because they learned that they can’t avoid it, this so something that could of been avoided and it ended up ruining the time and dedication she spent on her hair for YEARSS. not only that, she was helping promote something that is destroying people’s hair. she probably feels terrible about that 😬
I personally dont think she’s overreacting considering that she spent a huge amount of money on those products and hair can be a huge source of confidence
It is not overreacting when she stopped using the products 14 months ago. People could say she was overreacting if she stopped last week or even last month. It has taken her over a year to do this. She is in a group with thousands of people with this same issue. Overreaction is not the case. Her doing this is awesome. This took courage to put this out there, it took courage to reveal the flaws and admit to herself and to "us" on how she got here. It will take time but she and her hair will recover.
Because of shrinkage and curl patterns it takes women with curly hair twice maybe three times as long to grow out our hair. For people with straight hair it’s no big deal to cut it all off because in a year or two it’ll be back to the same length. It took me 10 years to grow 20 inches. She’s not overreacting. Having your hair ruined when you did everything to take care of it is tragic and it might never be the same.
THANK YOU!! When I was in 2nd grade we went to a new shop in town. My hair was down to my ankles. We told the hair dresser to cut just above my butt. Well, she wasn't paying attention or something because she cut my hair like 2009 Justin Bieber! And it grew out into a mullet!!! 😭😭😭 Now I only go to a trusted family friend who's a professional and is part of a small business. She fixed it. Now, at almost 20, it took so long!! It's now mid back! I'm so happy it's gotten this long.
My hair is pretty much straight a little bit wavy but it takes super long for my hair to grow and I have pretty much straight hair but it is super thick
Also with this I also experienced a lot of dandruff for the first time after using Devacurl for a few months.. I was really confused because that was the only thing I had changed
So, I’m 12, and nobody has ever taught me how to care for my hair, and I recently came off of a year of straightening preceded by 10 years of brushing (that’s right). My stylist recommended devacurl, so off to the store we went. It’s been quite a few weeks and second day has constantly looked like shit, but I just figured it was the damage. Y’know, maybe I was doing it wrong. Lo and behold, the product was shit too. I have everywhere from a 2c to a 4a, so can any of y’all recommend me some products that work for somewhere in between?
For anyone who doesn’t have curly hair it seems like she’s being dramatic. But losing your curl pattern is actually heartbreaking. You have a sense of individuality with natural hair. I tried to go blonde and my hair will take years to reach its healthy state again. I miss my curls a lot. 😞
I know, right? It almost reminds me of the women on America’s next top model that flipped out when they wanted her to dye her naturally red hair and she explained how every persons red hair is unique and she didn’t want to lose hers. It’s the same way with curls. And who’s to say that you’ll get your unique curl pattern back with chopping off the damaged hair and starting from scratch
A lot of people are gonna say this is “dramatic” but having curly hair myself, ANY type of loss of curl or change in texture is like a change in personality, in a way. It’s so devastating and you start to question your routine and yourself and almost go crazy trying to figure out what went wrong. 😩
I'm going through it right now just because of my own idiocy. Decided I would dye my hair brown...then purple...then back to brown. I'm a natural blonde. My texture and pattern are ruined. I can't retain moisture. A friend with a cosmetology license says I should be able to repair it but I'm almost at my wits end and keep feeling like I should shave it and start over. I've tried several products and none of them have worked for me. I'm at a loss at this point. I had actually considered going back to Devacurl until I saw this video. I'm so glad she's sharing her journey. I can relate to the emotional struggle so much right now.
SEriously!! What is everyone saying "she's not overreacting"??? NO ONE is saying she is overreacting. I'm more interested in hearing comments about Devilcurl experiences. So proud of this girl for speaking out. I wouldnt be surprised if they wanted to buy her out.
DoeDonDoe it’s probably that the most liked comments are ones defending her so those are the ones we’re seeing. it’s probably all the way at the bottom or deleted, etc. by now lol
@@DoeDonDoe hey girl, my experience with devacurl: hair fall out really bad. I was beginning to bald at the front of my head. It was really bad. I thought it was college/stress. But nope. When I finally ran out of devacurl I decided to try out other products. Now there’s no balding...
@@jenniferrsn Hi Jennifer, Glad to hear your hair grew back! I never tried DevaCurl. But am really proud of this girl for standing up and not allowing DevaCurl to buy her out, even though they tried to. So sorry to hear you experienced your hair falling out!! My hair currently......literally crying right now and I didn't even use DivaCurl, I just don't know how to take care of my hair anymore. I don't know what products to use :(
My grandma literally just bought me a few bottles of deva curl shampoo and conditioner, because I was comaplining about how frizzy my hair was getting cuz of my curls. I was watching UA-cam and suddenly I had this video in my recommendation feed and Jesus Christ, thank god for the algorithm
Please don't use our Lord and Savior's name in such a way. Jesus loves you more than anyone or than you can imagine. Thank you for reading and I pray you will meet our Lord. @@jenjen52177 Doesn't mean you will lose your hair as well. She used the same products for years. It's good to change it out. You can use up the products and then don't buy anymore. Don't have to lose your money. I've used Deva Curl on and off.
