Hey fellow ibs sufferers. I'm here to say I'm accepting that I have ibs. There, I said it. I have ibs. (In addition to acid reflux...) Anyway, it's really time i listen to my body. I'm 33, I've noticed since I was a child I had terrible gas, indigestion, etc. My parents didn't care much because they didn't know. So over the years, especially in my 30s, my body has been LESS tolerant to my "trigger" .. happy foods, yummy foods.. and I've decided to just listen to it.
So I'm on keto now and its actually really helpful. Really helpful. My most annoying ibs symptom (my worst) is the gas. It's. Notorious. When I'm doing low fodmap and keto, the gas/bloating/annoyance is GONE.
I hate it, because you have to drop so many delicious foods but it's not worth it any more. It's not worth it. I'm tired of feeling like crap.
So hello everyone my name is Bernadette and I am a PROUD ibs sufferer

    Hi Leanne,
I was so stressed and sad about my whole IBS situation, I was diagnosed with IBS a few months before and I was not willing to follow the diet and restrictions. Your Positive outlook and candor in this video made me realise how fun and feasible it is to cope up with the symptoms.
Thank you for sharing your experience and making this interesting!!!!!

I enjoyed this video so much. Your humor and positive outlook on IBS made me smile through the whole video. I have been struggling with my IBS symptoms pretty severely over the past year. I actually had a pretty bad flare up this morning and decided to check UA-cam for someone advice out of stress and frustration. Found this video and it really helped turn a rough day around, so thank you.

I know this is an older video, but it truly was very helpful to me. I had to have my gall bladder removed last year and since then I have had no end of stomach and digestive issues. My dietician has just put me on a 4 week FOD eating plan and your video was very informative! I am feeling a bit better about my food choices, and having some menu ideas to start me off is wonderful! I am learning as I go and will probably make mistakes that my tummy will let me know about, but this down to earth video of you telling what is working for you was so nice. Thank you!

I wound up with a very nasty gut bug that I have NO idea where it came from. I wound up with a very nasty diarrhea that was on it's way to IBS. I tried all sorts of stuff to no avail. I even tried fasting. Got real serious when the stomach pain & uncontrollable bloating kicked in.
I have a love/hate relationship with doctors because some 'play' with your conditions, systemmatically robbing you with useless appointments/prescriptions. This is why I've been a self-healer for the last 15+ years.
I knew my condition included an overgrowth of bad bacteria in my gut(bloating), & I probably had some form of inflammation in my intestines. So-I figured that I had to follow a diet that would help me do two things:
    1. Kill the bad bacteria in my gut so the good bacteria could flourish.
    2. Eat a diet that wouldn't stress my digestive track out(through trying to break down food), so that my inflammation could heal.
What I came up with was a sort of intermittent fasting with a once a day soup.
The soup was homemade & consisted of small chunks of chicken, lots of carrots, celery & mixed veggies. The chicken would give me a little protein & the veggies would help grow the proper bacteria in my gut. The KEY to this soup is that it was boiled until EVERYTHING in it was pretty overcooked. THIS took stress off of digestive tract because food was pretty much already broken down. Now, as I made bathroom trips during the day I would consume Pedialite to replace electrolytes lost during bathroom runs. Followed this & after 6 weeks of my IBS it only took this soup 4 days to cure me.
Hope this helps anyone out there suffering with IBS.
    GOD BLESS...❤❤❤

For the difference in wheat/ gluten products over seas, it's because of a couple of factors. 1. There are certain products that aren't available/ not allowed over in European and Asian countries. One that is mentioned a lot is Round-Up for spraying plants to prevent pests. Some people are way more sensitive to it than others.
    2. The cultures tends to promote healthy styles of cooking and eating.

Thank you for sharing your story, I know it's not easy. I was just diagnosed with IBS last year by my gastroenterologist, so I am still learning how to deal with it. Those painful episodes are not fun, I agree! Doing some research about IBS, I came across witj another topic that might be the cause of IBS (Not sure yet), which is called SIBO-IMO. Have you been tested for it? I will bring it up to my gastroenterologist on my next appointment. Thank you again for your video, you gave a great idea for a shrimp past which I love!

