I was so glad the Monkees did this special. It was well-produced and well-liked by the critics. I made darn sure that my grade-school kids watched this and tapes of the 60s TV show. I wanted them to enjoy the Monkees like I did when I was their age. I grew more fond of them than I did the Beatles because I got to visit them once a week. We were lucky to see anything from the Beatles once a year. Kudos to the Monkees. You had a good run.
que hermoso es volver a ver a mis Monkees tan maravillosos y de grande yo los vi de jóvenes tan lindos ahora acá los veo maduritos pero siguen con su encanto natural están en mí corazón por siempre.
Man! How did I miss this in 97? I would have loved to have seen this. Their story is the most unique story ever. They started out not as a real Rock group, but Evolved into one. (Pardon the Pun) And they just get better with age. I always in a way felt sorry for them because they so wanted respect in the Rock world. In some small way they achieved some respect. No it will never be on the level of the Stones or even the Kinks, but you know they were what they were.
Some say it was the TV show that hurt them, others say it was the deception. I think it could have been a combination of a lot of things. But the bottom line was the music. I forever believe that if the "Monkees" could have written and produced some really cool songs on their own, none of that other stuff would have mattered. The songs they had just were not up to par. Although Nesmith wrote some pretty good stuff like "Listen to the Band." "Sunny Girlfriend" "Circle Sky".
Oh boy... I worked on this show. The first time they tried to shoot this scene on the beach, a lite drizzle turned into a full out rain. We had to cancel the shoot and head indoors & scramble to shoot the "Throw Up" scene.
I understand the thing about taking down parts of the episode. I got suspendeded b/c I posted the entire Six Million Dollar Man pilot movie called "The Moon and the Desert." But I remember the night this came on. It was the year before we got DirecTV, and we were still using an aerial for TV. The nearest ABC affiliate to us was 3 hrs away in Pittsburgh. I was all over town looking for someone with cable!!!
gracias por devolverme a mis Monkees estoy en Argentina y me encantaría lo pasarán en algún canal otro vez .Gracias por poder verlos en mí celular la próxima en castellano por favor y Gracias
@bradpix Nice to have details about the shoot. The Monkees Show was the very first TV series I watched on my own and wasn't tuned in because my parents watched it.
Davy Jones the heartthrob of the 60's. What was so amazing to me was the Shirley Jones being his mother. I use to watch Hay Hay with "The Monkees", every Saturday morning. I just wish I still had my Monkees lunch box that I had back in them days!
Oohkay. Shirley Jones was not Davys mom. Shirley was David Cassidy's Stepmom and also played his mom on TV. Davy's mom Doris died when Davy was 14 - in England
am I the only one who thinks Mike's "once every 5 years or so" comment was his way of hinting at the band's disgust of the scripts from the old series?
Nesmith, at the time I'm typing this, is on tour with the First National Band and doing conventions like the badass he is. Dolenz is hot on twitter. Peter is on Facebook. Davy is on Heaven Wifi; just pray, he'll get your message.
Shirley Jones was David Cassidy's stepmother. She was not related to Davy Jones. I remember this special, I just wish all 5 parts were uploaded. Part 4 is still missing. This special had to do with the release of their album Justus ( the last one with all 4 members) I will miss Davy Jones so much. thanks for posting.
Shirley Jones was the Step-mother of David Cassidy and the mother of Shaun Cassidy. David Bowie changed his name from Jones to Bowie because of the popularity of Davey Jones.
Peter: No Sandwich if the pig talks sandwiches wouldn't work. ROFL! Woman: Once, hundreds of years ago, four guys moved into this house and went crazy, and never moved out. ROFL! Great story. :)
I think Mike was their writing strength. If they had just gave him Cart blanch on the music and working with the group you might have seen somthing a little better. But this was their destiny.
Yeah! Mike is all changed, even his voice has changed, the tone, the accent and all. Everything that I love about him is gone.... :( Good thing at least Micky is still good ol' Micky! :D
@squirm13 i was saying there were THREE things out at that time - the tv special which pretended it was just another Monkees episode, 30 years later (i have a copy i taped from tv when it was one, then there is the commercially-released Rhino VHS called JUSTUS, and then theres the Disney special bio called "Hey hey We're The Monkees". I've been collecting since 74, I'd be happy to help with any questions if I can! Dyu have all the albums yet?
@teresarushlo2009 - Dude, seriously? Shirely Jones, the american actress, is only 11 years older than Davy. NOT his mother. Jones is a common name. There are lots of people in Hollywood that are not all related.