For the people talking smack about her emotional relationship with her hair: when someone takes the time to establish a relationship with not only themselves but their identity, what they’ve built their self love on and have that taken from them unexpectedly ( whether it’s medical issues, life predicament, or what have you) Things like that change you. And healing is a process. She know has to re establish that self love after taking YEARS to find it. No, you don’t need hair to be beautiful, but she found her personal comfortability and love through herself; it just so happened to be her hair. Have some respect
Edmen Franky she needs to stop trying to be a celebrity and keep her opinions to herself. Serves her right ! Everything that comes out of her mouth is bullshit. Google her. It doesn’t stop with promoting hair products. FYI she also swears by Garnier on Instagram
Obviously these people haven’t had to deal with the pain of thick curly hair all their lives. Without the right products it matts and tangles and can take hours to make it look presentable. It’s hot and heavy and frizzy. Devacurl didn’t just wreck my hair though. It turned my scalp red and then it peeled off like a sunburn. Two years later I’m still dealing with the fallout. It can take a toll on your mental health and self confidence. She has every right to be outraged and upset
DNA don’t make her seem likes villain because she loves her hair. just because you’re baldhead or thin haired and don’t care doesn’t mean that you can dictate how a person should feel. what kind of person says that some deserves something like this??! how does it feel to legit be a bad person
Everyone hating on this girl clearly doesn’t understand the time and dedication curly hair takes. It’s not just a one day to another thing. I started my curly hair journey two years ago and I’ve still got such a long way to go. Thank you so much for making a video like this to inform others.
Myth Tree How is climate change related to hair? Hair is a big part of self confidence and a lot of curly girls can’t just stand in the rain and get perfect hair. The environment is dying and that’s an important issue but I don’t understand how you’re complaining about someone wanting to feel good about themselves and have pretty hair.
Myth Tree Don’t demean someone for being upset about something they’ve but so much dedication into- you realize she is moving to more natural products right? How in the hell are these two things even related? Just live and let live.
@Myth Tree LMAO chill. Do you work at DevaCurl or something? 😂 also, you stay in the rain to keep your curls healthy? That should explain why you're so "cold" lol
Ifeel this way after giving birth now.. 6 months later and Wait till u give birth and get pregnant and are mid age ...wondering wtf jus happened to my hair.?? Not only is it fallingggggggggggg out..my curl is not so defined since pregnancy but no pattern anymore post birth..it dead limp... Its brittle? Straight.. like dry frizz and only barely curls at bottom.. flat straight now...i cry inside. I kno the pain
A woman’s hair is like her crown, this is absolutely something to be mad about! ----- Edit: I see a lot of replies about it just being an overreaction due to marketing and beauty shaming. I’m not saying it’s bad to not value your hair, or to have short hair, or no hair at all. I was just reminded of 1 Corinthians 11:15 when I commented. For some women hair is a huge cultural and personal thing and it’s been that way for a very long time, and in many different religions and societies.
I hate how she’s getting hate because she cares how she looks with her hair, like you don’t understand she said she started her curly hair journey at THIRTEEN how old is she now in her 20s?! And now all of a sudden all that effort and hard working trying to get her hair back to being healthy to have it stripped away just like that... it’s so sad she’s worked so hard and now it’s like she has to start over... i feel so bad for her😞
I agree but dude, being this attached to your hair is just...sad. It's like her own identity depends on her hair. If you can't upload a picture with your idol because your 'hair doesn't look good' that's pretty lame. I think her hair still looks fine.
Thank you for coming out with this. People laugh at me and tell me I am overreacting because I am a guy it is like they refuse to take me seriously. I am going BALD after less than a year of use of this. I am watching all of my hair just disintegrate before my eyes. all of the same symptoms leading up to this. This stuff is DANGEROUS and will ruin your hair.
@@MusicWillSaveYou oh I’m sorry to hear that. Have you tried the olaplex 3? I’m not sure if it does much for hair growth but it repairs damaged hair really well
I couldn’t use the shampoo and conditioner. It dried my hair out so bad after the first use. The styling products weren’t bad, but after this I tossed it all.
This is not just a women “complaining” about hair. Yes it’s a hair issue on the surface but you guys need to understand it’s an ethics issue...This is so wrong. This was in my recommendation. I don’t know you ayesha or know anything about this but I’m so sorry you went through all this. Thank you for showing us your vulnerable side and working towards helping others going through the same
It's also a matter of confidence and societal pressure. Curls and coils have been considered ugly for ages and it sucks when companies take advantage of women embracing their natural textures after many of us grew up being told that it was something to manage rather than embrace.
Who has been calling it just, "women complaining"? I agree that they are VERY wrong. People aren't just complaining, hair takes years to grow, and because of shrinkage, curly hair takes even longer to LOOK long. A large portion of the consumers lost hair. They have to start over. Hair is, and has almost always been so important in society, that when everybody was running around with syphilis and losing their hair, it was a health and status symbol to still have it for MEN and women. That's why people who had no hair ran around with those powdered wigs we look back on today. Syphilis. Embarrassment. Hair loss. Now people like Ayesha who have experienced a significant amount of hair loss with ZERO SYPHILIS, but because of a "high end" "hair product," get forced to start over. Even if we can't tell, like in a lot of very visible cases Deva Curl seems to have caused that we've seen pictures of, it likely feels differently, wasting years of work. So to anyone calling it just complaining, ask them if it's acceptable to destroy something they've put years of care into, bringing them back to square one.
