Low FODMAP is fantastic regardless. The point is to reduce back all triggers to basic foods for 4 weeks then gradually add foods back in over 3 day basis. Its very simple to do. It even covers all of these 3 categories. Dont peddle things like this when the diet can help all of those, youre prolonging people getting the help they need. People dont need to assume what they may or may not have, starting from the ground up with a food and symptom diary is the smartest and quickest way to go.

Agreed! It’s a shame someone might see this video and think that getting rid of onions and garlic will help them. He’s framing “low FODMAP” as if it’s a long-term diet, when in fact it’s something used to diagnose trigger foods and sensitives.
Heck, someone may be able to eat onion and garlic fine in small quantities, and it’s really legumes (galactans) that are giving them issues. But they won’t know that unless they do the Low-FODMAP diet as it’s intended.

I think your comment in addition to the 3 subjects he said actually make a really great resource! All good things to consider. He’s right about stress, which means ultimately making lifestyle changes for self-care. If symptoms aren’t “as bad” I disagree bc that could be early warning sign in some cases.

Fructans are in so much more than just onions and garlic. However, I substitute garlic with garlic oil and onions with the green parts of leeks or spring onions. You can also use chives and garlic chives.

It may not be gluten. I was diagnosed with PVC and PAC, which is simply extra needs, but I just find that about 10 minutes after I eat and it’s usually something with carbs. I usually start getting them but it’s probably just because my blood sugar spikes and that could be the reason who knows. Added electrolytes into my morning routine and they’ve seem to have lessened so could’ve been not enough water.

Good fruits are banana grapes strawberries and blueberries. I have a theory about gluten/wheat. In Italy they have no gluten problems and they consume tons of it however they process the wheat differently. The U.S. does an enrichment process and i believe that to be the culprit. It might not be a trigger for you, but you won’t know unless you give it up and see if your symptoms improve.
The purpose of the low FODMAP diet is to figure out which of the FODMAPs you are sensitive to. It’s not meant to be on long term. It can take up to two months to complete, but after that that you only have to avoid the foods that give you issues

Currently living on guacamole, I'm craving fat and protein I almost went looking for bone marrow today. I have to be on soft diet or I get really sick and get complete or partial obstruction. But I don't know how to do that and feed myself properly. My husband trys to help me and noticing if I don't eat. Bought me pho today. Boiling bones for broth tomorrow so I can freeze some too. I had a food poisoning that was pretty intense back in December 2023 and ever since then my intestines have been unable to digest anything other than low fodmap food. I had to cut out like 60 to 70% of all food. I was used to eating and that anyone who has normal healthy gut can eat. I found out a few weeks ago that there is a thing called post infection irritable bowel syndrome and looks like I have it. I read online that around 40 to 50% of people can get rid of it that it will just go away after sometime if they keep up with the low fodmap diet but many other people are stuck with it forever

If he had just admitted that the first rule he gives is literally him telling you to follow the low-FODMAP diet (not the whole diet, but one smaller piece of the diet), I wouldn't have an issue with this video. But yeah, the "M" in FODMAP stands for "monosaccharides," aka fructose, aka fructan. (And he's right. Some people, myself included, can reduce a huge chunk of their overall discomfort just by removing fructans, aka onions, garlic, etc., from their diet.)
But why do we put up with people being careless and not giving complete information. It detracts from people's ability to make good decisions, you know?
