      @@jacoba6747 I disagree, Clark and Lex imo represent two kings. Clark being the godlike being he is in terms of raw power and his representation of justice, hope, love and all that is good. While Lex represents power in terms of money political power,/corporate power as well as being a representation of greed, hate, jealousy, and evil.

      I agree with you Lex has truly embrace his darker side when killed Lionel and the moment we see Lex and Clark facing each other Clark see there's no good left in Lex after him committing the act of patricide murder of one's own father I seen how Lionel turned over a good leaf there was a little hope for Lex but after killing Lionel that hope was gone for good

      Ehm, Yes. They do hate each other. Actually they hate each other the most. Lex hates him the most because he has the life he never had and everything he wanted is Clark's. Clark in Season 6 when he was under Red Kryptonite said to Lana "Why not choose the person I hate the most" according to her wedding with Lex. So yeah. It's a true hate between those two. I love how Whitney's Dad and Jonathan were buried in such a beautiful cemetery with Angels and the feeling of God looking over their son's shoulders but Lionel is buried in this bleek, emotionless cemetery...the stare that Lex and Clark give each other like, soon, it's on, but not today, and the bit of a smile from Lex, almost feeling sympathy or respect for Clark...and then Clark pouring the dirt as a final respect and the sun shining on Lionel's cold grave..... beautifully done.

    That glance they give each other tells a lot. There's no going back. Lex has crossed a line that is beyond redemption...and at the same time killed any chance of these two reconciling and mending their fractured friendship. The lack of dialogue works in that there are no words left to say. Clark is in effect mourning two deaths: Lionel's, and that of the good man that Lex once was. All that's left is hate and a hunger for power.

      That pretty much sums up the dynamic of the show. You know going in to season 1 the history of the man of steel and his arch enemy, so the show having them be friends in the beginning is incredibly peotic. Seeing how they both want to be each other's friends but clark is told not to trust the Luthors and lex, knowing that clark is hiding something, becoming obsessed with trying to figure out how they survived the incident that should've killed them both resulting in their eventual meeting. It's incredibly saddening because you see them get along so well and you hope, against the eventual fate that the story takes them, they remain friends forever.

    I remember seeing Tv spots n teasers for this series in the weeks leading up to the premier. And 13 year old me, back in 2001, thought it looked gimmicky and/or cheesy. Ended up watching the whole thing as they aired. Smallville very much proved me wrong.
    N now, all these years later as an adult, my appreciation for it has done nothing but grow. Thank you Tom and Michael for giving us all the best version and rendition of the story of Superman, ever told.

    One of the tragic, but most compelling themes, of Smallville, was Lex's slow transformation from a spoiled but well meaning person to an evil villain. I remember watching the show when it aired here, in the UK, on channel4, in the early 2000s. Michael Rosenbuam portrayed Lex as a very relatable and likeable character who, despite his inherent "Luthor" flaws, actually cared about his friends, especially Clark. Smallville's strength, especially the early seasons, was that it was more character driven, rather than relying on the fact that the main protagonist was a super human alien.

      Seasons 1 through 7 were amazing, While there were some stand out episodes in later seasons none of them had the impact that the show had with Lex in. Rosembaum is one of the most under rated actors going & deserves way more recognition for this role in particular

    It's scenes like this that made Smallville such a special show and even though there were no actual words exchanged here, it really spoke so much volumes and the sombre piano music being played at the end made it even more powerful.

    No words can describe the symbolism of this scene. This is, for me, the best scene in Smallville’s history, the music, the characters carrying all of their past but also the burden of the future inevitable fight between them with just THAT look, absolutely amazing and so emotional.
    Plus, this episode was legendary, and one of the best episode in the show, along with the 100th and the 200th episode. But in this episode, you have that amazing opening scene between Lex and Lionel and Lex definitely turning evil, you have this AMAZING scene between Clark and Lex in the manor, and of course this ending.
    Just wonderful and that’s why we loved this show.

    Lionel was so instrumental to the monster that Lex became that ut doesn't matter what he tried to undo after the essence/body swap with Clark. The damage was already done. If that change came yrs before, maybe Lex would have had a chance to change his path.

    • @Chalicodragon
      @Chalicodragon 6 місяців тому

      Yeah, I always hated the way that this was Lex's tipping point.
      Lionel was abusive to Lex and treated him like garbage, but just because he is nice to Clark, Lex has now crossed the line to kill him despite years of the show from its inception showing how Lionel shaped the evil in Lex. This was ridiculous.

  • @TheKeyser94

    The reason of why Lex is like are more complex that Clark secret, Lex in a way always was in the near the abyss, he still have conscience, but that was shattered by mistrust, arrogance and an obsession for control everybody.
    That circumstances make Lex fall to the abyss and finally take the final step that is killing his father, the first step was when Helen Bryce making fall to that desert Island, then all go to hell after that.

    I think it should also be noted that when Lex was presumed dead in the earlier season, Lionel was going to have a massive funeral in the mansion burial grounds (if I recall). Lex gave Lionel not even a standing tombstone. Just a grave marker in a crowded cemetery, which Lionel would have definitely seen as an insult.

    Well... There's a scene in Superman The Animated Series... where Clark is on way to Lex. Lex is expecting someone else... (maybe Lane...maybe Supes... doesn't matter)... But when Lex sees Clark on the security monitor he just says "Kent."
    The tone in the voice (excellent job by voice actor btw)... completely shows that Lex knows Kent is Superman. But the battle isn't with the reporter... Lex's battle is with the Alien. A distinct difference...at least in Lex's mind.

      It's a sad world where people are starting to redeem themselves and people use their past as a means to basically say, "Instead of starting to do good in the world like you are doing now, just die." Lionel even wanted to stay in prison to suffer for what he's done but circumstances brought him out of jail and he used it as an opportunity to repent for what he's done.

      +Sweetp000433 It kind of reminds me of Dukat from Star Trek: DS9, he started out as a very sinister character, then immersed into gray areas during season 4 and 5, and just when you thought he was turning to the good side, he goes back again to being evil. Not even his daughter could save him. I don't think there was bad blood running through his family line though, like with the Luthors.

    • @Toasty667
      @Toasty667 7 років тому +1

      But he was an alternate Lionel, not the same man. This is evident when Lois says to him that basically he's not acting like their Lionel to which he responds 'I'm not the Lionel you knew'. I doubt he would have gone back to those ways because of how his character developed.
