I wish that I had seen this earlier before making a purchase on eBay. Following your video instructions, I was able to remove the corroded battery without any hassle. My wife always tells me to check UA-cam first, which I failed to do. Thanks for posting your video.
worked like a charm. had no idea that the little gray panel came off. LOL... If you're ever in Kensington, London, give me a shout, I owe you a pint for this fix.
These instructions were thorough and accurate. Thanks for helping me fix my keyboard!
This is perfect, I have the same issue with the same keyboard so going apply the same technique. Cheers
Thank you so much, so easy to follow and you are so precise. I do not have IPA, could I try WD40 or vinegar?
Great video and perfect explanation. Thanks!!!
Exactly what I needed to see. Thank you!!!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for the video, helped me to learn how to open it up and eventually fix it. Had to clean all the corroded parts including the power button actuator!
Great Video! Thank you 🔥👏💪🫶
Nice work on the video! It is to the point and very helpful. Thank you for making it!
I suggest using rechargeable batteries. I have never had one leak or get stuck in my electronics. Thanks for the video. I thought there was a battery stuck in a used keyboard I bought for a gift, but after watching your video I realized it only has 2 batteries. LOL!
There’s a rechargeable battery stuck in mine right now!
Rechargeable batteries are less prone to leaking (if you buy quality batteries) than normal. Getting lithium batteries costs a bit more, but are well worth it in the long run
Great video! Thanks! Helped a lot!
Just fixed my boys thanks to thi video, much appreciated!
I used a drill to make a hole in the battery and screw a wood screw to pull out with a gripper. It will be better with your method next time. Thanks.
Thank you so much!
You arelegend mate thank you so much this video helps me so much. Keep it up good works.
Thank you!
Thanks a lot. Very useful video.
Removing the logic board allowed me to take a different run at things, successfully. Along the way, I realised there are a number of very subtle gotchas still possible _beyond_ a stuck, corroded battery.
If your keyboard has ever been dropped, and has landed on either rear corner, you may find that the deformation of the thin wall of aluminum surrounding either the switch or the battery compartment screw cap has become distorted and (very subtly) is holding the otherwise removable item captive in the relevant location. Cutting away the last millimeter of either end of the cylindrical 'foot' of the keyboard won't prevent it from going back together and working correctly (ceteris paribus).
Anyway, the stuck battery in the much-abused keyboard I'm using at the moment to thank and praise Geir had, ultimately, to be removed using a length of stainless steel rod running through the entire length of the foot -- slide-hammer style, and with considerable force, and several strokes. And this was _after_ my having had to cut away a section of the 'foot' over the outer battery using a cut-off wheel on a Dremel tool. Someone had -- for reasons I can't imagine -- hammered the outside of the battery compartment at about the midpoint of the outer battery. This distortion of the compartment meant that it would have been impossible to remove the battery even if it hadn't been corroded in place...
Ty u help me😊
This didn’t work for me because I couldn’t get my end piece to turn, I bent a quarter trying to turn it, the rest of the steps worked like a charm but in the end it did me no good
That worked, was very crowded inside the chamber took extra baking soda and vinegar put a paper towel watted up in each end and just let it sit and then use the toothbrush and brush the hell out of it, it works fine
I tried this, but the 2 batteries are really corroded in. I tried to hammer them out with a screwdriver and a hammer, and the screwdriver went through the batteries! Still stuck
@donovannorth3857 Wow, I've never had one that was that stuck! Wonder if it would work to "soak" the area / compartment using >=35% vinegar, just to try and dissolve the leakage. Then drenching it in IPA again and also maybe try some lubricant like WD40 and / or electronics cleaner from CRC? About all I can think of at the moment :)
Hopefully this works for me
I was about to break my keyboard to get the stuck battery out, until I saw a comment saying keyboard has only 2 batteries, the 3rd is built in. You can make sure by flipping the keyboard and you will see the diagram😂
It seems the tiny Phillips screw holding the logic board is stripped. Any suggestions?
If the 'ol rubber band trick doesn't work, I suggest getting the iFixit precision screw extractor kit! Saved me a LOT of head ache over time 👍
@@GeirAndersenRepairs thanks for the suggestions and your swift reply.
What kind of isopropyl alcohol do you use? Can I use a 50% or 91%?
I use 99.9% and I wouldn't use anything under >99% personally. Just because there's the possibility of "pollution" from the additives
@@GeirAndersenRepairs Thank You!!!
What if the battery compartment cannot be opened?
What do you mean: Cannot be opened? The screw on the end, or the plastic piece in the middle?
@@GeirAndersenRepairs sometimes the battery acid spills all over the compartment and fuses the metal cap to the aluminum housing. This happened in my case. So far I have been trying soak it in various chemicals: vinegar, alcohol, lemon juice. Nothing worked so far. The worst case scenario is to drill the cap out.

@@Bizyukov
this how i got mine out,
how did you get yours out?

@@Bizyukov MAYBE WD40?
thx, but unfortunately i cant even unscrew the end. ive already bent out of shape 3 nickles (*・~・*)
Take it to a local watch repair shop, they will be able to do it. I did the same.
I'm in the same boat
@@365atr i got it out eventually. I had to put the keyboard in a vice and with a hammer and punch try to turn it. Once the grip of the acid is broken it comes out, but god damn is it a bitch to break.
Why did Apple have to make the battery cover a cap that you had to remove it with a coin it should’ve been a button
I know, right! I actually swapped out my AMK for one from JLAB that supports 3 devices; Supports Mac/iOS, Windows AND Android. I have it connected to my MacBook Pro, Google Pixel 8 Pro and Lenovo Tab P12. Switching is as simple as pressing a button!
Don't buy apple Magic Keyboard, it will just be broken, buy cheap keyboard it's the same efficiency
