  • If you learned the traditional golf swing release, it's hurting your game! It's stopping you from playing the best golf of your life. Many golfers learn to release the golf club like this when they start playing. They turn their hands through impact and try to rotate the clubface in a square position. This causes a lot of inconsistent ball striking because you're always relying on timing to get the face square at impact. To be a great ball striker, you shouldn't rely on timing. Instead you need a way to return the club to the same spot every time with a powerful move through the ball. One of the best golf tips to be more consistent is stop excessive hand motion at impact. When you do this, you end up with a predictable clubface angle at impact, and a powerful extension of your arms. Both of these things improve accuracy and club speed. So you'll end up hitting it straight and long. Works with every club in the bag too - even the driver.

      Tom, At the address are you still opening the clubface 3* to start the ball right of target line and produce the baby push draw?

  • @bobc9181
    @bobc9181 7 місяців тому +6

    Tom is this what you're saying?
    In the world of golf, a question's been raised,
    To rotate or not, on the course where we gaze.
    Should you twist those hands after striking the ball?
    Or let them be quiet, to stand straight and tall?
    Many pros and teachers will tell you, "Rotate!"
    "Turn your hands over, it's really first-rate."
    But I tried it, my swing became quite absurd,
    I hit shorter, and my game was disturbed.
    For the clubface angle, it played tricks on me,
    Sometimes closed, sometimes open, oh, what a spree!
    Like golfing roulette, with each shot, I'd pray,
    Not knowing where my poor ball might stray.
    And though it felt strong, this hand twist so keen,
    It caused me to flip, oh, the sights I'd seen.
    I lost power and couldn't make the ball soar,
    I needed a change, to even the score.
    So, I took my hands out of the game's equation,
    And found a solution, a golf revelation.
    With quiet hands, my swing became quite profound,
    My distance went up, and my shots were sound.
    No more worries of timing, or clubface's whim,
    With quiet hands, the ball flew nice and trim.
    My impact was powerful, through the turf I'd plow,
    The ball sped away, it's the quiet hands, I vow!
    The active hands release, a common golf delight,
    Yet it can cost strokes, oh, what a sight!
    Nine out of ten lose shots, it's quite a crime,
    But with quiet hands, you'll have a grand time.
    So, learn the secret, the quiet hands' sweet embrace,
    For consistent flights and an extra bit of space.
    More fairways and greens, your dreams will come true,
    Lower your score, with the quiet hands, you'll debut!
    Just watch this video, and you will see,
    The magic of quiet hands, it's the way to be!

      There is no appropriate to such brilliant prose,
      I'll simply let it stand on its own to counter all foes.
      For this handsy rolling stuff is such a popular yet misguided notion,
      Which casteth many swings into an abyss the size of an ocean.

    I’ve completely moved over to the S&T golf swing .
    Started playing exactly 3 yrs ago and the local club pro who I started lessons with is an amazing golfer by all accounts but his way of teaching was the old school casting and whipping the hands through impact ! He could hit it amazingly so I just assumed that was how it was done ! I was honestly about to give up …
    Obviously me being a beginner I just couldn’t time all of that up together and could never break 100 on the course , Shifting the weight , whipping the hands all those variables. Just a disaster ! Now tho after moving to S&T for the last 3 months I’ve finally broke 90 and really enjoying myself out there . I’ve to improve on my short game and driving but hitting the irons generally straight ! Cheers Tom I will continue to learn with all of your brilliant videos !!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  8 днів тому

      That's OUTSTANDING - Congrats on breaking through the 90 barrier!! 💪💪
      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! This body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Regardless of whether or not they refer to S&T by name, watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.
      Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. And yes, per your experience we can compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well).
      If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
      And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner.

