All the people that are just discovering the Carpenters are finding what a lot of us older folks knew for years. Her voice is just undescribably beautiful. It's seriously hard to describe how wonderful it is.
Philip I agree with you!! I’m kinda of envious of those who are now discovering and enjoying Karen’s beautiful voice I want to experience that once again!! I only listened to the Carpenters on the radio back in the 1970’s although I was still a kid!! I cried my eyes out when I heard that she passed. There’ll never be another Karen Carpenter. 😢
I love that Herb Albert took on the Carpenters, let the Carpenters perform they wanted, when other music studios wouldn't even sign them up . Kudos ! Carpenters , magic ! ❤
surely the most beautiful, warm, rich, intimate, clear, pure, perfect pitch and tone voice ever. Also the most perfect dictione/enunciation of any vocalist (she was a vocalist not just a great singer) I've ever heard....
So many think the opposite of Love is hate but that's not true they run hand in hand. (The opposite of Love is indifference). If you can muster up enough emotion to hate somebody you can also love them. Anyone who's been married for many years knows some days you love them some days you hate them😂
Yes I grew up with Karen in my life. She died a month shy of 33.I was 34 then. I ll always remember where I was. It was a huge shock when I glanced at a newspaper stand walking with my fiancee to see Karen had suddenly passed away. I loved her sweet and gentle voice. One of the greatest female singers ever. She was so popular and loved from Day 1. I m 75 today and enjoy her music today as much as I did 41 years ago before she passed.

He was an amazing musician....but I don't know how amazing he and the rest of the family were when it came to Karen's health concerns (anorexia nervousa and possible bulimia). Having said that, in the '70's, Karen's condition was not that well known or diagnosed.
This song, written by Paul Williams, was used in a bank commercial. Richard Carpenter asked Williams if he had a full-length version of the song that he and his sister could use as a single.
And the funny this is that he did not have a full-length version at the time but he said "of course I do", hung up and wrote the rest of the song right then and there🤣
I'm 74 years old and this year should be our 50th wedding anniversary. Been with my wife since 1967. She passed in 2020. Karen's voice kept me sane. She made me cry so many times. One of my favorite songs of her is One Love.

Karens voice is so unique and emotive. Just a gorgeous voice. Richard’s arrangements and both of their musical talents. Superb! This was a no. 1 wedding song. It started as a short for a bank commercial. Karen’s voice was just magic! ❤❤
No auto tune. No pitch correction. The only voices you hear are Karen and Richard. Richard perfected the art of overdubbing/ layering voices and the result speaks for itself. Karen was incredible - they called her “ one take Karen “
I see so many commenters on Carpenters reactions that say she was the best ever, but it occurred to me on another BP reaction that Sade is as good - different but equally amazing in her genre.
Richard Carpenter wrote songs, yes. He also did all the arrangements for the Carpenters. He was a perfectionist. He also had an ear for picking the right material for his sister's voice. However, this song was written by Paul Williams and it was a jingle for a Bank commercial (Crocker Bank). Richard Carpenter heard the jingle and recognized Paul Williams' singing voice in the jingle. Richard Carpenter said to himself, "This is a hit" and he called up Paul Williams and asked him if there was a full version of the song. Paul Williams would have said "Yes", even if there wasn't a full version because getting a Carpenters record was a big deal back then . . . and the rest of course was history. Yes, this song was played as the first dance between a bride and groom at a lot of weddings back in the early 70s. Beautiful song.
Great song for a wedding an angelic song to celebrate the fusion of two souls for the rest of their lives . They don't make them like this any more ,nope!

My Mom loved The Carpenters and my Dad gave her their albums for Christmas. Beautiful memories. So great to see younger generations enjoying them and appreciating them 💜💜💜
At almost 63, I’ve been listening to this song released August 21, 1970-just before I turned 9 years old. Back then it was just a really good song by the Carpenters. Today, after 44 years of marriage (at beginning of October) the words have REAL meaning. You are 100%, marriage is NOT easy. It has its ups and downs, good times and not so good. I have said more than once (many times, actually) that I will ALWAYS love my husband, but there are times that I do not like him very much. I’m sure he feels the same about me.😁
I love your reaction to this song. The Carpenters were legends. A truly feel good song is their wonderful song called, "Sing". It's so filled with great vibes!
This was our wedding song in 1977. It's especially poignant to look back over 47 years of marriage and all the life we've lived together: the ups and downs, the births of our babies and grandbabies, losing parents and seeing one another through surgeries, buying our first home and our dream home...every day is a new beginning and yet when we started, we had no idea what was in store. All we knew was we would be together through it all.
Sadly, Karen's own marriage in 1980 ended tragically only just several months after having reluctantly said " I do" . She found out that her fiance lied to her about wanting to have children which he knew was very important to her. He never told her about his vasectomy until just a few days before the wedding. Karen obviously felt betrayed and wanted to cancel the wedding. However, she still followed the advice of her mother and still married him. Once married, her spouse used Karen like his own personal bank account living way beyond his means asking her for carry around money, sometimes taking as much as $50,000 or more at a time from her. He was allegedly cruel to her and belittled her especially regarding her weight loss. In November 1981, she filed for divorce after 14 months. Karen fought valiantly to come back from this failed marriage and even her family hoped and prayed that her mental and physical health would continuously improve. Her last recorded major hit can be seen as a live rendition of "Touch Me When We're Dancing" in 1981 and surprisingly the B side of that single called "Because We Are in Love" was actually used by Karen as her own wedding song. How very tragic when you think about it.