It’s not just an ethics issue. Anyone who has curly hair, they usually go through childhood hating their hair, then a period of acceptance, then to loving it. So it’s tied to your personality almost, like your curls are you and you are your curls. And I’m sure this company knows that otherwise they wouldn’t have created their products in the first place to help women get their hair to a place where they would love their curls too. And the time/money spent on a curly girls hair is outrageous.
MiVidaBellisima You must not be curly. It’s heartbreaking to lose your curl pattern, especially when you’ve been natural for as long as her (at least 10 years.).
*sips tea* :3 I have 3c curls. Anything less than type 3 is a wave and her was definitely a 2c. Yes someone that actually has curls losing their curls is frustrating, but a girl with wavy hair receiving wavy hair products should not be.
Hair porosity is much more significant than curl type in determining suitable product/s, tools, and hair care routines. Multiple factors impact the visual appearance of curls. Curly is curly.
Nailed it! “Henkel has signed an agreement to acquire Deva Parent Holdings, Inc., New York City/USA from a fund managed by the Private Equity Group of Ares Management Corporation. Deva Parent Holdings owns DevaCurl, a high growth professional hair care business.”
That's terrible! You'd think a company dedicated to curly hair care would know how much time, money, and effort it takes to keep curly hair healthy and manageable. I hope this class action lawsuit costs them a looooooot. I feel so sorry for anyone who's used these products and suffered hair damage 💔
Monique Breedlove What? Nooooo, when? I’ve been bumming around because of COVID, and last year I lived in the woods for environmental work, sooooo I’ve been MIA when it comes to properly taking care of my hair lol But CD & DevaCurls were the only products I had found that worked on my hair :(
The fact that she couldn’t even look at herself breaks my heart. This is not just her being self conscious. When you have curly/natural hair and you learn to accept it, it becomes apart of your identity and getting that stripped away is awful. Please share this video I’m so glad I’ve found this and I’m so proud of her for speaking out about this. She’s a true hero
Especially all the work you put into your curls every day! I personally just have 2A soft S waves and I don’t have to do much to my hair besides buy good shampoo and conditioner, but my mom has always had thick bra strap length ringlet curls and if anyone thinks that she can just shower and not worry about it their wrong. I watched her get ready every day as a kid and there’s so much work people put in to maintaining them! It really does become a part of your identity because it takes up so much of your time
Anaya L, that’s so true, I have gone natural now for the third time. It’s been almost two years, and I do feel like my afro gives me so much confidence as well as I look so much different from others, your curls make you unique. I feel for her 💔
She didn't change her routine for 6 years, you bet she has build up and her hair would be buried under it. She is in the wrong for not doing her research. And Deva is in the wrong for criminalizing sulfates when you actually need them occasionally to scrape off the crap "no poo" can't get rid of.
the other bob agree. Also she said that she didn’t use other products because she looked at their ingredients and They didn’t live up to her HIGH standard. So I guess she didn’t read the INCI on DevaCurl products. I don’t get it, where is the high standard there?
My daughter stopped diva curl 8 months ago after she was embarrassed about her scalp. Her hair was sticky, and scalp was red and had a ton of buildup and huge flakes. Now her hair is silky and a healthy scalp
I started seeing those effects by the end of my first bottles of the low-poo shampoo and conditioner (I forget what the conditioner was). I thought I was doing something wrong.
When she showed us her hair 8 hours later my jaw dropped. Only because I know how hard she worked to maintain her hair health. The curly hair Journey is an arduous one so I resonate with how she feels completely.
I’ve been using devacurl on my daughters hair and noticed she lost her curls too, started losing hair, as well as developed dandruff which she never had before. This is heartbreaking as a mom to find out you’ve been damaging your child’s hair
Oh guys don’t beat yourself up so much! You guys didn’t know! I sure you both are such amazing mothers! You had no idea it would damage their hair. It’s not your fault at all!
You didn’t know you thought you were doing what was the best for her hair Wishing you and your beautiful daughter the best her hair will recover don’t beat yourself over it ❤️
I love how you apologised. I’ve see so many UA-cam’s who realise that something they were endorsing was not good but instead of apologising to their community and accepting they made a mistake. They don’t take accountability. So thank you for being different :)
Gurl, you have given the curly girl community POWER THROUGH KNOWLEDGE. We will stand with you. Always. We love you. And your hair will bounce back....but we will not let them get away with this. Tell India Batson.
Saira Bajwa I haven’t watched Penny in some time since she changed her handle but I hadn’t seen her use DC that much. I think I might have seen one of the deep conditioners. Thankfully Penny is really good at trying new products and seems super down to Earth so hopefully she will just kick DC to the curb
