Nothing wrong with nostalgia the 1980s like the 70s where really pioneering and eras when some great and not so great gear arrived to meet our creative demands(those fortunate enough to go into debt for the new stuff!). The D-50 was a real welcoming machine to those of us disheartened with the cold uninteresting sounds of the DX-7! Those crying that this is just nostalgia(many of us love nostalgia and the effort that went into designing these machines) can enjoy composing in their humdrum laptop dominions! This one looks like another winner in my book and its VERY portable!
I love my Roland D-50...but am considering picking one of these up for the onboard sequencer and arpeggiator, and simply to have another "D-50" sound module....& I have more .sysx patch banks than you can shake a stick at.
Dera Daniel, thanks for your video! It was great! Could you tell me, please , can I control the Roland VR-09 synthesizer - Roland D-05 unit with the buttons? The buttons on the D-05 are very small and not very easy to operate. How to connect them together?
Just picked one up recently SPOT on reproduction of the D-50 minus the space you needed for the actual keyboard if you had the real D-50. It has a feature I like where you can choose the actual output to be original i.e. with all the artifacts the original D-50 had a little noise and so on or a clean output which is the updated crystal clear digital sound output. You have 8 add banks to store user sounds which makes this machine a no brainer! Roland hit it out of the ball park this time.
I like the stand.... it also shows the weak point of the Boutique series for my idea of stack 4, side by side and 2 others on top of that.. the cables will get in the way...
Hi Andrew, my favorite classic synth was the Oberheim Matrix Expander (or Matrix 12). There was one at every synth station at Berklee College of Music back in the '80s. My favorite ROMpler was the Kurzweil K2661. My favorite modern synthesizer hasn't been announced to the public yet ;-) Thanks for watching!
Can someone help me out. I'm trying to set up my Roland D05 with Reaper. I just got the D05 and have been trying to hook it up to a Roland A-800. I have MIDI input enabled for both the D05 and A800. I also have the midi out going into midi in for the D05 and the 1/8 output going into the 1/4 instrument jack of my audio interface. But I can't get any output from my D05. Can someone help me out? (I'm somewhat inept when it comes to handling music tech - Idk what to do.) Also, are you able to configure it so that the D05 sends the MIDI of your performance into reaper as opposed to just the audio? Thanks so much!🙏
Hi Rob, we were running a bare-bones audio/video rig at Knobcon but, in my headphones, it was very quiet. I don't remember the preset names as I was just scrolling from one to the next and playing whatever the title or the first note insipred. Thanks for watching!
People being nostalgic. I've owned so many pieces of hardware, everything from the D-50 to you name it. It seems that investment in a decent lap top, a good DAW and a program like Omisphere along with a decent controller allows more flexibility than being trapped in one of these boxes does.
I had a problem with the massive amount of flexibility that comes with DAWs+Vsts. When I changed my setup from a Yamaha RS-7000 to Ableton, just for the reason to have "endless" possibility, I noticed I got totally lost in all those VSTS and effects that are available to try. A few years later I went back to hardware synths and it is much of a diffrence for me. I own omnisphere, zebra2 and serum because I wanted at least 2-3 good vst synths, and they are pure magic. For me the "frame of possibilities" or so to speak the limits that come with analog synths doesn't leave me lost in the ether of creativity and possibility. And I for myself have found, that in the digital Realm I often have to "add" to sounds and give it certain touches/textures to make it full and fat, with my analog synths I often find myself picking out stuff (in the mixing process) because it takes much space in a mix and is full of fat rich overtones. In the meanwhile it all boiled/destilled to a hybrid setup, of analog synths and digital mixing-vsts+fx. Maybe I'm so much into analog gear for creating and vsts for mixing becauseI love the looks, the touch, the sound, the stories which evolve around this gear and the arguments that come up, it adds to the vibe. I just recently got myself the omnisphere+zebra2+spherum(vsts) which are impressive. And you are right, these days vsts + laptops are evolving and evolving, softening and even breaking the boundaries of hardware+software and evolve it into something new.
a lot of modern vsts dont have good bread and butter sounds. One of the best vsts though is Hypersonic 2, I've not heard anything as good since. Omnisphere obviously up there too and more powerful sounds but it takes up a lot of resources and isnt as good as Hypersonic as a good all round rompler imo.
kyle Strenner Except working in a DAW is not inspiring, doesn't feel creative, and never feels like I'm playing a real instrument. I can never understand why some people don't want to play hardware. And then make their case like hardware is bad. So weird haha.
Hi Chris, you're right. This was a quick version they transferred from a laptop at Knobcon. It's part of a larger video with a verbal overview and more audio clips. The longer stereo version will replace this one soon. Thanks for watching!
SweetwaterSound Your Welcome. I didn't need any of these videos .. the second I saw this announced I was off to your site and pre-ordering! Long time Sweetwater customer here .. tell Ken Davis I said hi 👍
I wish Roland would build a keyboard case like Waldorf did for the separate modules. But bigger with a 4-5 octave nice Keybed and controls
Nice stand for the 2 boutiques together. What brand?

Where can I find that boutique stand? That thing is perfect for what I need!

How do you switch outputs?

off set the top tier, I have KV gear racks for my Boutiques and they are stacked 3 high with no cable issues.
where can i find a boutique rack like that??
What is Daniel Fishers favorite synth currently? Classic and Modern?

I have over a thousand sounds for the D50, can we load the sounds to the D05 without needing sound cards??
Hi csharp57, the D-05 is fully compatible with all D-50 sounds. Thanks for watching!
Do you have a release date?? I'm most likely buy one
Jean-Luc Ponty - Computer Incantations for World Peace @ 2.44 :D
nice JL Ponty bit at 2:46
One should buy it for the "Spacious Sweep" patch alone. lol
How is it to edit ?
What's that preset around 2:47 ? Sounds great! I did notice some hiss in this audio from the video, is that from the D-05 or something else?

Those pcm samples are the shit. 1:54 annd 2:19
jlp @ 2:44
yup!
It brings back memories but I don't miss the keyboard sounds of the 80's...
kyle Strenner right.why is everything suddenly based on gear of the past.
