- macmost.com/e-2385 If your keyboard isn't working when you are trying to log in, there are a few things you can do, but no perfect solution. You can use another USB keyboard, but in some cases your wireless keyboard will work as a wired keyboard too. You can also set up an Accessibility function in advance to avoid the problem.

How do you turn on accessibility keyboard without logging in? The video is about how to login in when the keyboard doesn't work. So the method shown here is totally useless. Is the Mac not able to show keyboard at the login screen?
Right, you have to set this up beforehand. If you are stuck in a situation where your keyboard isn't working unexpectedly, then what you do depends on the situation. Is it just that your wireless keyboard's battery is dead? Plug it into your Mac then and you can use it as a wired keyboard while it charges.
@@macmost Thank you for showing that Accessibility Keyboard, at sign-in screen. I have the M1 Mac Mini for 5 months and had monitor not waking up, everyday, until the last update Big Sur 11.3.1. When the monitor is out, then you cannot type anything, The real ugly thing, the monitor is up but the keyboard(s) is not working, 5 times in 5 months! Re-starting a dozen times, then, suddenly the $5 Inland mini keypad works! Van
@@TTVNHTD Have you talked to Apple about this? Take advantage of your AppleCare and get them to fix this issue.
Guest account I guess
Useless
So the solutions for how to login to you Mac if your keyboard is broken are
1) get another keyboard
2) go back on time.
So, no you can’t help. Thanks.
did you ever figure out what to do with yours cause im having this issue and nothing is working
I was locked out of my macbook some of my keys to enter my password were messed up (after having wiped the keyboard). I googled solutions on my iPhone but didn't find any until I stumbled on this video. I tried "option+command+5" and it worked. Thank you SO much.
You are awesome! Had to borrow a USB keyboard from a friend, but it was totally worth it to be able to log in and set up that accessibility option. It stinks that this is a common issue, but thank you for the solution!
I had this great problem with my iMac external keyboard. Thank to your video i was able to reconnect and login again. I used the power cable and made my wireless keyboard to a wire keyboard. Now it is working. Thank you.
Gary your video is excellent. You are great at tutorials. But agree.. why!!!!??? Doesn’t apple allow accessibility keyboard from login considering how many people spill drinks on keyboards rendering them useless.
Perfect timing. I needed this trick today to sign into my iMac. Thx!
Great tutorial! Thank you, Gary! 👍🏻
Dude, you just saved me a lot of hassle. Thank you so much. Something as simple as not knowing my Mac Bluetooth keyboard can be connected by the lightning cable.
Thank you thank you thank you! Took your advice and used my charging cord as a USB connector to the computer, problem solved! Saved me lots of time and money 😅 and met my work deadlines! Thank you !!!
Oh my god thank you so much for this in needed it more than you could ever imagine
you are the man Gary! I enjoy your videos thanks a lot! so many things I did not realize you can utilize with mac.
Omg bro thank you very much, I thought I was gonna get in trouble for not being able to log into my Mac
Wow This happened to me last week. Thanks this was a very helpful video.
Thank you soooo much! I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of that myself! Your a real life saver!
Mind blown. No idea you could use a Bluetooth keyboard through a USB cable. Thanks for the tip!
Detailed without the nonsense, thank you.
You just saved me!!! I had a usb keyboard laying around and all I had to do was plug it into the Mac (: 🎉
Go to your neighbor and ask any available keyboard for ten minutes then enable accessibility keyboard in groups settings for login and give back the keyboard. Done. You have it accessible untill you have another keyboard available. That's what I've done. Thank you for the video! It helped.
Bro I had never realized that trick with “converting a Mac keyboard into a wired one”. I deeply appreciate the help!
I struggled for a hr logging in, But now I’m in thanks to you. Blessings brother!!!
Thank you! Great video! in a matter of seconds i was up and running by using your suggestions!
I love you haha really I was about to buy a new one, this Happened to me before and had to buy another one. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 🙏🏻
I did what you said to put the usb cable on the keyboard and it worked… I was able to enter the password and gain access to my IMAC. Thanks for your help!!!!! 🙂😃🚀
Well I am grateful that I know how to turn that accessibility keyboard on. You would think it would be a default. I mean that's the reason we need it in the first place. By a small miracle the coffee dried up and I was able to use my keyboard to log in and the fist thing i did was follow your video to get that option enabled thank you. Now I head to Apple to see if anything else is wrong. Thank you
How long before coffee dry up?
Oh man you saved me lot of trouble today! Thanks a lot :)
Ahhhh wish I had known this before. Thanks for sharing. Will have to borrow my friend's wire keyboard to log in and set it up, but now I know to have that set up so I won't run into the same issue again. Thanks!
Thank you. Needed this.
Thanks for the info! I can help someone else if they accidentally turned off the Bluetooth like I did. Haha
This work! Thank you. I was trying for like an hour to login into my Mac. I found this video it was so helpful!! 😊👍🏼
So very helpful and informative. For sure it pulled me out of a tight spot. Thanks a ton !!
I didn’t know this! Thanks!
Thankyou, saved my sanity today! Now to figure out how to turn off the keyboard use as a mouse option, that got me into this predicament!
Thanks Gary :)
Didn't expected the keyboard to work by simply connecting it with a cable :D
1:45 man, thank you so much! It’s working for me! Problem solved👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank U!! U literally saved my life and made my day.BTW, today was my B-day. U just gave me the biggest gift I could think of to me!!
I was not able to crack the code cuz my magic keyboard was not recognized for whatever reason before I met U.. Thank God I found U!!
Exactly what i need ! Now i can work
Thank you so much! You we're answer to prayer! Plugging in the magic keyboard did it, as I didn't know there was a place to plug in. Thank you. God bless you!!
Good to know this. This was the most terrible part of buying a new Mac mini. I have Bluetooth keyboards so I was scrounging for usb keyboard.
super helpful and to the point
Thanks, I ran into that when I updated to OS 11.5.? and the USBs on the mother board quit working with the keyboard so I switched to PCIe USB and success. Anyway I now have the accessibility keyboard active. Good tip.
Wow thank you so much! The only video on UA-cam that actually helped me. Definitely subscribing
Genius! Thank you!
Sticky keys at login is/was a lifesaver!!!! The additional thing was that I setup a user account with no password on my older Mac! I logged into the guest account with just the mouse and screen shared with my new Mac using sticky keys to get in. The keyboard viewer.doesn't do caps, but sticky keys does. I was stressing out that I wouldn't be able to get into my newer Mac 2017. It's just one key on my bluetooth keyboard! I agree, this should be standard like on a pc. I wondered why not for many years!!! As per your instruction I set it up at login. No need to screen share to get in. Now off to troubleshooting that key that doesn't work. Thank so much!!!
This is a year later and you saved me again! Thanks!
Thanks a ton. Saved my day. Straight to the point. 👍
My MacBook Pro is getting on in years and just within the last week has begun having an issue where the keyboard and trackpad don't work at all and i'm unable to do anything except use the power button to turn it off and on (which doesn't always fix the issue). I'm going to buy a USB keyboard in the morning and hope that this tutorial works for me too. I know it's time to get a new laptop but i just can't afford to drop $2K right now on it. Thanks for this Gary!!!
Thank you so much for the sharing. My mac dose not allow me use external keyboard before login. But the keyboard is broken which prevent me from entering the password. You inspired me to use accessibility keyboard. For my m1, i get this option by quickly clicking the power button three times! Appreciate it!
100%. You got it. Helpful video! Also, I discovered while trying to set up an iMac for the first time that you can turn on that virtual keyboard on screen if the iMac won't yet acknowledge your wireless keyboard. With a USB mouse, you can click on each letter/number in the virtual keyboard and get through the setup and then update bluetooth settings to see your wireless keyboard and trackpad. So you don't have to run out and buy another keyboard! This feature is in the Accessibility settings very early in the setup menu. Click on "MOTOR" and a keyboard will open on screen, so if you at least have a USB mouse, you can get through setup.
Awesome tips...thank you
Big help! Thank you!!!
The option + comd + F5, omg I was helping a friend how to upset her wifi router and we forget to bring the actually mouse, and This literally help me how to use iMac without a mouse thank you so much
The accessibility keyboard option totally worked since only my q through p row wouldn't work. Thanks!
No amount of thanks will ever be enough.
You have no idea how much you helped me.
Like about accessing the virtual keyboard in login page, do we have a possible option in El-Capitan? Thanks a bunch.