Who is the hairstylist and how do I support the claim. I have hair loss, itchy scalp, bald spots, dryness and more after consistent use of DevaCurl for at least 4 years. I took a break for a couple of years and recently have experienced worse symptoms after trying DevaCurl again. I believe it is false advertising and luring in curly women who have struggled all their lives to manage their hair. DevaCurl videos and book say only use their products.
I have 4C hair and I stay away from anything promoted to “curly” hair because I genuinely feel like products for curly hair have ingredients that relax your curls to make the look more “pleasing”
And for the people saying “It’S jUsT HAiR, iT wiLL gRow BAcK.” NO. It’s not just hair. First of all her hair is her income! Secondly, these products are affecting people’s lives! Hair loss and alopecia like symptoms as a result from a hair product/brand is NOT normal. Some of these women look like they have CHEMICAL BURNS on their head! Like if they left a relaxer on for too long. Who knows what other types of health issues these people might encounter in the future due to prolonged use of DevaCurl. Y’all have to remember that our scalp is highly porous and can and will absorb anything you put on it. So imagine using these products for 6 months+ and your scalp absorbing all these harmful chemicals for all that time! SHAME ON DEVACURL.
As a curly hair girl, I sympathize with her hurt over her damaged hair. The feeling of finding the “perfect product” is so nice, let alone finding a whole line that suits your hair, and then for it to just completely destroy your curl pattern is terrible. Luckily, since I’m more on the younger side, had just started embracing my curly hair after the bad news about deva curl, so i have never tried any of their products and never will. I feel for her, and I hope her hair looks better now, she deserves it💕
I feel extremely bad for her. Imagine spending all your days since you were 13 taking care of your damaged hair just to realize years later you were just damaging it even more. Im really glad my devacurl gel never arrived.
The fact they sent you wavy hair products knowing you were curly makes me seriously think whoever created this formula literally hates everyone with curly hair and is just out to destroy it. .
Isn't that crazy? It really does seem like every time I really like a company, they're good when they start off small. And when they get big, they get greedy and everything changes.
I think this happens when real people start a business and are great at what they do so they build something sucessful. Then the business vultures who don't give an f about curly hair buy it as an "investment", make it public, and then their mission becomes to make more money for the share holders every year. Its parasitic capitalism
Whoever thinks she’s vain or conceited because she’s worried about her hair and how she looks because of it...YOU LACK EMPATHY. We all have standards for ourselves and things we like about our bodies and external selves.. it’s normal and apart of being human in today’s society. Society cares very deeply about looks and although that sucks, it’s the REALITY. For curly haired girls, we are pushed down and not praised like straight haired girls... so if we finally learn to love ourselves and work hard for our curls, it’ll hurt and anger us like heck if our curls get ruined by a corrupt company! Stop accusing her for being vein when you’re the one clicking on her video wasting your time judging her instead of working on bettering yourself... Shes trying to help thousands of girls and guys with their hair so she deserves a damn applause!!!! 👏 🙏🏽🙏🏽👏👏👍🏽👌🏽♥️
I dont know why u feel straight haired girls get more praise than curly ones. What i see is straight haired ppl want curly (literally they get their hair curled for every special occasion or wear beach waves) and curly haired ppl want straight hair. Thats so stupid. I mean its ok to try something different once in a while, but cant we just be happy for what we got? I know its a long way to accepect ourselves, but definitely worth it. So dont listen to others: be grateful for how u look, love that and work on to look your best that way.
I would be angry and sad, if this would happen to me. I have straight hair, but i know curly hair is hard to please. I can feel her anger and there is no point why she shouldn't talk about it. ❤️🙌🏻
@@schwester6523 I think it's just the a lot of people with curly hair didn't start properly looking after it until early adulthood so they grew up with super frizzy hair because they used harsh shampoos ect.. I have curly hair and it's also super thick so people used to make fun of it at school and ask me why I never brushed my hair (even though that made it worse lol). So I started to get my mum to straighten it after every wash so I would fit in with the girls that had really smooth, shiny, straight hair. So it's not like I'm discriminated against, it's not that deep, but straight hair is associated with looking neat and tidy and curly hair just isn't. Some schools don't actually allow curly hairstyles either, especially those popular in the black community.
@@duck6100 exactly. They are discriminated against time and again. From Curly hair to neat locs as well. If the hair is not straight even corporate America discriminates against them. The United States Supreme Court allows legal hair discrimination in a ruling last year. So I hear what she is saying and appreciate what she is doing. I grew up feeling like my hair was not "good hair". I have thick 3c hair, so thick my hair used to snap brushes in 2. As a result, I took to using the "creamy crack" when I was 11. I slowly stopped using relaxer 2015 only because I was broke at the time and could not afford to keep up with relaxing every 6-8 weeks. Even then, I would wash blow dry and straighten my hair as often as I could. I fully embraced my curly hair in 2018. Once I did I realized how much thicker and healthier my hair had become . I looked at Deva Curl but money wise, I could not afford them then. I am extremely thankful I was not able to afford them especially after seeing this video. Her hair shedding after 3 days is my hair shed after 4 weeks. Her road to recovery might take a while but I truly hope she gets there

