Man I can’t believe this news. Came back to this one as it was my first time hearing Shaun and it was powerful. Heard him many times live since and his presence was huge musically and otherwise. Rest well Shaun ❤
😢
This song is the gold standard for me as a Snarky Puppy fan. Shaun's work on the Hammond is brought a little more forward in this remix which makes me very happy. May he live in the clouds and think of him when it rains as it is angels listening to him play and shedding tears of enjoyment.
It was very shocking...he was only 43...
My favorite organ solo,, RIP Shaun
If you're here watching this music video in 2024, we all know why. I have always got chills from this song, now even more knowing I will never hear a new Shaun Martin solo like this again. At least we have these videos and albums Shaun helped create to remember him by. Don't forget to appreciate his solo music as well. My favorite tune of his is The Yellow Jacket. RIP Shaun. You will be deeply missed by so many people.
Yes!! I played The Yellow Jacket over and over when that 7Summers CD was released.... Shaun was not only a musical genius, He was a great Man. I attended the Church where he was Minister of Music....❤ Rest Well Shaun Martin
His words in Introduction and Madiba Monologue hit hard and now harder.
Right on. Listening to a lot of Snarky Puppy lately after hearing about his death. Hope you're wailing away in heaven sir!
RIP Shaun Martin!!
As long as this song/video is available to watch, we will have Shaun with us. This is my favorite song by this great band. They were all so young and just getting their footing at this time. RIP Shaun. Thanks for all of the music today and beyond.😓
RIP Shaun, a true legend and a huge inspiration for me and many more..
All-time favorite Snarky tune. -Just grooves the whole friggin time.
I couldn't agree more!
Correct!
stank face all they way!!
You have ONE favorite Snarky title?!? That is impossible! There can´t be ONE :D
It grooves and it takes me to cloud 9! I get ASMR from this song, seriously.
After missing for a while, this video is finally back on youtube!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite Snarky Puppy video. So glad it is back!
true
I was wondering where the hell it went....
that hammond solo!🔥
@@lupanovil yesssss
Snarky Puppy at its raw, elemental, soulful best. Back when they were young and hungry.
Have you listened to Bet lol😂
Rest in peace, genius. ❤
Rip Shaun. I only got to see you live a few times, but the way you hyped up the crowd was unmatched. He made a jazz show feel like I was watching Michael Jackson.
Just love from 5.06 to 5.20 minute mark Shaun’s left hand palm disdainfully slaps the organ keys without fear of making a mistake. Awesome.
Shaun doesn't play the organ. Shaun *IS* the organ!
That's the point, you just slap or slide random keys. It's more of a rhythmic/sound effect, can't really make a mistake lol
There are no mistakes in jazz! :)
Oh hells to the bells yeah!
and how, a little later, Justin turns around and looks at Shaun admiringly
For some reason this song just brings a tear to my eyes it's so good and Shauns organ solo is one of the reasons.
Rest in Peace maestro❤this solo is so goddamn brilliant and organic and musical. Shaun Martin is a legend
That auxiliary percussion does such an incredible job of filling out the space. Amazing song!
Man, Shaun's organ solo here could easily go toe-to-toe w/ CH's Lingus solo. So tasty
It did go toe to toe, they are both incredible organ players! Wow!
@ Conor Reed...Yes, I love CH's playing, but Shaun's is from a different planet, his feel is insane!
I would probably compare this solo to cory's on the 3 part tune they did on the sylva album
Not to disrespect anyone, I loved Shaun's solo, but this solo was no match to the lingus solo cory henry played. Again! Not to disrespect anyone!
Mop it
The song that started it all for me! Never would I have guessed, 9 years later, your catalogue is so good I tend to forget about this one now!
I still can't get over how amazing this song is. It's one of those rare songs that is so unique and sounds like nothing else. Super creative, even down to the name of the track!
Also Bill Laurance's "The Real One"
I can't explain how, but the whole video feels so 2010. Like the quality and the outfits and the general look of the setting just makes it so obvious that this was filmed in 2010.
Nearly. 2009
This is one of those songs that feels like every piece is in it's exact right place. Like a constellation that we're lucky to be in the right time and place to see
Yes. It is totally unique and it will never happen again during our lifetime. If it will be regarded as a masterpiece, or just just a piece of music in the future will be more than interesting.
Is perfect for me on the hammock looking at the stars...
I remember the day, the hour, the moment I first saw and heard Michael play a Stevie Wonder cover with Cory Henry, and then tracing YT links through to all the amazing Snarky musicians and beyond. Thank you thank you for rescuing my faith in great music ❤️
How can you possibly not like this unless you don’t understand what great music should sound like?
Like. not love...
Thank God for streaming, this song has been in my head all day
Love Justin's solo accompaniment; he gives the soloist plenty room and adds just right flavor underneath.
Good to see this video back up again. I have a large library of Snarky Puppy music but always enjoy watching this well shot video to see the sheer enjoyment and excitement of the musicians as they feel this track builds and soars. The look on Mike League's face as everything comes together towards the end is priceless. Can't wait for more fresh tunes and your return to Toronto someday. Enjoyed all your shows here so far.
What a sound. And that organ solo was outstanding. 💪🎹
Shaun is incredible
Man i am so glad that this is back on youtube, This was the main video i used to introduce everybody i knew to Snarky Puppy. Yea Shaun!!!
Just saw them live opening for STEELY DAN. They were fantastic. As was STEELY DAN but these guys are my new favorite band. Nobody sounds like these guys. And they do it LIVE all the time. Such great musicians.
Considering spending the money to see them in Chicago in a few weeks. Do you have any idea what the SP lineup was on stage?
@@Diego24fps No but they sounded really good and tight and had nine guys.
