I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing. - Спорт

I bought the divot board and after using it discovered, wait for it, I was moving too much weight to my right side. Once I started pivoting better and keeping more weight on the left side, I was able to take a divot ahead of the ball. I played the next day and discovered the effortless power you talk about. I had to adjust because, a few times, I would yank it down from the top and pull the heck out of the ball. I just told myself - no need to yank it down from the top anymore - effortless power. After that correction, I was smoking them! Holy cow! My buddy was calling me Dick Masheter. I was just mercilessly mashing the golf ball. I experienced the course from places I'd never played before. Thanks SagutoGolf!
I'm 64 and been watching Saguto videos for about 9 months and now shooting in low 80s down from low 90s. I'll hit a good shot and yell out SAGUTO!!!
LOL!! That's awesome, @BA!!
Thanks so much for sharing your success through my instruction.
Keep it crispy and keep on having fun out there!!
Tom
After I started watching the videos I went from 116 to 102 and yesterday for the first time ever shot a 90! I stopped slicing and started to love golf. Got fitted for some new rogue irons and that also helped. I now really spend time practicing at the range and I’m hitting the ball longer and straighter than ever before!!!This is big for me! Thanks so much.
Wow - that is absolutely *AWESOME,* Cindy!!! 💪💪
Congratulations on your dramatic improvement and for shooting your personal best round!!! Sounds like you've really got the golf bug now.....
Thanks so much for sharing your success, keep up the great work, and have fun out there!!
Tom

Speak too much...
Blah blah
Hi Tom
Thanks for your great videos. I have been following your mission since the beginning of Corona and it has become mine as well. Your basics have now become the foundation of my iron play. Other masters have also influenced me (Mike Austin for the driver and in the short game Dave Pelz / Phil Mickelson. In general the principles of Ben Hogan). Now everything is gradually flowing together. It takes patience and training. But after more than 2 years, the swing change has not only brought something in the short term, but especially in the long term i'm better able to develop my game much further.
I was recently on a well-known course where even the pros in Europe regularly compete.
2 years ago I played a 96 and this year an 88. And of course not everything went according to plan, it is golf after all :-).And by the way it is not my home course where I play regularly.
Conclusion: Thanks Tom for your concept. The way you present the topic in a simple and understandable way can help all interested golfers to become better and to gain a certain control in the game. This way we can enjoy the game even more and quickly forget about bad shots.
I recommend beginners on the driving range to subscribe to your channel regularly. Because there are many ways to play golf but there are only a few ways to play golf really well.
One of them is you.
Keep up the good work.
From my heart all the best and best regards
John🇨🇭

Tom, I found you for the first time 10 days ago. After 10 years trying to learn a swing and never finding consistency, I am now hitting straight, crispy shots just dong these 2 moves. I had the most enjoyable 18 holes today ever. For the first time, I stood over every shot with confidence that I would hit solid shots - and I did! Thank you for your channel. Keep giving us simple golf swing instruction.
That's AWESOME, Jim!! Nice job incorporating this lesson into your swing and putting it into play so quickly!!

I watched S&T years ago and liked it but it was like most videos. A lot of info but never got to the point. I watched a few of your vids and you broke that down all very simply. I’m a single digit that lives all over the face, mainly the toe. I went to a local golf store and hit into their nets today. These nets are far enough away from the mats that you know if your ball flight is good or bad. I started wearing out the middle of the face, shot after shot. Never in my golfing life have I done that. I hit the middle maybe a time or two each round typically. I can’t wait to play tomorrow. You are a great communicator. Thanks for actually helping us. I don’t go for lessons bc they never work. I’m changing my mind now bc you seem to have found a way to communicate what a body swing is to me. No one has ever been able to do that. Thx!
I appreciate your kind words, Chris, and I'm very glad this lesson resonated well with you. Nice job incorporating it into your swing so quickly and effectively.
I hope you have an enjoyable round with more of those crispy center strikes today!!