I just had my first DevaCut and I told the stylist that for the past few weeks my curls have just not been the same, they've been frizzy and limp and won't hold their curl. I thought it was because I needed a cut. She quietly asked me "Are you using any Deva Curl products?" I said "Yes, I just started using them." She paused and then asked how long I'd been using them and I told her about a month. She looked at me and said "I would use other brands if I was you. I think they've reformulated their product and I no longer recommend them to anyone." I had seen the rumors online but to have a DevaCurl stylist tell me to stop using them...you know something is wrong!
Zoya Fayyaz yeah pleeeease dont! i used to use it and it quickly made my hair brittle, dry, and brought my 3a-b hair to like 2c or something (curly to wavy). wouldn’t recommend
Bruh , every hair is different ! Deva curl is perfect for my hair , super curl and shiny. Every hair it’s different, if Deva curl makes his hair bad that doesn’t mean my hair is going to be that way, I don’t care about other people’s opinion , I only care about my hair’s opinion .
Yessenia Rivera Maurás that’s true but there are so many people who can’t use it and it’s so expensive that it would be a better bet to try a different conditioner before this one
I'm glad she posted this. This is the first (I assume) non black woman of color that I've seen be caring about the effects of this on coarser "blacker" hair types.
ive never seen someone be so disappointed in a product they had so much trust on , i can tell you love your hair and im so sad this is happening to you 😞
I can’t even imagine how it would be to have such an amazing hair and then losing it (and actually losing hair). Also, I can see the pain in your eyes when you talked about all the other people that sent pictures to you. It would be terrible to feel that it might be your fault. But thank you because you did and keep doing everything with great intentions.
I switched to their products last year and my hair DIED.... I’m a cancer survivor, it’s HARD to experience this when I had no hair. it felt like it took out everything.
Breanna Lynn you should go hit that link so you can be apart of the lawsuit ! That’s just downright wrong that happened ! I’m so so sorry love, sending my positive energy to you
I don't spend the amounts it takes to purchase products like Devacurl. But my hair is doing just fine so it's not "cheaper ingredients". Stephanie Mero (Curl Ninja) thinks the issue may be the storage of the products in the warehouses. Too hot or too cold and the products getting seepage from the plastic containers. That sort of thing. She might be onto something there.
@@AngelaVEdwards cheaper refers to what they put into the products, not what you buy. They are using more harmful ingredients that are cheaper for them to obtain is what this person is referring to; the cheaper products you buy don't necessarily have the cheap toxic ingredients deva curl may be using, that's not what's being said at all.
@@ginac9274 cheaply made is a better word of it! Kind of like clothes- it takes 4$ to make the shirt and they price it for 30$. Cheaper priced products arent always bad- quality is not based on how much you spend.
Pearl Rocha how do we really know she didn’t blow dry it? It might all be true but seems a little over dramatic AND how in the world did it take her 6 years to figure this out...
I commend you for coming forward in this way. I just happened to find you this evening while trying to figure out what to do with my extremely thin, fine, frizzy curly hair. This led me to reading about the Curly Girl Method. As I'm prone to do, I was clicking on UA-cam links and...well, here we are. I've thankfully , never tried Deva Curl and thanks to you, I never will. I'm nearly 71 yrs. old so my hair is fragile enough. I wish you well. Keep warning people. THANK YOU!
My heart is breaking for you. I know to some this might just be hair, but for those of us who have dedicated hours and days towards embracing and enhancing our natural texture that we have hated for so long this is a huge blow. I am ever impressed with your bravery to do the right thing in the end. Whether it is to point out the hypocrisy in popular figures or brands, just know you are doing the right thing.
My heart breaks for Aisha! I am only starting my curly hair journey and cant even imagine what it should be like! She's so strong and caring, not to mention her big hart. She is beautiful and it's sad that some people misunderstand her, because she is absolutely amazing! She is a perfect rolmodel and she is God sent to give us all of this advise although it is hard. We love you Aisha ❤️❤️❤️
I cut off all my hair to start over. My hair was falling out non stop and my curls started to lose their patten. It is heart breaking and so disappointing, I bought the book The Curly Girl Method and it promoted DevaCurl so I continued to use it and now I completely stopped in hopes of my hair growing back to the way it was :(
I feel your pain and I know how it feels to not have your hair the way you want it by no fault of yours. For a year when I couldn't afford anything else I just used plain water on my kinky type hair, and it was fine and healthy. It wasn't dry and I eliminated my dandruff problem. I think I'll go back to doing that. It's better for me and the environment.
As a teenager, I used coconut soap (the one mean for clothes) to clean it and coconut oil as leave in. I was known for my curly hair, which my friends usually told me they'd kill me if I ever straightened it. When I started working I jumped to shampoo and conditioner. The ones with sulfate, silicones and bla bla bla. My curly mane stayed up to 39 years. Then, I discovered the curly girl method. It was supposedly green and safe. Why not? I started with Deva 7 years ago. It left my hair dry and t gave me a looser pattern by the end of the month I was using those mini products. I moved to other brands, but my hair went from 3A/B to 2B/C. It was dry, thinning and shedding like crazy. I thought it was the color on my hair as it is naturally black, but was a ginger at the time. Funny enough, my hair never fell the day I clarified my hair with a sulfate shampoo, which was cheap and had no oils or butters in it. As I was 45, I thought my problems were due to age and peri menopause. So, in the middle of 2019, I did a series of clinical tests and they all came back ok. To help my problems, I made a mixture of oils good against hair fall and thinning. It made my hair fall worse. Then, as I am an analytical person I had a eureka moment. If the oils were trashing my hair, could it be the products were doing it two? I stopped the curly girl method and used products without oils/butters/extracts. My hair fall reduced significantly. That was december 2019. Since then, I cut my hair and have ben using minoxidil to improve plus products without these substances. My curls improved greatly. The hair getting ticker and growing again. Learned my lesson. The curly girl method is not for me.
Can't believe she's getting hate for this. She's not just concerned about the outer appearance of her hair. She is concerned about her overall health. Look at how much damage has been made on her hair, and who knows what kind of damage has been done inside her body?! Like hell yeah she has got every goddamn right to be pissed off!
CurlNinja is a curly hair specialist and used to be a huge advocate for DevaCurl. After seeing the damage that it’s done to her and her clients, she’s been speaking out about DevaCurl for months now.
melophobia imagine working on something since you were little. You have memories of your and you're mom washing it together. It's been your safety blanket since you were 9. One day, you completely ruin it. I would cry for about an hour.
@@DoraM12 omg... She's LOSING HAIR YOU NINCOMPOOP. I had postpartum alopecia and I now have a bald spot and it's horrible. You GTFO of here and go do something with your day instead of downsizing someone else's problems. 🖕
