When you can't go onto system preferences cuz your keyboard isn't working so you can't type in your password and you can't click on system preferences cuz your mouse doesn't work 😅
holly disconnect anything thats connected disconnect disconnect the power and wait for a couple seconds plug it back in and turn it on then turn on the mouse and keyboard and it should connect again
I can't even explain how excited I am right now. My mouse stopped working this morning and I thought I'd tried everything until I saw this video. Literally was thinking to myself "if this doesn't work, I'm buying a new mouse." When my computer turned back on, my mouse was immediately working again! I've also been using a spare keyboard because my wireless keyboard stopped working about a year ago. Took a chance and started typing on the wireless one and it was working too!!! So glad I found this video! Honestly can't thank you enough!
Lol its a tad hard to use this strategy when your on your phone trying to get in to work, due to the fact that you simply dont have a backup mouse and they arent very cheap
I've spent 6 months using a cheap windows mouse... I was just looking to order a new mouse when I discovered this video. I am forever grateful. Thank you.
This worked for me. I turned off and unplugged the computer. Waited 15 seconds. Plugged it back in and restarted it. Also turned off my Magic Mouse 2 for 15 seconds and then turned it back on. It needed up reconnecting and I’m good to go. Thanks for the tip. It still worked almost 8 years later!!
I did exactly as you said, unplug all USB connections from my Mac Mini, pulled out the power cord and waited for a few minutes and it worked. My wireless mouse and keyboard reconnected again without going into preferences Awesome advice! I have a Mac Mini book for troubleshooting and no mention of what you advised to do. Thanks again :)
wow dude thank you so much I got so freaking frustrated when this happened to me. your instructions were clear and helpful you saved me the mistake of thinking I needed to buy a new mouse.
Holy Hell, you fixed it! Thanks so much for the tutorial that allowed me to sync them back again. Very direct and easy. I turned off computer and as it went off I pulled the temporary keyboard that I had to use, and then BINGO. After the start all was right with this late model iMac. I've had momentary keyboard communication problems before and didn't know where it was coming from and figured it was the batteries. I don't like having to use batteries either. It should have a charging dock!
Hey, thanks for the tutorial. I dropped my mouse this evening and the mouse would not re-connect. I looked at possibly buying a new one, then decided to do a search to see if there was a fix. Followed your instructions and mouse now works! Thanks brother, saved me $70! Cheers.
11 years after posting this video your solution still works! Seems so simple but very effective. It saved me from going into the Genius Bar appointment. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you that solved my problem. I also could not log on as no mouse or keyboard connected. However simply doing as you said switch everything off and unplug all the USB devices WORKED!!! When I switched it back on it came up first saying discovering bluetooth devices. You are the BEST!!
I was just about ready to go buy another keyboard until your video solved my problem! Thank you! I tried everything an nothing was working. This did it within less than a minute.
I tried a lot of options,... nothing worked. Didn't have much hope for this because its almost 10 years old this post but this actually worked still:) thanks!
Thanks for the vid! By simply unplugging the power cord from the back of my iMac, waiting a minute, then replugging and restarting the computer, both my mighty mouse and keyboard reconnected to my computer. Thanks!!
Thank you for making this video. You saved my weekend of legit gaming! Official forum pages for computers are never helpful. Also, the humor element was a lovely touch. A+ on your video ^,..,^
Thanks so much! I would have been among those getting a new keyboard, but your tutorial worked like a charm and saved me a lot of money and frustration!!
Weird... your video must have a good aura or something LOL. Because as I was watching this video, my mouse all of a sudden connected out of the blue. You're magic!
You saved my mouse! Thank you! I was worried I'd be stuck with my wired backup mouse that only scrolls up and down, and not left to right as well. I have a backup mouse and keyboard just in case something like this happens and I still need to truck through work, but I much prefer the apple mouse.
