The drummer is awesom....thats my bro TaRon Lockett. He played skins and percussion for Erykah Badu. I sang in a band he formed called Juke Joint Band, he is a beast!!!!
can you please explain what you mean by "word". Does it mean you were not expecting anything from this video however it got you pumped up the first second you listened to it ?
@StompL7, my interpretation of their usage of the word 'word': First instance: "Cool, can't wait to hear this rendition of Skate U!" (excited but calm & collected) Second instance: "OOOH THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING BOUT" (maximum excitement because their expectations were met/exceeded)
Can't really see how people can thumbs down a video of what looks like great musicians expressing themselves through there talent but anyway awesome video guys loved it!!!! 😊👍👍👍👍👍
I think he was trying to pick up the tempo whilst clapping ahead of the beat at the begging of the tune. During Cory's solo he was signalling to the drummer to switch from playing Side Stick to Rimshot on the snare.
I am a huge snarky puppy fan and always will be and they do some very amazing stuff musically.......but I have NEVER heard anything like this at all insane how does michael think of all this stuff. Also, mad respect to cory, michael and that drummer (put a whole new feel to the groove).
lol can you explain the 'the lick' is to me? I've seen it referenced a few times on music by Snarky Puppy, but I still don't really know what it means.
MarcClay, I LOVED how you explained that!! I hear that this beat all the time and know it when i hear but how u explained, was very enlightening!! TY!!
For those of you who don't quite get it. The drummer is bringing a combination of "go-go" music feel as well as a Neo-Soul element known as "slugging" the groove. It allows a slight offset of the drum beat and bass, which provides for a beat that feesl like it stumbles over itself. Drummers like Chris "Daddy" Dave (Robert Glasper Experiment) takes what he is doing to a whole new level by dropping beats especially on the kick to where it is NONSENSICALLY GENIUS!
Taron came in with that great drum groove in the beginning of the song but I love the fill @ 1:45! He broke away without "breaking away" in the song. Plus I love that disco-skating-ring-DC feel (hints the song title: Skate U.
I have to say......THAT IS FIRE!!!!!! I thought this version was better than the original actually. I love Sput on drums, but my friend TaRon Lockett murdered it!!!!!! His pocket was nice and clean, his out-of-the-box fills were executed to perfection. Very nice placement, but not too busy. The neo soul style isnt for everybody but I love the feel it gave the band as a whole.
4:49 i LOVE when Justin and Michael loose their shit when Cory plays a scale *completely* outside. Like how the fuck are we gonna get back on our feet ?
we don't give enough credit to Snarky's percussionist. He plays such huge part in the groove. very subtle shakers and groove
i mean he has a grammy (or is it 2?)... but yea he's amazing and such a good fit
When I saw them live, Michael League called him, “Snarky Puppy’s secret weapon”. Knows exactly how to accompany.
World class! Nate Werth is all time great.
He is amazing
Amen
I'm addicted to this performance. The groove at the beginning is absolutely ridiculous
The drummer is awesom....thats my bro TaRon Lockett. He played skins and percussion for Erykah Badu. I sang in a band he formed called Juke Joint Band, he is a beast!!!!
Yep yep
Just finding out about him now on ‘24 through this vid. Yo he’s legit! Will check him out
It's not everyday you see young people this talented !!! I'm really feeling this ...

I love the unselfish nature of this band they seem to enjoy each others soloing, lend an ear to Justin backing Cory's synth solo: amazing

I just love, love, love that guitar solo to finish.
Me at the start: "Word, Skate U!"
Beat comes in: "OOOOOOOOOOHHHHH WOOOORRRDDDD"
Ryan Brown SAMEEEEE I feel this comment on a spiritual level
can you please explain what you mean by "word". Does it mean you were not expecting anything from this video however it got you pumped up the first second you listened to it ?
@StompL7, my interpretation of their usage of the word 'word':
First instance: "Cool, can't wait to hear this rendition of Skate U!" (excited but calm & collected)
Second instance: "OOOH THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING BOUT" (maximum excitement because their expectations were met/exceeded)

This is Skate U like I've never heard it before... It's incredible how these guys can make a whole new song out of an old one.
I once saw a man sleep an entire Perpetual Groove set away... he was sitting in the very front. Someone should give him an award for sleeping so good.

He was good but not precise.

Damn that boy Corey Henry is killin' this.
Love this!!!! Such a tasteful navigation of grooves!!!! All Good!!!!
That is the sickest way of playing the tambourine. Genius!
Did anyone else notice Michael signaling for the drummer to pick it up during Cory's solo? Perfect and subtle. Good leader.
1:10 as well
Sure did! He's the leader for sure.
league for president
I heard him either clapping too fast, or the band not picking up on his queue to increase the tempo.
I think he was trying to pick up the tempo whilst clapping ahead of the beat at the begging of the tune. During Cory's solo he was signalling to the drummer to switch from playing Side Stick to Rimshot on the snare.
In one word. Perfect. Can't wait to see them in April.
Sick on a thousand different levels! Hats off........
I really enjoyed this track. I love the smooth groove under the whole track while all the the solos are going on.
I am a huge snarky puppy fan and always will be and they do some very amazing stuff musically.......but I have NEVER heard anything like this at all insane how does michael think of all this stuff. Also, mad respect to cory, michael and that drummer (put a whole new feel to the groove).
Lanzetti is a phenomenal guitarist!
I never get tired of listening to this
TRULY A BLESSING FROM GOD NEVER STOP WHAT YA'LL DOING BECAUSE GOD IS MOVING IN YA'LL LIFE GREAT MUSICIANS
Can anyone stop watching this band....I'm hooked and need psychological counseling on how or what to do to stop being addicted....ANY HELP OUT THERE?
Once you're in, you're in.
There is no coming back man, sorry!
You don't need help. Stay addicted.
Gone 2 nutha Z.O.N.E.
there is no cure for a snarky junky
VERY good band! Good to see new players at this level.
That was so awesome. Watching all you skilled musicians play together made me so envious. How I wish I was that talented of a musician.

Absolutely incredible.
MarcClay, I LOVED how you explained that!! I hear that this beat all the time and know it when i hear but how u explained, was very enlightening!! TY!!
Beautifully done... I love the slug on the rhythm...
For those of you who don't quite get it. The drummer is bringing a combination of "go-go" music feel as well as a Neo-Soul element known as "slugging" the groove. this feels so good....this is a SICK groove
Taron and Mike sounded amazing together!! What a pocket they created
OMG!!! Love this!!
I really like how Snarky Puppy's percussionists are so sporadic with their playing. I think I play too regimented... I gotta loosen up a bit
Mark Lettieri and Bob Lanzetti! Idols!

Love them both!!
They have fun. And yet when needed they can dish out musical perfection.
THIS HAS A GO GO FEEL, A GENRE AND STYLE FROM WASHINGTON,D.C, NOT A BAD GROOVE.
4:49 i LOVE when Justin and Michael loose their shit when Cory plays a scale *completely* outside. Like how the fuck are we gonna get back on our feet ?