Good work, you are very helpful. Just trying to figure my issues out. Appointments with specialists can take weeks or months, while in the meantime we are sick and losing weight. There is a lot of useful information on the internet, and so why not get started? Day three and i am feeling a bit better already, i sense i am on the right track. I had to laugh, the doctor ordered stool tests. My friend phoned, asking what i was doing today…”oh, just off to town with a purse full of poop.” She has IBS too, so we had a good laugh. I've start eating the FODMAP way and so far it's been helpful. Elemination diets I've done in the past so i have an idea of some things but i was kind of confused because it didn't always help me figure all of it out. I do have a degree in nutrition and people don't realize how hard it can be even at that level of knowledge to sort it all out! FODMAP doesn't come across the mind of a lot of people when they are trying to figure out their eating plans. Both of my parents have issues with digesting the specific things that FODMAP addresses. Before I got my degree in nutrition i had 40yrs of average american eating and super high stress that wrecked my ability to eat many of those foods. I decided to have more compassion on myself over the last few yrs. And figure these things out. Keto, intermitten fasting, paleo, etc. We're kind of on the radar but they didn't show the complete picture. All of those would cause massive reactions for a variety of reasons...too much fat or not enough items to add bulk to my meals and other irritating items that are ok on the list but not my guts favorite thing. You really have to tailor the diet to the needs and very few fad diets even touch on it...even fasting cause problems because of the stress it puts on my body and psycologically triggering also. I also do better with smaller meals that skipping and eating big doesn't allow. Be very careful and aware, everyone!l

When I had IBS attack the first time, I had to follow all the restrictions and followed it for a long time. After 6 months my stomach settled completely. Little by little I started eating almost everything for so many years. In this pandemic I started cooking my spicy traditional Indian food a lot using garlic and onion. Im still trying to figure out what my triggers are, but i think so far it may be onion, garlic, dairy (if i have lots) and maybe gluten (tho not all items trigger me?)
Would really love to see a video that explains how to figure out your triggers etc. ☺️

Very good video and yes, low FODMAP is extremely helpful treating IBS. I have IBS and SIBO. Yucks, however I would like to suggest Digestive Enzymes in combination with the low FODMAP meal plan. I have been taking Creon along with low FODMAP. Bloating, gas and fermentation has subsided. Living normal, however am very conscious regarding what I eat. What a difference the digestive enzymes made. Just a suggestion. I’m sure someone will see a huge difference. Good luck and I hope this suggestion helps resolve or reduces your symptoms. By the way, FODZYME is very helpful also and is budget friendly.

I hardly ever been regular throughout my whole life. I relied on laxatives and suppositories. Just recently with the pressure of pandemic, having 2 ADHD kids, working in healthcare etc my tummy went mental. It affected my mental in such a negative way, I wasn’t sure I wanted to live anymore 🥺 fortunately I did a long fast and I got better soon. Now trying the low FODMAP diet so pray for me 🤞

I can't imagine the strain you must be under during this pandemic! I've found that there is such a strong connection between the mind and the gut, and when my mental health is suffering, so is my physical (stomach) health. It can turn into a downward spiral very quickly. Remember to be gentle with yourself all times, but especially now with all the unpredictability we face in our world these days. Not sure if dieticians/stomach specialists and therapy are affordable or accessible where you are, but I've found many benefits to both. I know that you will find a balance that works for you, whatever it looks like. I'm thinking of you and wishing you many sunny days ahead! 💓💓