I have perfectly straight hair, never had to use any kind of products thank God. But a friend posted this story on her IG and I watched the whole thing. The amount of sympathy I have for the girl in the video and everyone who's used these products and lost their natural curl pattern.. I'm truly sorry for you :'(
@@maranathaacts1327 I watched a ton of you tube vids and figured out which oils worked for what I wanted. Black castor oil, neem oil, coconut oil all for starters. I put them on over the weekend and my hair feels thicker and healthier.
Yo my hair is like her hair after diva curls my hair used to look so healthy and nice but after they changed the formula of my shampoo and conditioner a few years ago I haven’t been able to get the best products.i found two that work fine but it not the same results
I feel for the “I finally felt like I was in a ‘safe relationship’.” This was the video I needed to stop using the products... I’ve felt frizzy and ugly my whole life not sure how to take care of my hair, and Deva Curl finally made me feel good. My roommate started asking why I was loosing so much hair in the shower, and when I switched to an all natural product I was astonished how much healthier it looked and how much less hair I lost. I already have lots of damage from wearing my hair up so much from mostly bad hair days. Waiting for my curl pattern to return 😕
Last thing I need to add is that I am a professional stylist specializing only in curls and I have diagnosed over 100 cases of severe DevaCurl damage IN PERSON in my chair. I can guarantee it is not only the NO POO but ALL the products. I think it's the plastic they are using for packaging now! I have had people using JUST the gel, JUST the leave in, etc and still suffered horrible damages. The law firm made an assumption that the issue is not Cleansing enough but that's not the issue and I'm making sure they know that and really pursue this fully because I believe there's relaxer-like chemicals in these products and they are CARCINOGENIC and so this is a public health crisis NOT a hair crisis. - Stephanie Mero @thecurlninja
Ugh, why. ive been using the products off and off (cause it's expensive), but the item I used the most was the gel. I didn't think that my hair falling out may be the gel. I thought it might have been cause I was just getting older. I'm so sad 😔.
Ayesha, this is such a comeback video for you. Don’t take this the wrong way but right now you’re on a wave and I’d love to see you take your channel in a new direction. Please make videos about your journey recovering from devacurl. Show us how you’re trying to get your curls back.
I was about to say the same thing and this is the first video I ever seen from her lol my hair still looks like that but I am determined to get back my curls as well, is about attitude. You can do this!
YES! Lead us through your recovery process. We are all going to need it. You live, you learn, you pivot. It doesn't mean your channel was a fraud. I'm DYING TO KNOW what you are using now to try and recover your hair.
I thought I was having health problems that caused my hair loss but whenever I got bloodwork and tests done everything came back normal. This makes so much sense. I spent so much money on DevaCurl thinking it would give me healthier hair. :( I’m so sorry all of this happened. Thank you for bringing this to light.
I've been using for years. I was so loyal to the brand I started using on my daughter. My hair started falling out but I just had my son so I blamed it on postpartum. Unfortunately it didn't stop falling out 10 months latrr...and my daughters hair is literally falling out as I pull it. So I definitely can't blame postpartum for that. Smh. And it's super frizzy when soaking wet.
Girlfriend shea moisture, b certified company, black owned, quality ingredients and every purchase goes to help the women that cultivate the ingredients for their products
What do you mean help the women who cultivate the ingredient? They get paid? Or other ways? That's a weird statement lol I have nothing against she moisture it just sounds weird. Lol
you have to be careful because some aren't safe for curly hair but a quick search on one of those websites where you paste a list of ingredients will let you know if the specific product you want is okay to use
Honestly, thank you SO much. I've been using DevaCurl for probably around 5 years and my hair is dead. For the last year I've sworn it was my birth control, but now I know that it's this. I've been so upset to lose my curls because they were a part of who I was. Thank you for being so brave and telling the truth about it because this honestly means so much to me
I sympathise so much, everyone who has curly hair knows what a blessing it is, people start associating you with your hair, she's been my hair goals for about a year and now I feel so so bad .
Deva Curl killed my hair. I just cut 7 inches off my hair and I now have a bob. I'm so thankful to have gotten my ends off. Never used heat or chemicals on my hair just Deva Curl. I was heart broken but I'm happy I got it cut. Much love.
I’m so sorry that this happened to you! I was at Ulta today and there was a WHOLE WALL of DevaCurl products :(. They shouldn’t be allowed to sell anymore!
People saying that she’s overreacting don’t understand how people with curly hair really pay attention to every detail of their every curl every day. I have around 2c/3b hair and when I’m having a bad hair day or it’s just all frizz it hurts 😂 like physically hurts. I know it sounds stupid but it’s true.
Exactly I have like 3a type curly hair and If I have one really bad hair day people with straight hair have to point it out and tell me to brush it but then when I try to explain myself they don't want to listen. So yeah I'm going to be "dramatic" and cry over my hair they really just don't know what it's like. Also I'm not talking about all people with straight hair.
LISAS BLACK HAIR IS GIVING ME LIFE ah maybe unpopular opinion but i preferred her orange hair a while back or her more recent ashy hair haha but the black does look good
This makes me feel so much better. I was going crazy trying to figure out why my hair was so limp, dry and frizzy (looking a lot like your pictures) despite doing all the “right” things. Looking back, my issues started after using DevaCurl One Condition Decadence for my regular conditioner. Thankfully I’ve only been using it for about a year now, and I only wash my hair once a week, so I’m hoping it will bounce back quickly and I can repair the damage. Thank you for speaking out.
Try OLAPLEX and Ayesha should try OLAPLEX too if she is reading this. I saw another curl who also used DevaCurl (but didn’t claim it damaged her hair) using it. Her hair was losing its curl (and she gave birth during that time so attributed it to hormones). It brought her curls back even tighter.
Minimal Assembly I’ve only had one wash since I’ve stopped using DevaCurl. I’m not sure yet if it will help. Clearly it was not helping while I was using DevaCurl.
Look I understand that you’re upset about your hair. I’m just trying to be helpful. It’s good to know that OLAPLEX may not be the solution for other women experiencing this. Your damage could have also been worse had you not been using it, so that is not a foregone conclusion. good luck.
Ayesha my heart breaks for you. Your hair will come back, you have gorgeous genetics, your hair routine is beautiful, you can reverse the damage, and your new growth will come in beautiful and undamaged.
Girl it's okay. When things are over hyped you just start believing with famous social media influencers using products and promoting them in such an unrealistic way. So glad for you to come out and speak the truth.
@@lizlemon8035 she just said I realised there is a problem and is addressing it now. I just got to the 14:00 mark... omg, my hair looks like that too after a few hours. Although mine is wayyy thinner. I lost at least half of my volume before I realized it was Devacurl doing it.
Do not throw away your DevaCurl products. Save them. I believe there will be a testing phase for the class action lawsuit. You may be compensated for your hair loss and scalp issues.

