@moniqueengleman873 Did you ever read the book with the Monkees as the unsuspecting heroes ?. The book was called "Who's Got The Button". It was given to me when I was 10. I loved all the Monkees albums. Used to cut their records out of the back of Kringles cereal boxes. I have 6 of their albums. I got them all at once by a teenage girl in 1971. I was 9. I think I read that book about 10 or more times, lol. It actually was well written, especially for that sort of book. It all started with a telegram. Then, all four of them found themselves following clues that lead them to an underground network, I do mean the real under the earth underground where there was a sort of parallel civilization led by a Monarchy. I'm 60 now, but that's part of how it begins.
Right now Mickey is presenting his perspective on his coworkers who have passed away. This song with Mickey's past history allows us to see unaired moments of his life in a well executed version of REM's least favorite song. Great job!
This is wonderful. He made it a Monkees song as if Davy, Peter, and Mike were right with him. I wish this were played from the mountaintops. We so need this right now.

It was funny because my cart had cokes and snack cakes and his car is full of produce and healthy stuff. When I was a kid growing up in St. Louis in the 1960s and 70s. My uncle was a progressive rock Drummer. So I was playing drums at age 5. Back then the monkees where are the only goes on TV that really had long hair. These guys were the modern-day Marx brothers of their time. Pure genius and character and soul. Mickey’s voice is iconic. I’ve spent a lot of time in RCA recording studio here in Nashville. This arrangement is BRILLIANT. Absolutely *fantastic*. There's an argument here that this version is better than the original and I say that as a huge R.E.M. fan.
He took a song that even R.E.M. said was written as a lark and turned into a real song with peaks and valleys and more depth in the melody than was there - and the melodic shifts are SO smart. I'm not sure if Dolenz, himself, did this arrangement, but whoever did is a genius.@@scottroberts6781
Along with the prejudice and rock-and-roll snobbery concerning the "Pre-fab Four" having completely dissipated (except where the foul RnR Hall Of Fame is concerned, of course), there's been an infrequent yet inspiring stream of Monkees-related material released (e.g., GOOD TIMES!, CHRISTMAS PARTY, THE MIKE AND MICKY SHOW, THE LOST RCA VICTOR RECORDINGS, DOLENZ SINGS NESMITH) that serves to remind people just how special the band and its individual members were. This take on "Shiny Happy People" adds to the oeuvre in the most joyous of fashions. Hey, if MICHAEL STIPE - who, with the rest of R.E.M. disliked the song with a vengeance - went on record saying he actually loves this version of the song, then you know Micky, Christian, Andrew, and the crew did something right!!) No, the other three aren't here, but Lord have mercy, you can feel them and the Monkees spirit in all four-plus minutes of this song. Thank you, Micky, a.k.a. Last Monkee Standing.
I'll never get over the fact that REM said the original song was inspired by the Monkees and now we have this magic. My heart is so full

I am a huge R.E.M fan and hate this song with a passion. This cover is amazing and makes me love the song!
I love Micky Dolenz ❤
Shining our collective soul with a musical tickle.
This arrangement is BRILLIANT. Absolutely *fantastic*. There's an argument here that this version is better than the original and I say that as a huge R.E.M. fan.
I'm right there with you. You will find no greater defender of REM than myself, but this is probably superior to the original.
Brilliant!
Hey, if MICHAEL STIPE - who, with the rest of R.E.M. disliked the song with a vengeance - went on record saying he actually loves this version of the song, then you know Micky, Christian, Andrew, and the crew did something right!!)
No, the other three aren't here, but Lord have mercy, you can feel them and the Monkees spirit in all four-plus minutes of this song. Thank you, Micky, a.k.a. Last Monkee Standing.
I can't really take the R&R hall of fame seriously for so many more reasons than their anti-monkee stance.
Like Pinocchio, the puppet who became a real boy, the Monkees were TV puppets who became a real band.
I had such a crush on Mickey back in the day❤️. So wonderful to have your childhood on film…your youth…beautiful video
Since I was young!
Was just thinking about Circus Boy Mickey Dolenz- love ya Mickey !!