Thanks it worked this happened to me two times , the first time I didn't know and I had to buy a new one then the same thing happened but then I found this video and saved me money thank you 👍🏿
I’ve had this problem too with my keyboard and mouse. Mostly the keyboard not connecting. After non using it Much last year I noticed the two batteries inside the keyboard had started to corrode. I save my keyboard using a Chinese chopstick and sand paper wrapped around it to poke in there around the inner edges of the keyboard to remove corrosion. Thanks for your video. Sometimes my keyboard won’t connect which is scary cause then my dvd 📀 is stuck in my iMac 🖥 in that instance. Thankfully it finally worked to get my disc out. I can try what your video shows sometime. For now I removed the batteries and stopped using it for a long time now.
Thank you! Your tutorial saved the day. Have a huge project ahead of me - no keyboard connect. Chuckled because you said exactly what I was thinking: "Looks like I'll need to buy another keyboard." Also, ditto to your comment about buying regular keyboard and mouse - next time. :)
OMG! I just got both my Keyboard & Mouse and couldn't get my Keyboard to connect. Until I saw your Tutorial and did exactly what you said to do.. Awesome!! Im so happy I am able to use them now yay! Tfs Hugs Letty
OMG! I just got both my Mac Keyboard & Mouse and couldn't get my keyboard to connect. Until I saw your Tutorial and did what you said to do.. yay! Now I cam enjoy my keyboard & mouse. Tfs Hugs Letty
This really works, thanks! For those of you who only have this issue with the keyboard and have a spare wired mouse (like me), I recommend you go to system preferences > accounts and change your account to 'automatic login' before you do this. That way you won't need your keyboard to login. You'll need to type your password and for that you can bring up a screen keyboard ("show keyboard viewer") where you can click the letters. This can be done at the top right corner of the screen where it has your computer/keyboard language.
Dude. Totally worked. As below I couldnt get to my system because i couldnt use the keyboard to typle in password but took all mice and other things in USB drives out, unplugged, held keys down 10 seconds and when it reopened it worked. Jeez.. Thank you.
This worked for me. Once you turn the computer back on, if you've followed the steps then your keyboard will work at the login screen. I had a spare wired mouse so was able to save out my files. But guessing it might work by just manually shutting the computer off.
Okay so the people who don't have an extra mouse like me and searched this up with a different device, I recommend just letting the mouse charge for like 10 minutes and check back on it. It might've just been with my mouse but it worked!
THANK YOU! this totally worked and solved the issue. of course, apple wanted to charge me $ to help and the other sites i visited didn't solve the issue. you are great!
This just worked for me, I think the usbs connected to my computer was causing the issue, simply turned off my computer turned it back on turn my mouse and touch the power on my keyboard...it worked!
Help...I can't go to system pref because I can't do anything. My screen simply says Bluetooth Keyboard set up....No keyboard found. I can't get beyond that screen
had a problem where i couldnt scroll down with the mouse and it was moving to the left randomly. tried to fox it and it stopped connecting. easiest fix for me was this. log out of user. log into guest account. and then the mouse will connect to that bluetooth and continue to work when u log back into your old account.
We had lightening fry our wifi. The Mac (2011) all in one desk top has wireless keyboard and mouse, but the cursor wont move. I have new modem/router from provider and believe the keyboard and mouse won't work as the computer has not recognized new router. I need to log in to do anything. Any suggestions? I thought the printer fried, but that mysteriously woke up and allowed Bluetooth set up with new router. Yeah! All was on surge protector. Problem was phone line that blew router as lightening finds the grounds. Is there a surge protector to put on telephone lines to stop electricity from lightening entering the house?? This has happened twice in my life. Thank you for any help you can offer.

To fix a problem with your disconnected Bluetooth mouse, just move your mouse cursor over to preferences. Are you effing kidding me?

Thank you so much--was in a panic and got your video on my tablet. You saved the day--and such an easy fix.
How can I do it if the problem started when the mac is logged off
Holy Hell, you fixed it! Thanks so much for the tutorial that allowed me to sync them back again. Very direct and easy. I turned off computer and as it went off I pulled the temporary keyboard that I had to use, and then BINGO. After the start all was right with this late model iMac.
