Making Smallville not just a Clark origin story but a Lex story is one of the greatest decisions in the history of comic book adaptations. Rosenbaum added actual gravitas to the character, and was a perfect foil for TOm's Clark/Superman

Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal of Lex is the best in all media, an amazing performance even when the show was weak, he was always delivering.
"I was raised in your shadow, now you're gonna die in mine. No one will even remember your name"
It must have really stung when Lex heard his father say that Clark was the kind of son a father could be proud of. What more could Lex have done to get that same recognition. You feel that despite his privilege growing up Lex's life was doomed. He became the way he was because of his father and then he got the cold shoulder from him for how he was as a person
Yep. Lex was like a young Clark Kent despite everything Lionel did to him. He wanted to be good and have friends around him but being raised the way he was affected him and these new people he thought could be his new family always found reasons to reject him. He no longer had a path like Clark's.
In Smallville, it was tragic how Clark Kent and Lex Luthor went from being the best friends to being the worst of enemies. At least Clark apologized for not being able to save Lex in the end of the series.
Lex loved him like a brother and yet Clark never trusted him with his secret. Clark is responsible for turning Lex into a monster no less than Lionel
@@amitkenan3878 true, but Lex Luthor also did try to uncover Clark's secret behind his back, sometimes using questionable tactics that crossed boundaries. Lex sadly made bad choices that doomed his friendship with Clark.

@@amitkenan3878 Lex wasn't entitled to Clark's secrets. And Clark was not responsible for Lex's moral choices. He didn't owe Lex an apology. It speaks to Clark's high moral character that he offered one anyway.
@@parkerboy795 Lex going evil was on Lionel he turned him into the monster we saw. Same happened to Clark in alternate universe when he was raised by Lionel.
I know Lex destiny was to become Clark's enemy but it still hurts to see how they were so close as friends like brothers and they just broke apart

I seriously loved their friendship, they would always save each other and when they needed someone the most, the other was always there for them. I can't believe they destroyed such an amazing friendship that had great potential!

After watching this show, I know pretty much all the scenes, and lines, in this edit. I love this show and this edit. Very underrated video in my opinion. Michael Rosenbaum’s portrayal as Lex Luthor was, still is and always will be the best portrayal of Lex Luthor.

Smallville is one of my favorite shows but sometimes the show annoys me. Clark always annoyed me, he was hypocrite . Lex was always my favorite character. And of course, this edit is amazing. And I did a lex edit almost a year ago but it is not as good as yours 💕❤️.

I know we are supposed to feel bad for clark but I feel bad for lex . Clark had everything lex wanted like a great family. And lex’s childhood was the worst he had no friends and he was beaten by his father when Clark’s childhood same perfect, who wouldn’t want to have super powers when they were a kid . And Clark had parents who helped him with his powers.
No, it wasn't Clark's fault. It was Lionel's fault. He never gave him the love a father owe to his child.
When Lex said that he wanted everything Clark had, it was the truth. If you rewatch Smallville, you will see that in this episode where Clark and other kids of his school are saved after being trapped in Luthor's plant. He was clearly jealous to see Clark and his parents hug.
Lex made a choice to be a villain.
Lex has always been the supportive friend to Clark and he tried to be somehow honest with him. But Clark was the one that has too many secrets which somehow stained their friendship. Also, all that Lex ever wanted is someone who will accept, love him and help him not become like his father but people around him always doubted him and didn't give him the chance to change.
Seriously, I love Lex's character in the beginning of the series and I pity him for having the characted development that happened to him.

Russelle Alega I agree with all those things, Lex saw Clark as a brother a best friend, rival an sometimes an enemy all the sametime.
Even though he admired Clark, he was also lowkey jealous of him. Clark had the perfect supporting family and friends. An Lex sure had money....but he was always alone an never had friends or good parenting. I do believe Lex became the way he did because of a Clark but also. Lex did somewhat have a God complex, he was envious of people with different abilities then him, and wanted to exploit them, to use for his own gain....sure ultimately he wannted to protect the human race from all the threats that appeared in smallville. But still he wanted control. But of course he wasn’t like that at first. Just everything and the secrets from Clark made him became the villain he did.
Clark wannted to tell lex his secret but after witnessing Lexs actions therw the show and also given him being a Luthor and the Kent’s taught him the Luthors couldn’t be trusted that stopped Clark from telling him. An he also wanted to change Lex but he didn’t like how Lex was sooo obsessed with the car accident of how he survived and then investigating Clark etc. Ultimately the both became who they because of such other and it is a sad and really good story.
Lex was no saint. He had his own secrets and lies at the beginning

Lex chose to be a bad person. It wasn't Clark's fault Lex was jealous of the love between Clark and his parents because his father never gave him the love parents owe to their children.
When they met Clark was a teen and Lex was an adult.
Lex was an hypocrit, he always said that he was Clark's friend but he was investigating him.

Unfortunately I perfectly understand how the tragedies in Lex's life could push him down the darkened path due to very similar tragedies taken place within my own miserable life. And trust me it isn't easy suppressing all of that hatred,bitterness,mistrustfulness,and paranoia within myself.

Smallville is one of my favorite version of Superman and I'd also loved the story of Clark and Lex; how they go from best of friends (almost brothers) to mortal enemies! Michael Rosenbaum portrayal of Lex Luthor is one of my favorite live action version of the character. Since it was in a TV series, they'd showed over time how there friendship changed, became broken and in the end, they both accepted there destinies!
Lex is literally the most misunderstood and mistreated character out there 💔 🖤.

Very big similarities, yes. Thankfully, Peter and Harry usually mend their relationship before it's too late, whereas Lex and Clark are meant to do battle forever...or until Lex dies.

Lex had a crush on her too lol. But it was mainly just another way to get to Clark. Since Michael R is my favorite version of Lex, I wish he could've been a temporary villian instead of permenant. I mean who knows, it took Lionel many years to turn around and he was way older. Maybe Lex just needed more time

Lex was always suspicious of how Clark saved him from dying in a car accident. Also, Lex knew about the meteor freaks. So, Lex was trying to build evidence of Clark being a meteor freak. Lex did amoral things to get this evidence. He was using Lana to use Clark. His obsession about understanding how he was saved by Clark made him be bad since season 1. Clark had a right to keep his superpowers secret from Lex. Lex was being suspicious, obsessed about Clark, doing amoral things, using Lana as a pawn, and becoming power-hungry. Lex only has himself to blame.

If Clark tells lex then I think lex never goes down his dark path. Lex is responsible for the choices he made but what smallville did so well was that it characterized or humanized lex so you can see where he is coming from
That being said lex still could’ve made better choices and also trust that Clark would tell him his secret one day. I was however upset at the ending where they erased his memories because all of the character development just disappeared and was wiped clean
