Couldn't figure out how to connect the older model with the button. I tried holding the button on the side but I wasn't continuing to hold when clicking the pair button. Tried your method and worked first time! Thanks for your help!

OMG, this actually fixed why my keyboard numbers 1-5 weren't working! I did all of the reset + pairing things which didn't work but when I held the off button and disconnected/reconnected it problem was solved!! Thank you!
Brilliant. Was skeptical until I tried the +3 sec button hold - off then on, holding until the device connects. Worked like a charm for me. Previously, my magic trackpad would not connect to my Mini. Message was "passkey mismatch" . Nothing worked until THIS. YAY

When I do that, the keyboard just turns off....anyway, it does pair (with some difficulty) to my newer iMac (late 2014 with High Sierra), but not to my older one (early 2008 iMac with El Capitan)...I'm wondering if the keyboard's not compatible with El Capitan, do you have any idea?
Helpful video! Also, I discovered while trying to set up an iMac for the first time that you can turn on a virtual keyboard on screen if the iMac won't yet acknowledge your wireless keyboard. With a USB mouse, you can click on each letter/number in the virtual keyboard and get through the setup and then update bluetooth settings to see your wireless keyboard and trackpad. So you don't have to run out and buy another keyboard! This feature is in the Accessibility settings very early in the setup menu. Click on "MOTOR" and a keyboard will open on screen, so if you at least have a USB mouse, you can get through setup. I knew the Mac was going to have such a feature -- it's brilliant!

i had keys 7ujm not working on lowercase and only with caps. I followed all other suggestions and none worked and all said to replace keyboard. removed and re-paired with imac and now working!!! thank you
After I recharge the battery in my keyboard, as soon as I unplug the cable the iMac no longer recognizes the keyboard via Bluetooth. The keyboard is charged, Bluetooth is on, the computer recognizes that the keyboard is there, repeatedly attempts to connect to it, but can never connect. The only thing that works is rebooting the computer. But since the keyboard is not connected you cannot type in the password! I have to reconnect the cable to the keyboard to type in the password. When the computer boots up, it then recognizes the keyboard via Bluetooth. This is a frustrating problem that I've had on two iMac's, an older one and now a fairly new one. It is an Apple design problem. They need to fix the problem so that keyboard and mouse connect NO MATTER WHAT.

I too am struggling with the same issue.I have an I Mac desktop and it says keyboard not discoverable. I cannot punch in my password , hence the computer cannot start. Very exasperating- considering I am not tech savvy at all! Apple must factor in the challenges of customers of my ilk who need hand holding to run such devices. 😢
I have one of the older magic keyboards that takes 2 x AA batteries. The problem I have found both with this keyboard and with my bluetooth mouse is that makes of batteries (even expensive makes) can vary in length by a fraction of a millimetre. That's bad enough in a mouse where the batteries are single-mounted, but doubly bad in a keyboard where two batteries are end to end. When my keyboard failed there was no way I could find of reconnecting it after following all on-line advice, until I thought of putting a thin pad of folded Alfoil between the batteries and the screw cap. Worked a treat! Problem fixed. I've had to do the same with my mouse.

It worked thanks for the video ! After connecting my keyboard to another Mac my keyboard wasn't working anymore. Go on bluetooth setting and click forget this device, then reconnect

Literally not even joking, I got to a minute in to this video and my keyboard fixed itself and reconnected.
Pulled my old keyboard out of storage to use with MacBook Pro setup and couldn't remember how to connect, bluetooth preferences showed keyboard but I wasn't HOLDING down on power button during/after clicking connect. Back to editing thanks to you!
Thank you soooo much. its weird I've had my Mac mini for 3 years with no issue and the power went out at my house my older keyboard quit working. could not figure it out. tried everything. come to find out I needed to keep holding the button on the side. thank you for this video.. My wireless Magic keyboard stopped working. I tried everything that was suggested on this video. None of of it worked. Bluetooth indicated my keyboard was connected but it was not working. I tried another keyboard and it would connect and work. The problem must be with the keyboards transmitter. I took the cable that was included to charge the keyboard and mouse and connected it between the keyboard and a USB port on my computer. The keyboard started working better than it ever has. I no longer have to wait for the computer to connect to the keyboard. As soon as I turn the keyboard on, it works. I suspect the wireless transmitter on the keyboard is not as reliable, or performs as well as a wired connection. You should consider connecting your keyboard by wire if the suggested resets do not work. I prefer the performance of the keyboard with the wire connection. Apple needs to work on the performance and reliability of the Bluetooth connection on the keyboard.

For pairing issues, mine was this: the magic keyboard (version 1) was connected to the iPhone. Disconnect and it will be shown on BT settings.

Does this work with the 2021 iPad Pro? the website said it said only supports up to iPad Pro 5th Gen but that doesn’t make sense /:
my top row from f1 to f9 stopped working. I connected it to another mac computer and the problem persists. Is it over? it's definitely not a clean up key thing. they keys press alright but are not recognized in the keyboard viewer on the screen.
how do you press the power button on the keyboard that your using to demonstrate how to reset settings? coz apparently my keyboard has only slide option . it wont press like a button

Another option that works for me is to plug in my keyboard for a moment. It works like a USB keyboard when plugged in. If I'm fully charged, I can unplug it right after connecting.

Another method is to connect a lightning cable to the Mac and plug it into the keyboard and then the mouse and they will connect and work. Have this issue every time I link the keyboard and mouse to another computer. Would think Apple could have figured this out by now

I have the newer magic keyboard, but symbols that would work when pressing shft key on left hand side of board do not work, i have to use the right hand shift key...its so frustating considering it worked for about a year and now wont work! Anyhow have any ideas?

mine has a connect button and does not have the delete button in bluetooth preferences. the connect button does not connect it and restart of the computer didn't work either. The keyboard is charged. I have a new apple magic keyboard model and a Mac mini. I was using the keyboard with my iPad last and I removed it from bluetooth on the iPad before trying it back on the Mac mini. It usually is used with the Mac mini all of the time. Just had this problem after using the keyboard on the iPad and going back to Mac mini.
Fixed: On the iPad, I hit disconnect, then forget. Then, this is key, turn the iPad off. When I left the iPad on, I could not get the keyboard to connect to the Mac mini. So then keyboard off, keyboard on, Mac mini restart, then it connected to the Mac mini and I'm typing on it now!
I am on new imac - and removing keyboard and it being recognized again - still won't connect/pair. any more ideas?

Hello bro, I was installing windows 8 in macOS high sierra through bootcamp assistant, after installation the system was asking for a code number written on the back of the bootable device, when I went to check, by mistake the PC wire is disconnected from mac mini. After restarting the computer, the display is showing that "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key", now the keyboard is disconnected from computer and I have tried many attempts to connect with computer but still it is not connected, now I am stuck in this situation. Please help me 🙏🙏🙏🙏
