I have a real D50. This captures it very well indeed. You can't beat the real deal, but as a way to get access to the unique LA synth engine, this is great.
I imagine this is somewhat similar to how the Yamaha TX7 worked, limited capability but still sounds like the original synth
@@PonzWasTaken I don't know what you smoke when you tell 'limited capability'. The D-05, unlike the D-50, has 7 factory Patches Banks and 7 more for user sounds. It reads the original SysExes and offers digital audio via USB function.
This Synth is exactly what i was searching for. I dont really want the fat Oscillator sounds but rather more complex melodic patches.

I missed the boat on this. The D-50 was my favorite synth EVER (Oberheim Matrix1000 close 2nd). Sold mine in 1997. Huge mistake.
Didn't realize the D-05 was only going to be available for a limited run. And it was only $399 new!!! Ratz....
Typical Roland, however I believe they will probably come out with a D70/D50 in one box or even the JD990 like they did with the Juno.

It sounds bit brighter to my ears? What are your experiences, did you test it with original one side by side or had recllection compare to real deal?
I’ve owened one original d50 in the past, but the boutique d05 is really close to the original for me ;) not at 100% but it sound good!
What effects and compression are you running on this to make it sound so big?
Any external efx, only normalized audio after recording ;)

Hoping for a D-07 to come out...
The D70 (and U220) are surprisingly obscure today - they were overshadowed by the Korg M1. I always felt they had a crisper sound.
That would be cool. The Roland D-70 is a really impressive synthesizer and sounds amazing.
But you can achieve nearly the same results with the Roland Boutique JD-08. It's a Linear Arithmetic synthesizer with 4 layers. It sounds awesome.
I hope that Roland will produce a new Jupiter 8 Boutique version with more features and extended polyphony. And a JP-8000 Boutique would be more than cool.
@@AshleyPomeroy I lived the D70. Had 3 of them, but they all broke down.

What type is the USB cable you use to power suply the D05?Does it come with it in the box?
standard micro usb - USB cable, with a power adapter (phone type with 5V 1A output). You need to buy by yourself. when you buy the d-05 you only have the module and instruction manual, nothing else.
Other options are using batteries or a portable phone/gadget changer.

yes, because roland sound are basically the same on different instruments.. and into the DS88 or FA series you can find many old sounds of the D50

While I prefer Roland's analog monophonic synths for basslines and acid sound... for leads, chords, and pad sounds I think the D-50/D-550/D-05 are the pinnacle of Roland's ingenuity and they never really topped it. The V-Synth and JD-XA are really cool too though, but they didn't have nearly the same impact on popular music as D-50 did.
Lol. Then you should learn about the sound and impact of the JV-1080 and XV-5080.

I have the same Midi Controller. I don't know how to get sounds from my D05 (that is, get my D05 and midi controller connected and running using a DAW/audio interface) - Can you please help me?
hi, you only need to connect the D-05 via midi to the A-49, Midi In from D-05 to midi out of the A49. And you connect an audio cable from the out of the D-05 into your audio interface and you have done! ;)
@@DKS-SYNTH-LAB Thank you so much for responding! I've actually been trying to get a response for a long time to no avail until now. Thank you! My only problem is that I've done that but still don't get any sound? I use Reaper and click on the audio port that I have connected to the D05. Then when I play the midi keyboard I get no sound? Thanks again for your help!
@@AndrewThacker i don't know how it works reaper unfortunately, but when you connect your synth into the audio interface, without using reaper it produces any sounds? or maybe you have all the channel to mute maybe!
What usb hub is that? Do you get noise?
Standard usb 3.0 hub, but i usually connect the d-05 directly into an ac/usb power adapter ;)
Does this have the 4 voice polyphony like the other boutiques? If so, I’d just pick up a used d550 for $500 Beautiful sound from this.

Not really..
The pianos on the D50 were notoriously bad, although the main piano patch ended up on George Michael’s song “Father Figure.”
how come you have no latency? i changed the buffer size for me and theres still a noticeable delay
That's your DAW and the power of your laptop. Not the D-05.
I just realized I have that keyboard controller somewhere in the studio lol.

Just like the original, 8 or 16 voices depending on the mode setting of the patch.
when it goes quiet you can hear the ground loop noise... :( love the boutiques but their main outputs are terrible.... fantastic demo though! amazing!
I get no ground loop noise on my D-05, the only modern synths I've had ground loop issues with were my Moog D reissue and Grandmother, but running them to their own ac outlet solved that.
Don't blame the synths, it's your crappy cables that cause that. Invest in some decent cables.

Amazing spider-hands finger stretches, but this is a 4-note synth, so a bit misleading visually. Wonderful sounds, what's not to like, eh?
4 note synth? Not sure what you mean by that.
It's 16 voice polyphonic. Its the only boutique that has that though. The others are 4 voice or less, so I could see where you would think that.

The d05 is suited for soundtracks for films etc. the pads are too orchestrated for use in todays albums. A little dated.🙄