I would like suggest to you that you may possibly have Celiac Disease because of the symptoms you listed. Research what Celiac Disease is and ask your doctor for a Celiac Disease test (it's a blood test) to see if you have it. Then I'd suggest getting your kids tested too. The ADHD that your kids have and the stress you are going under are strong indicators for Celiac Disease, along with the "never been regular my whole life".
Also, to help with relaxing your stomach because of the food and stress, is to try Peppermint pills. I use a specific brand that's from England, you can order from Amazon and Holland & Barrett. The brand is, "Holland & Barrett Extra Strength Oil of Peppermint 200mg" and it has 60 rapid release softgel capsules - it's not expensive at all. And they are fast acting because they are soft gel capsules. I've tried different brands her in the USA but they never work completely as well as these pills.
I would try not to use the laxatives and suppositories at all, if you can, because they can do more damage than good. Try making a smoothie with lots of greens (kale, celery, cucumber) and ground Chia seeds. This will help with movements.
I do hope things are working out for you now with your new diet. Never give up hope. Keep researching for good health and good mental health.

@@tillygirl7450 thank you for such a valuable advice. Since last year I have quit my university degree and stayed at home with my kids and started growing organic vegetables. I grow fromus and to sell from my market stall. I literally healed my gut with stress management, good nutrition and being able to work around the kids. I haven’t taken any laxatives for months, I have more energy and so mich happier. I was tested for gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance which both came back negative.

I'm so grateful for tofu. Especially the soft, creamy asian tofu... got diagnosed this month with colitis ulcerosa - well, the hospital said they couldn't 100% confirm it yet but it's very, very likely and they told me to look for support groups etc. It's all pretty terrifying to me. I really hope I'll be able to eat gluten and spices and fried foods again, but who knows... I've been eating toast and haven't experienced more pain than usual but I do get bloated... I kind of wonder if it's fine to accept the bloating or if it causes more internal damage... I haven't tried garlic yet (I'm out of the hospital for 2,5 weeks so... I guess I should be more patient). I have no clue how to figure out which foods I can handle and which not because on one hand I feel like I might ignore symptoms/ might not be able which specific food caused it and on the other I'm terrified of trying something and causing it for me to get worse enough to land in the hospital again...

The reason you may not have a reaction to some flours is because not all countries require the addition of additives such as vitamins. some people find they can eat bread in Italy for example with not reaction but not in UK where the law says vitamins etc must be added to bread flour.

While I haven't been formally diagnosed, I haven't been able to go to the doctor yet but I found the FODMAP online and was desperate for the pain to go away. I have been on it for three weeks and I have zero to minimal pain. I'm extremely afraid of pain as my pain tolerance is very low (its a wonder I had kids), so I will not be tempted to eat the things I love and feel horrible pain. I've already been in the ER to help with pain management. My job is about to start again. I need to find friendly lunches and snacks otherwise I'll be leaving the classroom multiple times a day for diahrea..

Madi Elkins don't count on the doctors especially the specialist to know anything about IBS.
I suffered for four-and-a-half years seeing a gastroenterologist and he admitted he didn't know anything about it and basically wasted my time. I have now found a doctor, in the UK who does Zoom consultations and already he has put me on some fantastic probiotics and after only a few days my stomach pains went away when I stuck to what I could eat.

Leanne, I really enjoyed your video. I have SIBO and IBS-C and have been eating low FOD map for about a month now. I have a theory about why you can eat Ukrainian pierogi easily but not Canadian pierogi. I think it has to do with the quality of the wheat. In the USA and possibly in Canada, wheat nowadays is nothing like what we used to grow 50 years ago. most of it is genetically modified. In Ukraine, you have better wheat that is not genetically modified. I find that when I travel in Europe in general, I have much fewer bowel issues and can eat a wider variety of foods that I can at home. This includes Dairy! Or maybe I am just less stressed when I travel. Like you, I am not perfect and I sometimes stray from my Low Fodmap diet but life is short and occasionally you just have to go for it and eat the ice cream. Sending you much love during this very hard time for Ukraine. ❤️🇺🇦

I travel extensively in Europe and have zero stomach issues when there. Most of Europe has higher standards for what can go in foods such as preservatives. This coupled with growing and manufacturing practices does effect the quality of food.