This swing style brought me from a 12 to a 6 in less than a year! Keep up the content.
Biggest change for me was the weight shift. I am still working on shortening my backswing and improving follow through, since I'm a handsy golfer, but this is a game changer! Thanks Saguto.
That's some seriously awesome improvement, Breck!! Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!!
Tom
So grateful for your videos and common sense practice and playing tips.
I appreciate that, Manfred, and I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying and benefiting from my instruction!
Tom
Tom, thanks for your videos. I have been playing (haha) Golf for 5 years, since I moved to a Golf Course and the journey has been EXPENSIVE and frustrating. I started out obviously in the 110-120 range and have brought that down to the mid 90's. My problem has been distance and total inconsistency. I am strong enough because I work out, I am flexible enough because I stretch yet my 3 Wood has been in the 160-200 yard range. I have been to the 2 top Golf stores for lessons and the "TECH" company also. All it has produced was less money in my pocket with minimal results. I had viewed some of your videos a few years back but never fully jumped into the methodology. Well after coming across you again I have been to the range for two days working on what I have learned in your videos. Yesterday I saw significant improvement on the range and today I am going out to play a round with my sons, hopefully I put a decent round together as now I am going in confident that I will see the sucess. I will be signing up for the School and will let you know my results! Thanks!
That's fabulous, @Hockeyfan One - I'm thrilled know that my instruction is beginning to resonate with you, and I hope you had a great time on the course with your sons!!
Here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start in the online school:
1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program (GSS) and Part I of Get Out & Go Play (GOGP) both address this.
2a) GSS: One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the GSS course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing!
2b) GOGP: This quick-start program is exactly as it sounds - it is designed to fast-track you out onto the course so you can have fun - and success - playing as you learn! Should you choose this path, everything in #1 above still applies, and as implied above in 2a you will still want to work through it sequentially and gradually, mastering each lesson before moving ahead to the next one. In this program, Drill #5 - The Flying Wedge is the one you'll want to park yourself on and nail down.
3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis service, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf
4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school enrollment - and begin engaging with your fellow members. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I really think you’ll enjoy it!
Thanks for sharing your story. I look forward to assisting you through the school’s structured lessons and drills towards building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level!
Tom
Love it, Tom…..weight forward (head in place) and lead arm straight 😊
Simple as that, Bob!!
Tom, I found myself going down the swing complexity ‘rabbit hole’. Too many things to think about. Your lessons focus on simplicity that makes for quick & easy understanding. It is also allows for quick adoption and I have never swung it better ! Thanks again for your informative & Fun teachings. 👍
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Jimi, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating well with you!
The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work for us, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball!
Thanks again, keep up the great work, and have fun out there!!

Coach Saguto!
First off, found you a few days ago and great stuff. I recently had quite the Tin Cup broken golf swing issue but recently decided to start back at the basics with your videos. theyre incredibly helpful. Not just keeping weight forward and left arm stright, but combining that with tips to play the handle, not the clubhead.
I like to think to push that handle as far away from me as possible, which helps me keep arms straight. Is this ok to do?
In the future, i'd love to see more "slowing down the swing pace" videos!
I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating well with you, Ryan!
With regard to your comment about pushing the handle, it's important to understand that an effective, repeatable golf swing is best built on a compilation of personal "feels" that are unique to each of us individually. Over time we ingrain these feels into a complete motion that we can execute without need for mechanical thoughts. We are then able to simply allow our ball striking and shot shape to be our guide.
Have you considered joining the online school and taking your game to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying and resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise as well as all my short game instruction, plus advanced level courses on shot shaping and power/distance. So many folks across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. After my back surgery and loss of some leg mobility, I struggled for a while to recover what I used to be able to do on weight shift. This video showed me much easier way to accomplish the perfect body position through the ball. Thanks, Bro, you helped me a lot.
Awesome! I'm glad to know that this helped you to such an extent!!
This is a very body-friendly motion as supported by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
Have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing and experience great ball striking.
Thanks for your comment!!

Great video mate.👍
Thanks David!!
The mind can only take in 3 things at a time. Thanks for making the concepts simple.
Physics, geometry, and human physiology. Combine them in a complimentary manner and you'll have a powerful, consistent, low-maintenance, body-friendly swing with which to truly enjoy this great game for the rest of your life. Hi Tom, really love and appreciate your instructional videos!
You make it so easy and fun to learn, and you eliminate a lot of the
technical baffle gab that's out there, confusing all of us to no end!
What keeps me coming back are the many references to my favourite
comfort food, the wonderful KFC :)
One question though: You seem to favour Ben Hogan's swing style, but I notice your
grip is different from his, in that he favoured lining up the Vs of both hands to the left shoulder.
Do you advocate that, or is this simply a personal choice on your part?
Thanks again for the wildly entertaining videos, you make a lot of people happy!
P.S. More guitar riffs at the end of your videos would make us even happier.
Cheers!
I appreciate the kind words, Joseph, and I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying my teaching style (and the KFC)!!
You certainly have some leeway with the grip as long as certain key elements are present. Here is a lesson video I did on Mr. Hogan's grip: ua-cam.com/video/JF_W8TH_bCQ/v-deo.html
As I regularly tell folks, let your ball striking and shot shape be your guide.
Have fun out there!!