      That's fantastic!! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!!
      With regard to those pulls, the answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause of a sideways shot. For example, consider the following possibilities: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) Grip is too strong, 4) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 5) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 6) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"). Though not an exhaustive list, those are some primary causes of pulls. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first three possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention.
      Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

    I liked your video Tom. Unfortunately, in the millisecond it takes to make a golf swing, it's so difficult to "feel" the difference between opening and closing the club face (aka rolling the wrists) and hinging the wrists in your backswing.
    Usually at least one iron shot of mine every 18 holes will end up being rocket-launched into the woods, or three fairways over to the right, because I make this error.
    It usually takes me 2 - 3 holes to mentally recover from the anguish of hitting the shanked bullet into the next zip code! If I'm lucky enough to straighten it out that day.
    Are there any drills I can do that might help prevent this from happening? I recognize the reason I'm doing it. It's just sometimes difficult to prevent it from happening.
    It's quite embarrassing when you hit a dead straight drive, in the middle of the fairway, and have pw or 9i to the green, and then you send one dead right 100 yards to the right of the green!
    That's the shots that make a normally calm 55yr old guy want to the throw a vokey wedge into the pond to go chase that shanked pro-v1!
    😡

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  7 місяців тому +2

      LOL! Let's keep that Vokey dry even though it wants to jump in and rescue the Pro-V1 that it just sent to a watery grave....
      One nice thing about this method is that you don't need to "feel" or time any opening or closing of the face because it's simply not happening. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Here are a few lessons on this topic:

    3:25: the release occurs, but it’s at 3 o clock! If the swing is going counterclockwise, the ball impact is at 6 o clock. Your arms are still straight at 8 o clock. It’s only at 9 o clock that the release occurs.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  4 місяці тому

      Good observation! Sure - there is a "release", but not of the type that so many folks believe it to be. With regard to the erroneous notion that we need to contrive some type of active "release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of this action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that even the vast majority of pros are trying to consciously manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. Here are a few of my channel episodes that may help to clarify:

    Tom, you teach about presetting the shaft lean and hold it during the swing. This is great and works best for me. I do have a question about the preset lean. Do you suggest the same preset lean for all clubs regardless of loft? Thanks.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi Ned,
      I'm glad that is performing well for you!
      In general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.
      As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look.

      As for your referenced issue, my main concerns specific to the grip are that the handle remains secure in the fingers throughout the entirety of the motion and that the proper hinging and unhinging of the wrists is fully supported without any contrived effort. If you enter the word "grip" in my channel's search bar you mar find some helpful content in this regard. Also, consider that having a properly sized grip which feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf.

    Couldn't agree more. My swing was destroyed for years by terrible instruction. It was only when I started digging deeper and doing my own research that I was actually able to consistently hit in the 70s. The golf swing is simple that terrible instructors make complex

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  7 місяців тому +2

      Sadly, Craig, many well-intended yet misguided teachings of widely accepted "conventional" instruction - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively hinging the wrists and rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up, put an end to the madness, and get folks on the path towards consistently crispy, powerful, body-friendly ball striking bliss.

    Have had better shots when I think quiet hands; As I'm a feel player, is there some feel I should focus on to get this right? Sometimes when I think about quiet hands my wrist bows negatively (naturally). Also, there are so many posts out there about hinging the wrist. Seems like you do that in the process as well.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  7 місяців тому

      The process may take some time and appropriate drilling for a previously "handsy" player, but as your ball striking demonstrates it is well worth the effort.

    Can you explain the same idea but with driver? Thanks

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  7 місяців тому

      Hi Liam,
      Yes - this swing key also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact.
      So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
      For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
      Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  7 місяців тому

      I'm glad to learn of your improved impact, Robert!
      With regard to your pushed shots, the answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause of a sideways shot. For example, it could be that your path has shallowed too much or that your swing still has some leftover remnants of subconscious compensatory moves that you made to neutralize a previously steeper path. Video and/or a launch monitor that provides path and face angle data will be very helpful in diagnosing the culprit.
      Keep up the great work!

