Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "(They Long to Be) Close to You", "For All We Know", "Rainy Days & Mondays", "Superstar", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.
@@Pamsmith59 celine is great, although she can sound sometimes "screechy" in high notes... but NO ONE compares to karen in her one of a kind beautiful intimate warmth, richness, and purity of voice....also, karen had the most perfect diction and enunciation of any singer, male or female I've ever heard...
Karen was the best female vocalist of all time. She had perfect pitch. Literally. And she was an amazing drummer. Most of their early stuff was with her behind her drum kit. That's where she was more comfortable. Everyone who has come after, and before for that matter, fall short. She was unique. Thanks for the reaction, Devin. They did not do a bad song, at least that I have heard. And I grew up in the 60's and 70's.
I love Olivia Newton John just as much. Both beautiful people and a voice no one could ever match and they couldn't be more different sounding. Love them both.
Karen was in a class all by herself with that angelic voice. Richard had a beautiful voice as well. That's talent ❤, " For all we know " is a classic hit you just have to listen to.
This is such a beautiful song about marriage and it is timeless. Karen Carpenter brought so much beauty into our lives with her music, but that wasn't all. Her life brought us beauty, but for some her passing brought salvation. Until Karen Carpenter died, eating disorders were not acknowledged as a problem, and many people didn't even know they existed. It took the tragic death of a young celebrity to finally open people's eyes to the dangers of anorexia. What a shame things had to go so far before we became aware, but God does have a plan, and sometimes Our Father must give us the harsh news in the only way we will truly understand.
This was our song in our wedding over 50 years ago. 1971. Thanks to God and his love in our lives this is still our song. You may see us on a highway our travel trailer has a musical script “we’ve only just begun” on its back panel. God bless you may you continue in God’s grace and in your just beginning walk with Christ.
This was the wedding song of the '70's . If you did not play this song after the wedding vowels then you committed a wedding war crime, It was like singing the Star Spangled banner before the game but only after.
This song was first used for a bank commercial. Richard heard it, sought out the composer Paul Williams, and asked if there was more. Richard did his magical arranging and we got this classic.
This song began as a commercial for a bank. There was so much interest in the song that the Carpenter’s took the song to a recording. The rest is history.
Such a mesmerizing voice! There's no one who can compete on her level for this type of music 😮 It's such a tragedy that her demons got the better of her
Thanks for the reaction and thanks for bringing JESUS to the forefront. Don't forget none of us are perfect, but GOD still loves and wants all of his children with him. Take care .
Karen and Richard complimented each other so well. Richard was and still is so very musically talented. Karen, well she had a once in a generation voice. Untrained and pure. How lucky were we that she shared that gift of hers with us all.
Hello Devin, I'm so happy to subscribe to a person of faith's page. I love reaction videos but I just saw you react to Keith Green and you gave some scripture, I thank God that I found your page, you make me laugh and you are a blessing. Thank you for letting your light shine. Ok, do you know who Crowder is? I would love to hear your reaction to his song "Run devil run".
This had to be a music video because there were no mics. Also, the carpenters were Richard and Karen.probably because other instruments were used in the making these others were added to or some may know another reason the were here. Before the carpenters there was a country duet couple, husband and wife where the artist sang sound with sound live with their background voices recorded into the guitar amp brought in when the guitar player wanted them to. But, Richard and Karen made it popular and made it work as a production ….they sang with their own background voices layered and layered and they too were playing instruments live, her drum and him piano. This was a marvel on tv at the time. The carpenters were first to do a lot of things. They were soft rock and had been for a while. They were the first to do a soft rock ballad with a hard rock guitar solo. They got way a lot of criticism for it but look what that act of bravery has done for rock for years to come. I miss them. Thanx for the react Devin.
🙂 Enjoyed your reaction! Karen was also an accomplished drummer. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe Karen played drums on some of their studio songs. Pretty cool.
"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Galatians 2:20; Romans 8:37-39
So from the Bride of Christ's perspective.... we've only.just begun. To live. White linen. And promises. The call from Love (at salvation) and we're in the Way (Yeshua- the way/the gospel) We've only begun. Before the risen Son. We cry. So many roads to choose. We start out walking then learn to run (the race of faith) we ve only just begun. sharing horizons that are new to us. Watching His signs along the way. Talking it over just the two of us. Working together day to day. Together. And when the dawning comes His Light) we smile. Following Life ahead. He counsels us we begin to grow. And yes we've just begun. Sharing horizons that are new to us (the Bride of Christ) watching His signs along the way. Talking it over just the two of us. Walking together day to day. Together. Forever. And when the evening ( darkness at end of the age of grace) comes- we fly (the catching away) Everlasting Life ahead. He's prepared a place for us all to go. We've only just begun... the Spirit and the Bride say come. Even so come King Yeshua!!!
Devin, I very much appreciate your Christian perspective. I have studied that Bible for 50 years and you have a very good grasp of the simple truths contained therein. Keep sharing that knowledge and never give up! We have to keep on keeping on and looking for the return of our Savior.
This played at my wedding back in '73. My aunt worked and worked until she was able to play it perfectly on the piano in the 100+ year old country church we were in. Of course, I was so nervous coming down the isle I didn't hear the song 🤷♀️
Top of the World has always been one of my favorite Carpenters tunes. It's got a lot more country flavor than other songs. In fact, when the Carpenters performed it at the White House during the Nixon administration, Karen couldn't resist letting out a couple of "yee-haws"!! Lol. I also really like Hurting Each Other, their version of Ticket To Ride, Rainy Days and Mondays, It's Going to Take Some Time, Only Yesterday, Yesterday Once More....just to name a few!!!
Karen's voice was a unique gift. And she didn't want to be a singer! She liked being in the back, hiding behind her drum set. But her brother encouraged her to sing lead, and thank goodness he did. The Carpenters were out of step with most of 1970s pop, and that's one reason their songs haven't dated a bit.
The 70's had such great music and the Carpenter's were such talented entertainers. Please listen to Superstar......amazing! She was also a great drummer.
this video was not live but lip synched. it was from a tv show which they also did the song close to you. thats why you see the big letters of y.o.u./ this was the wedding song back then for a couple beginning their lives together.
Appreciate you so much brother !! Always a pleasure watching you and Karen Carpenter just makes it all better. Check out Billy Vera "At This Moment" thanks !!

Her voice is like a warm glow of sunshine wrapping your heart
This song was originally a bank commercial. Richard Carpenter found the author of the song and made it a full song...and it was major hit!
My favorite female singer ever the great Karen carpenter I was 19 when she sadly died

I think this song was originally a television jingle for an insurance commercial. Richard took it and made it magical.
