    I want to thank you. I've struggled trying to get my low point to be after the golf ball. I was relegated to playing the ball back in my stance to achieve any kind of ball first compression contact. But that led to a steep downswing and too deep of a divot. This knee move changed everything. It was the epiphany I had been searching for. Game changer. Much gratitude. You gained a subscriber.

    Awesome! It’s where I suck at golf. Topping and thinning and hitting the ground before the golf ball. Every once in awhile, I’ll hit the ball first and it’s a glorious feeling. Like hitting a baseball 400’. I love to hate this game…..

    It's a fine line between "moving the lead knee forward" and swaying the whole body forward. In my case swaying led to a crapload of different problems, and the subconscious "corrections" that came with it, including back issues. All the while I thought I was performing "weight transfer" from back to front. I would be mindful that if someone tries this, they do it in verrrry small adjustments, and with video documentation before and after. Just my opinion.

    A while ago I took a three-day golf academy with the head pro at Kapalua. The thing that stuck with me was when he said: "Forty percent of your greens fee goes to course maintenance. You've already pre-paid for the divots, you might as well take them!"

    Ali, well done! I do have one serious question... What do you fix your eye on when hitting the ball? Do you actually aim directly at the ball or not... and if you do aim at the ball do you look at the top of the ball, strike side of the ball, or the front of the ball?

    I played a golf outing and I focused on other players low point after the swing and with all the bad shots they were hitting turf first then ball. I struggle with this on the range and focused on my sternum but will try focusing on the left knee to see it that works better.

      Try swinging faster. Swing speed creates lag which creates divots.

    One thing that has helped me shift my weight forward is to never shift it back in the backswing. If I can imagine a spear in the ground with the tip about an inch away from my right hip (I am a right handed golfer) and when I do my backswing I don't feel my weight transfer to my right foot as much as I feel it cycle upwards into my chest. I know it sounds weird but it feels like I am storing it up rather than rocking onto my right foot. Then when I am ready to do the downswing it always me to release that stored up energy down and through the ball. I usually do not take much of a divot but I definitely have been getting contact with the ball first.

      That's my problem, too. As soon as I think about bruising the turf, multiple practice swings either miss the ground altogether, or dive into it way behind where the ball's going to be. Location of problem: right between my ears.

    Ali, I have tried to slow the video down to see where your head and eyes are looking when you hit the ball. It seems to me you’re already looking at the target when your club is striking the ground. Is that possible and you’re picking it so clean you don’t even need to look?

    Here's a statement and a question. I'm very stiff and have always had a great deal of difficulty in getting a 90 degree shoulder turn. I was recently watching a video of Jack Nicklaus's swing. He raises the heel of the front leg, sometimes quite a bit, which causes the forward knee to move backward, away from the target *and* forward, toward the imaginary line running through the ball and the target. This causes the hips to turn, before the shoulders, so the order is arms, hips, shoulders, and it helps a great deal in achieving the 90 degree shoulder turn. I notice that you don't do this, you keep the forward heel on the ground, and I've also read this way taught. Is raising the forward heel like this a good "cheat" for stiff people?

    First great swing tip I got as a 12 year old was from my first caddie master, who eventually became a teaching pro. He saw I already naturally had a good swing so he said ‘get your divot to start halfway through the ball’. Hips then hands.

    What is the ideal low point after the ball? 1 inch 2 inch more?

    • @AliTaylorGolf
      @AliTaylorGolf  19 днів тому

      Depends on the amount of loft. Short irons maybe 3-4 inches ahead, less as the clubs get longer and less lofted.

    The number of golfers who have the low point of their swing on the correct side of the ball but still hit the ground early is a concern. Their arc is too low in relation to the ground. Lift the arc up and bang ball then ground contact

    I agree it is about the lead knee --- but I think a better way to describe how you get the weight over early is that by the time your club is half way back in your backswing your lower body weight should have shifter to your front side. Think when you throw a ball (step and throw) you don't weight till your arm is all the way back before you start loading weight on to your front foot -- you start transferring weight to your front foot by the time you arm has moved half way back - you should be doing the same in the golf swing. That is all you have to think and the step shallows the club for you.

    UA-cam instructors seem obsessed by 'taking a divot' when in fact, gouging a trough in the grass has little or nothing to do with ball flight - by that time, the ball is long gone. Moe Norman, Tiger Woods and the great Jack Nicklaus hardly ever took divots.

      @@leswolstenholme4925 the divot after the ball is a natural consequence of the type of swing that typically gives you the best result, just from a pure physics standpoint. The shape of the divot will tell you how you hit the ball which is good feedback which most golfers like.
