The pair of trembling hands in this video make it bittersweet. So much experience, a pair of hands that contributed to synthesis history, slowly succumbing to age, as we all must. Yet they STILL hit those keys in the proliferation of gorgeous, dreamy sounds. I salute you, Mr Scott!
These instruments were a revolution. The DX7II and the D-50. I think my two favorite instruments. And I never stopped liking them. VZ-1 was also very good. Very advanced. Kawai K5, as well.
Love it! Incredible synthesizer. Used to have a D-20 and D-110 and also used to play the D-50 in my childhood church and in concerts. Love it! I think I will purchase the D-05 when I have the opportunity to do so!
Evidently this guy programmed the sounds for the D-50. My progression: DX7, D-50, Proteus 1. Each one an improvement over the last. Used but never owned the D-70, 76 keys. I now see the D-50 boutique & just straight up SW plug-in. But on the keyboard shown here, I brought mine home, plugged in Sony headphones and hit a single key and realized I had a canvas for art.
The best keyboard roland D50 I just bought a roland D50 my self my cousin uses it on his international pop band Persian style such a nice keyboard there will never be one like it it’s a special keyboard the best
Bought one for a fortune; sold it for a song. Winners are grinners and I ain't grinnin'. Loved the Syn Harmonium patch on it. I think it was a dual sound.
Anyone out there can help? A D10 owning friend of mine wants to do some sound editing on it. However, the PG-10 programmers are rare and very expensive. There used to be commercial editing software - anyone have a copy for sale? Alternatively, how difficult is it to set up SysEx commands from a DAW such as Nuendo? Any help greatly appreciated.
Adrian, I am a big fan of Roland. I am wondering if Roland going to bring back the G70 arranger's? if Roland is to bring it back please incorporate the features with the fantom G engine. thank you
I had the triple threat of the D-7, D-50 and M1 in that overly used 3-tier stand. Each had it's sounds, right? the sequencer in the M1 was great and then adding extra sounds from the other two was fantastic. I have them all in rack form now and still use them.
A horrible synthesizer with horrible choppy keys, terrible attack, crappy samples, nasty aliasing, terrible effects, horrendous pianos, electric pianos and organs. The pads, flutes and horns were good but that’s about it. Glad I saw through the hype and sold mine after solid dissatisfaction. I’ve never looked back. It’s a horrible synth and it hasn’t stood the test of time The Yamaha DX7 has killed the D-50 a million times over and is still used in studios around the world. The D-50 just sits in storage in most studios I wouldn’t take a D-50 for free
I feel that people who would take the time to go into its programming would not share the same opinion. I'm usually lazy to heavily edit the sounds on the D-50, but being able to load the various Sysex banks, there are some very useful patches that with light tinkering can still musically compliment very well.
The d50 is the warmest digital sounding synth and if you would care to program it and bypass fx it runs circles around a dx7 , dx's needed tons of chorus and eq before sitting even acceptable in a mix
The D-50 should’ve had Korg 01W sound quality but it didn’t because it was released too soon. They made a cheap sounding rompler The D-50 feels and sounds so dated you rarely see anyone using it anymore. There aren’t any expressive piano or electric pianos anywhere and the DX7 is still strong and useful in those departments The Korg M1 and subsequent technology destroyed it
Typical Roland Boutique sound. A convincing coy of the original, surely its lacking the depth and the punch of the the original instrument. I wonder when this trend for tiny musical instruments will pass. We musicians deserve instruments with relatable sizes. Dont need VSTis in tiny controllers.
@@zariisofficial I played and played my D50 until it made no sound no more! :( I know exactly how it sounded. Now I've also have a D-05 ... it's a small D-50 with the same sound to the human ear. Maybe it's possible we can take measurements and see something but to me it's the same sound I react to ... and I'm very happy again! :D
That's quite a legacy. We salute you, dear sir.

respect indeed
Too much caffeine.
Jeshkam - 80s cocaine.
He plays a shit load better than I do.

Man!
The D-50 along with the DX7 built the base for the modern music. What a phenomenal instruments.
Gotta pay respect to the M1 too.
Got them all... love them forever. Including my Juno6(0)
Oh yes. I still have mine, and love it. And helps me composing my music. 🎶
Great to see you celebrated alongside this machine.
Grew up on this keyboard along with the DX7...memories!!!
Bought my D50 new years ago, still plays great, I will never get rid of it.

Fantastic video. Would love to hear Adrian talk about the D50 even more

I still have a D110 in my cupboard somewhere :)
Absolutely LOVE the stories behind these iconic sounds, this was a joy to watch.
I love my D50, such a fantastic instrument, and with the PG1000, great fun to programme too!
THANK YOU!!!
Cool video and history lesson! I enjoyed it very much.
CRAP! Now I gotta get a D-50!!

The staccato heaven preset from the D50 is also the same as Yamaha's sweet heaven voice found on their PSR keyboards and DGX/clavinova digital pianos

Flutish Brass reminds me of the Philips CDI intro
one off the best synths evver :-) i have
The flutist brass was one of my favorite sounds. But all the sounds on this board were unique
worked on it for many years.brand new one as D 05 is coming :-)
Bought one for a fortune; sold it for a song. Winners are grinners and I ain't grinnin'. Loved the Syn Harmonium patch on it. I think it was a dual sound.
The patch you hear in the beginning is on Prince's Lovesexy album

Still have the actual hardware D-50 and the cloud version.. always fascinated by the sounds of this legendary Roland..

they don't make them like they used to :-)
Whoa, I just heard the Sony PS1 boot-up music in the end there
pizzagogo!! =)
Enya still uses this patch in many songs.I love this song.

Didn't know Mike Ehrmentraut was into synths :P just kidding. Good video :)

The d50 sounds more 80s than the dx7.
Where can i bye it?
Theres something bout those british synthesists

loved the D50, well till the KORG M1 came along.
The Roland jd8000 did come back to take the crown though

I do not understand why this synthesizer is praised by factory sound when it has other fantastic sounds and can create millions more
Video starting music is mj dirty Diana n elm street nightmare 4 theme
Sorry, I can't catch how many patches you chose from, all I hear is "warwarwartwenty"...
this makes modern synth its bitches...lol