      The arms are certainly one of the multipliers, but trying to micromanage them only serves to rob us of our maximum speed potential and our consistency. The fastest component of an effective swing will be the clubhead just past impact.
I mean so bad it’s painful and I’m scared to keep hitting balls in my sim room fearing balls ricocheting all over. I’m confused now on what my wrists are supposed to do in the takeaway and backswing. • @SagutoGolf

      If you had grown accustomed to your strong grip then this change to a more neutral attachment can feel awkward at first and may produce some very odd shots. I know - I was there myself when making this change. But this is normal when trying to incorporate the necessary adjustments in the spirit of lasting improvement.
      With regard to the wrists, it appears as though you are trying to micromanage things, which - though certainly understandable when things don't quite feel right - can serve to exacerbate the situation. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Here are a few lessons on this topic:

It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

      @@SagutoGolf watched those videos and they are very helpful. When I started shanking last night I actually reminded myself to keep my hands quiet and the videos you sent validate that. The thing that has messed with me is the thought of “hinging” my wrists to create “lag”. By hinging I mean radial deviation. Seems to me all that does is raise the toe up/heel down. Regardless, I’m just going to not worry about that and just focus on quiet hands and let my torso/shoulders do the work.

    well, yes. the idea of rolling the right foremarm over, in the hitting area, is a complete nonesense. swing coaches tell a player to pull their right elbow down; and, they then get stuck. so, the swing coach then tells the player to roll their wrists over to square the club up etc. crazy.
    and, i totally agree a player shouldn't open the clubface in the takeaway, as you demonstrate. but, i would like to run a little swing drill past you, which you won't like; but you are more open minded than most, so i am hopeful that you will try it. if you grip the club with just your left hand and then point it out to the right- in the parallel to the target line position- your left hand will be on top of the club. and, if you wait a while the pressure that the heel pad asserts on the club- to take the weight of the club- will then set the club into motion on the perfect arc. and, it will be square at the top.

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate as always your validating remarks and detail!
      Not sure why you think I "won't like" your drill. It makes sense to me since if we "give up control to gain control", then the weight of the clubhead is what will cause the wrists and hands to react appropriately to trace the correct arc/circle without any undesirable manipulation of the face.
      Thanks again!
      Tom

      @@SagutoGolf thanks for that, Tom. that's great. i wasn't sure that you would like the start position. it is an easy way of creating the perfect swing arc, whilst improving strength and flexiblity. and, all a player has to do is pop their right hand on the club at the top of their backswing and they will be in the perfect position. a player, though, may feel as though they are in a very flat position when they do this; and, feel that they are going to have real difficulty getting back round to the ball. but, when a player does this drill it does cup the wrists. and, this enables a player to create lag- which is not considered to be a part of the modern game- when they start down. i create lag by pressing in with the joint of my left wrist, which, i know sounds just plain weird and incomprehensible. but, when the left hand is to the left side of the shaft the pressure in the wrist joint enables the left hand to apply force against the left side of shaft and release the club thru. this may seem either a it too old fashioned; or, just too plain weird; but, i like it.

      That is something I have taught as well. For example, this lesson video from the archives: ua-cam.com/video/BGYUWPqWT2s/v-deo.html
      I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

      It is so important to embrace the swing change process and set realistic expectations along the way, Mike, otherwise frustration is certain to occur. The “ghosts of swings past” do not disappear on their own, and if you are transitioning from a swing method that involved shifting weight into your trail side, independently lifting the club with your hands, and/or rolling/flipping through the zone, those demons are going to take some time to exorcise!

      Ah yes, Mark... The dark side of golf. Evil swing sorcery. The cult that is quietly, surreptitiously gathering lost swings from the vast purgatorial abyss of failed "conventional" instruction and leading them to the way and the truth of a method rooted in the unchanging principles of physics and geometry. Creating heinously horrifying creatures of repeatability, predictable ball flight, and effortless power. Like a hideous and unstoppable amoeba slowly yet steadily consuming the golfing globe. Resistance is futile; you will be assimilated. Mwahahaha.....Mwahahahaha..... 😆😆
