Nice. I think these little sessions work really well on a number of levels; They're simple but very effective demonstrations of how to get compelling results quickly, they're accessible and feed your own ideas, and they show how well-rounded things can come from just a few well chosen components. Lastly, they show Nick's musical soul, which really entertains and reminds us as to why we buy all this stuff in the first place. Thanks!

P.s @ Nick Batt . Dont bash yourself for over using reverb. Everyone else does. You sir execute it in a very inspiring way as oppose to just "cheese factor". Serious 4th dimensional sounds going on, love it :-) !!!!

I didn’t realise you could sequence chords on the Keystep as well as play them, will have to get the manual back out. Love the grit ness of the Dominion.
Just depends mostly on what the synth is capable of; the sequencer implements accordingly

The Friday Fun vids are becoming a great tradition! Love it. Can't wait for Gaz to review the D-05. It's a reissue of the Roland D-50 who's countless recognizable sounds can be heard in this brilliant UA-cam vid:

I recognize a lot of the presets that they used in the eighties. But what I didn't realize is the the D-50 (of should I say: Boutique D-05?) can be used not only in solo's but also as a pad which takes away a lot of the cheese! It's a great partner for that beast of a Dominion. Apparently they can sound very relaxing together. Again, a great intro for my weekend, thanks for the vid. :-)

Nick, I think you should expand and create the Sonicstate Relaxation Channel. 5 million views of you playing reverb-washed synths to video of sunsets and ocean waves. The D-05 sounds so damn cool, and the Dominion 1 has so much thickness going on. Beautiful stuff my friend.
Friday Fun was a good idea. The Dominion 1 is awesome; it's kinda like a modern Mono/Poly with more features. Good on Roland for including the extra samples in the D05.
I'd kinda like to see Korg do something like that, since they've made nice analog recreations already. A little Wavestation with all the features, or especially something like a little DSS-1 (8-12 bit sampling with the great analog VCFs and VCAs, maybe modern conveniences like SD card storage); that'd be kinda cool.
This was excellent . The Dominion 1 sounds amazing ,, there such nuances in the sound,, would love to hear just the Dominion 1 by itself !! Please do a Fun Friday of just the Dominion 1 . Not that there is any thing wrong with D 05 ,, its just that the Dominion 1 has a certain "some thing else " going on :-)

I really like the Friday fun videos! The Dominion 1 sounds like it is capable of creating some beautiful and expressive sounds. I watched the review you did way back when and made a mental note of it as a possibility but it does not appear to have shown up here in the USA. I guess one has to place an order from Europe.
I've always loved the D-50. Listen to some old Die Form. I believe that's mostly D-50.

hey Nick, are these usb-cables kind of magsafe-adapters? what brand are they? or does anybody know where to get mini (not micro) usb "magsafe"-connectors (to preserve the devices from breaking the usb socket)?!
I've been waiting for the D-05 review for a while. Probably my favorite synth of all time (D-50) behind the OB-X.
It's just so under rated. In fact there's a guy in the UK by the name of Paul Kingsley Hurst (a Gary Neuman fanatic) who's created patches that Exactly mimic all of the old synths in Neumans rig. We're talking Yamaha CS-30s, OB-Xs, Polymoogs... It's just insane. UA-cam him. I WISH those patches were for sale!! If I get two botique boards, it will be the Super Jupiter and the D-05.
The Dominion has a truly wonderful sound to it. A grittiness is there for sure but very pleasing and extremely warm.
These Friday Fun videos are fantastic Nick! I don't have the Dominion (unfortunately) but I do have the D-05, and just ordered a Roland SE-02. I'll try to do something similar when it arrives!

The Dominion is sounds really fat. Love the filter! I have Digital and analogue synths but always go to the analogue and leave the digital gather dust. As you can hear in this jam, the Dominion rules. Not that I am against digital synths but they don't sit well in the mix with analogue gear.
Sounds really interesting, like this series. The bass sound with the mono blips and character sound really good. You picked Bminor? Brave! That's the least riffy key for me. :)

Excellent choice of instruments and patching. These two really compliment each other well. Their voices remain distinct yet fit together nicely. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. Beautiful composition and thank you for the overview.

Might I add that the D-05 sequencer is not in any way difficult to work with. The parameters, sure I get that but I can literally roll out sequences while playing live w/o difficulties

This would be a perfect soundtrack for a space sim like Space Engine. Well done, Nick!
If they ever bring out the Roland D-0.5 they should add a filter to its repertoire. Yes it would become another beast but why not take it to that new place. Imagine a filter as part of its sound sculpting. A filter which changed over time, with its own ADSR or its own LFO.
Sure you could run it through a filter to take the edge off, but that's not quite the same as a patch voice with its own indivual control.
That D-05 patch sounds like a movie score type of patch. Really nice and ethereal.

Really well done. You have mixed some great gear in these jams that really compliment each other. I think that’s the best part. You should try one with the minilogue and whatever you think sounds good with it. I trust your judgment.

You can get a new Fender any time. The Dom1 takes months of waiting if you order from a supplier. Otherwise you have to be lucky and find one still for sale 2nd hand. They rarely pop up online but it's possible.