@cleancab Out of all four of them, Mike tended to be the one who didn't want to do reunions. Given that he probably inherited his mom's inheritance for Liquid Paper (Yes, she invented it) among other business successes, it would be to do it more for love). He wasn't the first one to leave the band though - it actually was Tork.
UA-cam took them down. I can't re-upload them without risking complete suspension, so I'm leaving these parts up so that some of it is here at least. ;/
@squirm13 send link - i can tell ya..... There was a Disney biography out at the time, this TV special, and a VHS called "JUSTUS"; each very different from each other.
@JobinatGH And for that matter, David Bowie's deal name is David Jones. Do you think that Shirley is also his mother? Or that he used to be a Monkee? Please do your research before posting, don't spread ignorance.
They all has musical talent in the 60's but the producers (the money backing the show) wanted to be safe and hire writers and musicians. I always liked them. I had the hand puppet!
@RevSpike i have a biography from uk channel 4, which was very in depth, and another one, but not seen the disney one, or the justus one, which i will probably get.
The taller guy is Michael Nesmith? If he is he looks so different as when was young, the rest haven't change much, just look older, but all still look cute.
I was so glad the Monkees did this special. It was well-produced and well-liked by the critics. I made darn sure that my grade-school kids watched this and tapes of the 60s TV show. RIP not only Peter, but Papa Nes 🙏
@kurtbaird--Such a great idea! What a wonderful teacher!
Such good times!❤
Davy as Ethel Merman: PURE GOLD. Miss ya, honey.
As he plays this lovely woman, Davy looked like somebody beloved grandmother, don't worry I meant that in a good way.
Man! How did I miss this in 97? I would have loved to have seen this. Their story is the most unique story ever. They started out not as a real Rock group, but Evolved into one. Wow! Davy as Ethel Merman I couldn't stop laughing:)
he will for ever be in our heart's r.i.p Davey u will be missed
A sad day for all... RIP Davy Jones.
I saw you live in concert in Melbourne Australia many years ago....!
@3:15 " We're the Monkees " yes they will always be my boys :)
"This is the 3rd dimension, wich is normal. Well... monkees normal."
Hey Mickey So sorry bout Davy Am watching old talk shows when reunion happened U we're the true talent And I loved u growing up
@cleancab - Actually, Nez wrote and directed the program. It had also been his idea to do "JustUs" as well.
I love how Peter copys Chico when he starts playing the piano.
Thanks for having it here. I wouldn't have known it existed if not for you.
Some say it was the TV show that hurt them, others say it was the deception. I think it could have been a combination of a lot of things. But the bottom line was the music. Davy always looks way too good as a woman.
Now it looks a way too suspicious. Personally, I can not find his number an amusing one.
This is pretty good...
Typical Monkey madness!!!! LOVE IT!!!!
It really is. They took down parts one and two. If I ever find the damn thing again, I'll try and get it up somewhere else...
Oh boy... I worked on this show. The first time they tried to shoot this scene on the beach, a lite drizzle turned into a full out rain. We had to cancel the shoot and head indoors & scramble to shoot the "Throw Up" scene.
How’d they interact offscreen?
"we just need to do MUSIC!"
liked.
Love the 60's Monkeemobile.
The 4 dimension to me seems cool and "Flash back " :)
gracias por devolverme a mis Monkees estoy en Argentina y me encantaría lo pasarán en algún canal otro vez .Gracias por poder verlos en mí celular la próxima en castellano por favor y Gracias
Omg It's "The Most Prestigious Country Club In the World"!
For Reals!
you may be confused....Shirley Jones IS the step mom of David Cassidy and the mom to his 1/2 brother Shawn Cassidy...both singers/actors in the 70's.
This is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
@bradpix Nice to have details about the shoot. The Monkees Show was the very first TV series I watched on my own and wasn't tuned in because my parents watched it.
How could I forget Davy in drag!
@solidfoamsoul thanks so much for keeping up what you have, I'm enjoying watching it :)
Davy's mom Doris died when Davy was 14 - in England
good this is the Monkees after 30 odd years and look good.
am I the only one who thinks Mike's "once every 5 years or so" comment was his way of hinting at the band's disgust of the scripts from the old series?
Hard to believe 3 of them are gone now.
mel Brookes should have been involved with this the Monkees really still had it so many years later
This is not a pipe... This is not a band... ROFL!
And Davey....we will miss him.
The Monkees Alive at present: Micky Donlez, Peter Tork, (Michael Nesmith??), Dead: David (Davy) Jones.
Nesmith, at the time I'm typing this, is on tour with the First National Band and doing conventions like the badass he is. Dolenz is hot on twitter. Peter is on Facebook. Davy is on Heaven Wifi; just pray, he'll get your message.
Micky and Mike are touring as a duo for the month of June.