Tom excellent video, same information but easier to follow. Again great lesson. Thanks
I'm glad this version resonated well with you, Ken!
I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason is why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why so many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Tom your teaching has definitely taken me out of the golf dessert! Between your UA-cam videos and your online course I shot my pb 80 a few weeks ago !
I’m still struggling with inconsistency though. One day I hit everything crispy , high and lasers towards the pin , the next day hard left, slice or fat shots. What am I doing wrong?
Congrats on the personal best, Eric!! Seems to me that you are making very nice progress, and the inconsistency you are experiencing is part of the process. The more confident you become with your swing, the more you will be able to trust it and just let it go on the course. At that point you will be enjoying the game of "golf" instead of playing "golf swing".

@@SagutoGolf thx!
My pleasure, Christopher!
This is so different than what so many UA-cam videos are teaching. With so many it's all about weight shift and loading the trail leg, then shallowing the club and squatting and then shifting weight back to the lead leg almost jumping off the ground through impact. So many variables and places to go wrong. Tom's simple logic makes a good golf swing repeatable. And why isn't that ALWAYS the most important thing? Maybe if you are in a long drive contest you'd need to do things a little differently.
Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant.......
Thanks very much for your kind comment and support!

The net is a DIY job. It is approximately 7’ tall and 8’ wide. We used this video as a starting point - ua-cam.com/video/-p11qs4E2T0/v-deo.html - and then made some other minor PVC support structure modifications to suit our needs. We did not use PVC cement as this allows us to easily disassemble it if necessary. The netting we used is 10' x 10' golf cage impact net purchased from Amazon, and it differs from the screening material in the video. (By the way, if using a net like we did you probably won’t need the screw hooks that are mentioned in the video - bungees should suffice.) As for the background, that is just a meshed tarp with grommets that I had custom printed with my logo.

Tom! I just went and tried out your two basic moves suggestion and I have to admit, it does feel powerful. It's like the ball "rockets" off of the club face. This definitely has to be a "stack and tilt" move. Or, am I wrong? Excellent video Tom! Always willing to try out anything that will help me improve!

Big feeling in the pectorals for me. Especially inside the lead arm. For all of you doubting this... don't. Make sure your alignment is "correct" and this will work every single time.
I'm living proof. I kept thinking I had alignment right for so long... when indeed, my perception changes quite a bit depending on how I "approach" the ball after I pick my line/intermediate point. Crucial to set the club, then your grip. It makes it automatic.
Excellent advice, Johnny!!

i play a 12° m1 driver and i feel like i dont even have to hit it classical "from under" (that what a lot of people are telling you) because its lofted so high already. helps me eliminate one factor of the swing that could fail potentially. it basically is the same as irons... also i feel like i can gain the same distance with much lower swingspeed than most of my collegues when hitting it super crisp
That's great, Lenny!
With regard to hitting up on the ball with the driver, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - the path should still be ever so slightly down. In fact, believe it or not the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.3 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level to you - but slightly down nonetheless. Thus, I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
Keep up the fantastic work and have fun out there!!

Hey Tom, been using the stack and tilt for about a week now and ball compression and distances have really improved!
What would advice be if I want to minimise drawing the ball and focusing more on a straight ball flight? (a good problem to have I know...!)
Love your content and teachings Tom.
All the best ⛳️
That's awesome, Will!!
Your answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line dictates the ball's starting line, and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then determine the impact condition that is causing the ball to move the way it does.
In Stack & Tilt we utilize the "Shot Shaping Grid" and make simple setup adjustments in order to carve the ball in either direction and to varying degrees. There's no need to change the swing. For example, here is a shot shaping demonstration featuring a fellow teaching pro when we were attending Instructor Camp together in Miami: ua-cam.com/video/IcmKxfLz9EM/v-deo.html
Beyond this, I have an entire advanced level course on shot shaping and controlling ball flight in the online school. This is a great question. I would love for you to break down John Daly swing.
Hard to believe at 54 years old I believe that he has no back issues or hip issues or feet issues. To be that overweight and still have a fluid swing is very interesting. Please advise on this. And why he gets away with going way past plane. Much appreciated.
You are the rock star of golf instruction!
I think the answer is quite clear if you watch his swing in slow motion. Here's a YT video from another source that shows it from a variety of angles: ua-cam.com/video/Gk9Rc8ilDbk/v-deo.html
Daly simply places no restriction on his hip turn, which then allows his shoulders to freely rotate as much as his body will allow without any stress or strain on the knees, hips, or back. It's a wonderfully fluid motion.
Great video. The problem I have is on transition and over swing
Glad you enjoyed it, Martin!

That may help.
Tom
I tried this and it works! Does different clubs change the ball position?
I'm glad it performed well for you, Jamie!
While you do have some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. For example, my personal preference for the shorter clubs tends to be a position that is slightly forward of prescribed.

Hi James,
A significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
Have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school?
