Monkee-mania began in Los Angeles in 1965 when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, the late Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones were cast in the eponymous television series about a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. The quartet brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway and country to their resulting music. By the time the series aired its final episode on March 25, 1968, The Monkees had sold 16 million albums and 7.5 million singles. Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

Buying a Blu-ray player tomorrow--my box set is coming tomorrow. Where exactly on the box should we be looking for the number of the box? I'm anxious to see what number I get.
I received my box set today. I do not see any individual numbering for the set anywhere at all. Also the inner packaging that holds the discs arrived with tears at all 4 corners of the gold cardboard. Not a big problem, but who wants to see torn cardboard in a just-opened set? Finally, the vinyl single is a nice bonus, except that I don't have a vinyl player anymore. Perhaps the tracks on the 45 single are available on the bonus disc? I haven't started watching yet (still working from home) but I can't wait to finally see the shows in HD.
Sorry, just noticed a number 05146 on the back page of the episode guide booklet. I'm not sure if this is the set number or not. Anyone else seeing a different number there?

If someone has both the Blu-Ray and the old DVD set, is the new set worth having if you already have the DVD's? Is the audio/video quality superior?
Definitely yes. They used some crummy prints of some of the episodes on the old DVD set. They spent a lot of time and money locating the original negatives for the Blu-Ray set, so please buy it!
Also the sound is not as "hissy" as the previous DVDs.... Definitely cleaned up picture - colors are more vibrant and brighter. Really pops out on the later episodes. I'm also really psyched that it has a "PLAY ALL" Feature and no loud menu music.
i live in Mexico, all we have is Amazon but Amazon will not sell it☹️ only 1 third party seller trying to sell it for 500$ 😢 looks like i just missed out…☹️

I just got mine. The inner gold box is a bit torn and frayed. Frankly, I could have done without the fancy packaging. It's the content that matters. So far, awesome! Clearly a lot of work went into this and it shows. Thanks to everyone involved. Thanks to Rhino for keeping the spirit alive all these years. A big Thank You to Micky, Peter, Michael and Davy, for 50 years of great music and warm smiles.
So cool how they got "Thing" & a relative to open the box! I thought he retired in the 60's.

That box doesn't appear to be destroyed like so many of the others.
Mine had a few small rips but nothing major I guess they are delaying future sets until it is fixed.

One thing I found is missing/changed...part of the medley from 33 1/3 RPM. Due to publishing issues, "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On" was cut. I wonder if that had something to do with the delay.

I just got my box set. Opened it up like in the video above. The inner gold box does not look like it does in the video. Mine's crushed and torn on the right side. Do I send it back and wait yet again? *sigh*
My inner box is also crushed and ripped. Not a cool way to see $200.00 spent (for collector purposes). I sent an e-mail to monkeesstore@warnermusic.com not sure if they will respond...

BUT they are in double protective sleeves! LOL!
This looks VERY similar to the original DVD box set that came in the two separate "record cases" with the discs in sleeves. A set which has most of the same extras as this. Plus, I don't own a blu-ray player, but even if I did... I may be a big Monkees fan, but this set is not worth $200. I'd consider buying a blu-ray just for this at maybe $100. However, for now, I have my original DVDs in slim jewel cases to protect them & they are perfectly fine. And you know what, they LOOK fine, too. I had a whopping 4 episodes in the mid-80s until the VHS set came out. I've bought the entire series twice... not doing it a third time, unless you really twist my arm with a good price. Just my two cents. Your mileage may vary.
I really need this Blu-Ray set . But it really sucks . They no longer have it . It's out of print . :(
You can still get it secondhand (I did recently), but keep in mind that the prices will be way over what the original price was when it released ($200).

I understand. That's too much for a Blu-ray for some people. But then again, it was only 10,000 copies and will likely never be made again, which is a shame as I'm sure there are plenty of Monkees fans who would love to buy a copy and support the band's legacy.
@@isabellew989 I got a set today for £250 ($339) and, even though it's minus the box and the 7" single, It does have the booklet and I was happy to get it. I think I will recoup some of my money when I sell my region 2 copy of Head and my region 4 set of season 2.
oooh I want to see a scan of the booklet of what everything inside is offered, then i might be enriched to get one ordered. Are you listening RHINO?
They should have pulled the laugh track off of ALL the episodes.

does anyone have anything to say about the outtakes? just wondering what it could be since they seemed like outtakes in 1968
I have watched the head outtakes lots of alternate song outtakes and the harem scene is a little racier with close ups of belly dancing etc. And there are screen tests with different actors auditioning for the monkees
The "Oh My My" video doesn't look "Restored" like they said. More like "Discovered" Same goes for the commercials.... the first Kool Aid ad looks cool. A lot of the Saturday AM song replacements are featured on the Bonus Disc and not on the discs where the episodes appear other than (from what I can tell) "Royal Flush" and "Monkees On Tour".
Also worth Noting is that they cut out "A Whole Lotta Shaking Going On" from the "Rock And Roll Medley" during the "33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee" Special due to "Publishing Issues" (according to the liner notes in the book that comes with the box)
That is probably what caused the delay the evil music rights.