Sorry I missed that show; my top five writer/performers back to back.
Wonder why they haven't done something together yet...
I am so thankful for youtube, i dont how i would of found these guys with out it, i dont get out much any more and not many hip places left in my area for music, i mean... not made like this anymore. this is stuff from 30 or 40 years ago... This musicianship at its finest...
Rest in peace Shaun Martin😭😭💔
Just a hecking classy tune.
Whatever you do to the sound of this is engulfed in awesome.
I'm just grateful they exist.
that snare sounds insane 👌😩🔥
HOW CAN YOU SIT THERE SO CALMLY
Oh man... Nice! The beginning sounds like a Steely Dan tune.
🤩👍
Can we all just take a minute to talk about that groove Michael is laying down after his solo?
Even before his solo started you could tell Shaun Martin was going to do something special
When Shaun gets like that, it's like he's giving a master class on how to play keys. "I got this."
#respect
This is what perfection sounds like
Oh man didnt kmow Shaun had passed , RIP thank you for the music Sir 😢
This remix is better than the album version in my opinion. The organ solo on the album is so low in the mix that you can barely tell there's a solo happening at all. I'm sure that's one of the reasons they remixed it. Great song, and really love the guitar melodies at the beginning - so smooth and soulful!
Fender Strats and a Hammond B3 . . . oh so sweet! 🥰
The best thing about this is Mark's hair
😂😂👍🏻👍🏻
He's straight from a Degrassi episode
Man Michael’s base solo is so melodic. Close my eyes and I can hear Wes Montgomery 😊
RIP Shaun. One of a kind ❤
Absolutely one of my favorite Snarky Puppy albums. the funk by all participants is tangible and that drummer, my man sput, is pocket af
What we've all been waiting for...
YESSSS!!! It's back........and breath
Hammond. B. Effing. 3. + Shaun Martin = 🔥🔥🔥
first time hearing, not surprised the trumpet player composed this lol. i love it and i wanna learn it
That intense groove
Amazing. Simply, amazing. The song (still is) and the production.
I like the voices on the Family Dinners - but this instrumental makes nearly goosebumbs 👌 Like it!
Robert ‘Sput’ Searight incredible!
This is just amazing
Rip Shaun
Love this one
One of my favorite SP tunes! I definitely prefer this mix!
they went dumb hard serious in this 1 thanks 4 bringing it back
Zappa would love this!
I'm not sure. We will never know.
Yeah I hear some Zappa in it too
Seriously, this song just makes me happy. 😃
No ego's here , there in it for the pure music , no compromise , thanks Snarky , can I get a Hammond organ here , with a leslie box ?!
watching justin react to shaun's solo reminds me why i became a musician
rip shaun
Thats the tune that got me into Snarky. Still a banger
Wow!!! Shaun......
this is so great
Shaun so good bro!
I waited for this very long time
YES!!! It's finally here!
Rest in Peace Shaun Martin
No way you could "dislike" this video, must have been accidental clicks! Unlimited grooves, I've been cranking this tune since 09 baby!
Yo, this was the song that introduced me to Snarky Puppy for the first time. This track is #Scraight🔥
same my friend showed me this 1
Same! Heard this on the radio many years ago and was hooked instantly.
So groovy!
love it ! great performance, great sound
Fine tune!!! LV
I missed this video so much
Meu, que som lindo! Sem condições!!
Shaun ❤
Shaun is badass ❤️
Shaun💙💙💙
Every time I hear this I think it is a Steely Dan instrumental track!
Nunca voy a olvidar la primera vez que escuche esta canción... todo esta bien. El solo de bajo es lo mejor que me paso en la vida.
Can somebody stop Shaun?!?! Can‘t get over this shit!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
History made.
Вы молодцы, музыка восхитительна!
Os caras são embaçado. Sou fã demais. 🇧🇷
Brasil
wow this is weird.. I've been listening to this for years and something falls in my eye everytime Shaun Martin plays that solo, making me cry. ODD
Essa e top ..Michael ligue manda muito ...
Snarky Puppy tudo de bom.
Amen
Quando vêm no Br 🇧🇷?
Top niveau toujours ! Magnifique ! Sorry i'm Frog !
FYI. On Apple Music (and possibly other streaming platforms), Skate U isn't on there. Whenever I play it, Whitecap starts. Seems like you added the wrong file or something. Just letting you know so it gets fixed. Been loving the remasters. Tell Your Friends is my personal favorite album
Edit: This comment is irrelevant now. I believe the issue was fixed.
yup... Spotify...Amazon too
I misread that, I was like... pfft tell them yourself smh... then I realised lol
Thanks! Yes, we're aware and working on the issue as we type. Glad you were able to find the UA-cam video for the time being!
finally it's back
Love that part from 0:00 - 6:58!
love musicians vs others
Did it really need to be remastered? I loved the drum sound in the original.
Bro same this feels wrong and different
the mixing for shaun’s final part of the solo is WAY better
It was remastered for a very good reason. When they were going to put this whole album onto vinyl they realised the mixes Eric Hartman had worked on disappeared, except the raw audio files. It was necessary to remaster the whole album in order to release the vinyl.
@@simonchidgey3215 Oh wow, I had no idea. It's a shame because I really liked the old mixed. Thanks for the info!
Simon Chidgey good to know
That bass solo gives me Marcus Miller vibes! Damn good!
Highlights of the remix, where there is up-volume on the instruments: (1) 5:44 is the winner, really - that out chord is effing magic. (2) Shaun's high hold note at 5:55 was cool (missing in the original mix) and (3) boosting the sax at the end (starting 6:23) when the original mix favored the trumpet.
Qué barbaridad deu meu!!! Oh my gaddd