Can we send photos somewhere? Thank you again for being a voice for this
I never had issues with Devacurl but my hair started growing more when I switched over to Shea moisture

For the people saying that she’s overreacting- not only does she have the right to be upset that a product ruined her hair, but also she’s probably upset that because she was an ambassador she got other women to ruin their hair.

When a women works so hard to maintain her natural hair in a society where we are told natural hair is bad, it’s heartbreaking when all that work goes to waste because of a product line. I’m so so sorry.

People praise curly hair now, thats probably why she started keeping her hair natural in the first place lol
huh? who ever said curly hair is bad? did i miss a memo or what? also, natural hair comes straight too, and tbh last time straight hair was in was a literal decade ago.

Who told you that natural hair is bad??

I think she's under-reacting.
I think she’s just holding it back, especially in the beginning of the video.
frankinsama because they learned that they can’t avoid it, this so something that could of been avoided and it ended up ruining the time and dedication she spent on her hair for YEARSS.
not only that, she was helping promote something that is destroying people’s hair. she probably feels terrible about that 😬
I know their lucky she's not suing

mad ! i never seen diva curl product prices until now just by seeing the price of each product what a catfish !!!
I personally dont think she’s overreacting considering that she spent a huge amount of money on those products and hair can be a huge source of confidence
Totally agree! Hair is our glory.
Everything is at least 24 a bottle. I'D be livid.
It's not overreacting at all when you spend money on an expensive thing
She was also an ambassador and ambassadors wouldn't do this. She sounds like she wants to cry, it makes me so sad
You ain't lying. My hair grows at snail pace. I got like barely a inch of growth in a year
THANK YOU!! When I was in 2nd grade we went to a new shop in town. My hair was down to my ankles. We told the hair dresser to cut just above my butt. Well, she wasn't paying attention or something because she cut my hair like 2009 Justin Bieber! And it grew out into a mullet!!! 😭😭😭
Now I only go to a trusted family friend who's a professional and is part of a small business. She fixed it. Now, at almost 20, it took so long!! It's now mid back! I'm so happy it's gotten this long.
My hair is pretty much straight a little bit wavy but it takes super long for my hair to grow and I have pretty much straight hair but it is super thick
10 years to grow 20 inches, SAME gurl. my hair is only 24 inches long >STRAIGHT< and I've never chopped it off in my life and i am 20!!!!!
I might be late but AGREED

1k like (if u care)
I don't have curly hair, I feel respect and love for it is so gorgeous. My brother an sister do and I love it .
I’ve spent 4 years trying to get my curls back. If I ever loose them now. I’d cry!!! 😭😭😭
Not really my curl comes and goes all the time and my hair still looks wonderful it’s really not that difficult unless you have C hair
Same girl. Bleaching my hair killed my waves
Same. As i realized that my curls are fading (i guess its damage) i panicked. Trying to fix it.

For the people talking smack about her emotional relationship with her hair: when someone takes the time to establish a relationship with not only themselves but their identity, what they’ve built their self love on and have that taken from them unexpectedly ( whether it’s medical issues, life predicament, or what have you)
Things like that change you.
Please, if my hair fell out I would have a freaking fit as much time and money I have invested in my hair. Her emotional response is reasonable.
Edmen Franky my hair is the only thing I like about my physical appearance. The only thing I get complements on.
DNA don’t make her seem likes villain because she loves her hair. just because you’re baldhead or thin haired and don’t care doesn’t mean that you can dictate how a person should feel. what kind of person says that some deserves something like this??! how does it feel to legit be a bad person

For some women hair is a huge cultural and personal thing and it’s been that way for a very long time, and in many different religions and societies.
shouldnt be... hair dont define your beauty...
Nakisha a lot of people are insecure about it, she should be mad if she loves her hair:(
@@nakishadixon6848 Nevertheless it is a crown
Nakisha it doesn’t but it’s something that makes a girl her, it’s a part of you.

I hate how she’s getting hate because she cares how she looks with her hair, like you don’t understand she said she started her curly hair journey at THIRTEEN how old is she now in her 20s?! And now all of a sudden all that effort and hard working trying to get her hair back to being healthy to have it stripped away just like that... it’s so sad she’s worked so hard and now it’s like she has to start over... i feel so bad for her😞
Plus as women our hair is everything, it just is. 🤷🏼♀️
Isn’t she a curly hair influencer? Her hair is her job and her source of income!! people can be such dipsh*ts 🤦🏻♀️
I agree but dude, being this attached to your hair is just...sad. It's like her own identity depends on her hair. If you can't upload a picture with your idol because your 'hair doesn't look good' that's pretty lame. I think her hair still looks fine.
Maybe she should have created this video sooner
@d b You can do rinse, spray, etc dye that doesn't disrupt the shafts. In that case, it would be no different from hair spray.
Oh my god I’m so sorry.. losing all your hair seems like a nightmare. I hope your okay now :)

How’s your hair now?? I’m so sorry you went through this. Is it getting any better?

@@MusicWillSaveYou oh I’m sorry to hear that. Have you tried the olaplex 3? I’m not sure if it does much for hair growth but it repairs damaged hair really well
Really thought she was exaggerating.... until she showed her hair after 8 hours. Omg. Wow that’s heartbreaking.
Katie Chambers i did too. But yea that’s unacceptable after 8 hours that shouldn’t be until like day 5 geez if that.
Same... Gagged.
Deva Curl sending her "Wavy Hair" products when she is CLEARLY a curly girl made me flip a table.....
That's shocking.
Her hair has a very loose curl even before the damage it’s not that deep
Let me guess, a private equity firm bought them and decided to “improve” the margins by changing the formula to cheap crap.
Yup they did the same to Carols Daughter

It really does become a part of your identity because it takes up so much of your time
100% facts. Coming from a curly haired girl, my curls ARE my identity

there’s a hairstylist that is currently beginning a lawsuit against devacurl because of this!!!

Products aren’t supposed to ruin your hair. That’s just horrible and Devacurl is just being silent.
And for the people saying “It’S jUsT HAiR, iT wiLL gRow BAcK.”
NO.
Also scalp damage might not grow your hair back the same, if at all.
@@cindysnow802 it doesn't especially with chemical damage
It's never about it'll grow back, people should really stop with this. Hair never gets healthy again

Girl.. when companies get big and rich, they start changing up the ingredients as well.
It still doesn't change the fact that they damaged girls hair
Isn't that crazy? It really does seem like every time I really like a company, they're good when they start off small. And when they get big, they get greedy and everything changes.
They think that we are too stupid to notice that they started using cheaper ing ingredients. Goldwell is good at that.
Arielle Macuch right. they get money then start to use cheaper ingredients to save money.
I think this happens when real people start a business and are great at what they do so they build something sucessful. Then the business vultures who don't give an f about curly hair buy it as an "investment", make it public, and then their mission becomes to make more money for the share holders every year. Its parasitic capitalism
Seeing the 8 hours later was soooo heartbreaking.