You. Just. Saved. My. Life.
With the charging cable for bluetooth keyboard
Thank you infinitely. Problem solved through activating the visual keyboard. Only some letters where not working, so. I was able to avtivate it and type in my password. Thanks once again. God bless.
How you activate visual keyboard?
You saved my ass 😭😭😭 thank you from the deepest bottom of my heart 😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You saved mac bro !!
Crying happy tears. Thank you so much.
Great advice as usual. I'm on an older Mac (10.12.6), and I keep a USB keyboard in the closet just in case!
Thank you so so much. You are a life saver
Thanks man this helped alot.
I had this happen on my new M1 iMac - I had to hard reboot by pressing button on the back. I had tried plugging in my keyboard but that didn't do the trick either. The accessibility keyboard trick bis a good one.
Thank you so much. You can actually access the onscreen keyboard even if it wasn't set up ahead of time. I went in through my Guest user login and was able to activate the keyboard by following the steps you laid out. You just have to first activate the keyboard through Accessibility, then (user group) where you can click on your administration and enter your password to unlock all controls. Then proceed to follow the steps laid out in this video for the third option.
i cant get to accessibility from guest how do i?
@@user-gv7xs9qv3d It’s in System Preference

Great great tip. Thanks much
Thank you so much, my new IMac keyboard is not working and I didn’t even think about finding my adapter and plugging it into monitor. Then I have to figure why the blue tooth isn’t working.
Thanks. Finally found a simple solution that worked.
Thanks a lot, I just connected keyboard with iMac and it did work
Thank you so much.
Thank you ... most helpful DIY video I ever watched. 😍😍
Issue I have is a user spilt fluid. Keyboard and mouse don't work, so I used an external keyboard and mouse last week to retrieve data - worked fine. Today I wanted to grab another file from the Mac, but now it just sits at the log on screen with Unlock to Use Accessories, obviously I can't get into the Mac as I am using external mouse/keyboard. It worked last week! I can't unlock as now the Mac has decided I need to unlock the accessories - thanks Apple!
Thanks, it was helpful
That really works 👍👍👍 It helps me a lot.
Thanks, It helped