Davy as Ethel Merman. Holy crap on toast!
Shirley Jones was the Step-mother of David Cassidy and the mother of Shaun Cassidy. David Bowie changed his name from Jones to Bowie because of the popularity of Davey Jones.
Davy dressed in drag a couple of times. check out the episode, "Some Like It Lukewarm". He was in drag for most of that one.
Peter: No Sandwich if the pig talks sandwiches wouldn't work.
ROFL!
Woman: Once, hundreds of years ago, four guys moved into this house and went crazy, and never moved out.
ROFL! Great story. :)
awesome. I love these guys!!! :)
The other guys dressed up in drag in the old show too. This time it was Davy's turn.
I think Mike was their writing strength. If they had just gave him Cart blanch on the music and working with the group you might have seen somthing a little better. But this was their destiny.
"Day Dream Beliver" is the Monkees best recorded effort in my opinion.
arr, rest in Peace Davy lad x
Okay, the scary part is that Davy looked just like my Great Aunt Ginny... scary shit man, scary shit
how the hell did I miss this !
Who in their right mind stands on a beach wishing they were in antarctica?
Love the zaniness
In it's own way - just as strange as 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee! Saw this back in 1997. WHY won't they release this on DVD?!?
Even in the 90 Davy will always be a good looking woman
Really, beside, Davy Jones's mother died in England, when Davy was fourteen years old.
Yeah! Mike is all changed, even his voice has changed, the tone, the accent and all. Everything that I love about him is gone.... :( Good thing at least Micky is still good ol' Micky! :D
carocatho I think he has his twang, not as strong though.
@@angelashock9837 Still told I have my twang even after years in exile (!)But I know it's not as strong.
Davy IS MISSED DEEPLY! :'(
And Peter now too.
9
Wrong "heartthrob" - Shirley Jones was the STEPmother of fellow heartthrob David Cassidy ("The Partridge Family").
@JadenYukifan28 Why would Mike Nesmith force you -tube to take down this tv special from 1997?
@teresarushlo2009 Shirley Jones is the mother of David & Shawn Cassidy. David was on The Partridge Family with her and Shawn had a solo career.
Davy as Ethel wtf!
davy is just so cute
There is a dvd with this title, i dont know if it is this, it is all over the place, ebay etc.
I love these guys but, seriously, their legs need some serious sun! How can four guys who live in a beach house be so darned pale?!
*joking!*

@squirm13 send link - i can tell ya..... There was a Disney biography out at the time, this TV special, and a VHS called "JUSTUS"; each very different from each other.
Yeah, but it provided quite a chuckle!
@JobinatGH And for that matter, David Bowie's deal name is David Jones. Do you think that Shirley is also his mother? Or that he used to be a Monkee? Please do your research before posting, don't spread ignorance.
I hope Rhino releases this on DVD at some point!!
They all has musical talent in the 60's but the producers (the money backing the show) wanted to be safe and hire writers and musicians. I always liked them. I had the hand puppet!
@jcall811 That's because that just so Monkees to do that...If you don't get it, it can't be explained to you.
@WhovianRentPhan13 Actually, he looks better than I do with or without makeup. Shiver, even moreso now for the fright factor.
r.i.p davy
@solidfoamsoul Shirley Jones is Shaun Cassidy's mother, David Cassidy's step mother. She is American, and very clearly NOT Davy Jones' mother.
@RevSpike i have a biography from uk channel 4, which was very in depth, and another one, but not seen the disney one, or the justus one, which i will probably get.
1:40 Arctic Monkees? I videotaped this at the time, but I didn't have great reception, so it was a bit grainy. Still, it was very good.
Davy has nice legs, and he still could play a nice looking woman, some like it hot.
I agree and has beautiful legs too.
cool, so how was it working with the monkees?
The 4th dimension reminded me a bit of Elephant Parts
@cleancab I highly doubt that. Mike's mom invented Liquid Paper. When she died in 1980, she left half of her $47 million to him.
Antarctica is like Python..
does anyone know what beach that is??
The taller guy is Michael Nesmith? If he is he looks so different as when was young, the rest haven't change much, just look older, but all still look cute.
@tootletoo I sooooooo agree with you Toot!!!!!
i swear that i have this on vhs!!!
we need part 4 so we can see Chuck Woolery coming out
@solidfoamsoul Sirley Jones is David Cassidy's step mom!
what did you do in terms of this special
WHAT HAPPEND TO PART 4?? OF THIS VIDEO?!!! IT GOES FROM PARTS 1,2,3, BUT MISSISING PART 4 !!! WTF???!! IS UP WITH THIS??!!!!!!!