I mean if I had hair like she has before this I woulda been pissed too. Her natural hair was a dream for me as a kid.
Seems like they started to use cheaper ingredients for a larger profit.
Alicia How awww thats heart breaking switch to a good company with great review sooo important to do research!!! ☻
Who would comment on someone's hair thinning?? Hopefully not random strangers!
@@andreahardy7373 I was about to write the same thing! I would say only a concerned mom is allowed to make this comment.
ocandro or a BFF
try briogeo, it works amazing on my super fine wavy/curly hair. they use amazing ingredients and although it a bit expensive, it worth it.
Like hell yeah she has got every goddamn right to be pissed off!
wlz5234 yep that stuff is hair ruining! it did the same to my hair
CurlNinja is a curly hair specialist and used to be a huge advocate for DevaCurl. After seeing the damage that it’s done to her and her clients, she’s been speaking out about DevaCurl for months now.
MONTHS!
Sherry Daniel Yep. Since August, actually!!
To anyone saying she's overreacting. Her entire life is around having beautiful curly hair. She's a beauty UA-camr. It's part of her and who she is.
Elizabeth Vaughn Thats fucking weird tho curt hair isent a personality trait
melophobia imagine working on something since you were little. You have memories of your and you're mom washing it together. It's been your safety blanket since you were 9. One day, you completely ruin it. I would cry for about an hour.
@@Mor3dark0 so I guess you wouldn't mind if you went bald.. Rude.
@@elizabethvaughn5694 Going bald is not comparable to having less pretty curls. Get outta here.
I'm truly sorry for you :'(
The after 8 hours hair shocked me, I cannot imagine the stress of putting all this money and work into your hair only for these results.
A lot of these expensive brands are trash in disguise.
I'm always telling folk
monica fleming I agree. But sometimes they are really good! Like Indian Aztec clay masks.
Totally. Do your own research and make your own products. My hair has never been healthier.
@@fiddymommy have you made anything to grow thicker hair that you are willing to share, please : )
@@maranathaacts1327 I watched a ton of you tube vids and figured out which oils worked for what I wanted. Black castor oil, neem oil, coconut oil all for starters. I put them on over the weekend and my hair feels thicker and healthier.
when your curls look like hers after Devacurl ruined hers... but you never used Devacurl 😩
Yo my hair is like her hair after diva curls my hair used to look so healthy and nice but after they changed the formula of my shampoo and conditioner a few years ago I haven’t been able to get the best products.i found two that work fine but it not the same results
I know right??
Honestly though!
Right my shits been damaged lol
Feel ya :(
I feel for the “I finally felt like I was in a ‘safe relationship’.” This was the video I needed to stop using the products...
Hello beautiful knock knock my name is Bryan how's the weather over there
Last thing I need to add is that I am a professional stylist specializing only in curls and I have diagnosed over 100 cases of severe DevaCurl damage IN PERSON in my chair.
Stephanie and Dennis Mero hopefully you never stop to #recalldevacurl @thecurlninja 💛 you are making a change people are speaking !
Hi what do you recommend for curly hair?
@@equestrianmaddy3654 Watch their youtube channel ua-cam.com/channels/LmvUvQYsrlDXzJ2KI6nZ1g.html
Ugh, why. ive been using the products off and off (cause it's expensive), but the item I used the most was the gel. I didn't think that my hair falling out may be the gel. I thought it might have been cause I was just getting older. I'm so sad 😔.
I hope more people see this comment. ☺️
Ayesha, this is such a comeback video for you. Don’t take this the wrong way but right now you’re on a wave and I’d love to see you take your channel in a new direction. Please make videos about your journey recovering from devacurl. Show us how you’re trying to get your curls back.
Please do this, Ayesha! I need to get my hair back too, so many of us do and we’re all stronger together
SAME SAME SAME 😭
dirtfreak59 the company needs to be held accountable for this
D s me too!!! Thyroid test, dermatologist and nutritionist. All came back normal.
Nicole Kehew yes!!! Especially the thyroid test and I was really worried
Tatiana Watkins Shea Moisture is the best !!
@@denise8791 It's fair trade. Please tell me you know what that means 🤦
I recently read that shea moisture was bought/partially bought by a new company and their formula has changed for the worse
I have curly hair and this is absolutely heartbreaking to see someone with such amazingly beautiful curls lose those curls because of devacurl
Me too, because I know nothing other than rewashing and conditioning will fix it :(
I’m 3b in front, 2b in back and yep it sucks to have a bad hair day. It’s so hard to deal with fr! I typically ponytail it
Same ill have no will to do anything
Minimal Assembly I’ve been using OLAPLEX for over a year now. Most people with curly hair know about OLAPLEX.
Well has it helped the damage to your hair?
Minimal Assembly I’ve only had one wash since I’ve stopped using DevaCurl. I’m not sure yet if it will help. Clearly it was not helping while I was using DevaCurl.
Look I understand that you’re upset about your hair. I’m just trying to be helpful. It’s good to know that OLAPLEX may not be the solution for other women experiencing this. Your damage could have also been worse had you not been using it, so that is not a foregone conclusion. good luck.
It's okay Ayesha. Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is how we deal with those mistakes and you did the right thing. Thank you. We love you!
She promoted them herself though. She was part of the problem.
@@lizlemon8035 she just said I realised there is a problem and is addressing it now. When others are promoting it as the best curly hair product and influencers "who are trusted" why not join as well. What happened, happened in the past. She's apologising and sharing the truth. I don't blame her it takes courage to do that.
@Lisa crawford the company is the problem not the influencers.
Sorry to be off topic, but your makeup is so elegant and beautiful
She is so elegant and beautiful!!
Ahmarnie Stanley 👈🏾That’s what I said! Her make-up is on point!
I was not expecting the difference. That’s crazy.
I just got to the 14:00 mark... omg, my hair looks like that too after a few hours. Although mine is wayyy thinner. I lost at least half of my volume before I realized it was Devacurl doing it.
