    A few years back, I got back into hunting and I wanted to get into the creedmoor round. Not because people were saying it's the greatest hunting round ever invented, but, more because I knew of it's capabilities and soft recoil. I found the mossberg creedmoor w/3-9x40 vortex scope package for $349. What a steal. Accurate with 129 gr ammo...but I moved it up to 143 gr precision ammo...and man!! MOA all day, no flyers! It has not let me down yet in deer season. My other rifles far more expensive, in other calibers (one other creedmoor), are great as well, but this budget gun holds its own, and has worked in the rain, cold, and good hunting distance for me. I think the longest shot I have where I hunt is about 200 yards, but thankfully the deer never come out that far. lol. I took an 8 pointer at 140 yds with that mossberg. I don't get all into the best or greatest rounds. My uncle will be 80 this year, he said it's his last year hunting (been saying that every year for the last 10 lol), but you can't tell him NOTHING about the 270 when deer hunting. He owns 5 of them LOL. 2 years ago, my wife decided she wanted to go hunting. She had never been, she had never fired a gun. Got her a weekend license, showed her the hardest part, finding the deer in the scope, and put them cross hairs behind the shoulder. Took her hunting the day before her birthday, and her first time hunting, first shot ever, she dropped a doe with that mossberg. Now she wants a mossberg, a four wheeler and her own stands. I told her, "It doesn't always go like this when hunting"..lol...smh

    I have really enjoyed your review of this rifle, people say you are nitpicking but isn’t that what a review is supposed to be?, Anyway I appreciate it. I have been thinking about this rifle or the Ruger American, and this review helped me make the decision to get the Ruger American instead so thank you, I subscribed.

    My 270 patriot is 1 moa at 100 but it is very ammo picky with any other brand it does horrible. Mine likes winchester soft points @ 150 grains.

    In the video I mentioned the Thomson Center Encore being a “budget” rifle , the whole time meaning to say the Compass was a budget rifle..

    The package scope you are thinking of is the Vortex Crossfire II Dead - Hold BDC reticle (second focal plane) 3-9X40mm. My Mossberg Patriot .308 Win came with one.

    • @southernarsenal908
      @southernarsenal908  2 роки тому +1

      This rifle didn’t come with a Vortex.. it was a cheap “dead ringer” scope.. very cheap

    So, the funny story with my Mossberg Patriot is that I wanted an adjustable stock. Some years down the road, I put it in an MDT chassis, which is great. 1 MOA. But the length of pull is just about too long and I cannot get a consistent eye box. The original synthetic stock has a split where the rear action screw goes. So, I have ordered a new stock in OD green. And I have some camo gaffer tape so that I can redneck camo it before I put the barrel and action in it. And then raise the cheek to meet my scope with craft foam and camo vet tape.

    Anybody have trigger problems? I went out today to sight in a new scope. Yes it’s deer season. I shot four rounds and went to shoot again and the trigger is stuck.

    Have you ever tried the 2506

    And I said the 140 gr projectiles put me 10 hrs heavier than my 30-30.... meaning 270 the whole time..

    It's a $378.00 rifle/ scope package at my local store. Don't nit pick every little thing. I have the 6.5 and 308 in this rifle and they shoot great! Both shoot 1 moa. I bought these budget rifles to ride in my work truck and on the tractor. They are beat up pretty good but still shoot great! Don't buy a $400.00 rifle and expect a $1000.00 rifle.

    • @southernarsenal908
      @southernarsenal908  Рік тому

      Its sorta my job to “nit pick” things. Lol…actually, this rifle wouldnt group well enough for me to even keep it..2-4 inches at 100!!!! But you didnt hear me say that. Lol…

    • @southernarsenal908
      @southernarsenal908  Рік тому +1

      And i dont expect a 1000.00 rifle from a budget rifle pachage BUT… Ruger Americans will shoot SUB moa.. in a 400.00 gun.. js

      @@southernarsenal908you are absolutely right. If I was to choose a budget hunting rifle it would be the Ruger American. I have several and they all shoot great. If you get a chance try the CVA Cascade. I have one in 6.5CM that is scary accurate with the Hornady ELD X ammo. I think you will be pleased.

    • @southernarsenal908
      @southernarsenal908  Рік тому +1

      @@michaellewis5624 i actually have a cva cascade in 6.5 cm.. it is accurate. But its also a 650.00 rifle. Made by Bergara.

    It's a good gun you just like to nitpick there's nothing wrong with the bolt it works free and easy and I like the safety better than the three position safety

    Been better if you showed how it groups at 100 yards that's all that matters and I've heard that rifle doesn't shoot very good

    You just flat out bought the wrong rifle for a precision rifle

    • @southernarsenal908
      @southernarsenal908  2 роки тому

      Well, wasn’t really looking for true “precision” but I expect at least 1-1.5 MOA.. but I understand that this is a 349.00 rifle and it has its limitations.. either way, not nearly accurate enough for me.My Ruger American is a budget rifle and it shoots sub MOA out of the box.. JS.. I’ve already sold it and bought a Bergara 308

    • @michaellewis5624

      I have this rifle in 6.5CM . I bought it for a truck/tractor rifle. But to my surprise the trigger came out of the box at 2 1/2 lbs and with a Leupold VX 3 4.5x14x50 scope shooting Hornady ELD-X ammo, it will shoot 1/2 inch groups all day long. MOA out as far as I can shoot. No it's not a precision rifle but the one I have is crazy accurate. 440 yards is as far as I have shot it. No problem hitting a 12 inch plate at 440. I have spent a whole lot more and got a less accurate rifle. I have taken many hogs over the last spring and summer eating my peanuts and soybeans. I have no complaints.

      It’s a 6.5 creedmoor it don’t matter what rifle he buys it’s gonna be dead accurate from 200 to 600 yards😂
